If you have a spare moment, do tell us your fragrance of the day!
Everyone in my house is sick, including me. It seems awfully early for the flu, but that is what it feels like. I am fragrance-free, and planning a long day on the couch reading and watching television.
Reminder: this Friday, 9/11, will be Freedom Friday: wear a scent that says "I’m Free!" to you, in whatever context you choose to define it. (Suggested by Laila)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I was thinking about wearing some vintage Caleche today. I have no idea what the current formulation smells like but this stuff is so effortlessly elegant.
I hope you start feeling better soon!
I’m wearing Musc Monoï which I’m enjoying a lot.
Thank you!
Oh, I feel your pain and hope you are back to being all bright eyed and bushy tailed soon!
I needed a nice soothing scent today and went with PdE Equistrius. Beautiful stuff which is just what the doctor ordered after a less than stellar weekend dealing with a sick dog and a shower drain that I had to get down and dirty with.
I feel a bit traumatized (by the drain debacle) but quite sure I will bounce back just like the dog, who is now feeling better and has even graced me with some tail wags this morning. Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!
I could definitely see Equistrius as a soothing scent
Yes, I find it to be like the eye in a big whopper of a storm- quiet and still, while all around the periphery is chaos and confusion. 🙂
Knowing my love for most of the other PdE scents it’s weird that I’ve never tried Equistris. I always forget until someone mentions it. I really need to order a sample, it sounds very much like something I would enjoy.
Order a sample! I did, fell in love, hemmed and hawed about a getting a 50ml bottle, and now regret that I never did since PdE is only in 100ml bottles currently.
Sounds like a candidate for splitting, just sayin’
I’m glad your pup’s feeling better!
She thanks you for your well wishes and so do I! 🙂
Yuck, get well soon!
I just put on some Vetiver Dance but it smells muggy and unappealing this morning….wish it was Vetiver Oriental instead.
You could probably crush out Vetiver Dance with a nice strong application of any kind of orange blossom/neroli or citrus fragrance. I like Vetiver Dance, but I find the middle notes to be very orange blossom.
Oh, interesting suggestion! I ended up drowning it with LADDM 🙂
That will work too, lol!
SOTD is Slumberhouse Sana. This is a difficult scent for me– I have to be very specifically in the mood for it or it feels very off. Most of my other scents have a wider spectrum of appeal. Still, when it works, like today, it’s fabulous
So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well, Robin. Get better soon!
I’m wearing my sample of Arquiste Nanban and I like it a lot – leather, spices, woods, smoke, everything. It’s sweeter than most of my leathers, but not too sweet. I think it’s going to be a week of leather (I wore Cuir de Russie yesterday), it’s autumn here and it feels right.
Wow, Nanban sounds fabulous.
Yes, at least I think it’s pretty great.
Not sure If you are interested but Brooklyn Fragrance lover reviewed Nanban on You Tube.
That sounds right up my alley! I will have to research that one.
Yes, if you like that type of scents, I highly recommend it.
I havent heard of Nanban- sounds delicious 🙂
Angela did a small review of it in August, together with two other fragrances. To me, it feels a bit more assertive than she says, but otherwise the same.
Ooh, Nanban sounds amazing!
Possibly too early to make any definitive statements, but I see a FB in my future.
I want to try this one. Annikky, let us know if you are still thinking FB by the end of the day or if something unexpected? unwanted? happens.
SOTD – Yosh- Sombre Negra
I liked it all the way to the very end: there was a lovely hint of all the nice things still lingering when I got home after a 12+ hours work day. And then I reapplied 🙂 It seems less assertive now than on the first wearing (probably because I’m used to the smell buy now), but still gorgeous, I think.
Oh it sound quite wonderful! I had hesitated because the review said a wisp of cumin which turns me off immediately.
Sounds like you have given us a delightful vicarious day????
I’m have no issues with cumin (in fact there are almost no deal-breakers for me, which possibly makes me less than ideal for recommending things) and I didn’t pick it out when smelling, but it’s possible it’s there. I’ll see if I can double check, but my 7 year old daughter has used up most of my sample 🙂
How’s the coffee note in this one? Love me a coffee note!
I could definitely smell it in the dry down, when I paid attention. But my nose isn’t very sensitive, so if I could smell it, others might pick up much more.
Naban sounds like it would be up my alley. Lovely!
Do give it a try!
You’ve birthed a lot of lemmings today 🙂
I feel horribly responsible now… I’m sure it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but I maintain it’s worth a try for those who are into warm spicy-woody-leathery things.
Hope you feel better soon, Robin,
Wearing Bois 1920 Kimono Rose. It’s a gorgeous scent, and I drained my sample. This one could be worth acquiring a full bottle, or maybe a split…I may have slightly overdone it in finishing the sample. Hope my coworkers aren’t too annoyed.
Thank you!
Greetings from Boston, hopefully you will feel better soon. Today, I am wearing Carven The Parfum. Great for a summer day.
Oh, you smell great 🙂
I hope the whole bunch gets well soon! 😀
I am not wearing fragrance now except for some regular Gillette deodorant. I might go out for dinner tonight and if that happens, I see a lot of Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilisc going on 😀
🙂
Thanks P!
Hope you are feeling better. The baby and my husband both are feeling under the weather.
I am in Shalimar Initial today- savoring every drop since its discontinued
re Shalimar Initial: I’m happy somebody here convinced me to buy a bottle before it was discontinued!
Oh no, hope you guys don’t have what we had.
I hope not either. I am feeling ok! Which is good since I am preggers
I hope that you guys feel better soon.
It’s supposed to be over 100 degrees all this week. My husband is NOT happy because he is teaching a birding class and he is leading a field trip for it on Saturday. The birds will not be as active and his students will be miserable.
My SOTD is Geranium Odorata by Diptyque, which is about as heavy (not at all) as I want to go in this heat.
Stinking hot here too 🙁
Chanel 19 EDT. ‘Nuff said.
Yep.
😉
Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche. Love the creaminess, but hoping the anise fades a bit.
Question for my fellow sample fiends: How long does it take you to go through a sample vial? I swear these things last forever and I can’t understand it, since they’re so tiny!
I get 4 or 5 proper wears (wearings?) out of 1 ml usually, but a lot more if I only dab a tiny amount.
Lord, I’ve had some of those Hermessence samples for 4 years!
It depends on spray vs. dab. I was getting about 6 wears from the dab vials (1mL), but then started using a bunch more juice at a time in order to get better longevity and a better feel for the scent. So now I’m getting about 3 wears out of 1mL.
The 2-3 mL sprays last about 4 wears, I think.
Wow, 3 wears?! It sounds like I really need to step up the amount I use in a single wearing!
I shifted this way too, and I recommend it. First, you don’t have so many vials in your life. Second, you make up your mind faster if you want to get to know it better, based on fuller information. I don’t like finishing a sampling day realizing that I can’t form an opinion of the scent because I just didn’t wear enough of it. Sometimes I use the whole thing at one time.
I’ll be curious to hear how the Lumière Blanche develops for you–I just tried it for the first time this weekend and I was impressed by the staying power, but then, I didn’t particularly notice the anise (could fully be a failure of my not-particularly-attuned nose!) I couldn’t decide whether it was smthg I needed to wear again…
Same tho, abt samples lasting so long, especially dabbers, as Ajda mentioned. Plus even when I really like something, it’s rare that I would wear it, I don’t know, 10 days in a row! More like 10 days over months or more. So then a ml or two feels like it’s lasted an impossibly long time!
I’m sure I only noticed the anise because I REALLY dislike licorice/anise notes. 🙂 Now that the spices have faded away, it’s mostly powdery and creamy with a bit of almond. I honestly think I’d love the scent if I could swap out the anise for an amplification of the other spices (which I couldn’t smell at all today).
I can’t really speak to the longevity because almost all scents last all day on me (even with the three little dauber smears I put on each arm). The good news, at least, is that I like its later stages a lot…. though, like you, I’m not sure how many more times I’ll wear it, given my issues with the opening.
Sorry to hear you’re sick! Hope you feel better soon.
I’m wearing Lys Soleia, a (rare) blind buy. I found it on Amazon for $35 and couldn’t resist. I do like it and will probably wear it a lot next summer. And the bottle is adorable!
Sorry to hear you’re (all) feeling poorly. Hope it’s something that passes quickly.
Not wearing any fragrance yet, having a tough time getting rolling.
It’s still hotter than the face of the sun here (kindcrow, I feel your pain!) so I’m wearing that old summer reliable, Un Jardin Sur le Nil. So refreshing.
Hope you and the whole family will be feeling much better soon, Robin.
Sur le Nil is a lifesaver on disgustingly hot days!
Hope you’re all better soon Robin, and that if you’re sick now you’ll be free of lurgy for the rest of the flu season!
Another fabulous spring day here, and my box of goodies arrived in the mail 🙂
So, De Bachmakov today- such a fabulous zesty /floral/ herbal/ figgy delight, and Natori tonight (a blind buy inspired by Ihadanidea’s and others love for it). It’s actually much nicer than I expected- and so worth the little money it cost!
I have been on a bit of a perfume bender of late, and am figuratively rolling around in new, delightful fragrances. I have much to confess to Donatella at the end of the month 😉
I keep hearing great things about Natori! Now I am tempted to blind buy as well… 🙂
I’ve found the 2ml samples on ebay for small bucks, if you don’t want to jump in with both feet. I love the top/heart of Natori but it gets a bit Youth Dew (i.e., Kiss of Death for me) in the base.
It took me quite a few years to come around to Natori – I had a small decant from when it came out. As time went on, it really grew on me as a very well done, elegant fragrance. I decided to buy a bottle last year b/c its not longer in production, but still easy to find. You’d have to like aldehydes, plummy notes and patchouli. If you like those, the odds are you will like Natori. If you don’t end up liking it, it would be very easy to swap off at one of the swapmeets. IMHO, Natori fragrance is what the Coco Noir edp should have smelled like.
Great descriptions! For me Getting Youth Dew sounds very animalic. Does Natori run that way too?
I can’t stand Youth Dew b/c of that unpleasant “Pepsi” accord that is in some orientals. I don’t get any of that from of Natori, but there is a bit of patch down there.
Ah yes, I recently read that cola is vanilla, cinnamon, orange and lime. I’m sure that combo can be found within many an oriental. Thanks for the info!
Sorry you and yours are poorly, Robin. Manuka honey and lemon have astounding restorative powers, if you happen to have any to hand.
My SOTD was Rahat Loukhoum again, but if the temperature reaches 16 today, I shall break out my L’Ombre dans L’Eau. Don’t think it’s likely, but I shall wake in hope.
Come to Perth, it’ll be 31°c tomorrow! Yay! 🙂
I’m in Port Pirie, Perthgirl, and it didn’t get to 15 yesterday. I came to help my sister plant trees, but we’re both wimping out and keeping ourselves nice inside…
Get well soon!
I tested Ombre Mercure earlier today (like but not love) and I am wearing Drole de Rose now. It’s fun and pretty.
I love Drôle de Rose, great fun indeed!
So sorry you aren’t feeling well… I got curious – Olive Leaf sounds like something I might need to acquire and start taking…
Hot, humid and just plain icky here. I’m so looking forward to fall! Starbucks outside my office bldg. has a big sign that the Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back… That just sounds horrible in this weather – oh how I wish the weather made that sound appealing.
As a result, I’m in OJ Frangipani. I’ve been a broken record this summer on that fragrance when it’s hot, hot, hot out. There’s a sharpness I wouldn’t normally like, but in the heat comes off as crisp.
Yeah, it’s always a little crazy to me that they bust out the hot-syrupy-pumpkin drinks wayyyy before there’s enough chill in the air to even want one!
THe first time I ever had a Pumpkin Spice Latte, it was the week after Thanksgiving and it was PERfect. In this weather, I cringe at the thought.
I just came from Starbucks and saw that you can actually do the PSL as a Frappuccino.. ??? Anyone ever try this? Sounds pretty bizarre to me.
I’m sorry to hear you and your family are not feeling well, Robin! I wish you a relaxing day on the couch.
My birthday is this Sunday and I’m trying to pick a FB from my buy list, but narrowing it down this year is difficult. It’s too early to get my hands on the new Carven, so I’m left contemplating between Byredo Seven Veils, which I’ve sampled, or a blind buy of JM Mimosa and Cardamom. Is anyone able to tell me if the JM is anything like Mimosa Pour Moi?
Hope you are all having a great week!
So hard to pick that one bottle for a b-day gift for oneself! Good luck.
I have never smelled Mimosa Pour Moi, but the folks at Fragrantica describe it as “green.” The JM Mimosa and Cardamom is not green, IMO.
The most excellent mimosa Essences Insensees Diptyque is delicately green.
The mimosa EI is just totally puffy, swoon-y gorgeous! I want to smell the new jasmine one….
As regards all these mimosa frags – I think that Mimosa Pour Moi (which I also like very much) has a noticeable dry powdery almond accord in the middle. It’s more noticeable to me if I do a side by side with the Diptyque which is more dewy and green, but still powdery.
The Mimosa EI is gorgeous, but pricey! Plus, it doesn’t last on me more than 2 hrs.
The 2 to 3 hours of bliss are worth it for me. I don’t like most perfumes that I try, which is disappointing, but good for my wallet. I can splurge on the few things I really like.
Thanks for the Mimosa Pour Moi description, AnnS. I need to order a mimosa sampler from STC. Hope I don’t fall in love with any discontinued beauties!
And Happy Birthday in advance!
Happy Birthday, just a bit early.
SOTD is Patou Pour Homme Prive. Hope you and your family get to feeling better soon!
The CEO had strep throat all last week, and he was a positive pill to take care of – he felt awful. I’m just glad none of the rest of us got it. Here’s hoping that the bug leaves your house soon, Robin.
I’m going through one of my periodic addicted-to-one-perfume stages again: nothin’ but Safari. You know, I reapply the same scent so rarely, I forget how wonderful it is to smell the same fragrance in several stages all at once. I’ll be ready to move on in a few days, I’m sure, but for now I’m enjoying the palimpsest.
Well, if you are going to smell like only one fragrance, Safari is a very good choice. One of the things I like most about Safari is that it’s a totally year round fragrance. It has awesome lovely sillage too!
I love those fragrance-crush stages- it’s the best when you know exactly what you want to put on and to have it be so satisfying when you do!
I’m wearing Marni Rose today. Picked it up at TJ Maxx a few days ago and have been wearing it a lot this weekend. I probably didn’t *need* it, but I like it. It is different from my other roses, so that’s justification I guess.
I’m always so jealous of the goodies at other people’s TJ Maxxes. I haven’t tried Marni Rose, but I like Marni and I bet you smell great!
Thanks! I had only tried the original before I bought this one, so it was sort of a blind buy.
What’s “need” got to do with it? 😉 Imagine that’s being sung in your ear by Tina Turner and that’s all the justification you’ll ever need!
Ha! I like it.
Marni Rose! I’ve never been able to find it. How would you describe it, esp. in comparison to Marni?
For my 2¢, Marni Rose has a brightness (I’d say ‘freshness’ if it weren’t such an abused descriptor!) that is the main way it differs from Marni. They’re def related (and wear nicely together!), in terms of a light, veil-of-scent-style rose, but if Marni has a little bit of warmth, even a slightly nutty quality, Marni Rose switches that out for a bit of mint. It’s very good, I think–there are a ton of summerweight rose scents out there at this point, and I think Marni Rose is really one of the more interesting takes on this theme!
I’d say C.H.’s assessment is pretty accurate. There is a bit of grapefruit in the top, and the mint really isn’t distinct. I pick it up a bit every once in a while, but it’s not like a toothpaste-y mint, it’s greener, like a fresh mint leaf.
Totally–it’s not like spearmint (at all) but just adds a bright green quality.
I’ve been putting fresh mint leaf on raspberries this summer and it doesn’t taste minty per se but just gives the berries a bit more brightness. The effect in Marni Rose is similar!
Ok just added TJMaxx to my list of errands today!! 🙂
I’ve heard about sightings at Marshall’s as well (didn’t see it at mine, but YMMV, of course), so if you don’t see it at your TJ Maxx and you have a Marshall’s close by, check there too.
Ooh noted, thank you!!
Hope you feel better soon, Robin!
I started out the day sampling Hermes Iris Ukiyoe, and I very much liked the light cool florals, and by the time I got to work, it was gone baby gone, so then I replenished from the little stock of samples I keep at work for just such emergencies. 🙂
I dabbed on Dame’s Desert Rose and it is also light and floral and sort of cool to begin with, and now at lunch time, the backs of my hands are all gentle powdery sweetness, and I like this very much! I will be interested to see how much longer it lasts.
If it disappears soon, I am going to refresh with Rose Infernall! Enough of these delicate disappearing fragrances! LOL!
First back at work after a long summer vacation at the cottage and traveling to Colombia.
Wearing Eau d’Ikar. (that I picked up in Colombia)
Perfect in this hot&sticky heatwave.
Question for this great group:
I will be in New York City in November. Of course I will stop by Aedes and all the other great stores (Saks, Neiman, Bregdorf, etc.) but is there some hidden gem place that is a must for parfume shopping in Manhattan?
Maybe a place that carries vintage? A discount place?
Thanks.
Want to do a meetup? There are smaller stores like Osswald and Twisted Lily.
I’d also love to hear about places that carry vintage!
There are tons of discount places. With a big caveat emptor, I’d recommend the strip on and near Broadway, south of 34th Street. I’ve never bought anything there, but I’ve shopped it a few times. It’s a good alternative to online discounters (similar stock and comparable prices) for when you want to be able to briefly sniff the juice. If you ask, often the staff will open a box or two for you and spritz into the cap or onto the cardboard. Some places let you haggle. Beware the usual gray (I don’t know, is it merely gray?) market problems, and the fact that these stores are unlikely to accept returns.
I’m also up for a visiting platinum meet-up. 🙂
There’s also MinNY. Me three for a meet up!
Went to bed last night in Shalimar, planning to shower it off this morning because today is another 90 degree spectacular, but of course, today, the first day after a holiday weekend, is the morning my building turns the hot water off with no advance warning! Awesome. So, for the moment, my SOTD is last night’s Shalimar, and my emotional state is annoyance bordering on rage.
Not being able to shower is the worst. Especially since you did not get any notice.
It always seems to happen at almost hilariously bad times too, like right after I get home from the gym or a camping trip or something.
I’m back to the scent world after a long and hot summer (mainly wearing vetivers) and for starters I’m positively impressed with Ormonde Jayne. Only last week they started promoting the Vanille d’iris samples and I had one yesterday in my mailbox! And I like (love?) it, a warm iris (rather leathery) with just a touch of non-too-sweet vanilla -a serious contender for my ultimate iris scent.
Oh I am green with envy!
Tell us everything 🙂 How heavy is it–is it mainly a cold-weather scent or more all-seasons? Does it have much in common with any other OJs?
Preamble: I am not a specialist but I am picky, so I don’t like carroty or over-the top pure iris scents… this is not a floral iris, I would say it’s not a summer sent, but otherwise yes! I wann to compare it to iris de nuit (heeley) before buying anything
Still hot here in Cleveland and can’t wait until Thursday for a cold, rainy day. A day that I don’t have to be anywhere and can sit and read or watch movies. Oh, the SOTD is vintage Jicky in vintage EDP. Need something a little skanky today before I go to work.
Get well soon, Robin. I think something is going around. Last week, one of the 1st grade teachers in my building had 5 kids leave in one day. All were complaining of nausea and diarrhea. Needless to say, the custodian had to disinfect it from top to bottom.
My SOTD is my favorite – Nectarine Blossom and Honey. I truly haven’t worn it in a while, so I figured today was the day.
I hope you feel better soon! Nothing worse than a cold when it’s hot outside.
SOTD is Hermes Kelly Caleche edp. I used to not like this scent, but now I’m really coming around.
But my nose is ready for cool weather fall scents, even though it is nice a hot outside. I smelled a lady wearing Coco at a fancy barbecue lake beach party the other night and it set me to yearning! I applaud anyone who wears Coco when it’s 80 degrees outside!!!
AnnS, I was wondering how you would compare Coco today to the Coco you first wore in college? I wore Coco in the early nineties. I recently started wearing it again, but I am really not sure what is different.
I was pretty aggressive a few years ago getting older back up bottles of Coco – edp, edt, extrait – so I’ve not really smelled the current. I should see what’s what though next time I’m in Macys. I’ve read elsewhere that the base notes are just not as complex. Sorry I can’t help!!!
Thank you. If in the future you do smell the current formulation, I would be interested in your opinion.
I really only like the edp of Kelly Caleche – the edt is too celeryish and dry, and I think I need the extra dollop of rose in the edp. But I do really like the edp, so great for summer.
I never cared for the edt either – too vegetal – it just never worked for my nose. Like it couldn’t make up it’s mind what it wanted to be and all those herbs just fought with the light leather… so I’m glad I like the edp b/c I don’t have any JCE frags!!! It actually makes me think of it as a dress down Cuir de Lancome!
How did Calèche grow on you? It doesn’t work for me, but it’s in categories that do, so I’m perplexed.
I think it grew on me for a few reasons. First I just like it much more than the edt version which I’ve tested quite a few times over the years and never really enjoyed. The edp smells more “whole” to my nose. And also b/c I’ve grown to like leathers over the years by gradually working my way into them with some frags that have very light leather accords (like Vol de Nuit), and then gradually moving up, and also with learning to really like vetiver which in some frags has a bit of a sharp leathery smell. I give Bottega Veneta a lot of credit here, and then I also give the original Donna Karan aka “Signature” some nods b/c I’ve always liked that fragrance, which has a fairly big leather/suede accord, but it is so juicy and oriental that it kind of bridges a few genres….Then, I really was surprised this past spring how much I love Cuir de Lancome which is such a complex, elegant leather fragrance, IMHO it has some similar, but lighter accords, as Kelly Caleche edp. So, I guess I kind of fell into KC edp backwards. I still can’t do big leather, but a little leather is good enough!
Interesting! I’m thinking this could have to do with vetiver, and I will revisit my Bottega Veneta with that in mind. Thank you!
Sorry that you are not feeling well, Robin. Reading and TV watching are good things to do, though when not feeling 100%. I would probably be watching some things on Turner Classic Movies.
I am wearing Laura Tonatto Fior d’Arancio. We had storms last night, but it should warm up quite a bit here today and I like this one when it feels like summer outside (still does where I live).
It’s odd, but it seems that many people became ill or encountered other difficulties over the long weekend. After I’d been in the office for an hour, I started to feel as if I were getting a cold. I can’t! My daughter is coming from across the country on Thursday, and IO want to be fun, not snuffly.
I’m sorry, Robin, you must be feeling extra poorly, but I hope it passes extra quickly.
As for SOTD, I quickly sprayed on some Pacifica San Francisco Jasmine, because for a second it does remind me of my past in that wonderful place.
I’m wearing Diptyque Olene after reading that announcement of the new/reissued Diptyques. It is wonderful, as always.
I noticed yesterday that Luckyscent has Diptyque Essences Insensees Jasmine. I suppose I’ll try it if I remember the next time I’m ordering samples, but I’m rather well set for jasmine between SL A la Nuit, Olene, and that LE harvest Organza.
Yes, I’m interested in trying that new Diptyque!
SOTD = FM Iris Poudre
Once again, I was trying to figure out who was wearing a nice perfume and belatedly realized it was me all along. Yes, it is THAT GOOD!
That one just makes me happy. Especially the drydown.
Yes, it is – I keep trying other irises, and always come back to IP!
Ha! The best.
Commando today… Forgot to put fragrance on this morning before leaving for work! I should think of putting a few samples in my bag for such occurrences. However, with the muggy weather we are having, I don’t think a lot of choices would have been appropriate…
Kids are back to school today. I took the day off and am sitting at home not getting done all the things I was going to get done. wearing NR for her L’absolu.
I was so excited to finally find NR for Her L’Absolu at my local Sephora over the weekend and get a sample. What do you think of it?
I really like it. I get mostly jasmine and maybe amber from it. I don’t wear NR for her in the edp or edt. the L’absolu is more me. It just feels more creamy. I don’t think it lasts as long as the other ones. Great bottle though.
Le Labo Iris. It feels refreshing, we are in the high 90’s today – and it is going to be a scorcher the whole week. Can’t wait for a cooler weather to break out my ambers and boozy frags
I’m getting antsy for fall weather too.
I’m sampling Chaparral solid perfume from Roxana Illuminated. I think I read that Impromptu (the camphor into labdanum slide I slid the other day) arose from the development of Chaparral, and I see the connection. There is a lot less camphor in this one! But there’s some, and it plays an interesting role, somehow raising and pointing out some other notes, more woodsy and dry and dusty. It’s a neat trick! I think the toned-down labdanum in this is doing something similar from below. Chaparral is also much quieter than Impromptu, but I was wearing both the liquid and solid versions of Impromptu. This is really very lovely. Roxana is two for two in my book so far.
I don’t know the real chaparral personally, but this is a convincing rendition of my ideal notion of chaparral. Does anyone happen to know this perfume and its namesake, and care to compare?
Everyone is sick? Ugh. It’s the back-to-school virus 😉
Feel better soon!!
I’m smelling oh so nice in Sous le toit de Paris. Simple fragrance, but lovely all the same.
L’air de rien. Had a thought that this one would dissipate cloudy weather/mood. I really dig this one, but don’t know if it comes off super-dirty to others so I used restraint.
While digging for the sample I found that my sample of Cuir Ottoman had turned to a sludgy mess so I added 99% alcohol to it to make some homebrew lampe berger fuel. I’ll let it steep and see how it turns out.
Robin, so sorry to hear that you and the family are all sick. I hope you feel better soon. Staying on the couch and ordering in for dinner is what I do when I’m sick.
I picked up yesterday’s shirt to throw it in the hamper and it smelled soooo good. I had to think for a moment to remember that I wore VC&A Lys Carmin. Today I’m wearing Seville a L’Aube; from the notes I should love it, but I’ve tried it four or five times and it just doesn’t grab me. It must be the Duchaufour curse–I don’t seem to like any of his fragrances, no matter what style. Today’s wearing used up the last of it.
I have trouble with Duchaufours too, in general, but Seville is one of the few of his I like.
I am sorry you are feeling poorly–I hope you feel better soon.
I am wearing Institut Tres Bien Cologne a la Francaise from an old bottle that has aged pretty well. the citrus has that pre-IFRA restrictions zest that is missing from so many new citrus based scents.
Ugh. I hope there will be scents of tea and gentle soup in your home!
Am wearing a Smell Good Daily cologne today in Vanilla Santos. Warm, rich but very light- good for this transitional season!
No SOTD here either. Scent twins?
I am enjoying a great Double Bergamot Earl Grey tea though. It’s that kind of day.
Sorry y’all are under the weather!
I just finished edging the lawn (mowing is NOT my job and I’m sticking to it but I couldn’t stand the shagginess) and showering. Today is supposed to be our last really hot day which is great except that I seem to be getting the headache that always accompanies the first cold front of the season.
I was commando because I was planning on doing some shopping but have just applied some November in the Temperate Deciduous Forest and put my jammie’s back on. I’m sitting on the patio, being screamed at by a mockingbird who has picked up a bluejay curse word or two, and irresponsibly contemplating a bottle of La Treizieme Heure for my birthday. What I actually need is a new pair of jeans since I tore my old favorites and they’re beyond repair, but who wants to shop for jeans – yuck. I’ll probably just be responsible, get another decant and go squeeze myself into some denim but I’m enjoying the idea of a splurge.
Happy Birthday Mikasminion! You shouldn’t feel guilty ordering something for yourself on your birthday. It’s a free pass. Ask anyone… ????
Birthday? Did someone say birthday? Is there cake? Just kidding, MM, Happy Birthday.
Thanks! It’s actually tomorrow but I wanted to get a head start.
Blue jay curse words! I love that.
Sballo in oil form was my scent of the day. I love wearing oil perfumes in hot weather.
Wore Le Labo Fleur d’Oranger 27 today, in unspeakable humidity. Nice pick.
My eagerness for fall has manifest in clothes rather than perfume…in the past week bought both a pair of (short) black boots and a “Le Smoking” – always wanted one. Getting anxious though. Headed to the Harvest Festival at Monticello this weekend. Think it will be cooler one state north? Yeah, I know, probably not.
