Pierre Bourdon ~ new niche line

Posted by Robin on 23 July 2015 9 Comments

Pierre Bourdon La Fin D'un Été and Le Grand Tour

Perfumer Pierre Bourdon has launched an eponymous niche perfume line. The initial collection includes five fragrances: three for women (La Dame en Rose, Sous les Magnolias, La Fin D'un Été) and two for men (Route des Épices, Le Grand Tour).

La Dame en Rose ~ "La dame en rose is inspired by pink-coloured notes of roses and raspberries and the novel figure Odette de Crecy (of French novelist Marcel Proust), which give this fragrance its character - a thoroughly feminine perfume." With red fruits, raspberry, clove, rose, violet, iris, cedarwood, vetiver, musk, vanilla, sandalwood and leather.

Sous les Magnolias ~ "Sous les magnolias is based on Pierre Bourdon's lifetime study and love of the magnolia flower. With exquisite magnolia essence this sensual perfume is made for dreamy and playful romanticists." With bergamot, aquatic notes, magnolia, rose, peach, cedarwood, vetiver, oakmoss, musk, ambergris and vanilla.

La Fin D'un Été ~ "La fin d'un été is opulent and fruity. Even though summer will end, this perfume saves its unique charm. Womanly, elegant and warm. Simply beautiful." With bergamot, ginger, plum, lily of the valley, jasmine, watermelon, patchouli, musk, amber and vetiver.

Route des Épices ~ "Route des épices is inspired by ancient trade routes, where precious spices were carried to Europe. The fascination of the Orient and its deep secrets are uniquely embodied in this extravagant fragrance. Exceptional, spicy, masculine." With bergamot, lavender, geranium, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, cumin, orange blossom, patchouli, olibanum, myrrh, cypriol, vetiver, vanilla, oud and labdanum.

Le Grand Tour ~ "Le grand tour is a snapshot - fresh with citric notes and fig leaves. Ideal for the active, joyful discoverer, who stylishly celebrates his passion for the new." With bergamot, aquatic notes, lavender, geranium, basil, watermelon, green tea, magnolia, fig leaf, patchouli, sandalwood, tonka bean and musk.

Pierre Bourdon La Dame en Rose, Sous les Magnolias, La Fin D'un Été, Route des Épices and Le Grand Tour are available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, and can be found in the UK at Fortnum & Mason or Bath & Unwind, £80 / $123 each.

How very reasonable everything sounds. And Pierre Bourdon — need anything more be said?

There are some sillier descriptions on the website (“A garden full of flourishing magnolias. The barefooted woman gently strides through the grass like a princess. The beauty of the moment is almost a little unreal…”) so apparently nobody is immune ;-)

It’s all about which PR firm you hire I guess.

I am an optimist, so I plan to try that magnolia. Route des Épices doesn’t sound bad either.

Let me know if it’s fantastic! I’m a cynic, and the aquatic notes pretty much did me in. Pierre Bourdon is a genius, but he does like aquatic notes.

Have no fear, if this turns out to be that perfect magnolia, you will never hear the end of it :)

Oh, that was supposed to be a reply… Sorry about that, but it is Friday afternoon here.

Hahahaha–too true! So I guess it must not be. But still the Pierre Bourdon Friday project has me curious to hear if anyone’s gotten a chance to sample any of these.
