It's Friday, and we're doing the Top 10 of Summer. Our community project for today: wear one of your own "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).
I'm in Eau de Guerlain, from Angie's 2015 list with André Gooren of The Perfume House.
Reminder: next Friday, 7/3, we're doing scented body products. Skip the perfume if you dare, and wear one or more scented body products.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Today I am wearing the slightly weird and totally wonderful Mugler Cologne as we end our second week of 90+ high temps.
Fantastic choice…it was on my own summer list for 2007.
Too many people have talked about this one – I have to try it.
It’s good, and I can share!
You smell pretty great! I am always amazed at how long this one lasts on me.
Robin, I just put Guerlain Eau de Guerlain on my list as one of the fragrances I need to try. Would your description of the fragrance be different than the one that was given on Angela’s post?
My SOTD is Jo Loves No. 42 The Flower Shop. This fragrance smells just like its name; a flower shop. It is amazing! It took a lot and a pretty penny to obtain this bottle, but it was well worth it. I definitely don’t like summer, but I sure do enjoy smelling like it. 🙂
You can see my review if you click on the link above…it’s one of my long time favorites (and made the first top 10 of summer list I ever did here, in 2005). Was so happy to see that on his list.
Jardin Sur le Nil today, and always in the heat. Mmmmm, fantastic summer frag. Any twins out there?
Just sniffed that at Sephora the other day and really liked it. Might need to get a sample.
I have a nearly full bottle, I’d be happy to give you a sample.
You’re a doll.
Might I also suggest an almost perfect duplicate that is much cheaper – Pacifica Lotus Garden. I used to own both and did a side-by-side – the Pacifica was a teeny bit sweeter, so that is the one I prefer. The Hermes is a bit sharper.
Not a twin, but that one also made my first top 10 list here (2005). And then I included the body lotion in my 2007 list. I still wear that body lotion all the time, it’s a great layering agent.
Not a twin either, but it is definitely in my summer top and one of my favorite perfumes overall.
That’s a summer staple for me too. One of my favorites, in fact.
I will wear one of my all-time favorites for a special-occasion-on-an-ordinary-day. Two fun social events planned, plus most likely a milestone to be reached in some work I am really very proud of doing. A Hanbury day!
Yay for you!
Congrats on your milestone!
Twins! I am the happy owner of a full bottle of Hanbury, which just arrived yesterday and was delivered late enough in the day for me to snatch it out of the driveway before it spent any time outside.
Congratulations on your milestone!
Thanks, all! Holly, so happy for your FB. 🙂
Congratulations on the milestone. Is this something we will hear about, as in writing/publication?
I am wearing one of the most cooling scents I own, Herba Fresca. Oh ! the mint….
Yum.
I keep hearing about that and thinking I need to sample it…
I’m wearing TDC Bergamote, one of the first summery full bottles I bought after the start of my perfumistadom. I think it was austenfan who recommended it and it’s still one of my favourite citrus scents.
Great scent that I did not wear as often as I thought I would, and sadly my decant went off ages ago.
It was actually the other way around for me – I don’t have many other fragrances in that category, so I’ve been wearing it a lot.
Good!
Love that one!
Yes! And it lasts so well, too, especially for a citrus.
I’m glad I did recommend it,( if I did) it’s a wonderful citrus and just an overall great fragrance. I think it’s the ginger that does it.
I think you did – or at least spoke about it in glowing tones:)
Terracotta! So glad it’s been added to Guerlain’s permanent collection, though I haven’t been out hunting for a backup bottle yet so hope this is actually true 🙂
They definitely reissued it, but no idea if it’s now part of the permanent collection (and indeed, I would not be sure anything was permanent other than Shalimar).
Very very true about the ‘permanent’ collection, Robin!
They didn’t have it a few weeks ago when I checked, but I see now The Bay has it for any fellow Canucks that missed out last year or also want a backup bottle. I am also very very happy they didn’t jack up the price when they reissued it – this has been one of my favourite ‘full-price bargains’ since I got into perfume!
SOTD is Carthusia Mediterraneo. And not only it is one of my summer favourites, it is one the few perfumes I can wear when I have a cold (like now). The combination of green tea and citruses smells healthy and invigorating.
Oh, I nearly chose that one for today, and likely will put some on this evening. You smell fresh and lovely!
L’arte di Gucci today, just because it’s beautiful. Thanks to the wonderfully generous fumie that passed me a sample and helped me fall in love.
I have to sincerely thank every single person that commented on my post yesterday about the abusive coworker. The kindness of this community always impresses me, and yesterday was no exception. I showed some of my friends the responses I received yesterday and they were all surprised that such a place existed on the internet. 🙂 You have helped to restore my confidence and make me feel that I am not alone.
Thanks to everyone who makes up this welcoming, warm, and caring community. I am so grateful to be a part of it.
You smell great!!! 😉
I do hope you’ll let us know how it went.
This and Nahema are my very favorite rose fragrances (and I have tried so many!). And I’m glad you’re finding friendship and support as part of the perfumista community.
I went with BV Knot today. I think of it as a fun, summer fragrance.
Yaaahhh! Love it. I will probably wear it tomorrow.
I love Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete for summer: it does tropical sunshine without any coconut, being completely dominated by carnations and vanilla, plus ylang for that beachy paradise feel.
I agree – Terracotta Voile d’Ete immediately says “beach” to me. I love the clove/carnation note in it, and it works so well in the heat too.
Twins! You smell lovely. 🙂
Gosh, that sounds pretty!!!
This one is definitely in my top 10 for summer! I wore it the day before yesterday. Then I had to go back to Apres l’Ondee again 😉
As predicted, I’m in Jour d’Hermes today. I love the bitter grapefruit opening, and the floral melange that follows. It’s soothing and summery and beautiful.
You smell great! It was probably my most-worn perfume last summer.
I thought about wearing one of my new summer loves but decided that it is an O de Lancôme day today. It is certainly one of my oldest summer favorites and has more backbone than many of the others. The kittens discovered last night that they can play after lights out and our bedroom is the only kitten proof room so I got very little sleep.
Ô de Lancôme is wonderful stuff: I don’t know what it smells like now (maybe it’s still awesome!) but in the eighties it was glorious, all pungent herbs and crisp florals and citrus, bright as a stroke of lightning. It was the first women’s scent that I felt I could wear with impunity, back when I cared about things like that.
🙂
Is there a better feeling in the world than just not giving a…..whatever?
I was going to choose Terracotta voile d’ete, but went with LesNez Manoumalia at the last moment. Fromt he reviews I read opinions seem to be divided. Me, I fall into the “love at first sniff” category. It’s so rich, and almost humid-felling, but in a good way.
I love, love, love that one. Just so you know which category I fall into. 😉
Manoumalia is amazing, and you smell fantastic! It’s like a mini vacation to the islands surrounding you in a cloud 😀
Good morning, all. Sleepless night here (it’s 2.30 in the morning for me) so I’ve wrapped myself in a comforter and a fog of Jungle Elephant, taken my daft but adorable cat on my knee, and I’m marking exam papers. I’m not remotely convinced by any of the essays I’ve read so far, but the warmly spiced glories of Jungle are sweetening my mood somewhat. Jungle is definitely another winter top tenner for me. It’s good company this cold night. I know that it sings just the one song rather loudly and theatrically, but it’s the best fun, it lasts forever and it certainly travels. In fact, it’s possible that these exam scripts will be returned slightly scented. Lucky for those students, say I.
How lovely it would be as a student to receive a graded exam paper that smelled lightly of your perfume! And you could do a whole lot worse than Jungle Elephant in the winter.
Love that one! You smell wonderful.
I once got back a research paper that smelled so heavily of cigarette smoke I had to air it out! Would have loved for it to smell like l’Elephant!
Cigarette smoke! Horrible! I’m giving a lot of C /C-/D grades: let’s hope that a whisper of Jungle softens the blow a bit. My poor mad cat now smells deliciously Kenzo-ed too, and his mother is assiduously washing him all over to return him to normal. She’s being so thorough that his fur is sticking up in little damp tufts, but clearly, he still smells all wrong, because she stops, checks, gives me A Look, and goes right back at it.
Oh dear. Four in the morning: I really have to sleep!
Sorry for the lack of sleep, but the kitty storyline is adorable.
Wearing a long time summer favorite, Bulgari Au The Blanc. It’s one of my few perfumes that I have purchased multiple times.
Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint is my SOTD.
I’m still struggling with my allergies/sinuses, so White Jasmine & Mint works perfectly for this. And, works perfectly for the heat.
I went to the Dr. yesterday, and I’m on an antibiotic, decongestant and nasal spray. I hope to get on the road to recovery, so I can enjoy the weekend.
Happy Friday!
I’m brightening up an overcast day with the juicy sunshine of Pamplelune.
Bexca, that’s a gorgeous one. You smell great!
By Kilian Rose Oud for me. Perhaps not the most obvious choice, but it’s perfect for a cooler summer day like today. It won me over when I tucked a paper strip into my handbag and later noticed that my phone smelled like the most beautiful roses. As for the price: I keep telling myself that the refill bottle is a relative bargain. 😉
I’m wearing Fresh Citron de Vigne, my summer go-to. Only a few drops left in the bottle! Luckily this one will not break the bank to resupply.
I am wearing Fior D’Arancio by Laura Tonatto, which is something I keep near by in hotter weather, as I wear it a lot. It just always smells right for any occasion.
Lovely stuff, one of my favorite orange blossom scents!
Eau de Guerlain sounds very nice. I really need to try the Guerlain Eaux range. I keep seeing references to them, but haven’t encountered one in the wild. Plus, I’m itching for a bee bottle in my collection.
Wearing Fils de Dieu, which is definitely on my summer top 10 list.
Eau de Guerlain was at Nordstrom fairly recently but don’t know if it still is.
It isn’t at my local Nordy’s, but I made it down to the big one (South Coast Plaza) this week, and they had it.
SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa
Fantastic iris perfume, perfect for warm weather (and the cold too) but fleeting. We need an extrait of this that will hopefully stay longer!
Agreed. That one is definitely deserving of a version that will last.
I will third that.
I’m in 28 LP as well. I have friends from work coming over to my place later, and one of them is very sensitive to “strong” fragrances so I figured this one won’t offend.
It is quite sheer with no sillage – the perfect office scent combination.
I wore it yesterday and I agree with every single word you say.
I should get some of this. Adorable hubby loves my lighter Iris’s – his reaction to both Iris Poudre and Infusion d’Iris is “Hubba, hubba!” I’ve never heard him say that in any other context.
🙂
Wearing my #1 summer perfume favorite, Nuit de Tubereuse. I’ve drained my first 100 ml bottle and now working on bottle number two.
That’s dedication!
This week I challenged myself. I only wore fragrances I wanted to test and most of them were way out of my comfort zone. Today is quite possibly the worst of the bunch (most of them have been misses), Deliria by L’Artisan Parfumeur. This is a Duchaufour scent and I’m not impressed at all. In fact, I’m about to scrub it off because it’s so nauseating. It’s straight up metal shavings and sugar. I don’t get the candy apple or cotton candy part. It’s just metal and sugar in the worst way possible.
The weather went weird from being super hot to almost cool by the end of the week so I knew I’d be out for the summer scent challenge. It doesn’t even feel like summer outside right now.
Back to comfort zone fragrances next week!
Metal shavings and sugar sounds kind of interesting, but I’m going to take your word for it (and after reading Angela’s NST review I’m even less interested). I never had any impetus to try the Explosions d’Emotions scents because they seemed grossly overpriced for what they were.
I was intrigued by it and some have had a much better experience since the metal was more subdued on them. It was completely amplified on me and the sharp contrast between the sugar sweetness and metal is too much. I really want to go home and douse myself in Dior Homme for comfort. I did that the other night after testing out Clean White Woods.
Nice new icon!
Thanks. It’s still an old photo though, haha!
Feeling happy today and wearing one of my favorite summer fragrances, Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte.
Yes! That’s a good one.
One of my favourites too!
Bought a bottle of Cristalle Eau Verte, in my summer top 10!
SOTD is one of my most recent love and is perfect for summer: Eau de Magnolia
A great choice – some day I will get a decant of this!
It’s Friday!!! 😀
SOTD: Guerlain’s Terracotta Le Parfum.
It’s much newer than many great summer scents but it has taken a spot in my top 10!
I was also considering Mr. Ford’s Neroli Portofino (love it too!) and Light Blue (not on my list but definitely iconic enough to worth considering about I guess.) 🙂
Going with Eau des Merveilles today. After all this time down the rabbit hole, it still stands tall as a top favorite of mine. I do wear it year round but in the summer it is perfection, singing a sweet little tune in my ear all day long.
I love that one. For top summer frags that and Jour d’Hermes are my favorites.
It really does come to life in the summer!
I had this, swapped it, got another bottle, almost swapped it again, now it’s a summer favorite. In other words it took me a long time to come around! I just love that salty edge.
EdM has been my most frequent scent lately. I’m hooked. I may have to cave and purchase a big bottle, at the rate I’m draining my 15mL. It seems perfect for just about anything. As the Fragrance Bros would say, a Swiss Army Knife fragrance, or a dumb reach scent–something I can grab when I’m not really sure what I want or what my day will hold. I love the lingering warm sparkle it has. Great choice.
You smell great.
Perfect for summer – I bought the deodorant spray too.
Hotter than the devil’s armpit here! I went with AG Ninfeo Mio.
As soon as I spritz this one, I feel instantly rejuvenated!
Happy Friday to all 🙂
I laughed aloud after reading “hotter than the devil’s armpit”. I love sayings like that. The one my dad always said for winter is: it’s cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.
I love little saying like that as well, although I don’t think most appreciate that type of humor these days.
As far as cold is concerned, one of my mothers favorites was, “It’s colder than a well diggers a$$ out there!”
I think she would have gotten along famously with your dad 😉
I’m adopting the brass-monkey quote straight away!
Ninfeo Mio for me, too.
That combination of fig and citrus just epitomizes summer! And, contrary to both the majority of Goutals and to fresh scents in general, it lasts the whole day.
Started off with my favorite Séville à l’Aube on a cooler summer day. Took the day off work to do a bunch of errands. Succumbed to temptation at Macy’s and bought the little travel refill of Chanel No 5, and had to give myself one spray to make sure it worked. So now, not only do I smell a lot, I smell very very good! The rest of my day off will be spent tidying up, with some cheerful movie going in the background for a sound track. Maybe Enchanted April, or A Good Year…
Ah Seville l’Aube is so gorgeous! So are your movie choices, I’ll bet I’ve watched Enchanted April a dozen times at least 🙂
I love Enchanted April! Few people have even heard about it. Nice to know there is a fellow fan here!
I loved reading all of the best of summer lists this morning 🙂 Soo many I have not tried! It makes me realize how little of my perfume collection is devoted to lighter scents, which might be more of an issue when I move to the Bay area in a month. Sel de Vetiver for today!!
Wowee! I love the Bay area. My brother used to libe in SF and I found every excuse to go visit!
SOTD is Hermes Eau des Merveilles (waves to Gi, Hi, scent twin!). I love all of the Merveilles line but none more so than the Eau. Very few scents work for the wide range of ‘summer’ weather here, but this one does. On a chilly and cloudy fall-like day like today, the amber brings the warmth of sunshine; on a hot, sunny summer day, the refreshing orange note is so welcome. And I find its classic elegance suitable for any occasion day or evening.
Hi Scent twin! You smell marvellous! 🙂
And I agree completely with everything you said. Perfectly versatile.
Chanel Beige. This was my wedding scent, although on the actual day all the hairspray holding up my ‘do was more powerful. All my guy smelled was “oatmeal” – that’s some $$$ oatmeal!
Definite Top Ten for the scent and the memories 🙂
I like oatmeal. 🙂
Oatmeal, the scent of romance 😉
🙂
That is a gorgeous fragrance for a wedding.
Well, I was all prepped to douse myself in my summer favorite, Tauer’s Zeta, but then got inspired by a comment on Angie’s Top Ten list about White Shoulders in the heat. . . SOooo, I decided to give it a go! SOTD: Vintage-ish White Shoulders.
I’ve been craving florals this summer and I think my tastes are really evolving right now. I tried a few dabs of Carnal Flower a couple days ago, and LOVED it in the heat! It is a sample I kept around, hoping that maybe I would *get* it some day. Apparently that day has come. And I already mentioned earlier this week that I’ve finally understood Infusion d’Iris. I feel like I need to dig through my samples and retry everything. I no longer can speak with certainty that I don’t like something “everyone” else seems to like!
That’s so funny that that’s where you’re headed, hajusuuri. I was thinking this morning of trying to dig out a sample of Fracas that I never wear. 🙂 (But didn’t.)
‘Cept that I can’t read. (sigh) Sorry, Marjorie Rose. Can I plead middle-aged eyes? Or just lack of brain.
Haha. No worries. 🙂
Let me know how the Fracas goes with summertime, if you decide to dig in some time!
Hee – now I feel really special that you thought it was me 🙂
Scent twins! (It was me who commented about White Shoulders)
And I can’t read. But I’m pro big white florals in the summer. 🙂
It was a lovely suggestion, thank you! Post-workout and post-shower, I have switched to L’Heure Bleue. But I expect to wear more big florals this summer. 😀
The perennial and beautiful Beth Terry Creative Universe’s “Element of Surprise”. Citrus and tea in perfect combination. I wish I knew where my backup bottles had got to in the move; this baby’s long gone.
I got a small decant of that in a swap, which is sadly almost gone – it is very nice!
I’m wearing soft and light Magnolia Grandiflora Sandrine, which is remarkably true to the flower and easy to wear.
That is lovely stuff. I think it may be the closest thing to magnolia flower. You smell fantastic 😀
Vintage White Shoulders is my favorite summer perfume and what I’m wearing today
My best friend from high school wore this and she wore a lot of it. Can’t help thinking of her when I smell it..
I live in the summer swamp that is Florida (and so far this summer has been particularly swampy), so I have a ton of summer favorites in my collection. I thought about Jacomo #8 or one of the PdN Eaux, but I finally went with Ava Luxe Fig Leaf, the greenest, leafiest fig I own. Refreshing and perfect in this weather.
😀 *Waving at fellow Floridian*
**Waving back**
SOTD is Cartier Baiser Vole edp which is just so outstanding and one of my fav summer frags now.
I was going to go with Les Nuits d’Hadrien, but since it’s so breezy and shockingly not humid outside, I chose La Perla Eclix instead. It fits the sunny and not too hot day, and will be festive enough to wear out this evening without smothering me or anyone else. 🙂
I wore the Nuits d’Hadrian for you. Not long lasting, but it works since my breathing is still not up to par. Oh, 102 here today.
Wearing Le Labo Baie Rose 26 layered with Acqua Di Parma Colonia Leather. Starts out smelling something like a citrusy lipstick then calms to a lovely leather rose.
Atelier Cologne’s Sous le toit de Paris today, in it’s violet leaf glory. I drained a 30mL FB and caved and bought the ginormous bottle. It is a summer staple, and never fails to make me smile. I wish they had a soap/lotion of this. (BTW, now I always think of you, Hajusuuri, with this scent, as you seem to give it lots of love and skin time as well.)
You guys smell fantastic today, as a group, and I should take notes. I live in super hot, humid climate most of the year, so this is great information. Lots of scents to explore!
I love this one too and also think of Hajusuuri because my split of this came through her… Violet leaf is wonderful and I agree this is a year-rounder.
Mwah!
One of my favorites too, though to me it is best on a wet day 🙂
Sous le toit de Paris is perfect. When I saw Atelier Cologne founder Christophe Cervasel, I expressed my interest in Sous le toit de Paris body products and he said that he will take it under consideration (ah huh) and he said that new body products are added based on popularity by sales. Being the contrarian hajusuuri, I pointed out that SLTDP did not stand a chance then due to its limited distribution. In any case, a girl can keep dreaming 🙂
I’ve been away and internet free for the past week, so I didn’t know what the challenge was. I’m wearing Une Fleur de Cassie, which is great no matter what the weather is.
A great, great fragrance.
dug out my sample of CDG #3…I don’t know if citruses suit me as well as they do the heat
I love Juste un rêve for summer! Fruity, coconut-y floral.. delicious!
And it lasts a long time too..
Heat wave beginning here, yuck, but I’m cool in the air conditioning and smell great in Atelier’s Mandarine Glaciale, wonderful citrus twist in this one.
FM Eau de Magnolia is my new summer love. Oh how I love this magnolia! Similar to Magnolia Nobile but more floral, less citrus.
L’Ombre dans L’Eau for me today.
Gucci Flora violet.
Much to my own surprise, my absolute top fragrance of this summer as been Apres L’Ondee (the modern formulation). It’s cooling and sheer at the same time as it is beautiful and intriguing. So I don’t have to settle for refusing but one dimensional. I’m so glad I came around to loving this well-deserved classic.
Scent-free today – working from home today and was planning to wear AG Le Chevrefeuille, but my migraine prone husband is home as well today, with a migraine so no fragrance for me.
I’m in Creed Virgin Island Water today. Lime, coconut, rum, ginger, and some jasmine. Like being on a beach under a palm tree with at tropical drink in your hand. Wish I were–instead I’m baking in Portland with unseasonably high temperatures and no a/c, because in Portland you don’t need a/c. Ha!
I just got a sample of that, and am saving it for a muggy day.
Eau du Sud during the very hot day here in Spain, and A la Nuit in the evening. Still 33 degrees C. here at 23.45 hrs. It causes A la Nuit to sing.
Thought about Eau des Merveilles for today since like others here I find it a treat in the heat that also works wonders with winter’s chill. But then I saw that bottle of Eau de Guerlain and had to join in.
As I dabbed on some of the Guerlain a waft of ylang hit my nose. After a moment of confusion I realized I was getting the leftovers from last night’s Chanel No. 22, then the Eau de Guerlain took over. So nice.
Eau Sauvage.
I’m wearing Au Della by Bruno Fazzolari today from a sample. I’m curious if anyone owns or has tried this scent and if so, what do you think? My sample is only a dabber. I REALLY want to buy a bottle but I am wondering if I should try it in a atomizer before I do? I think it’s really gorgeous but it has a bit of cumin in the opening and I usually detest cumin…
Well, you could wait and try it in an atomizer, but alternatively, if you buy it and don’t like it sprayed, just decant some into a small bottle. I have at least 1 scent I do that with 🙂
I have a bottle of this and it doesn’t smell like cumin to me… I guess if it’s in there the dose is smallish. I agree with Robin, you can always dab it if spraying is too much. I do this with a couple of scents.
Great idea! Thanks to you both!
Fleurs de Sel. I may be two thousand miles from the Atlantic, but I think summer should smell like the beach.
Sage Onyx for me, the edt version. Coconut and vanilla and musk, but not overly sweet. I don’t get much tobacco or oakmoss, but maybe they’re what make it more interesting/less cloying than you’d expect. I used up the last of my 5ml decant from last summer, and just ordered more. There are 15ml bottles of edt available at her website–hooray! Although I may regret not getting a bigger bottle. I wore this a lot last summer, as I like citrusy perfumes, but after a few days in a row of smelling like grapefruit, I need a break. The Non-Blonde’s review suggests that the oil version is not as summery as the edt, but I’m hoping to try it for myself. (Maybe I’ll have a new winter favorite.) Now I’m off to read all the Best Perfumes for Summer Lists (hooray! again).
Not summer over here…sounds better than “Icy-cold mornings, overcast and windy”-which is this years’ winter in South Africa. So SOTYesterday was Amouage Opus VIII,plush, cozy and very chic.Does NOT suit me nor my personality at all.Lol.It was test-day so I went with it anyway.Happy weekend folks!
If I were to wear a Summer favorite,it would probably have been either Monsieur Balmain or Idylle.Such different perfumes, but love both in the heat.Idylle and all her flankers makes me smile and feel refreshed.Monsieur B is just the most bittery-lemony-edc-perfume for a citrus kick when you need it.Lovely stuff.
