Happy strawberries & cream day! What's your fragrance?
I'm wearing Jo Malone Assam & Grapefruit. Tea at the moment: Upton Jade Mao Feng.
Reminder: this Friday, 22 May, wear something from Jo Malone or perfumer Christine Nagel.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SOTD is BV Knot. The first time I tried it I didn’t care for it, but the second time is a charm. I think I just over sprayed the last time. Good for the nice spring weather today.
I was just wondering if we’d see a flanker for Knot soon…
I love Knot. Will probably buy a FB really soon.
I’m right in line behind you 😉
It’s just lovely and such a pleasure to wear!
I didn’t love it when I tried it either. Perhaps I should give it another try too. It appears to have many fans here!
SOTD: Attar (Montale) 🙂
One of 5000 Montales I have not tried!
I have only sampled a handful, I was repulsed by the rose in this one and eventually came around…
It is really strong upon application and then fairly quickly fades.
I’m in Premier Figuier Extreme. I’ve been in a figgy mood lately. I adore PFE, though it comes second to Philosykos, the best fig ever.
I LOVE Philosykos but it doesn’t last on me. Does PFE last longer??
It lasts a little longer I think, but the in the later stages I get more sandalwood and less fig, which is why I like Philosykos a little bit more. PFE is lovely though; it’s softer and more floral. I have the solid perfume of Philosykos, which I keep in my bag so I can reapply, since it doesn’t last that long on me either.
I was really surprised at the lasting power of the Pacifica Mediterranean Fig I wore yesterday, very impressive! And very nice if you like a green, unripened fig.
Wearing Bill Blass Nude today, and really enjoying it.
An oldie but goodie 🙂
I’m wearing Boxeuses. Getting tired of the gloomy weather in Colorado. This is not the sunny CO I know!
Same in northern New Mexico. Ugh!
I really need a full bottle of Boxeuses. I loved every drop of the decant I had a few years ago. If they ever do it as an export bottle I’m snapping it right up.
I want one tooooooo
It is gray and icky here in San Diego too… and I wore Boxeuses yesterday. Unfortunately it will be like this until July as we have a weather phenomenon called May Gray/June Gloom which means overcast every day ….
Oy, it’s gloomy and chilly here in PA too. All my sprouts are in limbo. I almost pulled out my warm fall fragrances for today!
SOTD is Sa Majeste La Rose. I’ve been wearing this true rose a lot lately, just can’t seem to get enough!
I’m amazed that Serge Lutens did three different roses and managed to have them be so different and yet all good. Sa Majesté la Rose is definitely the best of the three (to my nose): if I were going to own a full bottle of any of them it would be that one.
It is my favourite Rose from SL, you smell fab
But at least no snow here.
🙂
SOTD Guerlain Vetiver.
Slices right through the thick, humid air and gives me a bit of energy. I have been spaying lavishly and really enjoying this one.
It’s supposedly a tester but I don’t think it was ever used because not only is it full, but I had to depress the pump several time to get to the juice. It’s missing the cap but who cares? I got it for a song! I love when that happens 🙂
Congratulations on this great deal. Guerlain Vetiver is perfection.
I found mine surprisingly at either TJMaxx or Marshall’s a number of years ago inexpensively, too. A great blind buy!
I’ve never tried Vetiver but my sample should arrive in the mail today! Everyone’s been gushing about it so can’t wait to give it a go.
I like Guerlain Vetiver too. It is so refreshing and uplifting. I find it a great pick me up late in the day.
Vintage Samsara. Gotta love the eighties, especially seen through Guerlain glasses.
Vintage Samsara is incredibly good — so simple and yet well constructed. (You can get away with anything if you use high-quality ingredients.)
Years ago a friend passed on an unwanted jar of Samsara cream (or creme). It was great quality and not too scented. It was the first time it struck me that something I might not wear as the perfume could be just fine as a body product.
Biggest crime of all time – I left the house without perfume. So, I have a bottle of Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme at the office that I just put on!
Now that is smart. It’s like keeping an umbrella or a spare pair of socks at work (both of which I also do).
Great frag to keep at the office!
I ♥ Rose Anonyme!
Emergency Backup Perfume!
Got up at 6, put on a couple of shots of Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete, tropical carnation magic. An hour later, figured it wasn’t enough, so added two spritzes of CDG Carnation, aka Attack of the Killer Carnations. By 10:45 it had faded enough that I decided it was time for a few blasts of Caron Coup de Fouet. Yeah, it’s carnation day. Who knows? I might wear vintage Old Spice after I shower.
I love your enthusiasm!
Where do you get vintage OD?
It’s not something that people used to collect…. I’m curious!
that was supposed to be “vintage OS” LOL
It’s not VINTAGE vintage, unfortunately: it’s probably fifteen years old, but frankly anything that old counts as vintage these days because of the changes brought about by regulation. Old Spice in the stores now doesn’t smell as good as what I have (I check from time to time), and what I have probably doesn’t smell as good as the Old Spice our fathers wore.
You are right, I also have an old Old Spice that I enjoy a lot, I compared it with the new ones and the one I have is better.
Death by Carnation today? 😉
Death By Carnation it is. You can NEVER have enough carnations. At least I can’t. My favourite flower by a huge margin.
I love it too!
And a whole bunch of names just got added to my to-sample list…
One of these days I need to get a really good carnation soliflore for my collection.
I’m getting ready for Friday and wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt, one of my favourites from Jo Malone. I always have this embarrassing impulse to also mention what clothes I wear, because it plays a big role in my SOTD decision (or the other way around). I originally planned to wear Birch & Black Pepper, but WS&SS works much better with my pale grey cashmere sweater and even paler midi pencil skirt.
You aren’t alone, it does for me too! The fragrance has to coordinate with both colors and styles!
Sounds like a perfect fragrance for that outfit 🙂
My fragrance has to work with my clothes, too (and my mood, the weather, where I’m going . . . )
Scent twin! After wearing Birch & Black Pepper for two days running, I went with this. But no matching specifically to clothes yet, love the idea though!
Seeing the photo of tea and that it’s strawberry & cream day reminded me of when I was gifted a glass teapot for my birthday. My fiance bought it from Adagio Teas and I got a sample of my “birthday tea”, which is Libra from their zodiac tea series. It was strawberry and chocolate, but it was a creamy and smooth as well. I really want more of that tea now thinking about it.
Coffee for me this morning, but may switch to some oolong this afternoon.
I’ve been trying to use up samples this week and feel like I’ve been wearing lots of “weak” scents. Yesterday’s oxymusc was awful, but today’s Chloe Roses is slightly better. All of this is in preparation for JoMa tomorrow. I’m not a huge fan and have some samples I need to use up.
Have you tried Love Tea #7 from David’s Tea? It is also a strawberry/chocolate (black) tea that has a smooth creamy taste.
Is Libra (my zodiac too 🙂 ) a black tea as well?
Thanks, I’ll check that one out.
Yes, the Libra one from Adagio is a black tea.
That tea sounds wonderful! Oxymusc, by its very name, sounds like a no-go!
It really does. Is that a reference to oxycontin? Oxidized musk? What a marketing gaffe.
Oxymoron? That which it is not?
Bingo!
Or Oxyclean ? Oooooh ! I get to smell like laundry treatment !
Theorema. I was so excited to pick up a mini in a swap not too long ago. This will be my first proper wearing, when I need to be nurturing and supportive. I hope the smell will give my efforts that little boost.
How lucky you are to have gotten it! Theorema is a holy grail and absolutely one of a kind. My mini is about half empty and I am hoarding those last couple of mLs: I know I should wear it more often because if I don’t it might go off some day when I least expect it….
I have 2 old bottles, and they are holding up incredibly well so far. Knock on wood.
That’s good news!
Robin, I know you’ve got perfume commitments, so this might not apply to you in the same way. But for the regular perfumista-on-the-street, I always vote for wearing it right now. And then I hoard my own ‘good stuff,’ against my own advice. It’s kind of funny what primal urges our perfume reveals, even apart from all those urge-y smells.
I am not hoarding it, I promise! Actually Theorema is probably in my most-worn group.
My appointment to nurture and support got postponed, so I’m switching to Eau de Calandre. I wanted to wear Theorema in sync tomorrow anyhow.
Scent of the day is Coromandel, which I haven’t worn in a very long time. At first, it reminds me a little of Shalimar, but as frankincense sometimes does, this goes the tiniest bit sour on me. I still like Coromandel, but Chanels never quite feel at home on my skin.
My choice today as well 😉
It’s a little too heavy for warm weather but we’ve been having a real spring this year in nyc and high 50s works just fine for this gem.
On me it’s cozy and just perfect.
That’s too bad.
Oh well, more Chanel for me! ;p
Guerlain l’Homme l’Eau Boisée today. I like this one but I wish I could turn the volume up just a little–I don’t want it loud just a bit above a whisper.
I’m embarrassed to admit I had to look this one up. It seems your assessment is on par with Kevin’s review.
Not very popular- but Carven le perfum today.
Doesn’t get much love but I love it and I smell fab!
I love Carven!! You do smell fab 🙂
I really like it as well. I think I may pick up a mini off ebay soon.
Vintage Monsieur Balmain on this gorgeous sunny day. Spring in a bottle.
Oh, please tell about that one. I’m so curious!
Aromatics Elixir. The original and still the best. Tea is an Earl Grey Darjeeling, very crisp and very bracing.
Speaking of AE – I was at a kind of more free-form family and friends baby shower a few days ago. I was talking to these people that I’d just met, when this woman (an old teacher of the dad) just kind of gracefully sauntered in and this amazing cloud of AE came in with her. I do enjoy wearing AE, but I enjoy smelling it on other people more. She was amazing.
I can totally appreciate that. The sillage from a distance is the best part, but wearing it more often has made me fonder of the opening and the more difficult parts of it.
I love how Luca Turin compared it to Lauren Bacall in The Big Sleep.
Chanel No. 19 is my SOTD.
I’m drinking Darjeeling tea this morning.
I’m looking at the bag of tea leaves, and it says Darjeeling tea, Enigma Leaf Assam.
Very tasty!
I love Darjeeling and haven’t had any in a long time – must go find! I used to have a HUGE canister of loose-leaf Darjeeling from Murchie’s in Canada, but it got lost in one of several moves years ago. Love the name Enigma Leaf too – so intriguing!
Next to the last scent in my Nest coffret is Dahlia & Vines. When I first put it on, I couldn’t smell it, the top notes seem to be something I am anosmic to. However, I am now smelling more so the damp, warm day may be either helping my nose or helping the scent develop.
How are you liking them overall? I’ve been thinking about getting one of their coffrets.
I am working through a five scent coffret of .25 oz. minis that I purchased for $30 at Sephora online. I no longer see that deal on the Sephora website. So far I’ve tried 4 of the five fragrances. I liked Paradise and Indigo very much. I was less impressed with White Sandalwood, but it is considered a men’s fragrance and that may have prejudiced me. I am wearing Dahlia & Vines today, and when I put it on initially I really couldn’t smell it, but now I can. So far my favorites have been Paradise and Indigo. I feel that the price I paid for the coffret was certainly worth what I received.
Trying out Midnight Oud by juliet has a gun today- thought it was a bit overpowering with rose at first but after half an hour, it got nice and quiet. I’m actually enjoying it a lot =)
Happy “Friday Eve” everyone! Continuing with the “Jo Malone” theme, my SOTD is a mixture of Sakura Cherry Blossom and Pomegranate Noir. The two together brings out both the cherry and pomegranate. Just FYI for those that aren’t aware, but ALL of the Jo Malone fragrances are designed to be combined with another. So, you can’t make a mistake with it. One of the executive directors from the company shared this with me. Now, I am truly going to start combining everything to see if I can make some new scents I will enjoy. Have a good day everyone!
I mix and match several of them. I keep a supply of the crèmes and lotions so I can put those on first and the cologne over them. That brand works about the best for me of any of them out there. I guess I like the more subtle notes.
I think that’s why I’m such a big fan of the line – I get to play perfumer!
Today I’m wearing vintage Eau de Givenchy. It’s such a gorgeous creamy light floral with really subtle honey facets. Although it’s light, it has many layers and it is a rather complex perfume. Beautiful and just perfect for today’s weather, sunny and warm .
So excited to try that one! I’ve got a decant coming to me in a swap.
I love that perfume… so wonderful.
The Eau de Givenchy soap is the platonic ideal of Fancy Soap.
Random purse sample today is Kilian Rose Oud
I love the By Killian Amber Oud sample I got from someone or other – how is the Rose Oud?
I find it jammy and sweet. Good stuff in my book.
I like it but I’m more in the mood for something that hasn’t arrived yet, specifically Iris Ganache. Hopefully all my stuff gets here tomorrow so I can have lots more scent choices
Hmm, strawberries and cream day, wish I had a scent that captured those lovely aromas! But the sun finally came out today after several days’ absence and my strawberry plants are responding gratefully with lots of blooming white flowers, so I will wait patiently for the blossoms to turn into luscious fruits.
My lilacs are still blossoming and I am, too, in Pacifica French Lilac.
I think a lilac scent is next on my to buy list. Do you know how the Pacifica one compares to others, such as En Passant? I’m curious if any are worth the $ or if I should just but a cheap one and spray as much as I want.
I cannot be the only one here who loves the smokey, resinous smell of Grandpa”s Wonder Pine Tar Soap? Followed up by Terre D’Hermes Parfum and I am off to work…..
Nope. You aren’t alone. I love Pine Tar Soap and now want to huff some so, guess what I’m buying next? 😉
Rescued by my scent twin! Pine tar soap is quite inexpensive if that is any consolation for my enabling you!
I could have purchased 20 bars of pine tar soap for what the Terre D’Hermes cost. I might have preferred the soap! I think I am having a bit of an olfactive breakdown. Many fragrances I normally love I am finding annoying and not pleasant to wear. Hopefully it is just a phase that will pass quickly.
That happens to everyone occasionally, I think. I know I go through phases where my favorite perfumes all smell too artificial or just don’t appeal.
I’m on my third scent: Cuir d’Ange and Cuir de Nacre in the morning and now Lumiere Blanche.
Note twin with Laila today as I am wearing En Passant. Lovely for spring!
Kind of LOLing from that Kiss My perfume. How about a perfume called Pull My Finger? Calling it, that’s next. lol
Ambre by MdO. Such a great amber, that I cannot afford.
Thanks for today’s chuckle. I was thinking that the Kiss My Whatever scent was a Prix Eau Faux entry anyway . . . 🙂
I remember thinking that the Kiss My Face (sunscreen?) brand must have been named after an affection-demanding kitty.
Heure Exquise, it is still love.
😉
Sampling Siam Proun by Olympic Orchid. Lots of herbs and amber. I’m enjoying it.
Seville a’lAube! I am wafting through the orange grove of life…LOL!
Must be feeling a bit nostalgic today, went with Love’s Baby Soft. Ah, the memories.
My very first little fragrance was Love’s Fresh Lemon… my older sister got the bottle of Baby Soft. I keep one of those aerosol sprayers of Baby Soft just for the memories.
SOTD is English Pear & Freesia. I like the overripe pear, almost boozy (it smells just like our backyard when I was a kid and tons of pears had fallen down the trees and been left to lay on the ground for too long! Sounds yucky, but I like it!). Probably better for Fall though.
Wearing Jo Malone Wisteria and Violet today. It’s pretty, but didn’t exactly hit the spot on this sunny, warm, breezy day. So far it has lasted almost four hours. I’m looking forward to it wearing off so I can change into something else.
How ironic – a Jo Malone that actually lasts, and you wish it didn’t. 😉
Isn’t that the truth.
Does it really smell like Wisteria at all? I want a Wisteria scent to compare to Wisteria Hysteria…
I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever smelled real Wisteria, so I can’t say. My guess is no. It seems to be more like non-descript, pretty-enough, light floral. Not bad, just missing that special something.
Micallef Denis Durand Couture, for this grey day.
I have a big crush on that scent.
I’m wearing Ferragamo pour Femme today. Never quite made up my mind if I like this one. I’ve tried to swap it away and to give it away but never got any takers, so I figured I might as well give it another chance.
Cuir de Russie….just perfect.
Today I really wanted to wear Safran Troublant, but I couldn’t find my sample. I gave up after searching for five minutes and put on Mohur instead. (I know, poor, poor, pitiful me.) I just found the sample in my bag.
Mohurrrr…. makes me purrrr….LOL!
Scent twins! I haven’t worn this in a while and it’s been so perfect for this sunny yet cold day!
Cool rainy day here. I’m going to have a hard time topping yesterday’s Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel. Might be a good day to test my sample of the new version of L’AP Tea for Two.
Fleurs de Sel is really an outstanding and very unique fragrance.
Wearing Philosophy Falling in Love today – wanted something sweet an simple. It’s blackberries, not strawberries but close enough! I’ll be wearing my Assam & Grapefruit tomorrow.
I’m not much of a fan of that line, but Falling in Love is a winner. Fruity without being sugary. I have a half full shower gel somewhere. It will be perfect this time of year.
SOTD = Jo Malone Birch & Black Pepper
Warm, spicy, leans a touch masculine. This was my favorite of the most recent launch. I’m still waitng for the dry down which I understand has vanilla but so far it has remained elusive. I have not tried layering this although it seems that it will play nicely with several notes – rose? vanilla? amber?
I’ve been playing with that one a lot lately. Anything sweet tends to work well. Vanilla and Anise was good, as was Nectarine Blossom and Honey. Pomegranate Noir seems like it was just destined to be a match. (No surprise since they were in the Rock of Ages line together.) Wild Fig and Cassis, not so much. They were two sharp fragrances up against each other. And that was the bath oil – much softer than the spray would have been. I never got a vanilla drydown. When I wear it I smell like a campfire until I go to sleep. The next morning it’s just yesterday’s smoke until I shower. I don’t know if that’s good or not.
It seems to have longevity as this is now 10+ hours and I can still smell it (in a very good way) without trying hard. I’ll try it with Pomegranate Noir!
SOTD is Le Temps d’Une Fete, to get me through a tough day at work. It doesn’t exactly straighten my spine the way No. 19 does, but it helps me keep my cool in the face of impatience and adversity. Ommmmm.
I wanted to wear Wit today for lunch with some old high school friends, but I couldn’t find it in my jumble of samples so settled for Eau Merveilleuse and was Oh so Marvelous. It’s pretty much gone now, though.
Wearing Theorema (woman’s – the man’s version makes me smell like pizza), one of my favourite perfumes. Oranges, spice, cream, and amber – a wonderful scent that is gourmand/oriental, but doesn’t smell like cake (not that there is anything wrong with that!).
The JM’s I have are Nutmeg and Ginger, and French Lime Blossom, both great, but when I wear Theorema I usually become so charmed by it I wear it for many consecutive days. YMMV 🙂
Hello everyone. I haven’t posted here very much lately, at least in the sotd threads, due to my sense of smell being knocked out by a cold. It seems to be on the mend now. The mayday trees are in bloom here and i can smell their fragrance from a block away. I wonder if the blossoms would yield an absolute?
As for my sotd, I just sprayed on some L’Eau de L’Artisan. My bottle arrived from fragrancex today (along with a fragrancex nail file. Hooray?). I’m so pleased to have this on hand again. It will definitely get a lot of use this summer.
Welcome back Jonas! L’Eau d L’Artisan is one of my favorites for summer. I’m guessing you’ll get more use out of it than the nail file. 🙂
Thanks and yes, I just can’t be bothered to file my nails. I’ll definitely get more use out of the LdL.
Hello Everyone! It’s just been one of those weeks that was so busy at work I had no time to sneak away and visit. Finally, today, I am happy to be back. I put on some of the original formula of Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere. I just love the stuff and I think I’ve made up my mind to finally commit to a back up bottle.
Three unusual fragrance things happened to me this week. 1. Every once in a while I get kind of hypnotized by the designer’s impostor display at the local drug store – the only frag counter around – and I ended up with the “little sexy” version of Red by Giorgio Beverly Hills. I forgot my sister used to wear Red, or how good and cinnamony it is! All these oldie orientals were the original gourmands before things went all cupcake. I see all the references to Theorema above, and she’s right there too. 2. A woman came to our library bake sale and smelled sooo good. I asked her what she was wearing, and she said Crush by Liz Claiborne. I had no idea. Anyone? 3. One of my library board officers wants to unload some vintage No 19 edt, so I am totally excited about that! It’s a donation to the library so I’m trying to figure out how much I should give her that’s fair.
At first I was going to say I had a bottle of that! but then I remembered it was Curve. No recollection of Crush.
I remember one of the LC’s from about 15 years ago that was ok, but I can’t remember what it’s called. I’ve never followed that line.
You could use ebay as a way to measure a fair price, and comparing the buy it now prices or final auction price (using the watch function, maybe).
Not a perfect system, but that might be the place i would start 🙂
And congrats on the find! Go libraries!
Yes, that’s what I was thinking. She has some others (nothing as good as the No 19) and I need to do some homework for her. It will be fun.
I know those weeks! Eau Première deserves a back up bottle.
It’s strawberries and cream day? Didn’t know that when I decided to stop off at Culver’s (Midwest burgers, chicken and sandwich kind of place) for a Reuben sandwich and got a small dish of their flavor of the day frozen custard – double strawberry.
Wearing L’Artisan Ananas Fizz.
It was a Cuir de Russie day today and I’m looking forward to wearing Theorema tomorrow.
