Wednesday scent of the day 5/13

Posted by Robin on 13 May 2015 141 Comments

Firenze Baptistery Revisited

It's hump day! And we have one update: the haiku challenge is coming up this weekend, and since we had some interest in limericks yesterday, we'll expand the haiku challenge to include limericks. If anyone insists on writing a sonnet, trust me, we'll read that too.

Meanwhile, what fragrance are you wearing today?

I'm wearing i Profumi di Firenze Magnolia Dolce.

Reminder: this Friday, 15 May, will be Fake Flanker Friday — wear a perfume that doesn't have a flanker but should, and tell us what the flanker should be called and what it should smell like.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    What about an Ode?

I’m wearing L’Impacte de Pour un Homme by Caron, which is one of my favourite lavenders and since it seems to have quite a lot of vanilla it fits in well with my week.

I believe that B from the now defunct “The Fragrant Man” used to write “fragrant poems” and “Perfume and Tea Pairings” on Australian Perfume Junkies.

How does L’Impacte compare to the regular Caron Pour Un Homme?

More plush, less projection. ( It’s an extrait de parfum). To be honest I think probably that PuH is the “better” perfume. It seems to be slightly more balanced. I love both, but I think that in a way this version is the most comforting.

Freschiiissimo again today since aside from the random purse samples it’s the only perfume that isn’t in a box. My move got pushed tomorrow so I got sleep instead of finishing packing

Hope you still had a bed to sleep on! Seriously, though, best of luck for the rest of the, ahem, “adventure.”

On our first cross-country move, the moving van had a breakdown on the way and was delayed almost a week. We spent the first few nights in sleeping bags on the wooden floor of our new apartment, with DH’s traumatized cats walking on our heads. In November. Welcome home!

After yesterday’s review of L’Occitane’s iris perfume, I realized I only have 2 iris scents (Iris Nobile and Infusion d’Iris), despite that fact that I always think of iris as one of my favorite notes. And they’re so different! So I have one on each arm to compare and contrast.

SOTD is Dune edt from a kind swapper!

So hot down here I can hardly stand it. Florida is not the place to be in the midst of global warming. I am trying to figure out how I can work from inside my fridge, and I’m sure being perimenopausal doesn’t help.

I may be sweating but I smell GOOD! 🙂

Cooler weather today. I doused myself with Indochine (7 sprays). I wanted creamy woody salty today.

Hubby took the day off so we could spend time together since I work weekends now, and he woke up with a debilitating headache. Not sure if I should do the unsaintly thing and just go get on with my day or hang out with him in his misery. Neither of those choices are very appealing.

When my SO isn’t feeling well, he prefers to be alone. (I think he dislikes feeling like a burden or a hindrance on top of already feeling unwell.) It depends on a person, but I think it’s safe to go about your day and check in on him occasionally.

I’m with everyone else. My husband gets migraines and they do seem to happen at the most inopportune time. Do your thing – he will feel worse if he knows he kept you from having a good time, especially if there isn’t anything you can do to make it better (like a cold where you can at least make some soup!). Everyone is different, but my husband would rather be alone, laying down in a dark and quiet room when he has his migraines.

I love Indochine..you smell great! Husband also gets bad headaches. I get on with other things as he prefers not to be around others much when suffering, totally understandable! I do offer stuff to drink, ice packs, etc. But after those, he usually wants to not be bothered much. He really likes the wet washcloth with ice in it…and the chocolate chip frappe from Mc’ds lol.

Oh my gosh, what a wealth of great advice. Sounds like the consensus was to leave him alone and bring goodies from time to time. That choco chip frappe sounds good! I didn’t check back on your comments before I made him take some pain drugs so we could go over to Cambridge and hang out in the bookstores. He seemed to improve and perk up and we had a nice lunch too. Now he is resting in his man recliner. All is well in Sajini-land!

SOTD is SL Nuit de Cellophane. I wore it on Mother’s Day over JM Nectarine Blossom and Honey bath oil and it was lovely, so I wanted to try it by itself again. (It has been awhile.) I’m happy to report that the pregnancy nose I’ve held onto has finally calmed. I still have a heightened sense of smell and taste, but not to a point of being nauseous anymore. It’s kind of nice now. The NdC is much more beautiful to me than when I bought it. I’m excited to go through my entire collection and see what I’ve been missing!

It is so kind and considerate of you to do so. Baby Jack will be nine months on Friday….so that was 18 months of either not being able to wear anything or having to wear something very light. But I realize I was much more sensitive than most pregnant ladies. During the first and third trimesters, when my nausea was the worst, I would apply Aveda Blue Oil under my nose if I had to be in public. It’s peppermint scent blocked out smells of food, coffee, flowers, perfume, etc. Plus it was very calming.

I’m in Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom. Very lemony, not blossomy. It is supposed to have green notes and sea notes that I’m not getting. It might layer well with something sweeter, like Gardenia Passion. I may also try it with Origins Gingeressence.

Can anyone recommend a leather scent for summer. I have absolutely no leather in my scent wardrobe and I was going to try some samples through STC. I know everyone seems to love Cuir de Lancome, Is there a leather that would work during hot, humid, East Texas summer?

I own Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom. It’s funny, but the driftwood/sea note is very persistent on me (and that is why I don’t wear it. I love visiting the ocean, but I don’t like wearing perfume that smells like the beach/ocean).

From what I read, Cuir d’Ange fits the bill.

Bottega Veneta is also nice, and expensive.

Clair de Musc. Weird space, but I’m not sure if I’m mostly indifferent to it, or if I love it. Perhaps I love that it’s gentle background noise. Either way, I’m enjoying wearing it. I could see this being a really reliable and versatile staple.

Wearing Jour d’Hermes Absolu from a Sephora siphoned sample… I am really enjoying it. For anyone who did not “get” Jour d’Hermes (me for one!) you may still want to give the Absolu a whirl… there is a slight fruit salad component, but in a totally great way.

It’s still cold here but after a 5-day absence the sun is shining brightly and the blossoms of the native wild geranium are nodding their thanks. I’m keeping warm with Dame’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla – nicely balanced, it has a rich depth with just enough spice to offset the sweetness of the vanilla – and potting up some shivering annuals while watching for additional avian travellers.

I am with you today Laila in Mexican Vanilla and am very much enjoying it. I am quite satisfied with Mr. Dame’s work (at least the three that I have sampled thus far).

I really like all 3 of the artist collection edp’s, have ordered the Dark Horse already and put it away for the fall. I like the Cassis Rose and Sandalwood edt as well and still have a few samples I’ve not yet tested. The scents are rich yet not overwhelming, long-lasting, and the price point is affordable; the personal touch is appreciated as is the generosity of samples and speedy, free shipping. I also like the intergenerational/family nature of the perfumery; as an admirer of much of the native American culture I find his father’s artistry a nice contribution to the whole package.. All in all, I’d say a quality endeavor that I feel good about supporting!

I actually bought my mother the Passionfruit, Orange Blossom and Vetiver for Mother’s day and she loves it! I agree that there is so much admirable about this company that I feel good in supporting it. I will probably purchase HerbMan for my father for father;s day.

Same here! Cool day, Mexican Vanilla. It was a blind grab from my sample box. I’m not a food/vanilla fan, but for today I enjoy being one of the triplets. We smell luscious.

Yes, we do. I don’t think this scent is too foody, I think it strikes a nice balance between sweet/spicy and gourmand/woody creaminess!

You inspired me to go put some BFMV on over the lingering Indochine from earlier today.

That brings up a question for me. Sometimes I want to wear something different in the evening and I’m a bit afraid it will clash with what I already have on if still in the dry down. Does anyone have a solution for this? I guess showering is the obvious answer, but I don’t always have time for that.

It all depends on the strength of the daytime fragrance I’ve worn. Usually I just add another scent in the same fragrance family but perhaps deeper, richer or with an added fragrance note.

Wearing Alien Eau Extraordinaire again today, since yesterday was quite successful. Going to wear this sample until it runs out and decide whether i want (obviously I do not need) it for spring/summer.

A wardrobe workhouse for me in the fall/winter is Burberry Body. This could be a spring/summer workhorse. Only time will tell!

Decided to try a sample today, Lolita Lempicka L’Eau Jolie. Never even heard of this one, but got it with a batch of samples from a generous perfumista. Card says it’s a fruity floral with peach and blackcurrant. Pretty artificial smelling, getting a lot of peach. Fits the cute pink bottle, but nothing I want more of.

    SOTD = Dior Addict

I’m late to the Addict bandwagon but it is soooo good. Mine is fairly new so I can just imagine how the original was (from 2002) which was what I smelled on an officemate and just had to have.

I’m wearing Histoires de Parfums 1826 (Eugenie de Montijo). I had forgotten how much I like this one, or maybe it’s just really working for me today. I got the travel spray on clearance some time back from Urban Outfitters’ website, so I’d say it was a good use of $5.

Twins!, thanks to the generous Merlin here! I have worn Mitzah almost as many days as I’ve had my decant, which is a first for me! It’s glorious and elegant and has presence yet is sheer at the same time. Also has different facets on different days. I get mainly cinnamon and incensey rose

Just wanted to say that my peach-colored bearded irises are in full bloom now, which makes me ridiculously happy… I swear they even smell faintly peachy!
SOTD was Le Labo Rose 31, which does not make me ridiculously happy. I had wanted to try it for so long – I was certain I’d be a rabid fan… Well, I got a decant last week, and while it’s certainly a nice fragrance, it’s not the ne plus ultra that I was expecting.
    On to the next sample!
