Happy Limerick Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm testing Eau de Cartier Vétiver Bleu.
Reminder: this Friday, 15 May, will be Fake Flanker Friday — wear a perfume that doesn't have a flanker but should, and tell us what the flanker should be called and what it should smell like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’ve got a limerick for the management of our building that includes some rather non-work-safe words along with: FIX OUR AC! It’s hot and humid again today and the office is stifling. Wearing a light fragrance again. Thought I’d try Tory Burch since I’ve got a sample. It’s basically a lighter version of Clinique Happy. I’d rather we be wearing Happy.
Ugh, sorry!
Freschiiissimo again since I’m still packing. I have almost all my perfumes packed and a good chunk of my books but my brain refuses to believe that I’m making good progress and that everything will be ready to go tomorrow morning…..I can’t wait to be in Boston UNpacking
Good luck with the move – you WILL eventually be all settled in to your new home and it will all seem worth it.
Very good luck to you! It’s always hard to believe it will ever get finished.
Good luck!
Best of luck! And enjoy being back in Boston!
I’m testing NV Bombay Bling for the 1st time – I like it but its a little sweet.
Robin, how do you like the Vetiver Bleu? I love Declaration but am not familiar with many other Cartier perfumes.
I like it so far (this is my first try) but it’s not my favorite of the Eau de Cartier series. Eau de Cartier is a decent basic cologne, not exciting but decent. Some of the flankers have been fun (Zeste) and some have just been good (one of the wood ones, can’t remember the name right now).
Thanks, I remember reading your review of Zeste and it does sound fun.
I will wear this one some more, but so far, it isn’t as much fun. More masculine, though, and although they present them all as unisex they almost seem to alternate…
Untitled (Maison Martin Margiela).
I seem to be going for vanilla this week. Today is dedicated to MPG’s Fleur des Comores. It’s a lovely and slightly understated vanilla.
Today for the lush, warm air, I’m wearing Cartier So Pretty.
Tuesday and it’s drizzling out.
SOTD: Rain & Angelica from Jo Malone to match the weather.
SOTD is Encre Noire. Mmmmmmmmm
You smell wonderful!
Joining a few of you in testing – for me it’s Flowerbomb. I’m surprised by how much I like it! On me it’ s warm and comfy, with hints of pipe tobacco and tea among the flowers – quite nice for a chilly, rainy day.
Oh, that sounds good! I’m going to keep that in mind for next winter.
My choice for today honors flowers
Whose scent in the wild lasts for hours
In bottled form brief
like some rogue perfume thief
En Passant needs to work on its powers!
Oh, standing ovation!!!
Hoping this gets me off the hook for the haiku challenge 😉
No, it means we need you for the haiku challenge even more, LOL….
As a poet I would much rather write limericks than haiku!!
Please write us limericks then! We’re appreciative. But guessing if I did a limerick weekend poll it would get a few answers and no more.
Me, too, Elisa!
Well played, my lady, well played…..
Absolutely!
Love it!!!
Applause!
Applause, applause!
BRAVA!!!
*tosses bouquet at your feet*
Love it!
Most excellent!!!
Clapping wildly and waving my hat in the air!!
Three cheers for farouche!!
Joining in the praise!
I’m wearing En Passant, too. A truer limerick has never been spoken! Well done!
Robin, you can throw us a limerick challenge!
I salute you, Farouche!
Encore, encore!
Wearing Vetiver Tonka. It matches the cool weather we’re having, but I’d rather have something to cheer me up like Carnal Flower, but I’m afraid the sillage is a bit too much for work.
I gave L’Artisan Havana Vanille ONE MORE CHANCE and it’s just no good. It should have been perfect for me (rum, tobacco, vanilla) but I don’t know why I don’t like it: maybe it’s too sweet, maybe it’s that strange chemical dryer-sheet note near the top, but I have worn it at least half a dozen times and it’s just not for me. At least my decant is empty so I can stop torturing myself.
I didn’t like it either. It wasn’t bad, just didn’t sit right.
I know what you mean about that weird chemical note near the top (I thought of it more as plastic than dryer sheet), but perversely I’ve sort of grown to like it.
I felt the same way about Havana Vanille, I tried it several times and it doesn’t work for me
I’m chiming in to agree with your assessment of Havana Vanille. I blind bought it, because it sounded absolutely perfect. Tried it about three times, and just couldn’t get over the weird way it smelled on my skin, and eventually swapped it away.
Ditto!
It took me while, but I kept going back to my sample and I adore it now. But when it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t 🙂
I didn’t like Havana Vanille either. Like you, I thought the notes should work for me, but I just got a weird plasticky note that I found unpleasant to wear.
I think HV is seriously mis-described. It is sort of milky, which gave me pause at first, but I grew to enjoy it as a softer, summer version of Frapin 1697. HV is one of the perfumes I like to wear in late August/early September, when the weather is still warm but drier.
Since we’re supposed to hit 90 degrees F today, I thought I’d test out Tobacco Cognac to see if I can get away with wearing it in the summer (without causing bodily harm to myself or others). I’ve been wearing it a ton recently, so I treated myself to a full bottle. Very exciting to find such an affordable love.
At least today was less humid than yesterday. Weather like this would be great in July. 😉
I’m wearing Eau de Givenchy.
I’m wearing Ananas Fizz. What a weird idea for a perfume!
Love that one! I feel like a walking umbrella drink when I wear it.
Yes, eau de pina colada for sure.
Got a small decant of this one recently with very low expectations… I loath AA Pamplelune on me…but no comparison. Fizz could be named “Happy Happy” and it would suit the fragrance perfectly. I think I may go apply it once my current pretty fragrance fades (Jour d’Hermes Absolu)…
It faded on me very quickly but was fun while it lasted.
There are some perfumes that area great to spray on in the morning when you want to enjoy scent while getting dressed but need it to be gone by the time you get to work, etc. 😉
L’ete en Douce. The hay in it called to me today.
I’m testing Dahlia & Vines by Nest. I blind bought a set of minis before the line came to Sephora Canada and now I’m wondering if I’ll like anything from the line. Maaan, do I have some regrets about the initial days of perfume addiction…and trying to fill up orders for free shipping 😉
Heh, I’ve been Ebay-ing away the past year’s worth of blind buys for the past coupla weeks. What a pain…. 🙂
Oh, I wish I had the patience for eBay but shipping prices in Canada are too ridiculous to be competitive. So, I’ve made the poor life decision to torture myself trying to use up vials and minis I don’t like while I’m home alone 😉
BUT, through this silliness, I am getting better at picking out notes I don’t like, like sweet pea. Not saying I’ll never find something with a sweet pea note that I love, but now I know that is not a good blind buy risk 🙂
I’ve actually done better with full bottle blind buys but I’m sure as time goes on, I will feel more compelled to get rid of mere ‘likes’ so I will have to sort out a plan!
IMHO, life is too short to torture yourself with something you don’t like. When do you wear the ones you like / love?
Don’t worry, I wear them out or when I’m just in the mood at home! The sample pile is for evenings I’m not doing anything and my day scent has faded, or like today when I was having a late shower before heading out 🙂 It gives me a few hours to really test out the scents and I just go heavy-handed to use up the samples and minis!
Those bottles are so pretty – I keep trying them because I want to buy one so it’s understandable!
SOTD Chanel Box of Eels.
Anyone have any strong (or not so strong) feelings about Guerlain Vetiver? I saw it discounted online but have never tried or sampled it. I’m thinking it might be good for hot, sticky weather.
Happy Tuesday all 🙂
Not sure if it’s a joke I missed or what but I am hoping Box of Eels is one of the best autocorrect mishaps ever!
Ha! No, it’s Bois de Iles. I think it was Pixel’s husband who coined it and now it’s taken on a life of its own 🙂
haha gotcha! I guessed it was Bois de Iles but it totally seemed like something my phone would do 😉
Hilarious! Made me laugh out loud – Box of Eels!
I adore Guerlain Vetiver. When I first became addicted I blind bought a number of classic men’s perfumes for my husband and sons because the online prices were just amazing (Vetiver; Declaration; Caron’s Pour Un Homme, Yatagan and 3rd Man). My “boys” don’t wear them much, but luckily I love them all (except maybe the Yatagan which is a bit too “masculine” for me, whatever that means (but my husband likes it)). The Vetiver in particular is great in the heat and humidity (I live in VA).
Oh, and Habit Rouge is also great!
I’m another fan of Guerlain Vetiver, love it in the summer. I found it inexpensively at T J Maxx or some such place. It was a blind buy I didn’t regret.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Guerlain Vetiver. And that’s saying something, since I don’t like much from this house. But the vetiver is stunning. Just gorgeous.
It is one of the great vetivers and terrific in hot weather. It feels exceptionally cool and has enough spine to stand up to AC, too.
I don’t care for Guerlain Vetiver. It smells to me like one aromachemical won’t play well with the others. Big Guerlain fan, just not that one.
I’m wearing Amouage Beloved. This was one I didn’t quite get at first but it’s growing on me each time I wear it… unfortunately!
My SOTD is Rochas Femme. Quiet day at home trying to get some stuff done, and this seemed to fit the day.
It’s drizzly and cold here today so I wanted something fresh but warm–Voyage d’Hermes fit the bill. Citrus and spice, it cheered me up on this gray day immediately.
Went with vintage – Apres l’Ondee on this rainy spring day in Michigan. I love it, but it is a little too soothing for all the unfortunate excitement we are having at work. Tomorrow I will wear something with an edge to it…no, tomorrow I will wear Copal Azur….
Alien Eau Extraordinaire, really digging its sweet- but-not-sugary citrus tea notes. I don’t get much of the grape jelly i usually get from Alien. Contemplating a small bottle of this one. Hmmm.
Actually, reminds me of J Lo Still, which i love for its sweet tea too.
Loving me some springtime!
I liked that one and didn’t like Alien at all. It’s nice!
It was a nice surprise 🙂
Loving this dry down. Amber, i think, and soft sweetness. Yum.
After four days of chilly temps and storms, the rains have left but it’s downright cold today and very cloudy. Windows closed, I can’t smell the LOTV in bloom nor hear the morning songs of the White-throated and White-crowned sparrows that have finally arrived, although I did see a pair of American Redstarts that have joined the numerous warblers flitting in our shrubs. An ‘inside’ day, the warmth of Dior Dune – and its ability to evoke memories of the rocky, windswept Atlantic seacoast – beckons. So I’ve donned my Historic Annapolis Foundation shirt and can almost taste the crab at Cantler’s Riverside Inn or lobster at Mama D’s Lobster & Grill up in Maine. I’m also remembering a delightful gated campground in beautiful Cape May, where each campsite had its own pair of charming catbirds, surely by chance, but seemingly by Nature’s Design. And it’s not so bad to be inside after all . . .
Nice birds!
What a beautiful paragraph to read. Sigh. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to spend a day birding.
I will be improving the airplane cabin air with some Lumiere Blanche.
Go girl!
Great scent. I can see it being good for traveling
Deadlines today meant that I needed something to keep me calm – so my SOTD is Lutens Santal Majescule, which seems to have the desired effect on me, though I can’t quite explain why.
Wearing Bendelirious, a bouncing ponytail of a fragrance.
Ha what a delightful description!! Now I want to try it–am curious, would you say Miss Charming fits in the same category?
I haven’t sniffed Miss Charming yet, but if I go just by the name I’d say yes!
LOVE that description.
Windy and cool here today, wearing Opus IV – citrus and incense with a bit of smoke and spice, love it.
I am wearing Madonna Truth or Dare. I love this so much I have two backup bottles.
Atelier Cologne’s Orange Sanguine today. Or rather, that’s what I wore this morning. I put on sunblock at lunch time, and now I smell like sunblock. Tonight going home I might spritz on something else.
Am wearing the tiniest drops of JOY parfum. Today is grey and rainy- back to more of our typical Spring weather- and I needed something rich, floral and powerful.
SOTD = Amouage Sunshine
I love its cheery top notes and the drydown is fabulous. I know there are lovers and haters of this but eh, to each his own which is what makes life interesting !
Wearing Lostmarch Lann-Ael. I love that bready cereal opening – if it lasted longer, I’d have a bottle instead of a decant!
Did some mainstream sniffing yesterday at Macy’s. I was hoping to try the Bulgari teas again since the tea Friday made me want to revisit them, but they didn’t have them, just the other Bulgaris. I also tried Origins Ginger perfume and it is lovely! Totaly linear, but after wearing it for a while, I bought some online! I never hear it mentioned here.
Their ginger dry oil spray is nice but the scent is quite fleeting. I don’t mind since I usually add a perfume on top. I should try the actual fragrance as I have heard good things about it.
It seems there are a few versions of things – the oil, the regular perfume, and an intense version. It seems the intense was discontinued recently.
I own and like Origins Ginger Essence. I’d better dig out my bottle. Thanks for the reminder! I don’t care if perfume is linear.
That post inspired me to revisit the Bulgari teas at Sephora. I liked them more than I remembered, so I blind-bought a bottle of Bulgari The Rouge on Fragrancenet for pretty cheap. My package should arrive Friday.
You must have gotten the last bottle! Just checked to see how much it was and it is out of stock! And my Sephora doesn’t have the Bulgari teas either. Need to go by Bloomingdales or something!
Wearing Jo Malone sage and sea salt today. I wanted a light pick me up for housework on a sticky hot day. It’s pretty much gone by now, just in time for me to go see clients!
On another note, I just received a huge perfume care package that a kind and caring nst-er obviously took a lot of time to put together for my relative who just lost her man a few weeks ago and wants to start exploring perfume now (she didn’t wear it before because he didn’t like it). I just phoned her up to let her know it’s here and she is totally excited about it. Again many many thanks for this incredibly generous gesture. Doing something kind for someone you don’t even know, now that’s something!
Wonderful!
Wearing the last drops of a sample of Après l’Ondée. I hope I have another one somewhere…
I started the day with Sunshine by Smell Bent. It smelled like orange drink powder and very artificial sandalwood (yeah, I know that the real stuff is expensive) to me, so I scrubbed it if off of my hand and went with some vanilla oil from the health food store.
I wrote this haiku during my break this morning:
Robins burst forth from
The blooming magnolias
Traffic sounds recede
Gotta practice for the upcoming Haiku Challenge! 🙂
I like Smell Bent and citrus scents, but that one doesn’t agree with me either – more dried rind than juice, I think and a bit artificial.
I like several Smell Bent frags. I want to try Florist’s Fridge next.
I love citrus in perfume. I need to buy some perfumer’s alcohol and make my own with citrus oils 🙂
Love your haiku, haven’t written one since HS. I’m haiku-challenged, an inability to speak in such brief language. 🙂
SOTD is Bas de Soie. Weather is appropriately springlike (after several weeks of virtual summer), and I’m just in the mood for it.
It’s kind of rainy and gray today, and I went with L de Lolita Lempicka. I hadn’t worn it in a while, and it’s pretty yummy.
There once was a great NSTer
As meredifay we all knew ‘er
I wanted her Jour
empty bottle, the lure,
And she gave it. World’s best perfumista!
(For some folks this rhymes.)
Thank you meredifay!
I’m trying the Vers La Violette she also generously sent, among others, and I agree most of all with EauMG’s review, except that I somehow skipped the skanky part. Must try again!
Well done!
🙂
Today seemed like a Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial kind of day. I love this perfume and like to think of it as a kinder, gentler Shalimar…..
I was fortunate
Not to smell la vie est belle
My nose salutes me
Hee hee!
Cuir Beluga… I seem to be having a Guerlain week, yesterday was Bois d’Armenie.
