Happy May Day! And happy Tea Time Friday. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a tea note.
As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you're not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Masque Milano Russian Tea. And my tea at the moment: Upton Saint Isaac's Blend (a Russian-style variation on Earl Grey).
Reminder: next Friday, 8 May, will be Bottle Porn Friday: wear something you bought in part or in full because of the bottle, or a fragrance you think has a beautiful (or otherwise perfect) bottle.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD: Au The Rouge (Bulgari)
Perfect!
Me too! It is interesting to me that I used to prefer the other two, Au the Vert and Au the Blanche and now I think the Rouge is far more interesting and a little more dirty. However, once the Burma like weather settles in here in Virginia I would probably reach for Vert or Blanche.
I’ve never really tried The Vert on skin, but I think The Blanc is my favorite out of the series so far. Looking forward to trying The Bleu when it arrives. 🙂
There’s a The Bleu?
Au The Rouge is a great scent!
The Rouge is really refreshing and does smell exactly like tea! I have this on my to buy list…..
Scent twins!
Au The Vert (Bulgari) for me. I think this is the only fragrance I have with a tea note. I love it. And it’s quite nice on this slightly cool spring day. Feels like the spices are warming me up.
I love it too. Hope it has not been reformulated.
The bottle and packaging change has me concerned too!
I haven’t smelled a new bottle recently anyway, so for all I know it’s already different. Would be surprised if it wasn’t cleaner than it used to be.
Muskier? Nooooooooo
Happy May Day
I had two cups of MF Paris breakfast this morning. Baby was up at 430am- thank goodness for tea and for having the day off today.
In Journey Woman today- which is a tea fragrance for me
4:30! I hope you get a nap later.
By Kilian, Imperial tea
Oooh, jasmine tea! This sounds great to me. Does it last a while on you?
Half twins 🙂
I’m in Imperial Tea today, too! There’s just nothing else out there (that I’ve found) to come so close to my favorite smell in the world, jasmine tea. The opening is just so well done. I’m not as in love with the dry-down, and certainly not the lasting power or price, but for that opening I’d consider a FB. Someday.
I’m wearing Journey Woman. I also have some lilacs around that I picked from a friend’s backyard last night — but someone on Twitter told me it’s bad luck to bring lilacs in the house!
I’d never heard that about lilacs!
I really want to plant lilac bushes in the yard as I love them so, but the garden center only has one kind, and not my favorite bloom color. Has anybody ever had real success with rooting them?
I hadn’t either…
And have never rooted them, but all of mine came mail order (I got much better varieties that way) as little twigs and have done great.
I did plant a mail-order bare-root bush once but it did not make it. I’ve been leery of trying again, but it’s possible that my first attempt wasn’t of good stock. Need to try again from a reputable plant company.
I wish I could remember who we ordered from…when we moved in this house, we ordered tons of stuff (trees too) from the same company and they were great. Maybe it will come to me later.
Have heard good things about Bluestone Perennials, plus they have a 50% off sale in Feb–believe you can order & request a spring delivery.
Going to mark my calendar!
Mals, go to an old bush and ask to take suckers from it. Just dig up a big root ball and it should do fine. (I always dig the hole and pour some water in to soak in while I’m digging up the sucker, so the plant hardly knows it’s been moved) If you can do it when it’s overcast, so much the better
If the mother lilac is large enough, you should be able to get plenty of offspring.
Oh and Fall is generally the best time, but Spring should be okay if y’all aren’t blazing hot yet. And of course, keep them watered regularly through their first Summer.
Snort! “Blazing hot”… it’ll get to 50F out today if we’re lucky. (Supposed to be 70 tomorrow.)
We have a neighbor who’s offered me cuttings, but she said “cuttings,” and said that all I’d have to do is cut a branch and stick it in the ground, which I have been doubtful that it would work. I’ll have to double-check that it’s still okay for me to take root-ball suckers near the main trunk. (AND get her to lock her terrifying dog in the outbuilding while I do it. ) Her lilac is probably 15 feet high and half that around, it will probably survive just fine..
The older varieties do root pretty well from cuttings, heck, you can just bend a stem down to the ground and cover it with enough dirt to hold it and it’ll root…but digging some up would be quickest.
Minus the mean dog, of course!
I’ve ordered from Miller Nurseries and they’ve done well: Charles Jolie and Belle de Nancy (duh).
Miller was bought by Stark, I think.
I haven’t rooted any, but google “propagating lilac” and I’m sure there will be info. I’m guessing softwood is the way to go. There’s also a book “Secrets of Plant Propagation” that is really gets but might be TMI…
I’ve had good luck with Stark fruit trees, but I really did not want to try another bare-root bush. SIGH.
Oh that is good to know! I enjoy sniffing my lilacs straight from the bush but need to be careful of the bees!
Journey Woman is a favorite of mine. You smell great!
I also didn’t know the taboo about lilacs and have brought them indoors.
SOTD= Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli from a sample. Light, sweet, not much patch, not much anything really. Innocuous but meh to me, unlike some other things from this line that I like a lot. This appears to be the only scent I have with a tea note. I am looking forward to seeing what people wear and love! HAPPY Friday!
I am with you today on the Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli and agree that the patchouli is nuanced and light (I am used to patch bombs!). It dries down to a nice skin scent for me and I could see this as a unisex fragrance. I think I might actually buy a full bottle of this one as a Father’s Day present. My favourite from the line is the Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood which is so luscious and exactly what I imagine Lush’s Rose Jam would smell like (it has been compared to that). I might purchase that as a Mother’s Day present and maybe in autumn a full bottle for me.
Of the line, that’s the one I’m most interested in trying. I’m a sucker for mate.
It is the only fragrance I know of with mate in it as a note. I love mate tea especially with a chocolate flavouring!
Yerba mate (the plant the drink is made from, per Wikipedia) is one of the notes in Diptyque’s Essences Insensées (EI). It has been many years since I’ve had mate, so I can’t tell you if it is prominent in EI.
Thanks, kindcrow! During my next visit to a Diptique boutique I will have to sample Essences Insensees.
Thanks for the tip!
I liked the Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli a lot. It was nice and light and summery, and a good alternative to all the citrus-heavy colognes, nice as they often are. I was going to wear it today, but my sample had evaporated.
Has anyone tried the Orange Blossom, Passion Fruit and Vetiver? It was the one I was most excited about, but unfortunately I couldn’t smell it at all. Stupid nose.
I’m wearing the reissued Tea for Two this morning, from a sample. I don’t think I own any bottles of tea scents. I, too, am looking forward to seeing what other people wear.
What do you think of it?
I had a romantic idea that I would love it (because cult classic status) and was surprised at how not for me it was.
The expectations vs. Reality check of Fragrance research and sampling has been a good character builder for me. I swoon at most fragrance descriptions, and now with more experience i have fewer blind buys. (Ultimate test of patience! )
I’ve only tried the earlier release, and I think it’s a wonderful idea but just too warm and sweet for me to love or wear more than occasionally. But mostly I want to respond to those descriptions that make you swoon. They work on me too, and I wish there were a better balance in perfumeland, with a greater presence of substantive negative critiques.
Gosh, saw this really late! T42 was fine. I liked the spice note, but I guess I am just not a fan of tea in fragrance., and I am especially not a fan of L’Artisan because on me they don’t last more than two hours. I used to blind-buy what other people raved about also, but made too many mistakes, so now I sample–better $4 spent than $150.
I planned to wear Masque Milano Russian Tea, as I discovered it lately and enjoy it a lot. But it’s a sunny spring day, so I didn’t feel like wearing it in the morning. I ended up with L’Occitane Green Tea and Jasmine on my left hand and By Kilian Imperial Tea on my right. I like them both, but need L’Occitane more: green tea fragrances are something I want to spray liberally (and in summer, I often take Green Tea and Jasmine Showers). Such a shame it’s discountinued.
Wearing Bvlgari Au The’ Rouge, from a largeish sample. I like this one.
But it’s May Day and I’m missing my muguet, so this afternoon I may put on some Carillon pour un Ange.
That’s the nice thing about putting on a light fragrance -you can always do something else later!
Yeah, I got bored with The’ Rouge already. CpuA on me now and I’m loads happier.
I tried that one so long ago, I don’t even remember what it smells like. I’ve seen it at Marshall’s before – I know I shouldn’t buy unsniffed….
Duel, inspired by a recent NST comment. I happened upon a sample at just the right moment.
Duel has great tea accords. Very zesty!
Bulgari Au The Rouge for me. I like it, might even spring for a bottle after I use up my decant.
I have all three Bvlgari and probably reach for Rouge the most. I think it’s underrated, though it looks like it’s getting some love today!
Vert is my favourite and I can’t wear Blanc, but Rouge is really growing on me.
My tea scent today is House of Cherry Bomb Violet Green Tea Honeysuckle. This is really far outside of my normal style, so it should be interesting experiment.
This sounds nice. Let us know how it goes!
Ohhh, I would love to know how it is too! That sounds lovely.
That sounds amazing! What do you think of it?
That sounds really nice. I rather liked the Eliz. ARden Green Tea Honeysuckle I smelled a few years ago, but additional violet seems like a genius idea.
I totally forgot I had Tea for two, that is the only tea scent I have.
I am wearing Fidji vintage. I think I am obsessed with the vintages right now.
If you are going to be obsessed with vintage, Fidji is a pretty good one to be obsessed with. I don’t know what it smells like now but the seventies vintage that I have is incredible.
My mom wore Fidji in the 70’s. I loved it on her! You smell beyond amazing today.
Awesome perfume!You smell positively spectacular!!
Realize I’ve dispensed with 2 tea scents I used to have, Herba Fresca and a Susanne Lang. Yoga this morning, so I’ll remain scentless till later. Robin, meant to ask how you like Upton’s Richmond Park Blend? Every time I’ve looked at their site, I get overwhelmed! Ready to give them a shot, since Kusmi’s sold out of the large Russian Morning tins.
I like Richmond Park but am drinking that one from a sample and haven’t decided if I’ll buy. It’s very mild. Don’t forget they sell samples! You might also try the Original Russian Caravan, which has no smoke but is quite good.
A few I have bought after sampling recent: Ji Hong Supreme Organic Keemun, Jade Mao Feng (green), and I will buy either the Saint Isaacs or the The Melange Russe, I still need to try them together. And I drink tons of their Irish Breakfast (that’s my current wake up tea) and I use their Extra Bergamot Earl Grey as a mixer.
oh good, I’ll try the Irish Breakfast & Russian Caravan for starters!
The Irish Breakfast is just a cut tear curl Assam — I love it but it isn’t a “refined” tea if you know what I mean. Very malty and strong.
I do highly recommend the Ji Hong Supreme Organic Keemun for a reasonably affordable Keemun. It’s a great tea, and often my last cup of the day, around 4 or 5 pm. If you’re willing to spend more (even the sample is expensive) try the Hao Ya A Keemun.
And please report back on what you find! There are so many teas there that I’ll never try them all.
appreciate your suggestions, will report back!
SOTD: OJ Champaca. This is probably one of my favorite perfumes ever. Sipping a white tip jasmine tea to go with it. Mmmmm…
Happy May Day!
Love this scent too, especially in springtime. You smell great!
Nothing else like it.
I’m wearing the mother of all green tea fragrances Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert. I noticed that I’ve nearly drained my bottle. Brilliant fragrance that I’ve loved for nearly 15 years. Perfect for spring, summer, on headachy days etc.
I’m drinking a very fancy Early Grey called Earl Grey Céleste Bio that I purchased in Brussels a while ago. It’s a Yunnan black with bergamot and corn flowers. It’s gorgeous.
Scent twins! And your Earl Grey sounds delicious.
It is, expensive but so worth it. Isn’t Thé Vert glorious?
Scent triplets 🙂
Wearing Five O’Clock at Gigembre. A very generous amount – I sweated I sprayed about 20 times! The peppy fizziness is fitting for my outfit and mood today 🙂 Work is … interesting right now. I decided to be minorly annoyed instead of stressed about it all and it really helped my mood.
I swear, not I sweated. I wish I sweated out fuzzy ginger and spice 😆
Lol!We do love silly old Auto-correct!!hehe
Gig, another great scent.
Me too! Mind, I could wear this one every day, it’s so lovely and versatile.
Jo Malone Earl Grey and Cucumber here. It has to be just the right day for this scent – too damp and it seems pushy – too dry and it shrieks. Today is that day, and it is a beautiful, fresh promise of the spring that has not yet sprung here.
Now that you mention it…this is probably why I never got it. Some of the days I tested it I enjoyed it more than others!
At work sipping Mighty Leaf Tea Company’s Orchid Oolong and wearing Jeffrey Dame’s Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli. This is a nice innocuous office fragrance and dries down to a skin scent on me. I do actually like it.
I have just sprayed lavishly with French lIme Blossom…they are melding nicely.
That does it! I’m going to have to spring for a decant of Mate. I love the idea of a skin scent based on mate tea.
Thanks!
I highly recommend you purchase the travel spray….it is so affordable and the shipping is free. If it doesn’t work for you you are only out eight dollars and fifty cents! and if you love it, a win win situation!
I disliked most of the Xerjoff JTC series, but I ‘m wearing their very good Ivory Route, a lot of spices, wood smoke, and black tea over vanilla amber. Overpriced and nothing ground-breaking (it reminds me of Yves Rocher Tel Quel, which was a tenth the price and is twenty years old) but it’s nice nonetheless.
I’d be very happy to be sitting next to you today! Sounds very nice.
Went with a friend to the Hermes boutique last night and was given a sample of Osmanthe Yunnan, among others. So, so pretty, but barely there thus far….
Have you tried Providence Perfume Osmanthus Oolong? A pretty and tenacious natural.
I may have to took into that, as I have the same complaint about the Hermes. Thanks for the tip!
I think I meant to try it the last time I was at Twisted Lily, but that place is chock full of goodies and I got distracted. Thanks for the suggestion – I will absolutely try this!
Twins! I’m 45 minutes in (after draining my sample) and it’s still very nice, but I know it’ll be gone by lunchtime so I’m taking CB I Hate Perfume Russian Caravan (another sample that is nearly drained) as a backup. We smell briefly great!
I did not plan ahead like you. 🙂 You smell lovely!
It is very subtle – I think I get used to the scent besides it being fleeting. Last time I wore it was one evening after a shower, and I doused myself. I rewore the shirt again a week later, and it smelled fabulous. So maybe try spraying your clothes to get it to last longer??
I may give that a try. I tend to do this with a lot of my perfumes as I have scent-eating skin. The sample Hermes gives you is sizeable, but it’s a dabber and not a spray.
Our Hermes boutique was pretty generous with samples and so I would get 2 and put them in a 10 ml glass atomizer as I hate dabber samples. Will have to go pick up a few more to refresh my Rose Ikebana “decant”!
Triplets! I made sure to spray some on my shirt this morning, but it’s lasting pretty well on my wrists, too. I love this one. Such a happy scent!
When I get home, I should have a package from Upton Teas with a sample of osmanthus tea, plus a packet of a Nepalese tea: they’re donating a portion of sales from all their Nepalese teas to earthquake relief.
Quadruplets! I really love how this smells but it really is the most fleeting of all scents I’ve tried. 10 sprays this morning since I’m just around the house today and barely an hour later, it is all but gone.
Those of us with scent eating skin leave nothing left. But it’s pretty while it lasts.
How lovely! I am such a sucker for anything that supports a charity, and if the product is good, then all the better.
I’m number 6 in OY – love it and that Upton’s Osmanthus Tea.
Quintuplets. Happy, fresh and the freesia fits so nicely with the tea note. Just reapply and spray on fabric for all day pleasure.
Drinking a mug of Yunnan Gold with it.
All this tea talk – I need to try more tea!
I’ve been an Irish Breakfast/English Breakfast drinker most of my life, but you all make me want to branch out. Any suggestions of how to start?
I have found that there is a lot of overlap with my favorite perfume notes and tea flavors. For example, I love bergamont, rose, and spices (but not cinnamon when it’s noticable) in both tea AND perfume. One way you could approach tea is to get a sampler of different plain tea varieties (white, green, oolong, black) or focus on a flavored tea (earl grey is such a classic) and try different brands to find what suits you (subtle vs extra Bergamont). I think many China towns have tea shops where you can try the different varieties – I know they do in San francisco, which is a lot of fun!
Carefully, lest you development an obsession for tea that parallels the obsession for perfume!
Wise words!
Lots of places, like Harney & Sons and Upton Teas, do sampler sets. You might start with an Assam or Darjeeling sampler set and go from there.
I’m off to visit the botanical gardens this morning wafting Cartier’s lovely l’Huere Fougueuse. This is another they need to offer in a travel coffret.
I visit my own beloved Norfolk Botanical Garden frequently because I volunteer there. Have fun and sniff lots of stuff! I am sure you smell lovely.
Thanks. I’m looking forward to the nice hiking trails at ours and checking on the cactus exhibits I helped to plant when I lived close enough to participate in Cactus Society projects. I’m not sure they can beat the floral displays in my Mom’s garden this year but it will be nice to feel I don’t need to stop and pull weeds…although, I have been known to weed parking lot plantings and neighbor’s yards so who knows if I can resist.
Stinker-kit, is that Norfolk, va? I moved here last year for school and I would be quite excited to meet another fumie in the area.
Scent twins! I remember when this came out and everyone talked about the horse mane accord. It took me awhile to realize it was a tea scent!
Great choice – I love both Fougueuse and the related XIII.
SOTD so far is a spritz of Petite Cherie. Nice and light and easy to throw on as I rolled out of bed for work.
I haven’t managed tea yet today, either, only coffee, so I am really dropping the ball. But, since a girl can dream, I imagine myself at home in my jammies drinking some Kusmi Almond Green tea (which I am completely out of at the moment) wearing a generous spritz of L’Occitane’s Green Tea (so sad it’s gone, but I fortunately have a bottle squirreled away) and reading a good book on the porch. That is my dream community project for today!
I did not get a chance to post yesterday. My SOTD was L’Occitane The Vert. I love the shower gel too!
Wearing the now discontinued White Tea (The Blanche) from L’Occitane. I normally like wearing this one in summer because it’s so light. Went straight for the coffee this morning because I was up late seeing a late night screening of the new Avengers last night (it’s fantastic, btw), but I might have some jasmine tea later this afternoon as a pick-me-up because tonight I’m play Coach bingo (yes, Coach, the brand and we bingo for bags!).
Not sure I ever got to try the White Tea from them, but I do have about 25% of The Vert left from eons ago. Good luck on the Coach bingo!
I love this one, but like I said, it’s better suited to hot weather because of how airy and light it is. I also have their Jasmine Green Tea fragrance, which is also discontinued. Both are wonderful.
Thanks! A friend of mine has a coworker who sets these events up with the local Coach outlet. It’ll be my first time attending, so I’m really curious how it’ll work out. 🙂
Off topic but on topic with yours, a friend recently went to Drag Bingo. She said it was entertaining.
Wearing Frederic Malle Lys Mediterranee, drained the last bit of my 5ml mini!If I were to wear a tea fragrance it would probably have been the Bulgari The Rouge,or CdG 888.Happy weekend all!
Lys Med is so pretty.
Most tea scents don’t work for me, especially green ones. Tea for Two is the only one I love but it’s just too warm and sunny for it today.
…so I ignored the directive and went with Coty Muguet de Bois. I don’t think I’ve worn this since last year. I love May Day!
I’m also wearing Russian Tea. It seems a lot more minty today than I remember.
Russsian Tea is very minty on me. I love it!
Am sampling Eau due Fier which is a bit strong but I didn’t want to go as mild as Oolang Infini
Love Fier! It’s only the opening that is strong, it really calms down after that.
I’m in the Vert & Bigarade from L’Occitane. It’s just ok for me. I have a coffret of the 4 original Grasse collection scents and after sampling them all, would never spring for a FB. They’re more like a body splash to me; the $78 price tag seems high for what you get.
That’s what I thought, too. The Jasmin & Bergamote was pretty great, but was gone in about an hour. If it went on sale, I’d probably get it.
I have a few tea scents – Bvlgari Black, which I love until the vanilla takes over, Demeter’s Silvery Tip Pekoe, which is a little too masculine, but which might work well layered with something like honey or ginger, and Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, which I didn’t think of. However today I’m wearing Philosophy Tea Leaf for the first time. Very light, very fresh, not very interesting.
Is that a new one? it is challenging for me to keep up with all the new Philosophy releases.
Actually it is one of three scents in a series called the Tea Party, which came out in 2013. The scents are Pure Honey (which I have and like), Fresh Cream ( which I don’t have), and Tea Leaf. I would think that they would layer well together, and that they are intended to. The Tea Leaf and Pure Honey are my only Philosophy fragrances. I have been trying to acquire Fresh Cream from Ebay, but I’m not willing to pay a lot for it. Apparently it is the most popular of the three.
I may be wrong but I believe that Sephora sells the Fresh cream.
I was correct. Sephora online sells a large bottle for a reasonable price (38 dollars)
I just got a sample of Fresh Cream from Sephora. I may try it this weekend. I have a sample of the new Dior Feve Delicieuse which smells fantastic on paper and on other people’s skin and I may want to exclusively try it this weekend to see if it is FBW.
My Sephora (US) has the Fresh Cream. I think they just started carrying it as I never saw it there before. It is very sweet.
Going for Bvlgari Black today, haven’t yet worn it in the springtime, hoping to get a lot of tire 😉
Twins!
Nice!
Twins!
I am wearing L’Artisan Coure de Vetiver Sacre, which has a good tea note in it. And I am drinking Twinings green tea/ginger.
Oh, I love that one, too…
I have Bulgari’s green tea, Al Rehab green tea, Osmanthus Yunnan, Nicolai’s Fig Tea, Osmanthus Interdite, and probably some additional samples that have tea notes. Most of the bottles and decants, I love. (Bulgari goes a little sweet, so I have to be in the right mood.) In my distant perfumed past, I ran through a bottle of ElizabethW Sweet Tea.
So what am I wearing today?
Well, the wrong category. I forgot about Tea Friday, and have been obsessing over aromatic stuff + maybe salty. So, Wood Sage & Sea Salt on one arm, Knot on the other, and I will probably dab on some eau Soleil before I head out the door. Because I’m vaguely crazy that way, and tomorrow is my birthday, and my ‘baby’ graduates high school in 2 weeks, and I’m just having one of those ‘I don’t really care about the rules, I’m gonna do my thing’, relaxed days. I’m loving the aromatic stuff this week!
TeaIntheGarden,
To begin with, happy early Birthday!
Nothing like living in the moment and bending the rules! I happen to lenjoy Wood Sage & Sea Salt. I have had much success with the Jo Malone line. There really isn’t too much that I don’t like and even a few that I love.
Was planning to wear Guerlain’ new AA Teazzurra I recently received as a sample. I took a tentative spray late last night and did not care for it all all! I’ll give it another try when I have more time to sit with it. Wearing Bvlgari Omnia – it’s been a while and I forgot how delicious this is.
Happy finally Friday!
SOTD is CB I Hate Perfume Russian Caravan Tea. Initially I thought it had turned; it seemed more sour but it seems to be better 15 minutes later. I will likely switch to the Lavender Tea later on
Wearing Cuir de Lamcome. I do miss PG’s Eau Rare Matale, whose pallid reformulation broke my heart.
Bvlgari Black. I don’t get any tea out of this at all, but that’s ok because I get a lot of other wonderful stuff.
It’s a perfect day here! One of those rare warm days with low humidity and blinding sunshine. I think it’s the last hurrah before summer descends like a hot wet blanket, intent on suffocating us all. So I celebrated by going to spin class, then coming home and working in the yard, mowing the lawn, pulling creepers off the fence, and doing some minor pruning. Now that I am showered, smelling good and starving, I think will find someplace to eat lunch out doors where I can enjoy the sunshine.
Happy Friday to All!
What a productive morning, way to go! I’m hoping to try some spin classes this summer when my schedule opens up.
How do you find Bvlgari Black in warm weather? I’ve always thought of it as a cooler weather scent.
I think a lot of people feel it’s mostly a cool weather scent, but I find it actually has a bit of a cooling and refreshing effect in the heat. To me it seems a very transparent scent, but still has a lot of gumption. I like that contradiction. Plus, one spritz lasts for hours and hours on me. It was one of my more successful blind buys!
Oh, and forgot to mention I hope you like spin! It’s a great cardio workout!
Wearing Bulgari Parfumee au The Rouge today. It’s a great transparent, lightweight rooibos tea scent. Their green tea and white tea scents are good, too. I used to wear L’Occitane’s The Vert and enjoyed all the ancillary products like bath gel, candles, sachets, etc. but it’s d/c. I want to sample the new Bulgari Bleu tea one that’s being released. Also just read about a new Annick Goutal tea scent at Perfume Posse this week, and I’m eager to try it.
I drink a lot of green tea, jasmine green tea, etc. so tea is a favorite with me.
I, too, love the The Vert line!
Until I really thought about it, I didn’t realize how many frags I have with tea in them – Mandragore, Duel, Un Zeste de Rose, LD of Au The Rouge, etc etc. But it’s a chilly day today and then it’s also my own rose week challenge. You can’t imagine my surprise when I identified that Teo Cabanel’s Oha has a significant tea accord in it! Yeah- so not only do I get a warm rose fragrance, but also some tea. I’d never guessed in a million years it was there – it’s so oriental and thick. I rarely wear Oha from my small decants, so this is a treat.
Huh. I might have to get my Oha sample out, maybe tomorrow, and check for tea. That’s such a pretty one.
It’s supposed to be there, but actually I just don’t smell it. It must be in the opening, but it gets lost to my nose in all the other lush goings on. I mostly get that super thick rose and jasmine, the patch, and the other oriental goodies. It’s not my favorite of this rose-oriential-patch style, but it’s still very nice. I think it’s a better masculine even than the wonderful Parfums de Rosine Rose d’Homme.
I’ll clarify here to say that yesterday afternoon I spent some time looking up all my roses in the fragrantica database to see if any of them listed tea in the notes, and that’s how I found that Oha has tea in it, not b/c I actually smelled it.
I do that kind of research too. Fun!
AH! Okay, that makes sense.
It’s been awhile since I smelled Oha.
Realized I don’t actually have any tea scents, I don’t think. I sniffed one last night I liked – I think at Guerlain – but cannot remember name… Will need to try it again.
I am lily of the valley all the way today – Diorissimo. Was just in the mood for pretty. It lasts on me, which is nice.
Was it all the talk of lily last night that pushed you over the edge? 🙂
More like, inspiration?
It certainly made me reach for it today. I didn’t think I overdid, but my boss stepped into my office today and asked my co-worker, “did someone spray a flower scent in here?” I was on the on the phone and didn’t respond. Guess I need to be careful, but how couldn’t he think it was lovely??
Could it have been Shanghai?
It was the Guerlain Muguet, which I don’t think worked on me as well…
Wearing Bvlgari The Vert as well today, layered with the lotion. This is the most recent FB I’ve bought, and I’ve been wearing it pretty often. Spring feels like the right time for it. I need to spray copiously to keep the scent around, though, so I imagine I’ll go through the bottle pretty quickly.
I’m very curious to try the newly announced The Bleu. Would love to hear if the iris note is prominent….
Tom Ford Italian Cypress. I am finding that I am loving more and more wood sense as I get more exposure to perfumes.
Also, anybody interesting in splitting a bottle of 1942 Nobile Rudis? I love this perfume but don’t need such a big bottle . . . or to drop all that cash 🙂
I meant to wear a tea scent but am having a dreadful “squirrel!” problem this week… I keep ending up with a scent different than what I intended when I woke up. I did wear Carthusia Meditteraneo earlier in the week… lovely crisp lemony green tea.
But today is a Hermes Amazone duel: vintage vs current. Are these the same scent?? Not hardly. The vintage may be off a bit but has certainly got some oomph to it. No self respecting Amazon would be caught dead in the current version, though. It’s quite pretty – Fragrantica calls it a ‘floral green harmony’ which is about right.
vintage Amazone was amazing!
I’m wearing Jacomo Art Collection #8. Warm, spicy and milky chai; very comforting.
I love 08!!
Also wearing Jacomo #8. Actually, I started out with Demeter’s Earl Grey, which is amazingly true to life but lasts all of 3 minutes on me.
I own Demeter’s Earl Grey Tea. “Realistic and fleeting” describes many Demeters. They are VERY affordable, though! 🙂
Yes, indeed. You can spray with abandon! 🙂
Triplets!
Wearing Osmanthus Interdite today. It was either this or Ambre Russe, and that was way too much for a spring day. OI is very pretty, and I’m sad that my decant is almost gone. On the plus side, a full bottle is available for not that much money.
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
I gassed myself, in a good way, with this. Bvlgari Black is one of my l time favorite perfumes — so good and oh so inexpensive!
How does this work for you at work? Black can be a powerhouse on me if sprayed to liberally….I can do this at home but definitely not at work!
that would be “too”….typing too fast and not thinking.
Black is not a powerhouse at all for me and is in fact one of my safe perfumes for work and with family. Ii have scent-phobe family members. My other safe perfumes are Cuir Beluga and Chergui.
Chergui is huge on me. Now I want to know your NSFW perfume list 😀 Mind you, this is from the person who’s worn Ferme Tes Yeux, Onda, MdO’s Oud, Homage, MKK and L’air de Rien to work on various rebellious days. In my defense, those were spaced over several years. The only thing I have not worn is Bal a Versailles. Yet. If it can make my cat yowl, I probably shouldn’t wear it to work. What is your dividing line?
Actually, pretty much anything goes at work considering one co-worker wears TF Black Orchid at nuclear levels! I usually apply lightly so most do turn out to be work-safe. The only one that I will not wear to work is Opium.
I went with a Demeter combo: Earl Grey Tea, layered with Honey.
That sounds like something I would drink!
that was the idea! It seemed like a natural combo. And I get good longevity from Honey so it leaves something after Earl Grey wears off.
It’s cool and cloudy here today, so I’m joining MikasMinion in wearing Les Heures de Cartier, but going with the darker Treizième Heure. Smoky black tea leather with just a hint of the horse mane accord that is front and center in Fougueuse. I love both of them!
Ooh! I’ll have to try both of these!
Btw, nozknoz, I saw today that STC is now offering Parfumerie Generale’s limited edition stuff, and I thought of you as you seemed to be interested in Arabian Horse.
YES I’ve been dying to try those, especially Arabian Horse. Thanks so much for letting me know, Holly!
You’re welcome, and thank you for mentioning the horse mane accord in the Cartiers. I look forward to trying both of them.
Wearing Jo Malone Assam & Grapefruit. I forgot I had this bottle! I was suckered by the limited edition status and fact that Sweet Milk had already sold out! It is sooooo light. I like light fragrances and am a light spritzer, but I had to give a few extra spritzes just to make this one noticeable.
Morning tea was the usual – Trader Joe’s English Breakfast. Mid-morning tea is from a stash of individual bags I’ve gotten as extras in swaps or as gifts and am trying to use up. Today’s is Mighty Leaf Green TE Tropical. Nice enough, but nothing I need more of.
Wow, I just saw this on Fragrantica:
http://www.fragrantica.com/news/Guerlain-Mon-Exclusif-Perfume-Without-a-Name-6656.html
I love the clear version of the bow tie bottle, but that spherical cap is just WRONG. And you can put any name on it that you want. Can’t you can just imagine the gears whirring in the marketing department when someone said, “Everyone loves selfies – what if we let them put their names on our perfume.” 🙄
Yes, and I love how the suggestion is that you can name it yourself. Which I immediately translated into your self.
Ha!
Haha, they probably don’t provide enough letters but I would call it “Eau de corporate not so clever idea masking a disappointing lack of effort”
LOL, Sajini!
Fragrantica commenter SolangeN suggested, “Sauter le Requin,” which translates as “Jump the Shark.” 😉
Finding a scent with tea notes appropriate for a glorious spring day – warm, sunny (perfectly cloudless blue sky), blossoms and blooms literally bursting out all over – was a bit of a challenge, as my tea scents are all cool-weather fragrances (especially Bvlgari Omnia).
But a search revealed an as-yet untried sample of Givenchy Ange ou Demon Le Secret (the original from 2009, not the 2014 reform). A bit tart, a bit sweet, bright lemon joins with a prominent green tea note for an uplifting, refreshing opening, followed by a clean, soft jasmine and anchored by a bit of patch. It’s very pleasant and – perhaps it’s just the gorgeous day influencing my enjoyment of the scent – but it is ‘joyful’ and a good choice for today. Plus I feel virtuous for using up a long-neglected sample!
Some spring days are so impossibly beautiful that they seem unreal … as if I’m in a dream.
My FB of this…the older version, is sadly neglected. Must remedy,
Oolong Infini today for me, but it’s not fitting my mood. It always strikes me as sporty, and I’ve no idea why. I may stick some Black on top as it fades. I’m always in the mood for tire/tar vanilla and spice. That thing fascinates me. Now you guys will have me sniffing my wrists, looking for tea 🙂
I almost went with that one this morning … and then had The Chiffons in my head singing “oolang oolang ooLANG oolang!” all morning. Now they’re back – hoping to give them to some other poor NST’er by posting this. Apologies in advance. 🙂
Hah! You’ve succeeded in passing it on to at least one more.
ooLANG! You are hilarious, and evil. Yep, you gave me an earworm, to go with my sporty fragrance. Well, I just drowned it out with GOLCONDA.
Now I’m thinking about Sir Mix A Lot. See what you started?
Wearing lots of Tea for Two and drank Kusmi St. Petersburg for breakfast today!
I had the best of intentions to wear costume national scent intense today but my eeny weeny bottle of vintage rochas femme parfum was calling out to me. I might be making things up here, but the peach note in combination with woods and a smidge of sweet marshmallow puts me in mind of monk’s tea.
Didnt feel like scent during the day, but now I have Tea for Two on one wrist and Osmanthe Yunnan on the other 🙂
I went to the Avengers Age of Ultron movie today too! As I was woken up from a sound sleep by my Mom to tell me the plans to see a early matinee for it ,I just grabbed a handy bottle of VS Dream Angels ( Wish or Halo not sure which – the lettering has rubbed off the bottle). Creamy floral with a bit of pepper. Now that I’m actually awake I’m debating whether to go for tea sync, tuberose sync or May Day lily of the valley.
The Avengers movie was great ! And it looks like the new MI4 and AntMan movies will be too.
I haven’t seen any of those movies, although I believe everyone who says they are very entertaining. Antman, however, became a must-see as soon as they cast Paul Rudd.
Very late to the party, but I am wearing L’Artisan The Pour Un Ete.
Wearing Jacomo Art Collection No. 8, which I found at a clearance price below my blind-buy limit, and which arrived just in time for today. It is exactly as advertised, and I am delighted that my wonky nose doesn’t make it disappear after 20 minutes or turn it into a vat of harsh-smelling chemicals. It got very quiet on me after about an hour, but I suppose that makes it more versatile. Fairly perfect for a hot, dry day. My only other option was a(nother) sample of Bulgari Black, which is much more tire than tea on me, and I couldn’t face it in this heat. It’s still one of those rare “enjoy having a sniff but hesitate to wear” perfumes for me. Au The Rouge is on my buy list, but falls into the “really pleasant and reasonably priced” category, as opposed to the “haunting my dreams” one.
Today started out with Elizabeth W. Sweet Tea before I went a little heavier and from tea to wine with Botrytis. They actually worked fairly well together. 🙂
