Happy Tuesday! What's your fragrance today?
I'm wearing Cartier Déclaration.
Reminder: this Friday, 4/17, will be Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is the Cartier Juste un Clou bracelet, $7200.
Une Fleur de Cassie and Bulgari pour Femme on the other side to compare. I think they’re both great.
I never tried Declaration, I must read about it now.
If you hate cumin, skip the Declaration, or try the “Declaration Cologne” version.
Cumin? I’ll pass…somehow my skin seems to amplify that note and it comes off as sweaty stench…..yet interestingly enough I love cumin in my food and eat quite a bit of Indian….
Same for me. There are only a very few fragrances that I enjoy with a tad of cumin in them. I think my fav of those is Le Labo Rose 31 – only b/c the rose can really stand up to the cumin.
For me it is Gucci…although it has cumin the orange blossom sings….
I’m with bardot – that Gucci EDP is fantastic. Probably my most-complimented fragrance.
It has cumin?! So far I thought its just a faint rose on me. Now I wonder…
I can’t wear Declaration, but my husband smells fantastic in it.
I think the only perfume I like with cumin is L’AP Al Oudh. Sometimes I like Amouage Jubilation 25, but that’s on the days when I don’t notice the cumin. Of course, there are probably others where it is a present in much smaller quantities and blend in better.
I think pretty much everything can work in the right composition, so I’m not against any note :).
Cumin is generally not a problem note for me, but in Declaration it is just too much :).
I used to find Declaration unwearable. It’s grown on me, but basically all that means is I wear a drop every so often.
And still can’t wear Frederic Malle Bigarade…it is too much!
I don’t really enjoy cumin, but it never bothered me in Déclaration. The cardamom/vetiver combo however… I call it the dirty ashtray note. And yet, it’s addictive and I could not live without it.
Wait, what would be an example of that?
Great choices. Pour Femme is quite underrated but actually one of my most worn scents.
I wear it a lot, too. I even got a backup bottle, though I doubt I’ll ever need it.
Me too.
Got a sample of Houbigant Iris des Champs–loved the opening, not too sure about the drydown. Beverage is Kusmi Russian Morning.
My tea is French Breakfast Mariage Freres
I’m on my 3rd cup…have had my morning Irish Breakfast and 2 kinds of green tea so far. I stupidly ordered a large tin of Kusmi Anastasia in the limited edition Jean Paul Gaultier tin, so will have that later!
Why stupidly?
Seemed a little ridiculous to me that I wanted the tin just because of the JPG design. I don’t even particularly care about JPG. And I do like Anastasia but it’s not my favorite Kusmi.
It seems a perfectly good reason to me. Anastasia is not my favourite either, but I occasionally buy it for my boyfriend’s half-brother’s girlfriend 🙂 who happens to be called Anastasia.
I’m still not sure how I feel about Iris de Champs. Don’t hate it, don’t love it. It was supposed to be blooming iris, but mostly smells like soapy orange blossom + orris root to me.
Hi, Mals, how is everything down on the farm? I love this Houbigant bottle, but everyone seems to find the juice wimpy or odd. Orange blossom plus orris root doesn’t sound too bad to me. How does it compare to the big irises for you, you know, Iris Silver Mist, Iris Poudre, VC&A Bois d’Iris, even Infusion d’Iris?
Hmmm. I can’t really remember Bois d’Iris, if I have even tried it at all. With regards to the other three, I should probably tell you what I think of them too. 🙂 ISM is so cool and rooty, it’s really like nothing else. I d’I, which I do like but don’t wear very often, is quietly composed. I adore! Iris Poudre, but to be honest about it, it isn’t the iris that I love, it’s the aldehydes and the wonderful fluffy drydown.
Another more-floral iris scent is Iris Ukiyoe, and that one’s probably closer to the Iris de Champs. (But I hate Iris Ookie because it smells mostly like celery to me.)
(For comparison, here’s a big post at the Posse that discusses a buncha iris scents… I know you’ve been investigating them for awhile. http://perfumeposse.com/2013/06/10/best-iris-perfume-a-comprehensive-guide/ )
I’m going to go put a spritz of IdC on the back of my hand to remind myself what it’s like, and I’ll be back later with more recent impressions.
Thanks for your impressions – IP is my favorite of the ones I listed, but I wear all of them, altho I am out of PdI at the moment….Thanks for the Posse post as well, I had not see that!
Oh, you’re welcome. Yeah, now I’ve got it back on my thumb I’m remembering that it reminds me of Bvlgari pour femme, which I don’t like. Floral, but dusty and soapy at the same time.
First thing in the morning I’m afraid I just drink Tetley British Blend. With all the dogs and cats asking for breakfast Right Now (or we’ll steal your teabag right out of the mug!), I can’t get it together to make tea properly.
I know that there was an article mentioned yesterday about woman wearing lighter scents..that is not me. Today I layered Sahara Noir and Journey Woman on my scarf.
Last night I was out at a fancy dinner and tried my sample of Memo Luxor Oud..very beautiful but I wanted it to last and last and give me more and more..
Sahara Noir is fabulous stuff. I would already own a bottle if I wasn’t so outraged by the price tag.
Once in a while you can find Sahara Noir (and Violet Blonde) at the online discounters – that’s why I have FBs of these two.
I will look out for it on discounter websites
This price is a bit much!
SOTD is my old friend Shalimar edp. It’s been a while since we hooked up and I forgot just how much I love her.
That bracelet is the bomb-diggity, but I would rather spend the $7200 on a new roof and upgrade my exterior paint and re-do my entire front porch and add some nice landscaping and ….
Deva, I’m totally with you on the bracelet. Gorgeous. But after such a short while I get so fed up with any bracelet (just gets in the way too much), and I could use the $7200 somewhere else.
SOTD is Caleche. Love it.
I’d rather spend it on a plane tix and trip to Paris and then try it on and pass at the Cartier shop!
Ann, you win!
Going for something classic this Tuesday so I am wearing one of my favourite fougeres….Ineke’s Derring Do….and just discovered this fabulous tea…and it’s organic! Rishi’s Pu-erh Bordeaux with grape skins and a touch of blackberry…delicious!
That tea sounds wonderful. As soon as I clear enough space for a new tea I may try it. The tea cupboard in the current house is much smaller than I’m used to and I’ve had to be good.
Also, I love Derring Do and keep meaning to pull my Inekes out and give them some skin time.
MikasMinion- my tea obsession is as bad as my perfume obsession 🙂 !!!
I love the Inekes in the springtime….(except Evening Edged in Gold, which is more of a winter fragrance for me and one of my favourite leathers- I often spray it inside my leather gloves)
Seems like many of us also have a tea obsession 😉
All this talk of tea is bumming me out. I’ve been an avid tea drinker for at least 15 years, but then just this year I finally discovered that the source of most of my sinus troubles and skin irritations is actually a sensitivity/allergy to the tannin in tea! Who would ever imagine. All these years I’m like: I feel bad, so I’ll drink more tea to feel better, and it was only making it worse. I was so sad and tried everything to keep on drinking it once I realized the problem, but now that I’ve given it up I feel so much better, even my asthma has lightened up. I’m not really a big coffee drinker, so I’m in hot beverage limbo. There is only so much that rooibos and herbals can do for me. I have all these lovely teapots and cups, etc. And they are so neglected now. 🙁
Oh how interesting — we are opposites, I’ve had to give up coffee and rooibos! I can live without the rooibos but miss coffee like crazy, and it’s made me really branch out into the world of bolder-style black teas. But would kill for a nice big cup of my cold brew cardamom coffee!
AnnS – that is very sad 🙁 It’s probably a relief to know what it is at least! Is it only the tannins in tea, or does red wine and chocolate bother you too???
I am diggin Pineapple Pop by Tevana or whatever that brand is. It’s so yummy.
*and it’s herbal if Ann is intersted:)
Robin – that is very funny that we are hot beverage opposites. Thankfully the only thing that coffee does is keep me from sleeping at night. I’d die for a nice hot pot of Assam tea! Everyone else – thanks for your tips on herbals. Cheers!
AnnS-
There are some really great herbal “teas” that I buy from Pawling Trading Co for family members avoiding caffeine… Yoga, Lady Hannah’s Fruit and Feel Better are a staple in my house…I am always drinking tea because I am always cold (even in the summer with the a/c running all day)….so when I want to stop on the caffeine I resort to those.
And also recommend Tulsi teas…they have a licorice one that is good but my favourite is the Rose…I know you like rose as a perfume note so you would definitely love this tea (no caffeine and I believe no tannins as the “tea” is made from an herb called Holy basil which is actually quite healthy for you 🙂 !!
I will have to check them out – thanks for the tips.
My tea cupboard is rapidly filling up, stocked up at Freres Mariage on the weekend!
I’m wearing about 1.5ml of Amoureuse as I think it’s the strongest thing I packed. Something in a box someplace crammed in the back of the car smells truly funky. Probably an old quilt or some odd thing used to pack something else. I have my suspicions of the curtain padding the desk lamp. Whatever it is it prompted a request for something really strong from my husband. So now I smell great and anyone passing us on the highway may be able to tell. Wonder if my sillage is visible from space?
Probably!
I think Amoureuse is just amazing. I remember thinking it was huuuuge when I first tried it 2 years ago, but it seemed like a pretty reasonable BWF when I tried it the other day :).
Your sillage is definitely visible from space lol! Now if you were wearing Bois des Paradise, it would be visible on Pluto!! Good luck with the move.
I thought about BdP but thought it might be a bit much.
We aren’t actually moving just schlepping lots of “treasures” home from Grandma’s place. We packed her stuff to move her to assisted living.
In addition to the tacky 80’s fish bathroom wall art, we now possess a ton of barley-used vintage towels, a nice bedpan, two Electorlux vacuums with attachments, a huge box of scratched records, and many beaded macrame plant hangers. I’m actually not sure what else is in here since I just started grabbing stuff my MIL was waving around so we could leave.
There is nothing like old towels!
Macrame plant hangers! My mum made them in the 70’s and I adopted them all when I moved out of home, as well as buying any I found at opshops. They were so cheap! Now of course they’ve all rotted away and the 70’s are cool again, and even repro macrame hangers I’ve seen sell for $150 each!! So wish I’d kept some!!
I’m wearing Parfum d’Empire’s Ambre Russe. The first hour or so is a bit fierce, but after that it’s just a gorgeous amber.
One of my favorites (and what I would prefer to be drenched in, honestly). I wish it wasn’t past the season I can spray AR with abandon. You smell great!
I got a big decant of AR right at the end of winter, I almost wished it lasted a little longer, so I could wear it some more!
Good morning! Still trying to work my way through some samples. Right now I have on Tocca’s Simone. I can get some of the fruity notes for a few minutes (but don’t really like them) and then it’s just an uninspired musk on me. Haven’t had much luck with Tocca. I think it was all downhill once I tested Cleopatra and didn’t get something Shalimar-esque like I expected from the name!
I thought I’d try a few ouds later today. I find it a bit of an overwhelming note, but we’ll see how it goes. I have L’Artisan Al Oudh and The Different Company’s Oud Shamash. I might have a few others if I can find them!
have you tried Tocca’s Brigitte? That has spices and ginger and I quite like it.
Ah, your user name does imply you might like it! 😉 I’m not sure I’ve tried it – maybe in a whirlwind of tester strips at Sephora. The notes sound interesting – I will have to try it on my skin the next time I pass through, thanks for the heads up 🙂
I’ll have to try that next time I’m in Sephora.
Most of the Toccas are lighter things, and based on the things you mention, are probably not up your alley. I read the description for Tocca Margaux and it sounds interesting, but my Sephora didn’t have it. Brigitte is nice and Bianca is a citrus green tea.
My skin instantly ate the Cleopatra which I thought was crazy! I sprayed and walked straight over to my friend and her kid – he thought I was playing a prank and hadn’t sprayed anything, so it wasn’t just me! I will check out a few more including the ones you’ve mentioned and see if I have better luck 🙂
I am wearing a week of Aqua Allegorias. I decided this once I realized I had at least five bottles or decants.Yesterday I wore Herba Fresca and today is Mandarine Basilic. More bottles it is crazy that I don’t spray on more often.
That sounds like fun! And today you’re wearing my favorite.
I really like my bottle of Flora Nymphea, which was a blind buy from one of those big discount dress stores (I got it for dirt cheap…$9.99 I think!)
A greenish scent of flower, honey and woods, weirdly I always get a pale purple flower vibe from it as well… an indistinct wisteria, or hyacinths, or even lilacs…but I don’t know that anyone else does.
Occasionally I do very well in those big discount stores. Lately, thought, they’ve had a lot of Britney Spears Fantasy. I’ll pass on that. But once I found Joy at Marshall’s!
SOTD: I Love New York Marriage Equality (Bond no. 9)
Do you get a lot of the plum note from this one? It is a favourite of mine. I like the look of the notes of this one, regardless 🙂
I do. Now I want to revisit the ILNY for Earth Day to check out the tuberose note. 🙂
Vanilla Flash today! It definitely feels related to PHI, with a few moments that reminded me of vanilla cola on my first wearing, but that are actually more like a rich, dark, spiced, vanillic rum. I could still smell it a bit on my wrist this morning, and what was left was wonderful. I’m not sure how well this will work in humid DC summers (or on a hypothetical Caribbean vacation), but for now, I think I’ll be getting lots of wear out of it.
Thanks for the mini-review! I love Tauer’s perfumes, including PHI, and also love vanilla so I’m very tempted by this one. Is it very sweet?
It doesn’t come off as very sweet to me, and it doesn’t single out the vanilla too much, either. If you like PHI and also like vanilla, this is definitely worth a try.
Thanks, I’ll put it on my list. I like that it’s more reasonably priced than his regular line.
SOTD is Five O’Clock at Gigembre. I was going to wear Infusion d’Iris, but it just didn’t go with the color I was wearing so I put on the Gigembre. Then I changed 😆
I got some samples in the mail last night, very exciting! Seville a l’aube – I get it now, so pretty! Also got to finally try the CdG incense series. I like Kyoto and Ouarzazate very much. Avignon is nice too.
Kyoto is my favorite after living with the whole group for a few years, but sometimes nothing but Avignon will do.
Kyoto seems easier to wear, but yes sometimes it just has to be Avignon!
You smell delicious! I am wearing CdG Kyoto today; my fave of the series.
I blind bought a bottle of Seville for my sister-in-law maybe two-three years ago–about 6 months after it was released–purely because of its back story, which I knew she would like. I have a feeling she never wears the fragrance and we do NOT have the sort of relationship where I could ask. I finally broke down this month and ordered a small decant of it for myself so I could try it finally!
I spent some time near Ouarzazate when I was in Morocco – I want to sniff that one….
Day 2 of Mystery Caron is Parfum Sacre edp, definitely not the original 1991 vintage (which was apparently very spicy and incensey) but still not bad: roses roses roses at first, then a slow transition to a vanilla-soaked oriental.
I love Parfum Sacre, at least the nonvintage edp I’ve been able to try*. I find it very comforting in cool weather.
* I did once have a small decant of the extrait which I think was original issue, and it really did not blow my skirt up. I was surprised.
It’s odd, isn’t it? Some of us fetishize the idea of extrait, especially vintage, and then it lets us down. I still haven’t found a version of Mitsouko that I love as much as the ten-plus-year-old edt (old enough to be very oakmossy), and I’ve tried vintage parfum. (What vintage I couldn’t say but I think it was at least 20 years old.) I like the fury of the edt better than the extrait’s smoothness.
I enjoy my old Mitsouko extrait, but I really like my edp more. I think that happens a lot.
I have yet to meet a Caron I don’t love. Is En Avion on your list?
I wore the extrait yesterday! It was a relatively new version (from a decant), I think, and didn’t have the depth and richness I wanted, but I’ll wear just about anything with lots of carnations in it.
Have you tried or will you be trying vintage Nocturnes de Caron?
I don’t have a decant of that one, unfortunately.
I have a large, barely used older nubby bottle of Nocturnes that I’d be happy to swap away….
Guerlain Mayotte. Not sure if my sample is off or that’s just the perfume.
Mayotte was VERY polarizing when it was first launched as Mahora, so I bet it’s the perfume.
Yeah….it’s really weird. There’s an interesting toasted coconut note. But the white floral part just seems bad? It kind of feels like Guerlain was embarrassed by the concept.
I haven’t tried Mayotte but I do have a bottle of Mahora. Is the ‘off’ you speak of kind of bitter and old vase water-ish? If so, that’s not off, that’s Mayotte 🙂
Yes, bitter! There’s a bitterness that seems out of place.
It is rather out of place isnt it.. Usually I can ignore it but sometimes I feel I shouldnt have to- there should be no unpleasantness in my perfume! Lol
I once had a mini of Mahora I bought unsniffed off ebay, and enjoyed it until the drydown, when it got SO HORRIBLE that I couldn’t bear it… and yes, it was a bitter, old-vasewater thing.
I thought the same thing. I resisted pulling it back out of the freebie pile today after I read the comments.
Haven’t decided on a scent yet…
Anyone seen the new Sundance Catalog? It’s theme is a woman’s vanity–so the jewelry is displayed next to creams, powders, and yes, perfume bottles… I didn’t recognize a single one… they are woven into the graphics on nearly every other page, most of them empty. Fun to hunt them out.
Oh, I used to really enjoy that catalog!
Me too! Seldom buy anything from it, but whoever puts it together does a really great job of making it all look like a consistent concept.
Gucci edp today.
And Higher Living Cocoa & Chilli tea that’s not actually tea but herbal infusion. I always feel compelled to try the weirdest things I see, and things I havent tried before (how would one discover such wonders otherwise?!) and I’m actually pretty impressed with this. Both perfume and drink perfect for a rainy autumn day.
You smell great! as I said above the only cumin perfume my skin tolerates!
I am with you on the tea….I always seek out the oddest combinations or make odd combinations myself….I am so bad that I have even put drops of essential oils onto the loose teas before brewing….I am probably slowly poisoning myself-LOL! but at least my tastebuds are happy!
and btw, Yogi Teas also makes a chili tea which is quite good .
Ooh thanks I’ll have to see if I can get them here..
I know some oils should only be ingested under strict instruction (tea tree, eucalytus..) but those that are from edible sources are usually fine. I saw an ad recently, I think it was for Liptons infused teas for ‘extra’ flavour- so it looks like they like your idea too 😉
I do that with cocktail bitters… I love them and put them in juice or sometimes just plain water. Same with orange blossom water and rose water.
I am a recent convert to bitters in mineral water. Yum. And yes, they work in teas too, if your tea turns out to be really boring!
Heh, I do the same thing! I don’t always like it, but it’s fun to know what’s out there. That’s a big reason I got into perfume – I just had to try some of the weird or out there perfumes (Musca Koublai Khan, for one). Also, chocolate with chili is one of my favorite combos 🙂
That’s what my chain of thought was here… ‘mmmm… hot chocolate with chili.. YUMMM!!… hmmm… REALLY fattening to be drinking all year maybe the herbal version will suffice..’ and it has licorice for sweetness, the cocoa tastes like cocoa and just enough chili for kick 🙂
I’m drinking blackcurrant and mint tea, that qualifies as relatively interesting as well, right? It’s also an infusion, not real tea, but I’ve been enjoying herbal teas a lot lately.
Love that bracelet! One could only dream of wearing a $7000.00 piece of jewelry. My SOTD is Cristalle by Chanel. Haden’t worn it in a while, so it seemed like a good choice. For some reason, this scent just reminds me of nature ( pine cones, trees, fresh flowers) on a nice Spring day! Hope everyone has a good day!
You smell marvelous today!
🙂
Scentfromabove, one of the reasons I like certain perfumes is that they make me smell like someone who wears $7,000 (and higher) jewelry, even though that is not my reality. 24 Fauborg, I’m looking at you.
Ha ha ha ha! This made me laugh. Now I need to go sniff 24 Fauborg!
Wow, that’s quite an endorsement for 24 Fauborg. I’ve not gotten around to smelling that one, but I definitely need to now!
Fauborg is really elegant!
Lol! Love it. 🙂
I’m wearing Tom Ford Fleur de Chine and it makes me feel that way, too. Unfortunately, it costs almost as much as the bracelet.
It’s a chilly spring day, but nature is calling to me. I wanted something earthy so I put on a very delicate dab of Clinique Aromatics Elixir.
Love that! Will have to dig out my sample that I made for myself at the Clinique counter!
Bond No 9 Chinatown is my scent of the day
one of my favourite incense fragrances (I have the 100ml bottle…so pretty on my dresser!) and perfect for spring…you smell great!
Robin, great choice! I love Declaration, especially the “Essence” version, and tend to wear it most often in the summer. I also encourage my husband to wear it as much as possible, because I think it smells particularly great on a man.
I’m wearing one of my favorite office scents, Balmain Ivoire. Not as exciting as Declaration, but soft and easy.
vintage? that is the only one I know …haven’t smelled the reformulation….
I have the new Ivoire, and actually like it better than the vintage.
I will have to try it then 🙂 !!
I think I have not yet tried the Essence (but not 100% sure. memory=bad), will have to look for it.
The Essence flanker is a bit richer and maybe spicier than the original Declaration, but similar enough that you probably don’t need to seek it out if you already have plenty of the original.
Finally day a to spend outside in the garden in the warm sunshine. Laundry is hanging on the line for the first time this spring! The breezy scent to accompany me today is L’Occitane Feuilly d’Orange (Orange Leaves) edc. Not just the fruit, it’s the scent of the whole tree, leaves, stems, flowers: juicy, sweet, green, bitter and a bit spicy. I love it, wish it could still be found; unfortunately, it’s long d/c.
I love hanging laundry out on the clothesline!! The weather has been conducive to it over the last couple of weeks, but it’s raining today.
I used to dry laundry at my parents’ house by draping it over the GIANT lavender and Rosemary bushes. Nothing smelled so good at that clean laundry …
WOOOOOW.
Oh, sounds wonderful. I have lavender and rosemary in my garden, but where I live, at best they could be middle size plants but never shrubs. Mine are small, I could probably dry one sock over each of them, but at least my feet would smell good! 🙂
Lavender and rosemary don’t survive our winters. I’d grow them if they did.
The first time my Little One saw me do this, I had to explain the concept to her (she only knew that clothes dried in machines). Later, as she was getting ready for bed, she buried her face in her line-dried nightgown, inhaled deeply, and with a big smile said, It smells like sunshine! 🙂
She’s right.
oh wow! that sounds good! I am guessing it is bitter orange, petitgrain, neroli and orange blossom ….
Yes, pretty much every orange-related note, except blood orange.
Wearing Safari today. Again. Seems like I go through phases of wanting to wear it every day… but I enjoy it so much.
Love Safari! always carried a mini in my backpack years ago!
Safari is such a great fragrance. It could definitely be a go to or signature scent. It’s perfect all year round.
My nose is finally recovering from the cold, so I have an SOTD today – DSH’s Oelliets Rouges. Really carnation and lots of spices early on- now at about 5 hours, I am still getting some flowers on a nice mild powdery base. This is really very pretty, and I feel like I may wear this quite a bit!
Oeillets Rouges is so nice – one of my favorite DSHs, including Rose Vert, La Fete Nouvelle, and 1000 Lilies.
Wearing Fate Woman today and wondering if it meant my fate today would be to deal with annoying moving issues of all kinds…
Not only am I in the process of personally moving house, but I’m also in charge of dealing with our new property management company because the business I work for is moving.
Personal home issues: I ordered furniture from a company that shall remain nameless. They were supposed to put stuff shipped via UPS on HOLD until the date of or after we move. This morning – for the third time- I’ve had to call the company and verbally rip someone a new ***hole because I got a shipment noticed that an item would be delivered TODAY – before I own the house. After yelling at the rep I think I FINALLY got the situation taken care of (and a hefty credit on my account WHICH I TOTALLY DESERVE).
Business moving issues: I go check on the property today and only 1 item out of a laundry list has been done and no one will still get back to me regarding the horrendous roof leaking issues. Time to go rip someone at the PM a new one as well. This all after I was assured stuff was being taken care of there. *head*desk*
There, there. You will get it all sorted out… even if you have to rip several new ones! It will all get done and be wonderful and you will then be able to relax.
I know, but I’ve never had so many issues with a furniture store before. It’s terrible and really dampening the process right now because I’m in a perpetual state of anxiety about them screwing up something else before Friday.
There needs to be a way to waft perfume over the phone. They would have fallen into line more quickly with a good dose of Amouage. 😉 I hope the rest of your week goes better!
Continuing this week’s DelRae testing… haven’t decided yet which will be SOTD…
TOTD though is The Republic of Tea Golden Yunnan, which is my favorite tea, period. Expensive but *totally* worth it 🙂
oh, dear so many nice tea mentions. Is there a NTTT (Now Taste This Tea) blog, I wonder? Robin, you should make a sister blog with the same sort of format for tea! In your spare time, you know…
I second that 🙂 !!! We are as much a bad influence on each other with buying new teas untasted as we are buying new fragrances unsniffed!
I wish such a blog existed! I could not possibly…I really don’t know enough. I was hardly an expert about perfume when I launched NST (nor am I now!) but I’m even more uninformed about tea. I just like tea.
Upton Tea posts reviews on Facebook, so perhaps we could contribute to tea conversations there?
There are, actually, several tea blogs and tea magazines as well…but I think it would be fun to have a few tea posts for perfume addicts on a perfume blog…what do you say, Robin?
I have done tea posts here in the past…this seems to be the last one:
https://nstperfume.com/2013/02/14/sweets-for-the-sweet-five-chocolate-bars-two-teas/
So we’re due for another 🙂
Oh, and yes, I do know there are tea blogs! They tend to be more “serious” about tea than I am.
Robin- I loved that post! PLEASE do more 🙂 !!
and we don’t need to be serious about the tea ;)!
I like the occasional tea, chocolate, book and great things posts here. Our fragrant community has such wonderful recommendations!
Mmmm. Gold Yunnan is a wonderful tea! There’s a tea house in the city where I get mine. Love it.
SOTD is Wit. Which is very pretty — realistic bouquet of yellow spring flowers, stems included. I’m just not sure I’m nice enough to wear this 🙂
I need, need to try this– it’s ridiculous how many wonderful reviews I’ve heard and still haven’t bought a sample. I another spring note, I tried Kerosene’s Pretty Machine today and it was soooo lovely for spring
I’m in Bond No. 9 Harrod’s Rose today. No roses or any other flowers yet where I live. Won’t be long, however, before the dandelions come up!
It’s slowly getting warmer in Cleveland but still now quite warm enough to bring out my lighter perfumes. Today I am wearing Havana Vanille. I’m so excited that Beauty Encounter has some bottles left and since I have already blown my no bottle buy April, I’m getting a backup.
I’m sampling Tom Ford Fleur de Chine today. So far so good!!
I’m wearing it, too. I bought a bottle a couple of months ago and I just love it.
Continuing on my theme of At Least A Few Molecules Get Through Congestion, I am wearing Inoui. I really hope this clears before I go on vacation to San Diego on Sat
Oh, my sympathies! Now that I sort of feel better and can smell and taste things again, it’s like I am practically having a manic episode sniffing everything in sight and nibbling everything worth putting in my mouth!
Inoui is gorgeous. Wish I had more than a dab.
It’s a bit muted but at least I can smell it a little. Is great stuff though.
I have always been curious about Inoui…love the name too!
Hi there! I live in San Diego, so if you have any questions about anything, please feel free to contact me at jasouza9 in hotmail land.
I’m at a conference in Austin all this week. I had to choose some scents to bring with me and brought SJP Covet, Panhaligon’s Night-blooming Stock, EDLO Don’t Get Me Wrong, Baby, and Gres Cabaret. Today is a slow conference day and I’m wearing Cabaret.
Cabaret is terrific!
Austin is fun – so many great restaurants!
I’m testing Helmut Lang Cuiron today. There is citrus at the start, and then some suede-y leather and a touch of incense. 30 minutes after spraying it’s pretty much a skin scent.
Jenkr, sympathizing with you about moving/people doing their jobs properly. I went through a bathroom reno (that should have taken 3 weeks and took ten) and yesterday the glass medicine cabinet fell off the wall and onto me. I have a bruise but was otherwise not hurt but I am so angry.
Ack! I’m always worried about cabinets falling off walls – makes me want to take some engineering courses so I can understand why they stay up there (with all those dishes or whatever in them) at all. Glad to hear you survived with minor injuries – may we assume the cabinet did not?
SOTD is my first and very successful blind buy that arrived yesterday – Seville a L’Aube. It’s unusual, and a bit different from anything else I’ve tried, and quite lovely.
OMG!
I remember when you were talking about that reno! I’m so sorry that’s happened to you! Ugh, general incompetence is mind-blowing these days. We were just talking about this at lunch. I would be LIVID and ready to get medieval on some people for that. There is no excuse for such poor work being done when it took so long to finish! I hope it gets fixed PROPERLY soon.
Cuiron was a fast skin-scent on me too. The progression was the same on me and I thought it was rather boring.
Ooh, I can so relate to the reno woes. My worst this month has been: the guys mixing concrete for the screed floor in the bathroom ON the Oregon pine floor in the passage!
That’s terrible! Why would they think it would EVER be okay to do that?
I used to take myself to another room when workmen were here but now I stand over them and watch and ask a lot of questions. I don’t care what they think of me anymore.
I know! Big lesson learnt is supervise supervise supervise.
Put on some Eau de Shalimar this morning, but as it turned out it is still too cold for it. I longed for its cheerful lemon meringue crumbles.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
Green and lovely. I wonder if there is a shower gel of this? Mind you, I don’t need any more shower gels but for the right one, I will break my moratorium.
there is, NM carries it. Might have to spring for it when I finish the Fracas shower gel that I got inexpensively on Beauty Encounter.
Oooh, which means Bergdorfs may have it. I have gift cards burning a hole in my pocket!
Strawberrynet stock it too. They have the body products for most Chanel’s..
I just bought the shower gel and lotion for Baiser Vole, and AdP Colonia Oud shower gel… still wanting Jour d’Hermes products but they’re a bit pricey 🙁
En Passant.Olivia Giacobetti.SOTD.Robin should be happy, lol.I sure am!Happy Week NST!
Of course I am happy 🙂
You smell lovely.
En Passant makes my heart sigh. So, so lovely.
I’m sampling Iris Ganache for the first time today. I had anticipated that it would not be my style, and it isn’t. But now and then I want in on the conversation anyway, such as the Guerlain week over at Fragrantica’s Gourmand Gang. Lovely bunch of people. This bunch here is darn lovely too.
Iris Ganache is desert island worthy for me. So glad I have a bottle of it
Day 2 in Balenciaga Paris. Why, oh why, can’t this one last longer?!?
floragal, that’s a question I ask of so many fragrances – alas.
I’m so sorry this doesn’t last for you! It fades on me by day’s end, but definitely doesn’t disappear.
Finally settled on Prada (by Prada edp–the light colored “Amber” version)… I wear it like an old sweater that I remember from days when it was in better shape…
Hello everyone! It’s been forever! Today I’m trying a bit of Molinard Vanille Fruitee. It’s quite sweet and fluffy (reminds me a bit of cotton candy), but fortunately today is a rainy day so I can deal with it. 🙂 It might be bit much for me on a warm and sunny day.
I tried the new Jo Malone Sakura Cherry Blossom today. Meh. It smells EXACTLY like one of Bath and Body Works’ cherry blossom scents that I have at home and never wear.
Thanks for the info…I have wanted to try these LE spring ones as well as the LE Rock of Ages (is that what they are calling it? not sure)….but haven’t gotten to a Jo malone yet….I am always afraid I am going to like something and the spring ones (Sakura Cherry, Plum Blossom and Osmanthus) only come in the gigantic bottles….I have a 15 dollar gift certificate to B&BW and it has been sitting in my wallet for two years now….maybe I’ll get my cherry blossom scent there instead!
Jo Malone perfumes are about two times nicer than Bath and Body Works, but ten times more expensive…
Eeek! That bracelet looks like it would stab you every time you moved your wrist.
Oh good, I thought it was just me. 🙂
Demeter Wet Garden for now, though these are short-lived, so maybe something else later. Definitely wet and springy, but I wanted more dirt. Guess I have to get some Dirt to go with it!
SOTD is Eau Premiere, which, although pretty, makes me think I should just get some “regular” No. 5.
Burberry brit rhythm is my sotd. Lovely stuff. Just ordered a fb.
I’m so glad you ended up getting a FB. The price is right and I find it a nice fragrance to go to when I don’t want to think too hard about my sotd.
Passage d’Enfer since I now finally own an FB
Today I am wearing Tauerville’s Vanilla Flash. I love it!
Oh, I think it’s great too. I have worn it twice so far and have had two completely different experiences. What do you like most about it?
I like that it is composed of many things–not just straight vanilla and it is not sickening sweet. Most vanilla fragrances are much too sweet for my liking–even Serge Lutens. It also changes quite a bit throughout the hours of wearing it. Lot of other vanilla scents are mostly straight vanilla. I do like Dame Perfumery’s White Flower Mexican Vanilla and I also like Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille.
Yes, my reaction is the same in that it’s not *primarily* a vanilla scent, but has many other facets. Enjoy your new perfume 🙂
I am enjoying it Deva. Thanks.
I love that it’s not strictly vanilla, too. That leave space in a collection for a strictly vanilla scent without any guilt associated with redundancy. 🙂
I filled out a postcard requesting a sample of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla from Dame Perfumery last week and was thrilled to have three samples waiting in the mail for me last night. Today is a lovely spring day in Los Angeles, so I’m sampling Passion Fruit, Orange Blossom, and Vetiver. Seemed a good fit.
So far I’m liking it. Not in love, but it’s a pleasant fragrance for a pleasant day at work.
It;s the drydown that I really like on this one…something about that orange blossom/vetiver combo…it’s sweet and lush but not too cloying…..
Went with Lolita Lempicka today. It was speaking to me this morning, but probably wasn’t a good choice because I already had a headache. It certainly didn’t help on that front, though some ibuprofen did.
Wore Bois de Paradis to a painful morning meeting. A nice, boozy scent to make up for the fact that there was no whisky in my tea…
Just loving Cartier Baiser Vole EDT for it’s crisp greenness. Taxes, bills, and my little poodle had 21 teeth extracted today. He is a puppy mill poodle and a rescue to boot. Perhaps I should have looked in his mouth before falling in love with my sweet little Charlie? Needless to say we will be brushing his remaining tooth and my other two rescues are going on dental hygiene regimes as well.
Oh, poor Charlie. Will you puree his food?
Soaking his kibble until it is soft, he ate like a champ after his trying day. He is quite high from all the meds he has had and they sent him home with the good stuff so I think he is quite comfortable.
$7,200 for that bracelet! You are paying for the Cartier name. There’s not even one diamond in it. Although I’m sure it’s 18K gold, it is thin and certainly not worth $7,200.
Today I’m wearing one of my spring favorites: Seville a l’Aube. My 100 ml. bottle is getting low (I did a lot of swapping from this one), so I’ll have to decide when it’s time to get a backup. Anyone know of any bargains currently available?
Farouche, I always check Fragrancenet, BeautyHabit and Beauty Encounter because you just never know. I also go to these sites through eBates because I usually get $ back, anywhsre from 1% to 6%.
definitely check fragrancenet…I believe I saw it there recently for under sixty dollars….
Thank you both! (I just remembered to check back for any answers.)
Ahhhhhh! I am wearing about a million different things today: Rose Flash, Kerosene’s Pretty Machine, Imaginary Author’s The Soft Lawn, etc. etc.
This is because in Chicago, the guys who have been running Merz Apothecary for years opened a fancy shave shop with TONS of niche and indie perfumes. as we perfumers know, Chicago woefully lacks in niche outside of Barney’s. The name of the store is Q Brothers, and it’s right next to Merz in Lincoln Square! It’s amazing, lots of wonderful stuff: Amouage, L’Artisan, Kerosene, Rodin, Andy Tauer, Diptyque, Santa Maria Novella, Histoires de Parfum, et al…
I spoke with the owner himself and he is so excited for his new venture, and I promised to spread the word! Midwest perfumeys, please visit!!!! 🙂
Oh no, Robin I didn’t mean to advertise! Sorry, I have absolutely no financial stake in this company outside of wanting to bring joy to fellow perfumistas!
Oh, that’s not advertising, no worries!
Osmanthus Oolong today.
Today I wore and loved Olympic Orchids Cafe V. I immediately got a compliment from my coworker when she said it smelled like someone had really good coffee as we were waiting for the elevator together. She soon realized it was me and leaned in and said, “Mmm vanilla.” I also enjoyed it quite a bit all day. I get a mix of vetiver, coffee, vanilla, and cream with a mildly sweet woody aspect. One of my faves of Ellen’s.
