April Fools! What fragrance are you wearing to celebrate?
I'm wearing Dude d'Oud by Cowabunga Oud. (Well, I'd wear it if I had some, really! But I'm settling for a dab of Chanel Misia.)
Reminder: this Friday, 3 April, is Chanel TNG: wear something by perfumer Olivier Polge. If you don't have anything by Olivier Polge, do feel free to wear an older Chanel fragrance, or skip it altogether.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

On Monday I packed up some smellies and held a little “Show and Smell” at work about my obsession with perfume. I think I might even have inspired some purchases. The most popular ones seemed to be: Rochas Man (the clear winner!), Premier Figuer, Tea for two, Wonderwood, Midnight in Paris, Divin’ Enfant and my scent for today Bendelirious. There’s a very sophisticated, classic perfume here, but it just can’t quite get past that irreverent, cheery cherry lollipop note. I love it, and breathing it in makes me happy!
Bendelirious is my happy perfume, too!
And somehow oddly appropriate for April Fools Day as well…
Another Bendelirious fan here! I have made quite a dent in my decant. It’s sweet and chipper but offbeat enough to be interesting.
Yay! Isn’t it great when your coworkers and friends are interested? Just now my coworker/friend came over to ask me some questions. Such a pleasure to be able to share what you enjoy.
They were really enthusiastic – there were moments when I couldn’t get a word in edgeways! I’d intended it to be about 30, 45mins max. An hour and a half later we were still at it! Much better than work though. And there may be a couple of budding perfumistas amongst them. I of course consider it my duty to help them along…
Yes. definitely your duty. 🙂
I think a lot of people would be interested to know there is more out there, esp. if they could sniff it right away. I’ve often though it would be fun to open my own “osmotheque” at my library and let people smell and learn, and then charge $1 for a good squirt to wear away. I’m not sure the board would approve…. 😉 But it’s really cool that you shared with your co-workers.
I love this idea! Good for you!
I’ve found those that are not into perfume as we are, are simply amazed at creations like Tea for Two or Premier Figuer..
They’re only used to department store scents.
I should try this too!
This has to be one of the funniest and cleverest ideas I’ve read!
I might just do this with some friends, who all individually have commented on my perfume obsession, and have a tea. Thank you for the brilliant idea!
Love that. I did a show and smell with an old friend who professed to not being much of a perfume person… Her favorites? Lipstick Rose, Timbuktu, and Mohur….. She lives in New York so I made her a map of the niche perfume shops (included Bergdorfs)…. It was a lark!
That’s brilliant, Bob! And it’s really a public service to enlighten people’s eyes to real perfume!
I did something a little bit like this. I wanted to give a friend perfume for her wedding. I asked about her preferences and then loaned her eight of my perfumes two months ahead of the wedding to test at her leisure. It was an early December wedding, and her first choice was BK Liaisons Dangereuses. I gave her a travel set of that and also one of my back-up bottles of her second choice, vintage Caron Parfum Sacre. I think we both had fun with this experiment.
Scent twins–when I first tried Misia, I enjoyed the first hour, but the drydown was a solo persistent violet. Giving it another go.
For your wallet’s sake will hope the experience repeats itself?
I’m happy to have my hands on a big sample of Misia, and sad to say it’s going to be a pass for me. My wallet is happy, my Chanel loving heart is sad. Overall it’s a nice composition. I can see it being very popular, easy to wear, etc etc. After smelling Misia, I realize that prominent violet is not really my thing, and kind of goes to sugary plastic. Bummer. For me, the violet note in Misia became so powerful and almost fluorescent APPLE smelling. It was a bit overpowering and blocked all the iris and rose. I think the drydown is nice, but not for the cost. It smells like L’AP’s Traversee du Bosphore and AG’s Violette had a little pink baby baby together. I’ve never smelled lipstick rose so I have no comparison there.
interesting you got fluorescent apple! But we share the OD on violet experience–it completely overpowered the rose & iris on me. Best for my wallet (and overstuffed perfume cabinet), though.
I’m a pass on it, too, but am planning on giving it a second chance on Friday. Too much violet and too powdery!
I’m not sure what I’m missing. I sprayed Misia liberally this morning (as liberally as I could from a sample vile). It was really pretty for the first 10 minutes or so, and then poof…gone. Can’t smell a thing!
yikes…vial!
It could be a musk blocking issue? That happens to me sometimes and it makes fragrances get “wavy” or totally disappear for me. It could also be for my nose why I can’t smell any of the rose or iris and only the violet. More money for something else!
Exactly!
Also, ionones are notorious for exhausting the nose’s ability to smell them. You might try a smaller dose. I’m finding it strong enough to dab.
Hmmm…perhaps less is more? Will try again!
My SOTD is Chanel No. 22 — A Thing of Beauty!
Yes it is!
No 22 is a wonderful perfume now that my nose has learned to appriciate it.
One of my absolute favorite scents. I was wearing last week when the weather was more like summer than spring. Today, with cooler temps? No 19!
Wearing No 22 last week, is what I meant to type. Today the weather suited No 19.
SOTD is Eau d’Hermès, not that foolish
🙂
I started with Chamade PdT, but it’s the afternoon here, so I’m enjoying some Noontide Petals now. The first time I tried it I thought the pairing of sparkly flowers with Tauerade was to weird to swallow, but I love it now, I wore it yesterday as well.
I hate April Fools :).
I am not fond of April Fools either…too hard to remember, all day, not to believe anything.
Especially when you’re as gullible as me!
Chamade is wonderful!
SOTD: Private Collection by EL.
The very original one. Loving the cool greeness.
I guess I am fooling myself it’s Spring!
The sun is finally out here. I’m willing to fool myself on that issue too.
I went with Spicebomb today! I still love it!
SOTD Cartier’s La Panthere. It’s lovely on this very windy day.
It’s still cold- and that is no April Fools!
SOTD is Sahara Noir- I am up in the air about this one. Would love others opinions
I ordered my bottle of Terracotta today. Cannot wait
Oh, hope you like Terracotta! The bottle is beautiful and I am liking the scent more with each wearing. 🙂
That means you smell more and more wonderful with each wearing 🙂
I love Sahara Noir, and tend to wear it most often in the winter because it lingers so nicely on wool sweaters and scarfs. I wear it on its own, but also like to use it to emphasize the the incense notes in other fragrances. SN also smells good layered with a rose perfume.
SOTD is the beguilingly beautiful Zelda by EnVoyage. I love this so much- it makes me feel as if I have been rolling around nekkid in a bed of waxy petals!
It’s a wonderful reminder that there is still beauty and joy to be had, even in a dark twisted world.
Happy Hump Day All!
Cuir de Gardenia perfume. I wore it for the first time on my anniversary and it’s bringing back very warm memories of a weekend out of town, in front of a fireplace. Of course, SO didn’t really like this one, but at least *I* have positive associations with it. 🙂
SOTD is Tocca Violette. Keeping with my ladylike spring florals.
I was at a friend’s house one night, and another friend there decided he wanted to light a pillar candles. He couldn’t find a long match to reach the wick, so he lit a paper tissue instead. The flame of course shot up, so he dropped it onto the sauce the candle was on, then picked up the whole assembly and ran into the kitchen, alternating blowing on it and shouting, “Dude! Dude! Dude!” (He also happens to have two master’s degrees in engineering, so theoretically he should know how fire works.) So today for a brief moment, I thought I’d found a perfect scent for him.
SOTD is Bois des Iles.
Argh. One candle on one saucer.
Funny!
Funny how the smartest people can not be very clever with simple things! I am glad nothing burned down.
Great story!
SOTD is Vetiver Tonka. I am not much for April Fools Day, but VT usually sticks around for hours, but either my nose or my skin is playing a trick for me since I need to cram my nose into my wrist to smell anything after only a couple of hours.
Wearing Coromandel today. It’s pretty, but I’m deciding definitely not FB worthy.
In other news, I found out last night that a (newish) friend is also bit of a fumie, as is her mother! New people to explore with!
Wheee! Invite them to our next get together and we’ll suck them in even more 🙂
The perfumista blob! Resistance is futile!
My friend did not resist at all!
ONE. OF. US. ONE. OF. US.
🙂
Heh. Already have. 🙂
Tam Dao today, as I was in the mood to feel zen. This scent has some sort of calming magic to it. Want to spray my sheets with it…
Mmmmmm … Sandalwood 🙂
Exaaaaactly.
A no-brainer for his fool today–after reading the Non-Blonde this morning I went with Papyrus de Ciane.
Just got done reading that-I may have to add this to my sample list. I generally like PG and this sounds like a great hot weather scent!
this fool!!! Not his–although I’ve been there too!
Everyone can be somebody’s fool 🙂
Had to go with Malle’s glorious Eau de Magnolia today and it is, no joke, perfect!
Anne Pliska since it’s still cool enough to wear it
Alas, it’s already too hot here to don AP, but I love her anyway! You smell wonderful! 🙂
Wearing Etat Tom of Finland.
I thought about going to Lush or Arabian Oud but then I remembered that I had been meaning to look for the new Mugler, A*Men Ultra Zest. I found it at the House of Fraser on Oxford Street, tried it, and bought it. It’s really good on a blotter though I haven’t tried it on my skin yet, but obviously I’m expecting great things, and the bottle is tremendous.
I’m also in an ELDO — the brand seems kind of April Fools-y, no? — Jasmine et Cigarette.
Wearing AG Folavril for April Fool’ Day.
Oh, perfect!
I haven’t managed to smell that one.
I’m wearing Yesterday, from Margot Elena’s Tokyo Milk Dark Fate & Fortune line. I have several from Tokyo Milk Dark, and like them. I don’t own any of the standard Tokyo Milk line. I also own a couple of Lollias and a couple of Love & Toast. Generally I like the Lollias, but dislike the Love & Toast line. I haven’t tried any of the Library of Flowers line. Any opinions?
I don’t care for Love and Toast, but I do like Library of Flowers. All of their shower gels are great. My favorite summer perfumes from that line are Willow and Water and Arboretum. Both are safe for work. The True Vanilla smells amazing on my 18 year old neighbor. It’s a twist on Shalimar with vanilla and bergamot.
I had never heard of those, so just looked them up – I want to try all of them! I’ll have to find somewhere that stocks those as I am very curious now.
Continuing Chanel week with the incomparable No 19. Sometimes I forget how much I love this one. On a flight later today so keeping it close.
No. 19 is so great for travel – I’ve noticed that sillage is fairly close (at least with what I own), so you just smell cool and collected to anyone who happens to be sitting beside you, without forcibly intruding on other people.
You can never go wrong with no. 19 – wore this yesterday.
No 19 is my choice for today, too. Nothing foolish about it; it’s perfect for a cool spring day.
I’m wearing and loving! Seville a l’Aube which I just received from a generous swapper via NST.. delighted with it and expect to run through this decant.
Great Spring scent!
I looove Seville a l’Aube! You smell woooonderful!
I was just browsing fragrancenet (a very dangerous habit!) and saw some good deals on L’Artisan, including I believe Seville a l’Aube.
Yes, I know and that one is in the shopping cart!
SOTD is April Aromatics Ray of Light. Because: April! POW lemons at the open, now calmed down. Very sunny fragrance.
You know how I said that April was a month of no trolling E-Bay for vintage perfume and not buying bottles of anything? Well, it’s the first of the month and I have already failed. Trolled E-bay and bought vintage Bal a Versailles PdT. I’m kicking myself right now. Now since I have a large collection of it now, I think that I will wear Bal a Versailles today in all of it’s skanky goodness.
Great choice!! I luuurrrve Bal. You smell mahvelous. 🙂
Ditto! I have enough BaV to last my next life. But the vintage of it is incomparable.
I love Bal too. You smell divine.
I have a small decant of vintage Bal a Versailles PdT and can certainly understand wanting more! Great stuff.
Truth be told, Bal in PdT is rarer than hen’s teeth and it’s expensive when you can find it. But I managed to score a few bottles in the past two months. The EDC seems to be the most reasonably priced.
I have a 4 oz vintage edc of splash and it is almost as powerful as the edt I got in 2005. They both smell nearly identical! I can only imagine what vintage extrait or the pdt smell like.
Wearing Calyx, from my new bottle courtesy of a wonderful NST swapper! I’ve gotten several perfume packages in the mail this week: an embarrassment of riches!
Oh yes, me too. Aint it great?
Yes, Sijini!!
I have meetings all the day long today. Boo. So I’m going with my standby: Bottega Veneta. I don’t really do April Fools. Life is tricky enough as it is. Cheers!
BV is a wonderful stand-by. Good choice!
Maybe Spellbound..I always think of that Paula Abdula song when I see this EL scent. LOL, I had that album. For a giggle, I had to watch Rush Rush, that music video she did with Keanu Reeves…LOL.
ELDO is developing a solid perfume around a sardine note. The top of the tin rolls back with a key. Rumour has it that the perfume will be named Poisson Ubiquitous (or PU for short)
🙂
LOL.. I wouldn’t put it past them.
The image Robin posted at the top is an early prototype for the packaging label, and it does look like there will be a lilac top note. The ad campagne will feature several sardines with lilacs tied to their backs swimming around in a heart shaped bowl while an old guy with a cracker spread with mustard tries to capture them.
Ha!
Perfect!
Today, following the strong review on Bois de Jasmine, I’m wearing Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her. I’ve worn it a few times now, and it’s been growing on me for another easy everyday scent that’s not too generic or ‘pretty’ . Though to launch it under the ad campaign it got does feel like an April Fool’s joke.
I tried to get my twin boys (not at all identical) to dress up as each other for play school today – trade lunch bags, coats, shoes, glasses, etc – and one was totally keen, while the other got very upset about it all. So we didn’t end up playing any tricks. They had a hard time understanding the difference between telling a joke and playing a trick. Not so easy to explain….
What a sweet story! How confusing to be young. 🙂
My favorite author for my preschool aged boys was Robert Munsch. My boys LOVED his stories… Thin paperbacks that travel well full of fun pictures… Anyway, your story reminded me of his book “We Share Everything.” Other favorites are Murmel, Murmel; Paperbag Princess;” I of course read and cried reading “Love you Forever,” but that one is really a salve to mums of boys… My boys just thought it was funny that I couldn’t read it without tearing up!
My husband first read that in the book store, standing there with tears streaming down his cheeks. As my son got older I would have to have him read it as soon as I started crying.
I had my boys the year after my died. Someone gave us this book as a baby present. I wasn’t familiar with it….. I couldn’t even read it through to the end the first time, I was crying so much. Now we stick to Angela who flies the plane!
Oops, the year after my mom died.
So so sorry about your mom! Your twins might really like “We share everything….”
I’ll have to find it. Thanks for the recommendation!
I think that would be hysterical – especially because they are not identical! One day they’ll understand how funny that would be…probably in just a couple years!
I like BBR as an everyday scent as well. Will have to check out the review you on BdJ.
Another twin mom here, with very non-identical girls. That would be hilarious, but a concept that might not make sense to them yet.
Just read the review and realized I have never sniffed Rhythm – was getting it confused with the Beat. I’ll have to try the next time I’m at Sephora.
Marshall’s has the 100 mL for $39.99. I don’t go there often but I keep being tempted. I do have a large decant, thanks to the wonderful F.
Yes, I found the 50 ml on sale at winners for $30. It likely would have gone lower but there was only one so I figured I would pick it up.
Wearing Kenzo Flower Oriental.
Chanel no. 5 EdT, which was also my bedtime scent last night.
Happy April all!
Lovely choice.
Thank you! It’s a pleasure to smell myself today. 😉
I am going to put this on tonight when I get home after my meeting. It will make me feel human again. I love No 5 edt!
It is so human and real! Hope your meetings are successful 🙂
I’m wearing Profumi del Forte Roma Imperiale, that I got in the swap. Really pretty and just my style but softer than I usually wear.
Oh, and to everyone who responded to my weekend inquiry about taking up running again, I decided to go with the Couch to 5K program and some yoga classes I found on Groupon. Thanks to all who chimed in, it was helpful.
I wore that yesterday! I like it. It is very soft and pretty.
One of my Top 5. So nice to see that someone is spreading the love! 🙂
SOTD is SSS’s Tabac Aurea. Hands down my favorite tobacco scent—not too sweet like some cherry pipe tobacco scents, and not too ashy like some cigarette scents… Just dried tobacco leaves, hay, and sweet flowers…
LOVE Tabac Aurea.
My fav tobacco scent too – I only need a tiny dab. It is so rich and complex!
That’s my favorite one from SSS. Last night I discovered that my decant had dried up 🙁 .
mmm that sounds delicious.
mmm that sounds delicious.
My fav SSS, too, not that I’ve tried very many of them yet.
Chanel Coromandel, from a sample swapped in person yesterday. Delightful experiences, both.
My mail carrier commented today about all the little packages he has been delivering for me in the past week. 🙂 I’m wearing No. 19 Poudree from one of those packages and am enjoying it very much.
I got the skunk eye too at our PO this week after both mailing and receiving so many packages from the swap meet.
I go to another town to mail out my swap packages!
I’m wearing Delrae Bois de Paradis today, from a sample. It’s a nice slightly fruity rose on me, but I don’t feel like I need to own it. I think I want more Bois in my Bois de Paradis.
I got BdP in last year’s swap and I also thought it needed more Bois (and less fruit) but I have worn it far more than I thought I would. It kind of grew on me–maybe it will for you, too.
Here’s a trick for BdP: put some on your wrists. wash it off. then dab on a little bit of L’Air du Desert Marocain. It will fix it right up.
Or, you can think of it as “Booze de Paradis”, as it always reminds me of mulled wine (so yes, a winter perfume for me!)
On my way here to post my SOTD, I watched the following and now I’m bawling my eyes out! 🙁
http://kentuckysportsradio.com/basketball-2/willie-cauley-stein-had-a-lunch-date-with-a-special-fan-yesterday/
*This* is why I love Ky. basketball!
SOTD: Guerlain Secret Intention (the name seemed sort of April Fool – ish). I’m trying to decide if I want to keep it.
My HS sophomore just received a recruitment letter from USMA West Point – which he is very seriously considering (although I think he’d rather go to Annapolis). Not sure how I feel about it, except “unsettled” comes to mind…
SOTD is Penhaligon’s Violetta, for calm.
One of my college room mates dated a guy from west point. The only reason to go there is to get a high paying corporate job after your first “out” offer, I think, 5 years? Apparently corporate american puts a high price on people they don’t think will be corrupt, so that’s a good thing. Usually they protect the officers, but things can get kind of nutty anyway. It pays to do your research about what kind of time they must serve when they are done. This friend’s SO had to go to Somalia back in the day for a short tour. A military decision is not taken lightly, right?
SOTD= Oriza L. Legrand Miguet Fleuri. This is definitely my favorite LOTV fragrance at the moment, (after Diorissimo, of course) because this lasts for hours, alternating between a sort of sharp bright LOTV, and a sweeter, softer LOTV +other sorts of blossoms for a while, back and forth. Right now we are in a sweeter softer phase, at 8+ hours! Wonderful…
I need to try this one.
Wearing Lavanila Vanilla Grapefruit. It’s another one that is good in most weather – sweet, but not too sweet that it can’t be worn in the heat. I just grabbed the first thing that seemed wearable – another late night with an upset child. Not sick any more, so not sure what it was all about, but she did NOT want to go back to sleep.
I love the smell of pistachio, and someone here recommended Pistachio Brulee, so I picked up a bottle at Urban Outfitters last night. It’s delicious! Nothing sophisticated, but it smells WAY better than the $18 price tag (for 1 oz.) would have you believe.
Three sprays of Rose Anonyme this morning and now I’m enjoying the deep and musky dried red roses and oud dry down. This perfume is beautiful.
A package just arrived from STC with a bunch of different Shalimar/flanker samples in there that I will be sending to my cousin in law who we stayed with in Florida. I also threw in a sample of Wit for her to try. I hope she finds something she likes.
I also splurged out and got samples of T’aif, Sunshine and Attar Tawaf for myself.
Started with Amouage Dia but that wasn’t doing it so I added some Ubar. It was a good day.
I really think you should have put some Jubilation on top of that as well 😉
LOL, it didn’t occur to me to find an April Fools perfume – great choice, Robin! I think I’d put ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette in that category, but I can never wear it for very long.
My mini of Chanel Misia arrived, so that’s what I’m wearing. It’s nice but smells more like a Prada than a Chanel to me, i.e., more artificial powdery musk. I’ll find occasions to wear it, but a mini is the right amount for me. It makes me long for more soulful roses, like YSL Rive Gauche.
To paraphrase Deva’s lovely sentiment, I had a day filled with much ‘beauty and joy to be had.’ The weather was glorious, sunshiney and warm, perfect for a springtime jaunt. At a noontime piano/violin concert, I alternated between being transfixed by the pianist’s nimble fingers and mesmerized by the view of the park directly across the street, where birds periodically fluttered and soared, engaged in their own ‘flights of fancy,’ the theme of the first piece. Was their winged harmony my imagination, or was it their response to the music they could ‘hear’ through the large expanse of glass that separated us? I don’t know, but it was delightful! Lunch with good friends, and a walk through Macy’s Flower Show (I inhaled and never wanted to exhale!), completed the afternoon. The scent that accompanied me was Guerlain’s long d/c Meteorites, almost, but, not quite a violet soliflore – iris and heliotrope are there, too, and a bit of green, but mostly it is soft, powdery violet. My favorite ‘makeup’ scent, ladylike, almost genteel, which is just what I wanted to be today.
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
The reason I’m marrying Olivier Polge.
Hahaha, Miss H! When’s the big event?
Sounds like a beautiful reason. ; )
