Wednesday scent of the day 2/18

Posted by Robin on 18 February 2015 148 Comments

red hots

Happy Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! I missed it already so I'll have breakfast again later, for lunch. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Parfumerie Generale Un Crime Exotique.

Reminder: 2/20 will be One Hit Wonder Friday: wear something that is the only fragrance you really like by the brand, with partial credit for a fragrance that is the only one made by the brand.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

That bottle, though! Someone on NST compared it to a stack of dishes in the sink and that’s all I can see any more.

My Sample Stash raid was highly successful today! I plucked out Chanel Bois de Iles from a kind swapper (tipping my hat to AnneS!) and Holy Mary Mother of God! This must be what heaven smells like <3 <3 <3

I'm sure I'm the last one in the planet to try this, but I have never been too tempted by anything "Chanel." It's not a brand that seems to fit me but oh BOY! was I wrong wrong wrong!

This went right to the top of my list, along with Onda. I am dreaming big dreams with these two mythically lovely scents :)

Thank you for the inspiration! I was feeling very unmotivated! I, too, raided the sample stash and chose Bel Respiro, which is lovely. I didt think I liked Chanel that much until I tried Les Exclusifs; there are some AMAZING ones!!! We smell goooooooood.

Bois de Iles is so wonderful. I wish the edt lasted longer – a few sprays are gone on me in an hour. Does anyone have the parfum? I’m curious how the sillage and lasting power is with that.

Have you tried SSS Champagne de Bois? It’s similar to BdI but less expensive. (I may need both, so that’s possibly not a help to you overall.)

I heard that they were comparable and I have to dig through “Mt Sample” as someone called it recently ,to look for it. SSS is one of my favorites “houses” and I have 3 of the 17ml bottles.

I do believe I have a sample of CdB, but the trick is locating it.

I have the current formulation parfum. It’s richer and fuller than the edt, lasts about six hours on me, but sillage is not huge, it’s more of an intimate perfume, but so gorgeous up close.

I have Champagne de Bois as well. Both are beautiful but CdB has more of an Australian sandalwood note to my nose. If I could only have one I’d choose Bois des Iles.

Deva: I’m so glad that you enjoy the BdI !!! I’m always happy when a swap enables. What did I send? I have both the edt and the extrait, so I can send you some of each if you need to make up your mind. I owe you anyway, right? So…. the edt and extrait are different enough that you should make an informed decision. :-) :-)

Hi, you Master Enabler you! You sent me the edt version which inspired big BIG love on first sniff. You don’t “owe” me diddlysquat but if you want to off-load some BdI, who am I to say “no”?

When I get my dogs kibble prepared, she sits there very politely, but she is so excited her teeth chatter and her whole body quivers. Now you know what happens to me when I get a whiff of this gorgeous scent!

Why it took me so long to test this out, I really don’t know. It practically leapt into my hand when I approached my sample stash today. Oh MY!

I love to “shop at home” and rediscover things that I haven’t worn in a long time. At the back of my closet I found a wool sweater, an old favorite, that I haven’t worn in at least 2 years. (NO, I don’t believe in purging my closet! LOL)
To go with that I selected Spicebomb that i also haven’t worn in a long time. It’s great to spend a day with old favorites.

Seeing the image of red hots and reading about eating ice cream for breakfast had me scratching my head a bit. Confused! Clearly, I need more tea.

Have had an easy week thus far. Monday was a hol and yesterday wfh, so I only have 3 days in the office :D
Was in a “whatever” mood today so I threw on Rudis by Nobile 1942. It’s a sort of oddball day for me and the fragrance plus my outfit seem at odds, but… whatever… ice cream and red hots… *plink*

Red hots = scent of the day, yes!

Ice Cream = it is Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast day to honor / support children with cancer, lost to cancer, fighting cancer, etc. The family that started it lost a child who loved ice cream for breakfast.

I understood that the red hots were in relation to the sotd, but it was funny seeing a picture of that and then reading about ice cream for breakfast.

I didn’t know that ice cream/ breakfast day was a thing. Wonderful back story for it. :)

I’m wearing Smell Bent’s Monaco-Dependent for the first time. I really like it. I’ve been looking at the Smell Bent travel sprays that I have accumulated to decide if I need any of the 1.7 oz sprays. I think I will continue with the 4 ml sprays ($7.00!) for the time being. I did notice that they have .5 oz perfume oil roll-ons ($20.00) for a few of my favorites, so I might go that route. Anyway, I put on the Monaco-Dependent, and one of the cats that was on the bed went crazy. He grabbed my arm and started licking. Then he acted as if I had given him some catnip and was rolling on my bed as if on a catnip high. It was so funny. The other two cats on my bed did not react in the same way.

SOTD is CdG Series Red: Harissa. It is so contrary in the best way possible!

Bumbed into Carven Vétiver (the latest one in green lacquer bottle) on my way home. It is more balsamic than any other vetiver I have ever tried, must be the benzoin. Very lush and well rounded, perfect for winter.

I’m wearing Pacifica French Lilac (FL) with a tiny bit of vanilla perfume oil from the health food store to smooth some of the FL’s sharpness. Vanilla truly is the salt of perfumery (borrowed that from Ayala Moriel via NST).

SOTD Oriza Marion-Nous. This has a little soapy period I am not too fond of couple hours in, but that does n’t last long, and basically I feel like I am trailing petals all day long as I wear this. I like this more and more as my sample creeps toward empty. Then what will I do?

I wanted something cheap and cheerful on this frickin’ freezing morning, so I’m in Vince Camuto.

And here’s a “thread jack”: Can y’all recommend some good bath products? I’m interested in bubbles and/or a great smell and/or hydrating (this time of year, all I want to do is sit in the warm bath, which I know is drying, but gosh it feels good). Nothing too expensive (think Lush price range rather than Chanel). I’m looking at some of the Lush “bubbleroon” things, but before I pull the trigger, I thought I’d poll this trusty crowd. Anything on Etsy or other smaller vendors I should be checking out?

Lush is always my go-to for bath treats.
The bubbleroons smell amazing. I recommend Rose Jam or Yuzu&Cocoa if gourmand is your thing (I love it.).
If you want hydration though, go for their bath melts instead!

If you love Rose Jam you may be happy to know that Lush has released a shampoo bar called Jason and the Argan Oil with that scent. It’s part of a collection of six new shampoo bars and I can’t make up my mind which one to try. I’ve never used a shampoo bar before but they sound interesting.

Yes!!! :D I saw them in the store! It smells amazing. So does Honey I washed my hair.
I too have not tried the bars (it just seems really hard to lather up and too drying, like how soap bars tends to be harsher than liquid) and they apparently don’t have samples. But I think I might cave and get one soon. Maybe the honey…more moisturising comparatively?

I love their shampoo bars! I use their basic cinnamon bar and it has a great lather which was unexpected. I particulalrly like their bars for travel because as they are not a liquid I don’t have to worry about the TSA regulations and one shampoo bar lasts quite a long time.

I think the cinnamon soap/shampoo is called New? I really love the smell and how it lathers. It also lasts a long time. The issue I had with it is the way it sort of melts a bit on the side of the bath, or in its soap dish, and that red color that gets everywhere…

I just finished up a Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds bubble bar from Lush last night. I used a quarter of it per bath but I’m sure you could divide it even further. It yields absolute mounds of long lasting bubbles. Water turns a pleasant dark blue and the scent is a heavenly blend of frankincense and cinnamon.
I also very much like their Green bubbleroon.

I love EO bath products; I often troll Marshall’s/TJMaxx for them. They make some lovely scented shower gels that aren’t too drying, and if you like rose, look for Rose Chamomile.

I like Neutrogena “Rain Bath” original – it has a nice deep, herbal, amber fragrance for the winter, it’s later is wonderful, and it leaves my skin very soft.

So true. I love that Rainbath smells fabulous while using it, but the scent disappears quickly after so it doesn’t interfere with my perfume choices.

I like that too – sometimes I think of my shower fragrance as my first scent for the day – like a nose appetizer. And then I’m ready for whatever I want to wear for the morning, etc. I like to warm up my nose. I only occasionally like for the shower scent to linger.

    Thanks for the culinary inspiration!

I think I might grind up some red hots and throw it in the ice cream maker.

Not quite sure what I should use as the base. Maybe chocolate. Ideas anyone ?

SOTD is No 19 EDT. So perfect! I wanted leather today, but Cuir de Lancôme seemed too smooth, Cuir Cannage too sweet … No 19 is refined and austere and I love it :)

      Such gorgeous stuff.

I like the EdP too, but it’s rosier. More friendly, less austere… but the vintage EdT is basically perfect. I’ve always been puzzled as to why I didn’t like the parfum (yes, even vintage) nearly as much, but then I realized that it’s much stronger on the vetiver, which is not a favorite note for me. So. Vintage EdT and current EdP, please. :)

SOTD Bois des Iles (Hello Deva!). It’s my favorite Chanel by far, for once a 75 ml bottle doesn’t feel too big. It’s one of those scents that are innoffensive and never wrong- but still very beatiful.
After yoga class and shower I’ll probably put on something heavier, maybe SHL 777 Oumma again.

Un Crime Exotique is one of my very favorite scents! I’m so glad someone else appreciates its cinnamon goodness.

I am sampling Charenton Macerations Christopher Street today. It opens with a big blast of citrus with spice and then there’s this sort of sweaty leather note. I have enough leathers so I’ll probably pass on this one.

I’m trying Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil again today and I’m not really sure what to make of it. It smells like mentholated vegetables at the moment. The last time I wore this I sprayed some on my neck. By the end of the day it had faded completely but when I went to wash my face before bed I was struck by how wonderful my face wash suddenly smelled. It took a moment to remember that I had sprayed my neck with perfume. No Hermes face wash for me after all.

I was on the bus going to house calls for most of the day. Because of the storms, the public transportation has been on a somewhat creative timetable – it’s the first time I have ever seen my smartphone bus tracker keep increasing the time of bus arrival. After waiting in the cold for 25 minutes when bus 2 finally arrived today it was so crowded that not all the standing people had something to hold onto, we stayed upright by squishing together in our padded winter garb. needless to say, the busses are incredibly filthy and we were all breathing eachother’s used air everyone’s immune systems got a workout.
I saw the new bottle of Indochine on the table when I got home and sprayed generously. I’m thinking that it smells very sandalwoody.
