Tuesday scent of the day 12/23

Posted by Robin on 23 December 2014 109 Comments

Cacharel shirts

It's Tuesday, and it's Chet Baker's birthday. What perfume are you wearing?

I'm wearing Cacharel Anaïs Anaïs, in a relatively modern (it's probably 5 years old or so) version of the Eau de Toilette.

Reminder: on Friday 12/26, for Boxing Day, wear a perfume you received as a present, or have given as a present, or that you wish someone would give you as a present.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

For anyone who has an extra few minutes to spare today, here's Chet Baker singing one of my absolute favorites, My Buddy.

Happy Day Before the Day Before Christmas, to all who celebrate :)

I chose CK Reveal for today. This is one of Soon-To-Be-Mr. Nebbe’s favorites on me, and i love it too.

I have a bunch of last minute purchases to make, and not sure what most of them will be. But! I just realized that I can shop after lunch, and that my lunch will be in perfect shopping spot. Win!

Like that one, too, somewhat surprisingly, as I’m not a big tuberose fan. (Also never going to buy a By Kilian bottle either – though I like the travel sets and the plain re-fill bottles for a comparative bargain.)

That was one of the first tuberose perfumes I really fell in love with. Now I almost never wear it (I wear Sweet Redemption much more often) but I was so taken with the coconut in it.

These days the refills are actually a lot cheaper than other niche fragrances. I love this one and A Taste of Heaven, which I’m guessing you quite like as well.

Been craving rose and musk recently, so I’m wearing SSS Rose Musc. It’s very pretty, but I’d like more musk… or a more musk-sensitive nose.

Have you tried Kiehl’s musk? It’s pretty straightforward and a bit skanky, but I think it would be good for layering.

MdO’s Tubereuse over remnants of Carnal Flower from last night. It’s in the 70s here, and I hadn’t worn either in too long. Neither feels very holiday themed, but I’m hanging out in the hospital with my grandma, so a tiny bit of BWF is cheerful.

Hope all of you who celebrate Christmas have a wonderful holiday and those of you celebrating Hanukkah are having a bright holiday as well :D

It’s *probably* against the law to randomly spritz men with cologne, no matter how much nicer they would smell. It’s the only thing keeping me from arming myself with a bottle of L’Instant Pour Homme and lurking in the local Starbucks or bookstore.

LOL! Men tend to discount the seductive power of repeated showering with a good soap and matching aftershave. They harbor the fantasy that inside every modern woman lurks a cave girl yearning to swoon at their manly odors. It takes repeated demonstrations before most of them really believe the effectiveness of alternatives. Such odd creatures.

Nothing so far today, but there is a trace of something gorgeous wafting off my fleece pullover. Could it be extreme extreme dry down from a spray of l’elephant from two weeks ago? If ever there were a perfume that lingered for weeks, l’elephant would be it!

I’m planning to wear Amouage Lyric later today – visiting a very sniffy 91 year old gent later who wants to smell Lyric Woman. I’ve tried to get him into some high end frags – he is a sandalwood FREAK – but so far he only wants his beloved Caswell and Massey Sandalwood cologne.

I have a minor cold — literally started feeling a tickle in my throat JUST as I was signing off work for a week-long vacation last night. I swear this happens to me every year! I still wear perfume when I’m sick though. Just put on some Flower by Kenzo — it’s strong at first but by the time I get on a plane in several hours it will be in the nice soft powdery vanilla stage, which I love.

First day of my last week of vacation today and I’m still in the t-shirt I wore to bed. When I do get ready for my day I’m going to try another Possets sample, called Cadmium Red. It’s been described as a combination of roses and Red Hots, and I’m always looking for a spicy rose.

Just put on some Philosophy Snow Angel hand lotion, which is supposed to smell like “sweetly fallen snow.” Not sure about that, but it is a good hand lotion and it is sweet!

Oh, how I loved the original Anaïs Anais. I used to wear it faithfully as a teen. Well, this is the 2nd day of my two-week vacation ( I am a school counselor and we are out for the winter break), and I am battling a bug or something. Hopefully I will feel better by Thursday.
Even though I am feeling under the weather, I still have to have a fragrance on. So, I dug into my sample box and chose Pink Vetiver by Jo Loves. I don’t know if its my cold or what, but this is a little bit too spicy and peppery for me. This is probably something my brother would like but wouldn’t wear it because of the name. Masculine scent but not a masculine name, IMO.

Wearing Lolita Lempicka. Even though it’s summer solstice here, we (almost) always have heavy and long rains during Christimas, which is sort of nice, considering all the Northern hemisphere-based dishes that we tend to cook. Maybe not so nice for those who come here to escape winter and are looking for tropical summer weather, though.

I’m wearing Orchid Noir by Note Fragrances. I got a 5ml sample in a giveaway. I feel like it’s a dupe of something, but I can’t quite put my finger on it… I want to say it’s like a toned-down Black Orchid, but I haven’t smelled Black Orchid in a long time… I also admit the name could be influencing me a bit.

Aomassai from Parfumerie Generale – it’s a really well done nutty gourmand. It’s the only one I own from PG but I would really like about 10 more of them.

I let my daughter and husband pick out my fragrance today… it’s Black Orchid Voile de Fleur, such a friendly white floral.

Shopping finished; wrapping not so much. Also, I have to finish crocheting (SSHHH!!) a Despicable Me Minion hat for my daughter, a soft bulky rug for my mother, and a simple roll-brim hat for my MIL. I hope to get the hats at least done by tomorrow night; the rug, which is the simplest, is almost done anyway.

So ambitious. I am exhausting just reading. (But then I don’t knit.)

MIL hat is DONE. And looks cute.

Daughter’s hat is half done. Mom’s rug is about 75% done. I will finish!!!

Le Labo Vanille 44 today. I put it on this morning, having been woken up by my child a half hour earlier than my alarm, and it was dark and kind of wet and rainy out. I thought it would cheer me up on this yucky day, but then the morning with child and day at work were both kind of awful, so the perfume hasn’t been able to help as much as I’d hoped.

Oh, Vanille 44 would be perfect. Sorry it hasn’t boosted the day as much as it should have! Some days no perfume can fix.

I am wearing Soivohle’s Amun Re-Tears of Ra, and reveling in it. I enjoyed it in the summer when I got it but on this cold rainy December day it is simply gorgeous. And really lasting – 8 hours and counting so far.

I don’t know why I thought this was too expensive to get a full bottle of. 50 ml for $160? It’s spendy but I’ve done worse. I wonder if it was the 50 ml that put me off? Or if I worry about the lifespan of a handmade perfume like this?

Today, Une Rose de Kandahar called out to me so is my SOTD/SOTE. I’m loving this more and more each time I wear it.

Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee, which smells very much like their wonderful Noël candle.

Yesterday was unending woods and incense, so today I needed something completely different. I chose Iris Silver Mist. It was perfect.
