If you have a free moment, do tell us your fragrance of the day.
I'm wearing Czech & Speake Dark Rose.
Reminder: this Friday, 12/12, wear something from Christian Dior. On 12/19, we'll do De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Shown is the Czech & Speake Edwardian Toothbrush Holder in Chrome, £216.
Wow! Pretty fancy (and expensive!) toothbrush holder.
Today’s scent is PHI Un Rose de Kandahar.
True Love from first sniff! Financially, a FB was a poor choice, but perfumista-wise, it was a most EXCELLENT one! 😉
You smell great! I am still trying to decide about the Explorer set. I really only want 2, not 3. By the time I decide Phi will have sold out again, LOL…
The perfumes are not cheap either, but they’re cheaper than the toothbrush holder 🙂
Go for it! You can always gift the third one you don’t really want, right? 😉
SOTD is Tuscany per Donna.
I should dig out my sample, haven’t smelled that in years!
SOTD is Lancôme Climat. And wow, that is an expensive toothbrush holder!!
Their bathroom fittings are not cheap 🙂
Yesterday’s comments inspired me to wear Nuit Etoilee.
And of course you smell great!
SOTD is Chanel Coromandel and yeah, expensive for a toothbrush holder but still kinda cool. 🙂
It is. My $6 cup from Pier One works pretty well though 😉
SOTD is Jubilation 25, which I adore.
I spent a good portion of the day sniffing Poison as well. I found an evaporated decant and I squeezed the last drop onto a blotter and I love it. Someone used to wear it around me and I can’t remember who it was. Anyway, I need at least a new decant. And tape it!
SOTD: Unknown! Just picked an unidentified sample with label missing from a bunch in my desk at work. Hoped it’ll reveal itself by the end of the day, but it didn’t. It is a modern neroli-based EDP definitely something I never bought and probably never sniffed since. Does it count?
Robin, may I make a suggestion or rather a wish? Just became obsessed with the Outlander series and keep wondering what the main characters would wear nowadays (especially Jamie <3 ). Could you do a poll about it? Old vs modern in Outlander or somesuch.
Claire was wearing L'Heure Bleue when she disappeared and that's old for the 2nd WW but they didn't churn fragrances readily at the time. Despite the fascination with Claire, I doubt many women would wear L'Heure Bleue today. The author is pretty descriptive of the different aromas of herbs and flowers the characters display at times.
Please Robin, it could be such fun! 🙂
Have you figured out what you’re wearing yet? 🙂
Not quite – my best guess would be either “Knot” by BV or D&G’s new “Femme Intense”. The latter is intensely boring, the former only mildly so 😀
I had no idea Outlander was a series – I will check it out! I enjoyed the first novel and probably blushed the entire time reading it – not so much for the sexual content itself – but because my mother-in-law who is 50 years my senior had recommended it! I might just know her secret for staying young at heart!
It is more than a book series – it’s now a film series as well, at least Outlander is now a series. If you finished “Outlander” (also known as “Cross Stitch” in the UK), the second book is called “Dragonfly in Amber”. Happy reading! 😉
Going on the library list STAT! Will also check out film series. 🙂
Wow…65 holds on 15 copies for a book published in 1992. That’s serious cult status!
Do you think enough people watch it? We didn’t get a great response for the last few TV-related polls we did!
Surely enough people read the books – just check Amazon!
Sampling Soivohle Rosa Sur Reuse and a bit more poured out of my vial than I had intended so I am now surrounded by the most gorgeous scent. Wow. I might need a bottle of this
That’s good stuff.
I am turning into a rose girl this year– first I bought Jardins d’Armide, then Rozy edp (and want the Rozy voile d’extrait), then a travel size of A Rose For Beacon Free, and I am seriously considering this one. If anyone has any other suggestions based on the ones I like, let me know
It *is* good stuff.
Oddly, it reminds me of Une Rose Chypree even though it’s clearly not THE same. There’s something similar in the base, I think.
I’m in a darkish rose too, Lyric Woman. I’m getting near the end of my bottle and was hesitating to wear it, so I finally used a discount and ordered a backup bottle… an early Christmas present to myself.
I’m head over heels in love with Lyric. So beautiful. You smell wonderful.
I wore Lyric yesterday. You smell great, enjoy your bottles!
Loving all the Lyric love here! It’s a gorgeous scent 🙂
That’s a wonderful scent.
Lyric back-up bottle = wise move!
I’m wearing Cardinal and Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. I like this combination; Cardinal seems to go well with floral moisturizers.
And that toothbrush holder…it kinda reminds me of a test tube rack, which could actually be a pretty whimsical alternative (though not something to buy used).
SOTD is Chanel No 5 extrait. I just love this in the winter – It’s a glamorous fragrance for beging stuck at home with the snow.
**PSA** FYI everyone who is interested – fragrance net dot com has a bunch of L’artisan parfumeur fragrances on their site. I totally stumbled upon them yesterday while I was looking for something else. Holy cow! I scored a 100 ml Mimosa Pour Moi for $68!! Braggin here – it’s been hovering on my list to buy for many years now. Anyway, there is a good 25% off coupon too: H T F P 4
Good luck!
Too bad that shipping internationally is so difficult. Congrats on the Mimosa, such a lovely note in fragrance.
Thank you! I’ve hemmed and hawed over it for many years and it was just a great accident! What a deal. I do love mimosa.
Yes, I stumbled on that over Black Friday/Cyber Monday as well – got 100ml of Voleur de Roses, Dzongkha and La Chasse aux Papillons for about $65 a piece.
That’s great – if they also had haie fleurie, I’d have got that too. I didn’t realize that L’AP was becoming so hard to find and that they’d discontinued so many of their frags. Geez – not paying attention is brutal!
Thanks, AnnS – I scurried right over and had similar luck with Hermes Ambre des Merveilles, which has been on MY to-buy list for quite some time. Yay!
Congrats on the L’Ambre, it’s been on my list for awhile, too. I just scored a bottle on Walgreens.com, of all places, for $30 with my points. Now the only Merveilles left on my list is Claire . . . .
Yeah!
I noticed that fragrancenet also has a good number of Amouage scents for sale right now, including some extraits and travel sets. Trying to resist temptation!
God help me I really want a bottle of Beloved, but I’ll have to wait until tax refund time for that!!
I have a bottle of L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse on the way to my home soon (hopefully today) from fragrancenet.
😉 😉 Always happy to enable a good bargain! If I had some more unlimited funds, I’d probably have picked up 3 or 4 of them! NdT is gorgeous! I have two large decants of that, so I’m set.
I want to order a couple things off their site for gifts but fnet seems to take like 3 weeks to deliver anything:p
Just noticed they have Traversee au Bosphore, if anyone is still chasing that one. Discontinued isn’t it?
I bought some things from Fnet yesterday- including La Chasse solid, and Thé pour un ete. (and a backup of to-be heavily reformulated Bandit) Id planned on buying the Piovre Piquant which ive been wanting for ages but someone got to it before i did 🙁
A tiny spray of Aromatics Elixir after reading the perfume shrine post earlier.
I canNOT do AE (it smells like someone urinated into a rose hedge, at least on my skin). But I admire it.
You always create the most fascinating critical descriptions!
The toothbrush holder looks like one of my brush holders (for painting). If you like the look of that, you can get a brush holder like that from an art store for very little money and use it for toothbrushes.
SOTD today (until showering) is the dry down of the Lyric I put on last night. Still sweet, spicy and creamy 18 hours in. I think this is my first really big girl perfume. I have no interest in acquiring other scents after smelling that one. For now. It’s nice to be relieved of my perfume cravings, even if temporarily. Reminds me of when I saw Shindler’s List and was so powerfully moved that really didn’t want to watch another movie for a long time after. Same thing happened when I read “Beloved” by Toni Morrison and didn’t want to read anything else for awhile. For me, that emotionally sated quality is the sign of something really special.
I do that sometimes… when I have been really moved, I just want to ponder on it for some time before replacing the emotional input with something else.
It happens to me too, but more like a feeling of well now what am I supposed to read? (watch?). I want that space to keep enjoying it, but then there is an emptiness wondering what can possibly follow for reading.
Yeah, I put on Lyric last night after reading your comment and could smell it all day. No reason not to wear it again, either. Usually, I like Beloved better, to be honest, but sometimes nothing but Lyric will do.
Happy Wednesday, Everyone! Hope everyone is having a great day! My SOTD is Chanel’s Cristalle. Not feeling all that great today, so was hoping that a Chanel scent would lift my spirits.
Hope you feel better.
Thanks. I do feel a bit better.
Angela’s review of the latest Divine inspired my choice of today which is the extrait version of their original Divine. It’s gorgeous and perfect for a rather dull day at work: It adds some pizzazz to otherwise mundane surroundings!
Wearing Cuir X from La Perfumerie Moderne. Had never heard of this line until recently and I’m really digging it! A really good leather and a great geranium, and a lilac I haven’t tried on skin yet but it’s very realistic on paper.
I love the lilac leather of Desarmant and agree that No Sport is a great geranium. Cuir X is probably my least favorite of the three. It’s a fairly new line so I’m not surprised that you only just heard of it– same perfumer as Parfums d’Empire
Oh, I didn’t realize they were the same perfumer! No wonder I like them — I like almost all the PdE scents too.
Just bought Dior Cuir Cannage and wearing it for the first time today – love it! At first I thought it was too similar to SL Cuir Mauresque to purchase, but after testing it several times I decided it wasn’t, and am very glad to have CC now. It is less leathery and more floral than SL CM.
Interesting. That one is VERY leathery to my nose.
Congrats on the purchase nevertheless!
Interesting! I’ve only sampled it once, but on me, Cuir Cannage is extremely leathery and not sweet at all. I’ll be interested to see if my perception changes on further testing.
I like a floral leather. 🙂 Cuir Cannage is very nice indeed, though instead of buying more than this 5ml decant I have, I feel like stocking up on more Cuir de Lancome.
Wearing Cuir de Lancôme on Keep-it-Simple Wednesday. P.S. My toothbrush holder is a pewter tankard awarded as sailing trophy – although not to me…
Wearing Narciso Rodriguez For Her today. Not feeling great, and everything else in my collection was too much.
Getting lots of musky, sweet berries. Now if i could just go back to bed until Friday, that would be great.
Uh oh…feel better!
I am wearing my sample of Coromandel again, I am not sure if I love it enough to get the FB. It is gone after 4 hours but even in the beginning I wasn’t smelling much , it is strange because I heard that it lasts a lot. Anyways I will wear one of the samples I keep at my desk at work, I see one that is labeled as Vintage Rose, I am going to try that one.
Wow, that is rather fast for that one. I remember it lasting me for at least 9 hours.
Oh yeah, that is a long lasting one on me. I remember last tiem I wore it, my husband could still smell it in the room 8 hours after I sprayed it and I wasn’t even there!
I am thinking maybe they have changed the formulation because it is very fleeting on me
Hopefully not, but signs aren’t looking good…
I don’t know if I already said this before to you or whoever, but a bit dead-ringer (minus much of that whopping rose) for Coromandel is the Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights – the same rich and spicy accords with a sweet patch, but it’s just not as $$$.
Thank you, I see that sometimes on sale at the pharmacy , I will definitely try it.
Cautiously!
SOTD is Jicky in Edt form because I am trying to finish this large decant of it while hoarding a large decant of vintage Jicky.
We were almost scent twins, but I’m hoarding my Jicky sample because I’m afraid to run out!
Jicky is so special!
Wearing Nuit Rouge today (by Antonio Alessandria). I got ALL my bottles I bought recently (and a bunch of free samples) on Monday and I thought maybe I’d try the samples, but nope. Immediately started spraying from my bottles. Although I did get some really interesting samples to try.
Sampling today Rouge Bunny Silhouette and absolutely love the opening and then it is gone! Has anyone else tried this one?
To my nose it’s mainly vetiver, rose and leather, very soft and modern. I’d love to find something like it but that lasts all day, or at least by the time I get to work!
SOTD is Jardins D’Armide by Oriza. It makes me feel like a grande dame from the Belle Époque and is warm and enveloping on this cold day.
You smell great
Wearing MPG Bahiana today. I need to rotate the perfumes I have here at work (husband has migraines, so to be nice, I spritz at work to avoid triggering a headache). Still have mostly summery stuff, which is fine since I live in San Diego, but it is finally cooling off. Trying to finish up this decant, but it doesn’t feel right for today. Oh well, it’ll be gone soon enough – this one is fleeting!
My husband is very sensitive to freshly applied perfume and we carpool together. I usually slip my SOTD into my cargo pants pocket as we leave and then apply at work.
Darling Alahine for this blustery cold day. I smell warm.
Today (and mind you, I have been in love with Alahine for at least four years now) I am finally getting the reference to Bal a Versailles that everybody else seems to mention. Alahine is still definitely less… um, *rococo* and more streamlined, and it’s not nearly the skank level of BaV, but the golden warmth, that seems to be the point of congruence.
Yeah! I love Alahine too- it’s so sunny and rich. I think it smells a lot like BaV, but just not as much in the soup, you know. Now, I also notice that vintage BaV has a better refined skank portion to the point that it barely bothers me at all. Now all I need is for you to see the kissing cousins resemblance to Amouage Memoir Woman to BaV and my work will be complete! 😉
“Not as much in teh soup,” exactly. And yet I don’t love BaV. I like it, I don’t love it.
But Memoir W and BaV? Okay, ‘splain that one to me again…
😀
Last night I was reading the list on NST of 25 rose fragrances every perfumista should Try. The comments section reminded me of Kelly Caleche, my gateway perfume that I wore for years. Wearing it today and it feel like an old friend. It’s so pretty and elegant and is a nice pick-me on a gloomy gray day.
On another note, my daughter borrowed my scarf today. Giving it a good sniff before putting it on, she smiled and told me it smelled like me (have no idea which fragrance I was last wearing when wearing that scarf).
I had insomnia last night. I’ve never been much of a sleeper anyway, but as I go further and further into the end of middle age (that’s my workaround to avoid saying I’m old), I sleep less and less. In any case, sometimes insomnia pays off. I haunted ebay for a while last night and scored a 1.7-oz bottle of Teo Cabanel Meloe for $20.00. Yep, that’s right. Twenty bucks.
In celebration, I’m wearing the last bit of my sample of Meloe today.
Glass half full! 🙂
…and perfume bottle more than half-full!
Holy cow…great deal! But sorry you’re not sleeping.
Another dreary, gray, damp day here. After 2 days of uplifting orange (the lovely L’Ambre des Merveilles from yesterday lasted until this morning’s shower), I needed a different comforting scent and chose SSS To Dream. I rarely wear fragrances with floral notes in winter, but the incense/spices/woods/amber combined with violet and rose make this one an oh, so lovely! winter scent.
Oops! Meant to say, the ‘Elixir’ des Merveilles lasted until this morning . . .
To Dream is really pretty. And not summery-light-floral at all.
I finished off a purse spray of To Dream earlier this year. Very lovely.
Rainy and windy, wearing Alien today, I don’t know why. I have lots of jasmines and my hand just grabbed this one.
Czech and Speake Dark Rose is one of my favorites. My husband gave it to me for my birthday last May and I enjoy wearing it so much.
As for the toothbrush holder, I can only imagine the beautiful bathroom that it would be a part of. Probably all white with beautiful chrome fixtures.
My SOTD is Chanel 1932.
Today I put on some Biehl al02. I like it in the fall and early winter because I detect a stewed fruit smell in it and it makes me think of all of the good fruit that is available this time of year (wide variety of apples, pears).
You smell good!
I would not pay that much if it (the toothbrush holder) had been produced DURING the Edwardian period.
It’s summer where I live but a sudden cold wet day has me reaching for warm clothes and L’Ambre des Merveilles. I have to get my son to the doctor later, and L’Ambre is fabulous on days like this when I need a bit of calm and comfort to get me through. I’m just making myself some coffee and hot buttered toast …
Away from a computer all day, working outside in freezing temperatures on a loading dock. I was so thankful to be wearing Celtic Fire–it was a bit like carrying around my own personal campfire. In the end, even that strong scent dissipated in the cold, but it was lovely for a long time. And once I finally came back inside, I could still smell remnants of it.
