Wednesday scent of the day 12/10

Posted by Robin on 10 December 2014 104 Comments

Czech & Speake Edwardian Toothbrush Holder

If you have a free moment, do tell us your fragrance of the day.

I'm wearing Czech & Speake Dark Rose.

Reminder: this Friday, 12/12, wear something from Christian Dior. On 12/19, we'll do De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Shown is the Czech & Speake Edwardian Toothbrush Holder in Chrome, £216.

Wow! Pretty fancy (and expensive!) toothbrush holder.

Today’s scent is PHI Un Rose de Kandahar.

True Love from first sniff! Financially, a FB was a poor choice, but perfumista-wise, it was a most EXCELLENT one! 😉

You smell great! I am still trying to decide about the Explorer set. I really only want 2, not 3. By the time I decide Phi will have sold out again, LOL…

The perfumes are not cheap either, but they’re cheaper than the toothbrush holder 🙂

SOTD is Jubilation 25, which I adore.
I spent a good portion of the day sniffing Poison as well. I found an evaporated decant and I squeezed the last drop onto a blotter and I love it. Someone used to wear it around me and I can’t remember who it was. Anyway, I need at least a new decant. And tape it!

SOTD: Unknown! Just picked an unidentified sample with label missing from a bunch in my desk at work. Hoped it’ll reveal itself by the end of the day, but it didn’t. It is a modern neroli-based EDP definitely something I never bought and probably never sniffed since. Does it count?

Robin, may I make a suggestion or rather a wish? Just became obsessed with the Outlander series and keep wondering what the main characters would wear nowadays (especially Jamie <3 ). Could you do a poll about it? Old vs modern in Outlander or somesuch.

Claire was wearing L'Heure Bleue when she disappeared and that's old for the 2nd WW but they didn't churn fragrances readily at the time. Despite the fascination with Claire, I doubt many women would wear L'Heure Bleue today. The author is pretty descriptive of the different aromas of herbs and flowers the characters display at times.

Please Robin, it could be such fun! 🙂

Not quite – my best guess would be either “Knot” by BV or D&G’s new “Femme Intense”. The latter is intensely boring, the former only mildly so 😀

I had no idea Outlander was a series – I will check it out! I enjoyed the first novel and probably blushed the entire time reading it – not so much for the sexual content itself – but because my mother-in-law who is 50 years my senior had recommended it! I might just know her secret for staying young at heart!

It is more than a book series – it’s now a film series as well, at least Outlander is now a series. If you finished “Outlander” (also known as “Cross Stitch” in the UK), the second book is called “Dragonfly in Amber”. Happy reading! 😉

I am turning into a rose girl this year– first I bought Jardins d’Armide, then Rozy edp (and want the Rozy voile d’extrait), then a travel size of A Rose For Beacon Free, and I am seriously considering this one. If anyone has any other suggestions based on the ones I like, let me know

I’m wearing Cardinal and Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. I like this combination; Cardinal seems to go well with floral moisturizers.

And that toothbrush holder…it kinda reminds me of a test tube rack, which could actually be a pretty whimsical alternative (though not something to buy used).

SOTD is Chanel No 5 extrait. I just love this in the winter – It’s a glamorous fragrance for beging stuck at home with the snow.

**PSA** FYI everyone who is interested – fragrance net dot com has a bunch of L’artisan parfumeur fragrances on their site. I totally stumbled upon them yesterday while I was looking for something else. Holy cow! I scored a 100 ml Mimosa Pour Moi for $68!! Braggin here – it’s been hovering on my list to buy for many years now. Anyway, there is a good 25% off coupon too: H T F P 4

The toothbrush holder looks like one of my brush holders (for painting). If you like the look of that, you can get a brush holder like that from an art store for very little money and use it for toothbrushes.

SOTD today (until showering) is the dry down of the Lyric I put on last night. Still sweet, spicy and creamy 18 hours in. I think this is my first really big girl perfume. I have no interest in acquiring other scents after smelling that one. For now. It’s nice to be relieved of my perfume cravings, even if temporarily. Reminds me of when I saw Shindler’s List and was so powerfully moved that really didn’t want to watch another movie for a long time after. Same thing happened when I read “Beloved” by Toni Morrison and didn’t want to read anything else for awhile. For me, that emotionally sated quality is the sign of something really special.

Wearing Cuir X from La Perfumerie Moderne. Had never heard of this line until recently and I’m really digging it! A really good leather and a great geranium, and a lilac I haven’t tried on skin yet but it’s very realistic on paper.

I love the lilac leather of Desarmant and agree that No Sport is a great geranium. Cuir X is probably my least favorite of the three. It’s a fairly new line so I’m not surprised that you only just heard of it– same perfumer as Parfums d’Empire

Darling Alahine for this blustery cold day. I smell warm.

Today (and mind you, I have been in love with Alahine for at least four years now) I am finally getting the reference to Bal a Versailles that everybody else seems to mention. Alahine is still definitely less… um, *rococo* and more streamlined, and it’s not nearly the skank level of BaV, but the golden warmth, that seems to be the point of congruence.

Yeah! I love Alahine too- it’s so sunny and rich. I think it smells a lot like BaV, but just not as much in the soup, you know. Now, I also notice that vintage BaV has a better refined skank portion to the point that it barely bothers me at all. Now all I need is for you to see the kissing cousins resemblance to Amouage Memoir Woman to BaV and my work will be complete! 😉

“Not as much in teh soup,” exactly. And yet I don’t love BaV. I like it, I don’t love it.

But Memoir W and BaV? Okay, ‘splain that one to me again…

        😀

Last night I was reading the list on NST of 25 rose fragrances every perfumista should Try. The comments section reminded me of Kelly Caleche, my gateway perfume that I wore for years. Wearing it today and it feel like an old friend. It’s so pretty and elegant and is a nice pick-me on a gloomy gray day.

On another note, my daughter borrowed my scarf today. Giving it a good sniff before putting it on, she smiled and told me it smelled like me (have no idea which fragrance I was last wearing when wearing that scarf).

I had insomnia last night. I’ve never been much of a sleeper anyway, but as I go further and further into the end of middle age (that’s my workaround to avoid saying I’m old), I sleep less and less. In any case, sometimes insomnia pays off. I haunted ebay for a while last night and scored a 1.7-oz bottle of Teo Cabanel Meloe for $20.00. Yep, that’s right. Twenty bucks.

In celebration, I’m wearing the last bit of my sample of Meloe today.

Another dreary, gray, damp day here. After 2 days of uplifting orange (the lovely L’Ambre des Merveilles from yesterday lasted until this morning’s shower), I needed a different comforting scent and chose SSS To Dream. I rarely wear fragrances with floral notes in winter, but the incense/spices/woods/amber combined with violet and rose make this one an oh, so lovely! winter scent.

Oops! Meant to say, the ‘Elixir’ des Merveilles lasted until this morning . . .

To Dream is really pretty. And not summery-light-floral at all.

I finished off a purse spray of To Dream earlier this year. Very lovely.

Rainy and windy, wearing Alien today, I don’t know why. I have lots of jasmines and my hand just grabbed this one.

Czech and Speake Dark Rose is one of my favorites. My husband gave it to me for my birthday last May and I enjoy wearing it so much.

As for the toothbrush holder, I can only imagine the beautiful bathroom that it would be a part of. Probably all white with beautiful chrome fixtures.

    My SOTD is Chanel 1932.

Today I put on some Biehl al02. I like it in the fall and early winter because I detect a stewed fruit smell in it and it makes me think of all of the good fruit that is available this time of year (wide variety of apples, pears).

I would not pay that much if it (the toothbrush holder) had been produced DURING the Edwardian period.

It’s summer where I live but a sudden cold wet day has me reaching for warm clothes and L’Ambre des Merveilles. I have to get my son to the doctor later, and L’Ambre is fabulous on days like this when I need a bit of calm and comfort to get me through. I’m just making myself some coffee and hot buttered toast …

Away from a computer all day, working outside in freezing temperatures on a loading dock. I was so thankful to be wearing Celtic Fire–it was a bit like carrying around my own personal campfire. In the end, even that strong scent dissipated in the cold, but it was lovely for a long time. And once I finally came back inside, I could still smell remnants of it.
