Hope Tuesday is treating you well so far? If you have time, do tell us your fragrance today.
I am wearing a little dab of Etro Anice, from a very old sample. It has not aged nicely, and I'll probably put on something else before long.
Reminder: this Friday, 11/7, we're doing "down the rabbit hole Friday": wear the perfume that turned you into a perfumista (whatever that means to you).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I love Anice, my favourite Anise, I like it a lot better than Anisia Bella.
My SOTD is A la Nuit, which is gorgeous, even though it feels a little out of season on this crisp autumn day.
I do like AB better, but still wish I had more Anice ๐
You smell great!
I decided to wear Slumberhouse Pear & Olive today. I think it’s nice in any kind of weather, although I seem to wear it more in the spring and fall.
It’s warm & sunny enough here today to feel like early fall…
I have heard a lot of people talk about this particular fragrance. It sounds so interesting to me. I will have to give it a try.
Oh I do love that one. It makes me salivate every time I wear it though; it shares a similar mouthwatering note with PG Jardin de Kerylos.
SOTD is TF Tuscan Leather. Had a hard time deciding on a fragrance today, nothing seemed right. But it’s hard to go wrong with a good leather!
But it CAN be done, LOL…
I guess some days everything is wrong. What is a good scent for those days where you just feel grumpy, petulant, and disagreeable??
For me, CdG Ouarzazate … it’s so calming.
I use pure sandalwood oil
My Grumpy days get vanilla treatment.
Unless you want to STAY grumpy because you get more done when people get out of your way…
… in which case, Serge Noire. Or huge frightening applications of Poison. Or Mitsouko. (Mitsy does not play nice with me and I don’t find her comforting.)
๐ Of course, I am saying this on Election Day, when there is no school (some of our county schools function as polling places) and both my sons are home bothering me. Mom, we want lunch. Mom, where’s my clean laundry. Mom, Mom, Mom…
Haha! Sometimes I feel like that. I don’t have kids, but my boyfriend usually sleeps in way late on weekends. When he doesn’t, I get grumpy because I am used to having the house to myself all morning!
Ha…yes, bad case of the Mom!-s around here today too.
I have been out of the house for over 12 years, and my favorite “joke” to play on my mom is to say “moooom” in that pestering tone. Just to keep her on her toes ๐
Never fails to get a laugh and a shudder, ha!
Definitely, you can’t go wrong with *that* leather perfume!
Hey Rose Pepper, I was trawling through my collection and remembered a couple more cozy ambers if you’re hunting for a nice one? Ambre 114 by Histoires de Parfums, and Ambre Orient by Armani/Prive. AO is $$$, comes in a huge bottle and is ‘eau de parfum intense’. Super strong. So a small amount would probably do…
Wish shipping wasn’t such an issue or I’d happily send you some ๐
Thanks for the suggestions! I haven’t tried any of the Histoires de Parums yet, some of them sound quite good. I have quite a large Amber list going ๐
Ohhh, I definitely have those days when nothing feels right. Especially if I’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed and my hair is all dirty and I don’t have time to shower and I feel crappy. Some days like that, my favorite thing is to pick out my perfume. Other days, though, nothing seems to fit. On those days, I find myself spritzing on some Prada Candy. So comforting, and it makes me feel okay that everything isn’t perfect.
I was very thankful for dry shampoo this morning ๐
Dry shampoo is a treasure.
Amen.
Currently sampling Bois 1920 Sushi Imperiale which is running a little masculine on me and not one that I’d get a full bottle of
That’s a weird one because it’s half spicy apple pie and half shaving cream fougere.
That’s a pretty good description for a slightly odd scent
Exactly! I can’t do the shaving cream part of it.
I’m wearing Yin & Ylang. Got a purse spray in the recent swap! It’s got the familiar SSS base but the florals are greener and icier.
Good swap deal!
I want to get this tester. I need to catch up on my SSS sniffing! It sounds so interesting.
It hasn’t replaced any of my faves from the line but it’s a nice addition.
I’m trying Guerlain’s new French Kiss today. Very girly and terribly pink, but nicely done. A cross between their own Petite Robe Noire and Malle’s Lipstick Rose.
That’s just about how Jessica described it….a play on Lipstick Rose.
I was about to say something snarky about Guerlain having been reduced to producing copy cat perfumes, but then I remembered that some of their greatest perfumes are said to have been copies of Coty and Chanel perfumes.
(“play on” would be a better term than “copy”)
Hey, they ALL copy / play on / “are inspired by”.
Mainly I was going to snark on Guerlain for doing a rose oud, but I have to admit that many commenters love their take on it.
I’m playing it safe in Wit again today. It is warm and verrry muggy out today so I couldn’t quite face a fall scent. I wanted to really smell great since my hair is doing the Medusa and I’m covered in hives from the mold in the air. I’m ready for a cold front here already!
Ugh, sorry! Really, you break out in hives from airborne molds?? That can’t be fun.
But you do smell great!
Oh dear, hives are no fun. I get them from stress and humidity. The only thing that relieved the itching for me was aloe Vera gel straight from the plant. I hope they clear up soon!
Thanks. An asthmatic kid offered me a hit of his inhaler and said he’s had to use it three times today, poor baby. The official allergy report is dead wrong (everything is trace, that just doesn’t happen here, ever), everyone who walked in the office was sneezing, itching, or wheezing.
On the bright side, lawn mowing is out again today and any excuse to put that chore off is pure gold to me ๐
Tomorrow I’m expecting a sample order so my breathing tubes had better clear up ASAP so I can sniff new stuff.
Hello lovelies ๐
Today I sampled Oriza L. Legrand Jardins d’Armide again, and it’s just so lovely I’ve had to add it to my ‘really want a FB’ list.
Tonight I’m at work and wearing Infusion d’Iris because I can’t remember when I last wore it. It was a good choice ๐
Love Jardins d’Armide. Great choice.
My SOTD is Nectarine Blossom and Honey from Jo Malone. This will be my Friday SOTD as well. It has always been my favorite and I couldn’t wait until Friday to wear it.
Yesterday I tried Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche. It ultimately left me cold (which might be simply a seasonal mismatch – I plan to retry in spring or summer), but I can see why many love it. I’m sufficiently impressed with this and Chambre Noire to keep exploring this brand.
It’s probably a lovely fragrance but I found it quite linear and as woods are not my favourite category I wasn’t smitten.
I found Lumiere Blanche mostly a cool floral, and Chambre Noire warm and spicy/woody. There are many perfumes these days that have woody notes that take my nose hostage, but I’m blissfully not hyperosmic to any of these so far. Knock on wood! ๐
I had a similar experience. I see the beauty in it, and enjoyed wearing it, but it ultimately left me feeling empty. The one that I really love is Flashback. It is such a joyful and uplifting fragrance. It comes across as simple, but really it’s very intriguing.
Good to know – I have a sample of Flashback to try!
OJ Orris Noir today. I need another spritz of it because my skin seems to be just making it disappear. The air is really dry outside so maybe it’s a spray-the-clothing day.
I like Orris Noir and wear it from time to time but I also noticed that it fades away during some wears though sometimes I get a good run from it – I haven’t noticed any pattern yet.
It’s that way for me too! I really wish they would have the parfum version available for the US……the frangipani, champaca, and tolu parfum versions are wonderfully, incredibly tenacious…..
I’m sorry to disappoint you: it looks like after they’ve changed the packaging they stopped producing parfum versions and now there are only EdPs. (I bought Ta’if parfum last year but I can’t find it on the website any longer).
I *just* got a 15 ml bottle of Tolu parfum about a month ago. They had a special for a free bottle with every order over 200.00, so of course I had to buy some travel sprays. I’m crossing my fingers that maybe…..just *maybe*…….they surprise us with parfum version availability for the holidays. (please santa)
Testing Amouage Opus iii today. I like it, but I think because it reminds me of Journey. I think I’d rather wear Journey though.
I really like Opus III, yet my only try of Journey so far wasn’t nearly so favourable. To me Journey’s leathery opening is quite harsh tho I do like the drydown. OTOH Opus III is a warm floral with broom. And I do love broom as a note in perfume.
There aren’t many Amouages I don’t like, so I ought to spend some more time with Journey..
That’s interesting because I prefer the leather notes in Journey. It didn’t come off too harsh on me. My skin brought out more of the osmanthus and mimosa. I do very much like Opus iii, but given a choice between the two, I’d take Journey.
Are you going to make it an Etro week, Robin? Yeah, yeah two days in a row isn’t really a trend ๐
Inspired by yesterday’s spicy rose discussion, I’m wearing Noble Rose of Afghanistan by 7 Virtues and True Love by Valentina’s Home-Brewed. The True Love is a perfume oil and I added a drop of it to my unscented lotion. Nice combo.
No, I don’t even have enough Etro to pull it off! And all out of Messe de Minuit.
Yesterday I received a decant of Les Nereides Patchouli Antique and fell in love with it. I love the sweet vanilla pipe tobacco notes and the patch is strong and rich. Even my SO loves it. I went straight to eBay and bought the big bottle of old formulation. I heard that the name is now Patchouli Precieux and I am a bit confused about whether the formulation has changed along with the name. I also heard that they changed the name because the word “antique” could be interpreted as “old lady”, but to me it’s a real selling point! Has anyone tried Precieux and if so what did you think?
SOTD is Patchouli Antique
It was a beautiful day here today- sunny, autumnal but not cold. SOTD is Le Labo Patchouli 24. It’s been a while and missed it!
That’s one of the main ones I look forward to as the weather cools too. Love that stuff.
Off to a meeting so just wearing two tiny spritzes of Miss Dior (you know which I mean ;)) to make me feel all dressed and ready to go.
Great choice!
Went with Chanel no 5 edp. Now all I need is coffee and this day can get started already!
SOTD Guerlain Rose Barbare. I wanted something warm and cheerful.
Have you ever tried La Rose Nacrรฉe du Dรฉsert? I’ve never tried Barbare but love this other Guerlain.
No, but I’d love to! I’m really behind testing anything “new” from the past 2 or 3 years. RB has a very warm smooth patchouli and some spices. It is not really “barbare” as others have commented in reviews. It has outstanding longevity.
I fear you would love it. I’ve still got a sample and a half and swoon every time I wear it.
Wearing Kokorico. It generally doesn’t get much love, but I find it quite enjoyable!
Wanted comfort & cozy so reached for Santal Carmin this morning. Sandelwood, vanilla and saffron. Makes me want to do some baking!
Sounds delightful!
I’m wearing a few dabs of Aroma M Nobara-Cha. It’s a good autumn rose and suits today’s weather!
LโAmbre des Merveilles, which is perfect for this warm fall day. So far, so good on a Tuesday – I am getting all sorts of projects crossed off my to-do list at work. And you know what? They weren’t nearly as onerous as I had anticipated. Sometimes you really do just have to put one foot in front of the other and just.do.it.
You are so right – the anxious anticipation of the event is almost always worse than the thing itself! I need to remind myself of this all the time.
Good job, crossing stuff off a list feels so good!!!
Good job and good point! Somewhere in the afternoon it took me about 15 minutes to get most of my to-do-list for the day done :). A friend invited herself over for tea and I had to get it done before she came, and that was all the incentive I needed :).
I have a very long week of wall-to-wall meetings, so I planned to wear Passage D’Enfer all week and test out some samples that needed second chances at night. However, I got adventurous today (since my meetings start later) and am wearing OJ Tolu.
Chilly and dreary here today, I’m wearing Coty’s lovely L’Origan in homage to the last of the golden orange leaves clinging tenaciously to the maple trees. Despite much of autumn’s splendor faded into dried, crinkly heaps on the ground, I focus upward and join them in defiance of the encroaching brownness that is November.
L’Origan is really lovely, or at least it used to be… perhaps I should get mine out. I have some 70s PdT and it’s wonderful.
Replied to you below ๐
“Despite much of autumnโs splendor faded into dried, crinkly heaps on the ground, I focus upward and join them in defiance of the encroaching brownness that is November.”
Hear, hear!!
Wearing PdN L’eau a la Folie – received a decant yesterday from a generous perfumista (thanks Farouche!). It is super peachy. Hoping I get some of the lime and mint I see in the notes, but right now the peach is all I can smell. It’s chilly now, but supposed to get up to 80 today, so the scent should be appropriate in an hour or so!
SOTD Coeur de Vetiver Sacre. Perfect for fall and for an office that is chilly…
Today was my “read to the 3rd graders” day, so I had to wear something that stays close to the skin. I usually go with an oil in that case, and today I picked “Blessed Bee” from Alkemia (an etsy e-tailer). Honey, honey and more honey. Loving it on what passes for a cool day in Florida.
I was looking at Alkemia’s Etsy page yesterday. Blessed Bee caught my eye (along with several others).
I”ve been showering with L’Occitane’s honey shower gel in the cube-shaped bottle. It’s nice, but the smell is quite faint compared to the old one at was the color and consistency of real honey that came in a tall cylindrical bottle.
Oh, I remember the old one. It was great!
SOTD is my beloved Sisley Eau de Soir….the best chypre and never reformulated!! Heaven:))
I don’t think it gets enough love.
In honor of the sad passing of Oscar de la Renta, Esprit de Oscar today, lovely as ever!
Today is Knightsbridge by Robert Piguet…….kinda dreamy scent for a day off from work.
Is Knightsbridge really so special as as rumored?
I’m wearing Rose Muskissime from Maitre Parfumeurs et Gantier today. It was one of my first niche purchases (in a nod to this week’s themes) and is also one of my favorite transitional season scents. The blend of rose and blood orange really seems to bring summer (rose) and winter (citrus) together for me.
I was going through samples and started with By Kilian Oud, too much- -so I added Ann Gerard Rose Cut and now I’m ok. So off to vote. . .
SOTD is vintage White Shoulders. It even got a “You smell nice.” from Mr. Ab. Scent when he hugged me before leaving for work. It’s just the thing for this chilly, rainy afternoon.
Nice. I used to wear the White Shoulders bath oil in the 80s.
I tend to think of vintage White Shoulders as perfect in the summer
I can’t believe it took me so many years to come to love Bvlgari Black. It seems like such a friendly perfume now… ๐
It is a quiet stunner- and what unique packaging!
Today, I’m wearing Zagorsk. It’s a very cool incense, but it’s nice for the grey, chilly weather. The violet note is really lovely, and overall I find it very easy to wear. It’s a good one for work, and it feels pretty zen. Still, I think I prefer Avignon to this one.
Love Zagorsk! (and prefer it to Avignon :0
๐ I am also groovin’ on it for sure! It’s definitely going on the FB list.
I like both Avignon and Zagorsk, and don’t get on with the others, isn’t that funny?
You get violets from Zagorsk? Wow, how cool! I don’t get anything floral from it at all.
Wearing Guerlain Encens Mythique D’Orient. Where is my houseboy? My grapes are unpeeled! Oh, right, I’m at work…
๐
I was able to find a small decant of Iris Silver Mist in my canvas bag today and wore that and vintage Mitsouko might be tomorrow or Theorema. I hate being separated from my entire collection because I am craving no 22.
Hope the separation from your collection will be over soon! Luckily, you seem to have some good stuff with you ๐
I made sure that I had some good stuff with me and I can’t wait to be rolling back into Cleveland on Thursday to get my Cuir de Russie so I can participate in Friday’s SOTD.
Wearing Hiris.
What a great scent and how nice was that original packaging!
Oh, we are scent twins today! High 5! Love the perfume and the old cobalt bottle as well- you smell fantastic ๐
Deva,
You smell fantastic too!!
And too bad Hermes decided to cheapen their Hiris packaging (I hope that the crepe paper inside my old box stays in a good shape forever …)
I went with Volutes EDT today. I have some of the EDP as well, and I like both of them. I get more iris in the EDP, though.
I like both but EdT is my favorite and I don’t think they are different enough to warrant having both in my collection.
Tabu!!!
Smells great and reminds me of my Aunt Ev minus the Chesterfield smoke. Ah, to have a time machine…………
Bear, I can’t remember if you like Penhaligon’s Sartorial or not, but now and then I come across Sartorial beard oil (online) and wonder if you know about it.
Hello nozknoz,
I have never smelled Sartorial but have seen various beard oils online but never used one. Thanks for this post – I have not used oil on my beard but the next time I wear one of my sandalwood oils I will try it. Cheers ! ๐
Oh, you smell delightful. I used to wear it with a cloud of Benson & Hedges.
I was running a bit late today, so went with Mythique again, since it was still sitting out. Whereas yesterday I kind of liked it, today I really didn’t. The sharp top note (whatever it is) was too sharp today. Then it was slightly nice, and then vanished. It reminded me of some very passive-agressive person whose only virtue is her absence. Now I might not even bother finishing the sample (I think there’s only one spray left, but why waste time on passive-aggressive perfume?)
I feel that way sometimes even with the fragrances I love- if I’m not in the mood for them they just get on my nerves. (Hmm, that can be said for people too ๐ )
I really don’t get how people can wear the same perfume everyday!
So don’t banish the poor thing, maybe just wait until you feel the love again ๐
SOTD is ELPC Amber Ylang-Ylang. I couldn’t decide between amber and floral for Election Day, so chose both. I’m happy with that result, at least. I love going to the polls, it always gives me a warm flush of civic virtue. Election Day should be a national holiday, who’s with me? Oh, right, everyone else voted by mail. Sigh.
Or didn’t vote at all.
