Tuesday scent of the day 11/4

Posted by Robin on 4 November 2014 122 Comments

Etro fashion campaign

Hope Tuesday is treating you well so far? If you have time, do tell us your fragrance today.

I am wearing a little dab of Etro Anice, from a very old sample. It has not aged nicely, and I'll probably put on something else before long.

Reminder: this Friday, 11/7, we're doing "down the rabbit hole Friday": wear the perfume that turned you into a perfumista (whatever that means to you).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I love Anice, my favourite Anise, I like it a lot better than Anisia Bella.
My SOTD is A la Nuit, which is gorgeous, even though it feels a little out of season on this crisp autumn day.

I do like AB better, but still wish I had more Anice :-)

      You smell great!

I decided to wear Slumberhouse Pear & Olive today. I think it’s nice in any kind of weather, although I seem to wear it more in the spring and fall.

Unless you want to STAY grumpy because you get more done when people get out of your way…

… in which case, Serge Noire. Or huge frightening applications of Poison. Or Mitsouko. (Mitsy does not play nice with me and I don’t find her comforting.)

:) Of course, I am saying this on Election Day, when there is no school (some of our county schools function as polling places) and both my sons are home bothering me. Mom, we want lunch. Mom, where’s my clean laundry. Mom, Mom, Mom…

Haha! Sometimes I feel like that. I don’t have kids, but my boyfriend usually sleeps in way late on weekends. When he doesn’t, I get grumpy because I am used to having the house to myself all morning!

I have been out of the house for over 12 years, and my favorite “joke” to play on my mom is to say “moooom” in that pestering tone. Just to keep her on her toes ;)
Never fails to get a laugh and a shudder, ha!

Hey Rose Pepper, I was trawling through my collection and remembered a couple more cozy ambers if you’re hunting for a nice one? Ambre 114 by Histoires de Parfums, and Ambre Orient by Armani/Prive. AO is $$$, comes in a huge bottle and is ‘eau de parfum intense’. Super strong. So a small amount would probably do…
Wish shipping wasn’t such an issue or I’d happily send you some :-(

Ohhh, I definitely have those days when nothing feels right. Especially if I’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed and my hair is all dirty and I don’t have time to shower and I feel crappy. Some days like that, my favorite thing is to pick out my perfume. Other days, though, nothing seems to fit. On those days, I find myself spritzing on some Prada Candy. So comforting, and it makes me feel okay that everything isn’t perfect.

I’m playing it safe in Wit again today. It is warm and verrry muggy out today so I couldn’t quite face a fall scent. I wanted to really smell great since my hair is doing the Medusa and I’m covered in hives from the mold in the air. I’m ready for a cold front here already!

Oh dear, hives are no fun. I get them from stress and humidity. The only thing that relieved the itching for me was aloe Vera gel straight from the plant. I hope they clear up soon!

Thanks. An asthmatic kid offered me a hit of his inhaler and said he’s had to use it three times today, poor baby. The official allergy report is dead wrong (everything is trace, that just doesn’t happen here, ever), everyone who walked in the office was sneezing, itching, or wheezing.
On the bright side, lawn mowing is out again today and any excuse to put that chore off is pure gold to me :)
Tomorrow I’m expecting a sample order so my breathing tubes had better clear up ASAP so I can sniff new stuff.

Today I sampled Oriza L. Legrand Jardins d’Armide again, and it’s just so lovely I’ve had to add it to my ‘really want a FB’ list.

Yesterday I tried Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche. It ultimately left me cold (which might be simply a seasonal mismatch – I plan to retry in spring or summer), but I can see why many love it. I’m sufficiently impressed with this and Chambre Noire to keep exploring this brand.

I found Lumiere Blanche mostly a cool floral, and Chambre Noire warm and spicy/woody. There are many perfumes these days that have woody notes that take my nose hostage, but I’m blissfully not hyperosmic to any of these so far. Knock on wood! ;-)

I’m crossing my fingers that maybe…..just *maybe*…….they surprise us with parfum version availability for the holidays. (please santa)

I really like Opus III, yet my only try of Journey so far wasn’t nearly so favourable. To me Journey’s leathery opening is quite harsh tho I do like the drydown. OTOH Opus III is a warm floral with broom. And I do love broom as a note in perfume.
There aren’t many Amouages I don’t like, so I ought to spend some more time with Journey..

That’s interesting because I prefer the leather notes in Journey. It didn’t come off too harsh on me. My skin brought out more of the osmanthus and mimosa. I do very much like Opus iii, but given a choice between the two, I’d take Journey.

Are you going to make it an Etro week, Robin? Yeah, yeah two days in a row isn’t really a trend :-)

Inspired by yesterday’s spicy rose discussion, I’m wearing Noble Rose of Afghanistan by 7 Virtues and True Love by Valentina’s Home-Brewed. The True Love is a perfume oil and I added a drop of it to my unscented lotion. Nice combo.

Yesterday I received a decant of Les Nereides Patchouli Antique and fell in love with it. I love the sweet vanilla pipe tobacco notes and the patch is strong and rich. Even my SO loves it. I went straight to eBay and bought the big bottle of old formulation. I heard that the name is now Patchouli Precieux and I am a bit confused about whether the formulation has changed along with the name. I also heard that they changed the name because the word “antique” could be interpreted as “old lady”, but to me it’s a real selling point! Has anyone tried Precieux and if so what did you think?

L’Ambre des Merveilles, which is perfect for this warm fall day. So far, so good on a Tuesday – I am getting all sorts of projects crossed off my to-do list at work. And you know what? They weren’t nearly as onerous as I had anticipated. Sometimes you really do just have to put one foot in front of the other and just.do.it.

Chilly and dreary here today, I’m wearing Coty’s lovely L’Origan in homage to the last of the golden orange leaves clinging tenaciously to the maple trees. Despite much of autumn’s splendor faded into dried, crinkly heaps on the ground, I focus upward and join them in defiance of the encroaching brownness that is November.

Wearing PdN L’eau a la Folie – received a decant yesterday from a generous perfumista (thanks Farouche!). It is super peachy. Hoping I get some of the lime and mint I see in the notes, but right now the peach is all I can smell. It’s chilly now, but supposed to get up to 80 today, so the scent should be appropriate in an hour or so!

Today was my “read to the 3rd graders” day, so I had to wear something that stays close to the skin. I usually go with an oil in that case, and today I picked “Blessed Bee” from Alkemia (an etsy e-tailer). Honey, honey and more honey. Loving it on what passes for a cool day in Florida.

I was looking at Alkemia’s Etsy page yesterday. Blessed Bee caught my eye (along with several others).

I”ve been showering with L’Occitane’s honey shower gel in the cube-shaped bottle. It’s nice, but the smell is quite faint compared to the old one at was the color and consistency of real honey that came in a tall cylindrical bottle.

I’m wearing Rose Muskissime from Maitre Parfumeurs et Gantier today. It was one of my first niche purchases (in a nod to this week’s themes) and is also one of my favorite transitional season scents. The blend of rose and blood orange really seems to bring summer (rose) and winter (citrus) together for me.

I was going through samples and started with By Kilian Oud, too much- -so I added Ann Gerard Rose Cut and now I’m ok. So off to vote. . .

SOTD is vintage White Shoulders. It even got a “You smell nice.” from Mr. Ab. Scent when he hugged me before leaving for work. It’s just the thing for this chilly, rainy afternoon.

Nice. I used to wear the White Shoulders bath oil in the 80s.

Today, I’m wearing Zagorsk. It’s a very cool incense, but it’s nice for the grey, chilly weather. The violet note is really lovely, and overall I find it very easy to wear. It’s a good one for work, and it feels pretty zen. Still, I think I prefer Avignon to this one.

I was able to find a small decant of Iris Silver Mist in my canvas bag today and wore that and vintage Mitsouko might be tomorrow or Theorema. I hate being separated from my entire collection because I am craving no 22.

And too bad Hermes decided to cheapen their Hiris packaging (I hope that the crepe paper inside my old box stays in a good shape forever …)

        Hello nozknoz,
I have never smelled Sartorial but have seen various beard oils online but never used one. Thanks for this post – I have not used oil on my beard but the next time I wear one of my sandalwood oils I will try it. Cheers ! ;)

I was running a bit late today, so went with Mythique again, since it was still sitting out. Whereas yesterday I kind of liked it, today I really didn’t. The sharp top note (whatever it is) was too sharp today. Then it was slightly nice, and then vanished. It reminded me of some very passive-agressive person whose only virtue is her absence. Now I might not even bother finishing the sample (I think there’s only one spray left, but why waste time on passive-aggressive perfume?)

I feel that way sometimes even with the fragrances I love- if I’m not in the mood for them they just get on my nerves. (Hmm, that can be said for people too ;-) )
I really don’t get how people can wear the same perfume everyday!
So don’t banish the poor thing, maybe just wait until you feel the love again :)

SOTD is ELPC Amber Ylang-Ylang. I couldn’t decide between amber and floral for Election Day, so chose both. I’m happy with that result, at least. I love going to the polls, it always gives me a warm flush of civic virtue. Election Day should be a national holiday, who’s with me? Oh, right, everyone else voted by mail. Sigh.
