omg, it IS the song from Grease, albeit a much dreamier interpretation. And the love interest is the drug-addled Sonny from the show Treme.

Adding, Chanel has about 10 videos up for this commercial, with all sorts of background info on the clothes & the song & whatnot, and I admit I did not watch them all but nobody seems to mention or care who the male lead might be. Ha! He’s just background masculinity, he doesn’t really matter 🙂

I love and will definitely borrow “background masculinity”.

But not as long and silly as the Nicole Kidman one! (I don’t think we’ve ever posted that one, it makes me laugh every time)

At least that one made a little of sense….

With apologies to Mr. Luhrmann, the Audrey Tautou IMHO blows both of his away. Plus, it’s more Chanel-ish to me.

I agree, the Audrey Tautou one was really stylish. Gisele is stunning as usual in this one, but the whole thing is a bit too long. I got bored at 1.20″ 🙂

I’m surprised nobody mentionned the Brad Pitt one yet. I can see it coming 🙂 Honestly, I didn’t dislike it. It was a little odd, but I liked the masculine take on N. 5.

Agree – the Audrey Tautou video with the train was the most evocative of the recent video ads.

The video could have been a lot worse. I don’t have any problems with Gisele B – but she doesn’t exactly look like a No 5 woman to me. She is very sexy. IMHO it would have been a better video for one of their men’s frags.

Didn’t think about it but would agree w/ that too. I didn’t think Nicole Kidman was very Chanel either.

    Hello Robin!
    That was…………………..hmmmm, interesting.
Does Chanel release info about the efficacy of the various ads on sales of No. 5 ? None of them really seem like they would increase sales – just increase brand awareness, thus increasing sales. Do you know what I mean?
I think this could just as likely sell Coco Mademoiselle, increasing traffic to Chanel counters in general. Thanks in advance for all responses.

Oh, gosh, no, nobody releases info like that, much less Chanel!

I think Chanel is terribly concerned about maintaining Chanel No. 5’s reputation. I would not be surprised if they were more worried about that than short term sales, and yes, I would guess that Chanel No. 5’s continued success “feeds” the entire Chanel beauty line, to say nothing of underwriting the fashion.
