Baccarat Rouge 540 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 October 2014 7 Comments

Baccarat Rouge 540

Baccarat will launch Rouge 540, a new limited edition perfume celebrating the brand's 250th anniversary. The '540' refers to the temperature required to reach the red color of Baccarat crystal.

Rouge 540 is a floral woody amber, and was developed by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. The notes include blood orange, lavender, sage, ambergris, moss, woods and oak.

Baccarat Rouge 540 will be €3000, size and concentration unknown. 250 bottles were made.

Now we know how a classic avon bottle would look like if it was expensive 😀

      LOL!!

I don’t think it’s ugly, but it’s not at all what I expected. The outer packaging is lovely, but I don’t covet the bottle at all. They’ve done much better bottles for other brands…

Robin, i don’t know if you have this bottle in USA, but look the Cristal line avon has in Brazil:

I love the packaging too, but the bottle seems mediocre compared to the others they have done for other brands

It’s weird that Rouge 540 is named after the temperature required to reach the red color of Baccarat crystal, but the bottle itself is NOT red. This would never have happened in the 1980s!

Yes…I don’t get it either. It does seem to come with that red glass stick/dauber thingie.

Rouge 540 is an absolute masterpiece. Looking at the notes, there’s no way to have guessed how gorgeous this is. Completely romantic while being entirely unisex. I’d describe it as a sweet, earthy, animalic amber. It’s blended so well that you can’t really pinpoint any of the notes, it’s just a beautiful thing of its own.

Some other perfume fans and I were invited to have dinner with Marc Chaya, the CEO and co-founder of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, here in the Philippines tonight, and he said this was his favorite scent they’ve ever put out, and had us all smell it. Everyone was in awe of it.

Marc Chaya is a very nice guy. We talked a lot about my charity here in the Philippines, how long I’ve lived here, and about insane IFRA regulations. And then he slipped me the bottle of Rouge 540 that I’d been so seduced by. My new favorite perfume possession.

(Sidenote: Oud Satin Mood is awesome too, and has shot to the top of my favorites of their Ouds).
