Aftelier Palimpsest mini

What is it: a new 2 ml mini of Aftelier Palimpsest, courtesy of Mandy Aftel at Aftelier.

How do I get it: For a chance to win, leave a comment on the website telling us a) your favorite Aftelier fragrance or b) your favorite natural perfume or c) something else you've been dying to say in a comment.

Be sure to use the “Post a comment” box; do not reply to another comment! Replies to comments will be deleted!

The contest will be open until noon or so on Sunday, and I'll announce the winner on Monday.

The fine print: Don't enter the contest unless I have permission to use the email address in your reader account to contact you. If you are the winner and you fail to send me your mailing details within a couple weeks, I’ll give your prize away to someone else.

My favorite natural perfume oil concentree’ is my costly, however, the inimitable Mysore Sandalwood is 100% pure and naturally sourced. I feel terrbile when I wear it because I have not smelled real sandalwood since the 70’s, so this brings me a pleasure in a category all it’s own. I have read the NST reviews of Aftelier fragrances and I am intrigued.

  35. leechiyong says:
    17 September 2014 at 4:00 pm

  44. MikasMinion says:

I haven’t tried any Aftelier fragrances yet although I have played a bit with a couple of the chef’s essences. I just can’t ever make up my mind what to sample when I visit the website. My favorite natural fragrance is Olympic Orchids Tropic of Capricorn and, of course, you may use my email. Thank you, Mandy, for your generosity and NST for hosting.

Not sure I have anything truly natural in my collection, and I don’t think I’ve had a chance to try any Aftelier scents, either! This sounds lovely–or at least fascinating–in any case!

Oh and yes, I live in the US and you are welcome to contact me.

I love Mandy’s scents. I had a sample of Cepes and Tubereuse that I used up, it was so gorgeous.

I also like the Pear, Fir and Coffee body oil.

I live in the US, and my email address is accurate.

Thank you for entering me in the drawing.

  53. tiffanie says:
    17 September 2014 at 10:15 pm

I really admire natural perfumes. They are so easy to love. Several samples are in rotation on my desk.

I started reading “Essence and Alchemy” last week. Mandy Aftel’s writing is as interesting as the names and descriptions of her fragrances. Palimpsest is such a delicious name for a scent.

I’m looking forward to her next book. I wish her books came with a scratch and sniff card, or better yet, a box of samples. :)

  54. Rappleyea says:
    17 September 2014 at 10:24 pm

I remember thinking when it was announced that Palimpsest sounded wonderful and that I would love to try it. So I am grateful for the draw. I really admire the originality of Mandy’s Cepes & Tuberose, but I would have to say that my favorite natural (so far) is SSS Cocoa/Sandalwood.

You have my permission to use the email associated with my account.

  57. Nightingale says:
    17 September 2014 at 11:37 pm

I have yet to try anything from Aftelier but hope to soon. I was way into Aveda’s chakra scents years ago and have recently discovered perfume from Sweet Anthem which is a lovely line of natural fragrances. Thanks for the opportunity!

  58. ungentarii says:
    18 September 2014 at 12:22 am

Having trained as a professional aromatherapist in both Canada and the US, I have worked with almost every e.o., botanical, extract, made macerations… and so on. What I’m getting at is that Mandy’s Absolutes are STELLAR! They make my natural perfumery work with ambergris, civet, musk grains etc easy. I don’t have to think what I will create next when I grab her Tiare or hyraceum. Thanks for all your good work.

  59. rivercitylizzy says:
    18 September 2014 at 12:45 am

My favorite natural perfume so far is Chemical Bonding by INeKE. Lovely stuff for the heat of a NorCal summer!

I have been lusting after Cuir Gardenia for many moons now, but alas, I have yet to try it. Palimpsest piqued my interest after reading a recent review, however, and so it might allay the pining for CG…for a while ;) Mahalo for the draw!

  60. jayellsay says:
    18 September 2014 at 12:58 am

My favorite is the Parfum Prive, although I also loved my sample of the solid Oud Luban layered with the jasmine…also love the Ancient Resins :)

  61. Lavanya says:
    18 September 2014 at 1:02 am

I have too many Aftelier favorites- Shiso, Fig, Secret Garden, Cepes and Tuberose..Dying to try this one- thanks for the draw!

  62. keetja says:
    18 September 2014 at 1:29 am

I dabble in natural perfume making. Most commercial fragrances stick around too long and often the top note and the base note are like two different breed of animal. I am a huge fan of Mandy’s perfumers botanicals, they are always as described and more unique than others. I have yet to try any of her own signature scents as I save all my dollars for the botanicals but Im dying to try them as I am sure they are beautifully sculpted, balanced and structured. Her books are a great read too!

  63. retskaya says:

  70. allgirlmafia says:
    18 September 2014 at 1:50 pm

Since I’ve never sampled Aftelier and I own no natural perfumes I’ll have to choose option C)

I like the fact that every ‘house’ tends to have their own distinctive signature in how they do fragrance. Goutal, Juliette Has a Gun, Lutens, Lauder; even without labeling some houses have such strong character that you can take one whiff and say “Oh, this must be a *insert name* perfume” I love that, I think it’s attractive when work is so distinctive it speaks for itself.

  71. C.H. says:
    18 September 2014 at 2:49 pm

Oh, gosh I’ve never gotten to try any Afteliers, would so love it. Thank you, Robin and Mandy, for this draw! (And I echo everyone who’s so enchanted by this name!)

  72. CynthiaMc says:

I’ve never had the opportunity to try anything from Aftelier. I read your review the other day and this sounds really intriguing. I think the only natural I have is a perfume oil from Al-Rehab, Silver, which is really lovely.
Thank you and Mandy for the draw.

  73. bookwyrmsmith says:

  80. 2rista says:
    20 September 2014 at 2:52 pm

I’ve never tried any Afteliers or other natural perfumes.but I’ve heard so many good things about Cuir de Gradenia and I love leather so I’m sure it must be great.
I’m also seduced by the name of Palimpsest…

I live in Spain and you can use my email as you wish.

  81. Laurels says:
    20 September 2014 at 5:38 pm

I’ve never tried any Aftelier perfumes, but Palimpsest is a great name for a perfume, and from its description: “the base notes shimmer up through the top and middle notes in a seamless, scented wave.” Irresistible. My favorite natural perfume of the few I’ve tried is Phoenix Botanicals Night Bloom.

  82. stephanie says:
    21 September 2014 at 12:01 am

I’m new to natural perfumes so I don’t have a favourite, but I’d love to try an Aftelier creation and Palimpsest sounds very interesting. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
