September is flying by...what's your fragrance today?
I'm wearing a bunch of stuff, including Heeley Spirit of the Tiger because someone mentioned it the other day.
Reminder: this Friday, 12 September, wear something green. The following Friday, 19 September, wear something discontinued.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.
Terracotta Le Parfum. Hoping Sotto La Luna arrives today since it’s my birthday
Happy Birthday! And it’s officially the day that Sotto La Luna Gardenia is available for sale (pre-orders notwithstanding).
I preordered it so fingers crossed that I can swing by Twisted Lily today between work and class and it will be there. Actually, I’ll call once I get out of work so I don’t waste a trip
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday…hope your perfume arrives on time!
Happy Birthday! Hope you get spoilt rotten 🙂
Happy Birthday to you! May it be a beautifully smelling year for you..
Happy Birthday and I hope you love your new perfume!
Happy birthday! I just got a sample of Sotto La Luna yesterday and I think it’s quite lovely – hope you can snag a bottle.
Happy Bday! 😀
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! May it be smelly & wonderful!
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
Weather is nice and coolish (at least when I was outside earlier today). Fall is here and I love it. A number of people mentioned Chergui in the polls and I thought today was the perfect day to debut it for the season.
I need to explore the Heely fragrances more! That Tiger Balm jar brings back memories. It also came in tiny red tins and no matter the packaging, they all smell the same.
I always had the tins…used to always have one in my purse, now I have not bought it in years. The scent is fun but have never decided if I really want to have it.
I was going to wear Chergui today, as the weather in Missouri turned unusually fall-ish the other day. But now it is back to the heat and I’m not sure what to wear anymore! I was so looking forward to some honeyed tobacco on my sweater.
After four days in Paestum Rose I had a craving for a completely different rose scent, so SOTD is Amouage Lyric. I’m curious if anyone here has tried this in the extrait and how it compares to the EdP… I’m more than halfway through my bottle and this is one I’m sure I’ll buy again eventually, but I’ve never run across samples of the extrait.
I wondered the same thing. I think I’ve read the extrait is much richer, very oily, and wears closely but I haven’t ever tried it.
The last of my Lyric (waiting for new decant) because it’s my birthday too!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday…hope it is fun!
Happy Birthday! Hope you get spoilt rotten too!
Indeed, happy birthday to you as well, and you smell wonderful.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Bday!!
Happy Birthday to you too! And I hope you get whatever fragrance your heart desires!
Happy birthday to the birthday people!
I’m wearing PdN Eau Soleil. It was cloudy when I woke up but now the sun is out and shining.
I’m jealous, it has stayed mostly dreary here today,
Don’t be too jealous, now it’s raining again. This has been a weirdly damp summer for Colorado.
SOTD is Amouage Fate Woman from a very cherished decant. I feel classy and sophisticated when in reality I am gauche and naive.
That’s the transformative magic of perfume!
Have a wonderful day, and to the birthday girls In the comments above- hope you have a splendid birthday filled with fragrant surprises!
Nice, I love it when it works that way 🙂
I’m commando (howdy from Hartsfield Jackson) but I ended up bringing Sensuous and Noa for my work trip, so it will be one of those when I am done flying.
Have a good trip!
Happy travels…love that Noa!
Happy Birthday, you two!
I am wearing two things I found through NST: Golden Cattleya by Olympic Orchids and a very realistic and extremely charming Gala apple charm bracelet from Tiny Hands.
Oh, how is that bracelet??
CUTE! The Gala apple charm is very realistic. You can get it with or without fragrance. I got a scented one, and the scent is very subdued. I wear eight-inch bracelets, and they are hard to find. She lets you customize the length! The charm is small and lightweight, so I might go back for earrings.
Good, and really nice that she lets you set the length.
Last night I partied at a friend’s house, vomited, passed out and woke up with no money left in my wallet, so I needed something strong to make me forget. Luckily, I don’t get hangovers, so I don’t need to worry about strong smells making that worse. I’m wearing A*Men layered with Vanillary today and haven’t left the house once! Haha.
Ack! Feel better.
SOTD is the new Bottega Veneta, Knot, since I received my sample last night. Trying to decide if I like it or not. It is an orange blossom I can stand – not too sweet – but it’s simple and not grabbing my attention 3 hours later. In fact, it wears extremely close to the skin and it’s hard for me to smell it at all. I do like the lavender note, however.. it’s subtle but adds something nice. Nice choice for the office, no doubt.
I think I need to move it to a spray vial and try it that way tomorrow 😉
Floragal, I have only smelled Knot on paper and, truth be told, I was underwhelmed and would not hesitate to dismiss it were it not for 4 stars from Bois de Jasmin. I was at the boutique last week and asked to smell the limited edition BV again (relegated to the top most shelf) and I am struck at how rich and deep it smells. The $475 (i think, or it could be $425) is keeping me from bringing out my credit card. Hmmm, come to think of it, this is my half-birthday month…
The murano? Gorgeous! That would look so lovely on a dresser… and totally birthday worthy gift!
When I tried Knot again last night after reading Bois de Jasmin’s review I was a bit surprised she gave it 4 stars. I must give it a spray sampling and a few more days before final verdict…
On another item, I also got a sample of Oeillet Bengale – swoon! Wore that one as I drifted into dream land. I’m going to wait until it gets a little colder out to wear during the day.
Oeillet Bengale is on my full bottle wish list. Fabulous stuff
Sniffed it this past weekend and didn’t care for it. But then I’m not much for florals. I was expecting something else from it, although I’m not sure what. Just something “more.”
I can’t wait to test Knot, but your comments make me wonder. I do love orange blossom and lavendar, but it seems like it may be too little? I don’t know. I liked BV and Eau Legere. Maybe there is a musk blocking issue? Hm. Well, I won’t know until I try. Sometimes I’m just as relieved if I don’t like something b/c then I can “want” something else.
L’air du Desert Marocain today, and Profumi del Forte By Night, White tonight.
I love it when my choices turn out to be perfect for my mood, and both picks have hit the mark today. One of the guys at work complimented me on the LdDM- he said it smelt of old books and that old library smell which he loves. It’s not a Moroccan wind but I can see what he meant. And yay! a perfume compliment 🙂
Nice library comparison! I love to layer LddM with rose fragrances, like Mille et Une Roses, to give them more oomph.
Ooh I never thought of that- sounds like it would work really well. Thanks for the suggestion Ann I’ll give it a shot
I love L’air du Desert Marocain; god, what a masterpiece that one is.
Delrae Wit. More floral than I usually prefer, but I like it. Probably better for spring, however.
I would think Wit too light for real autumn weather (which we are having today) as well. Fine for summer, though.
Moving my sample to the top of the pile, then!
SOTD is Divine L’Ame Soeur. It is faint but I can still smell it from putting some on at bedtime last night. It is really gorgeous and I need an fb before my cherished decant runs out. 🙂
I love this one! I’m in for a bottle when I run through my decant as well.
Soumds split-worthy between the two of you. Just sayin’ 😉
Jardins d’Armide by Oriza L. Legrand is my choice today. Many say it is the most challenging of the new Legrand releases, but it is the one that I like best.
I love this and bought a full bottle a few months ago. It was instant love despite the fact that I’m not really a rose girl (and in less than 4 months I bought both this and Rozy)
I’m in Chanel Beige today. Since I spent the weekend rounding up samples and decants, I thought it prudent to use some of this stuff up! The sprayer on my decant wasn’t working, so I transferred contents into a smaller bottle, appropriately scenting myself in the process. I like Beige – it’s office friendly and rather pretty. It would be so nice if this came in a travel size – 10ml or 15ml sprays. That would be the perfect size.
Happy Birthday to the Birthday peeps above! You smell marvelous!
Love that everyone is breathing a sigh of relief from the Signature Scent challenge. Variety is the way to go!
I wish all the Chanel les exclusifs came in smaller sizes. I would love a travel set like Hermes does!
I second that!
Thirded!!
It would be nice if they sold a discovery set, or even “wardrobe” like they do with their classics.
Now that’s just plain crazy. Why would I want a wardrobe of several scents when I can just get a mondo bottle instead? It’s not like we’re multi-faceted or anything. One scent, one giant bottle is all we really need.
😉
SOTD is Chanel No 19, keeping with my Iris week. It’s perfect for the transition to fall weather – cool, cloudy but not overcast, and a bit melancholy because summer is over.
Yeah 19!
Scent twins today. I do love me my no. 19, although today I was wishing I was wearing something a little more sweet, light-hearted and carefree. I’ll have to see what I come up with tomorrow.
SOTD is Chanel’s Cristalle. It’s a nice fragrance. One of my new bottles. I’m pleased with it.
Cristalle was my go – to fragrance this summer. I never regret wearing it. So glad you like it!
Dabbed on Infusion d’Iris this morning. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get out of bed in the morning, which means I stay later at work, etc etc. Also, I hate mornings, so getting out of bed requires self discipline and I just don’t have that all the time.
Phew! Vent over.
Good morning, all 🙂
PDN Vie de Chateau Intense for me today. I had forgotten how much I like this one!
SOTD is Prada Eaude Parfum Tendre. I’ve been going through my sample basket and trying things lately and I don’t recall seeing this in stores or hearing anything about it on the blogs. I found Robin’s review and decided it sould be a nice summy perfume and I like it – doesn’t seem to match with the other Prada fragrances, but that’s OK with me.
Today was cloudy and dismal, cheered myself up with Mona Di Orio Vetyver, very nice but the cost of a full bottle is quite dear. I shall enjoy my sample…….
I put on a pre-shower slosh of ELdO Eloge du Traitre and maybe it was just me but it smelled more or less exactly like a pine-tree-shaped car air freshener, so afterwards I decided to wear their Antihéros instead: lavender lavender lavender.
Vintage Miss Dior (houndstooth label bottle) was calling my name today so I succumbed. I always associate this scent with fall because my mother gave me a bottle as a back-to-school gift one autumn.
And very happy birthdays to all of the celebratees!
Testing SL L’Orpheline. I have to admit that I enjoy it (quirky, dry, not complicated …). I ordered more samples just to make sure … maybe all the negative reviews are right? but for me this has a potential to turn into a FB.
I enjoyed my sample but eventually decided that the scent was too faint and wispy for me. Hope it does better for you.
Glad to hear that you also enjoyed the sample! I ordered additional 3ml in a spray, so we’ll see. What I also like about this one is that it surprises me through the day with sudden appearances — fun!
Ha, at first, I read that you enjoyed “quirky, dry rot, complicated” and I couldn’t believe you were describing L’Orpheline. i tried this on skin (yahoo, no rash) at Twisted Lily a few weeks back and I liked how “steady” it was. I have a sample and will revisit. I guess we’ll count ourselves as unique for liking this one!
yay for unique + no rash!
(as I continue to smell this today, I am thinking that my “dry” descriptor wasn’t really a good one. there is definitely a dry side but also a cologne-like part … hm, maybe I like that one a bit less … will continue testing)
Wearing ELdO Vraie Blonde today. I wanted to smell like cocoa and ginger ale this morning, I guess. 🙂
Finally settled on…Mythique again! I am really groovin’ on it. I was going to wear Chergui but it’s a little too hot. I feel like this may be my lucky scent because I got a call for a job interview today. Woohoo! Fingers crossed!
Does anyone have any scents that they feel are “lucky”? How about fragrance at a job interview? Thoughts? I think I will wear Balenciaga Paris or Infusion D’Iris to mine. Just a hint.
If Mythique is lucky for you then I’d say wear it to the interview as well
Definitely just a hint of scent. The hint-iest hint there ever was, perhaps.
Over on Fragrantica, this is a super controversial topic.
I am rather conservative when it comes to interview wardrobe(and an also in a conservative field) so YMMV.
And possibly celebrate an interview job well done with a spritz or five afterward 😀
Good luck!!
Thanks, Nebbe! I think Mythique is the interview winner. Just a dab, to make me feel a bit more confident. I’m always torn, because I don’t want to offend anyone, but it’s so nice for me and makes me feel more myself.
You’ll smell great.
Don’t forget to practice your answers to “tell me about yourself” and misc behavioral interview questions if you think you will get those (“tell me about a time when you______”)
Do a Google search for the STAR and SHARE methods, if you haven’t heard of them yet. Powerful interviewing tools.
Also note that spending the least amount of time describing the situation you are in and the most time explaining your actions, the result and your takeaways is a great frame for responding to behavioral questions.
It’s easy to spend a bunch of words explaining the situation in detail, but what interviewers are really interested in is what steps you took to deliver a positive outcome (our what you learned from a challenging situation).
Hope this isn’t to much – this is an area of interest for me.
Not too much at all, greatly appreciated, actually. I am very nervous! It’s been a struggle getting an interview at all and it’s for a job that I REALLY want. I am googling STAR and SHARE right now!
Just received a package from Smell Bent. I was hoping this would be at my office when I got back from my vacation so I went commando this morning. First fragrance from this order is one of the Frankensmellies, Gardenia Oud. I don’t really like the smell of gardenias, but for some reason I’m really liking this one. Maybe it’s the oud.
SL Bas de Soie, a nice office scent for a nice office day, or so I am shooting for…
Buh bye Bvlgari Black. Today I’m wearing Rose Anonyme.
Wearing Chanel No.22 EDT. It is good but I don’t like it as much as some other aldehydic florals.
Today I had a looooonnnnggg lunch meeting, so it was Bottega Veneta, which really is just so nice. But now I need an evening scent. Hm. I think I need somthing with lavender to help get rid of my caffiene headache. Cheers!
Started the day with a sample of Korres Mountain Pepper Bergamot Coriander. It triggered an earworm of the theme from “Two and a Half Men.” Men. Men. Men. Men… Nice but boring. It would make a nice starter scent instead of Axe for a teen boy. It didn’t last, so I am now in Agonist Dark Saphir.
Lol. Reading your post triggered a completely different earworm for me, Martin Mull’s Men. Singing it is getting me very offended looks from Fat Bat the Cat. BTW, I haven’t tried Dark Saphir but have been meaning to sample the rest of the Agonist line. How is it? I’ve only tried Isis which is sticky sweet, which I usually don’t love, but strangely addictive.
Martin Mull! Wow! Tht is like a serious blast from the past! I got a set of all of them on eBay and I was really disappointed. This one is my favorite. I tend to like men’s scents, very green scents or I do a 180 and like big, in-your-face feminine scents like this one. The violet leaves in the beginning remind me a bit of those Howard’s violet candies in a good way.
Happy birthday to the celebratees and happy Tuesday everybody else :). Today and yesterday I spent with CdG Red Series: Harissa. It might go on the winter citrus scent list discussed earlier. On me it is a very juicy blood orange with lots of pulp. The spices are just the stage and the background.
And I am getting Red Carnation even though the longevity is anemic. 4 sprays from a sample atomizer lasted less than 30 minutes. I like it a LOT and I will have such a sense of accomplishment once I drain my bottle.
Interesting! On me it lasts and lasts and lasts. Sometimes I even get an allergic reaction from it if I spray at the same spot of skin for several days.
Happy Birthday, party people!
SOTD was Creed’s Fleurissimo–I had an initial appointment at a temp agency, so this seemed sufficiently safe and bland.
Tomorrow I have a real job interview, so probably Infusion d’Iris, or something along those lines.
Oooh, good luck missionista!
Knock ’em dead!
Sending good vibes!
Break a leg!!
Get it 😀
SOTD is Chanel Coco Noir. My grandparents brought it back from Paris for me today, and I was so excited
What a lovely gift! Enjoy!
Thank you!
I tested a sample of Vero Profumo Rozy voile d’extrait today with some trepidation: I did not care for the EdP, which smelled musty/dusty to me. To my amazement, the vd’e smelled like Caron Tabac Blond, for a couple of hours, at least. Softer, and sometimes more in a leather direction, but if someone had given me a blind sample, I would have guessed Tabac Blond.
Later that went away and it seemed like the skanky base of Onda extrait. Never very obviously rosy. Strange, I wonder if it was the weather or if my nose is wacky from mould or weed pollen, or something. I’ll have to try it again to see if the phenomenon repeats. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?
