Happy Monday! Do share your scent of the day.
I'm off on vacation and will spend most of the day on the nation's highways. I will be gone for two weeks, and so posting here will be somewhat lighter than usual.
I'm wearing a touch of Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Whipped Body Creme, but I cut it with my regular, unscented body lotion since it's so strong. I am not bringing much perfume with me, so I'll be wearing the Bronze Goddess more often than not.
Reminder: this Friday, the 18th, will be Sample Grab Bag: pick a fragrance at random from among your untried samples. The following Friday wear something by Hermès OR something by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

SotD is Prada Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger.
Phew, still so hot here.
I think we’re looking at thunderstorms…
We had some recently too!
SOTD is Eau de Cartier Concentree.
Nice! I really should buy some version of Eau de Cartier.
I like both this and the ‘standard’ Eau de Cartier.
Cartier Baiser Vole EDP. I have a very sick cat, so a rushed workday and then an early vet appointment, and somehow getting a little extra dressed up and putting on a prim perfume seemed like it would help.
Oh, do hope cat is better soon.
Get well wishes for your kitty and may the day get better for you.
Oh no. I hope kitty is ok and fixable. 🙁 it’s so horrible having helpless furry friends
Best wishes to poor kitty and to you!
Best of luck at the appointment. Please do come back tonight with an update!
Oh, so sorry about your kitty! Hope everything goes well and neither you nor your cat get overly stressed with the visit. (I have one cat that goes absolutely bonkers when we take him to the vet – compounding any sickness he may have.)
Hope your kitty is ok. There is nothing worse than a sick animal, makes one feel so helpless. Let us know how he/she is.
Hope kitty is ok…
I hope it’s nothing too serious with your kitty.
Am wearing Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil today, and it is very refreshing on a hot, muggy day.
I just bought the Bronze Goddess Whipped Body Creme, and am loving it! I agree with you, Robin, that it is strong, and I like your idea of cutting it with regular unscented body lotion. Makes it last longer, too 🙂
It’s sort of amazing how strong it is…if you put it on your whole body, the sillage is overwhelming to me. As always, EL delivers your money’s worth!
I like it better than the BG EdT. Have a wonderful vacation…you smell great!
Thank you! So far so good…almost no traffic today.
Jo Malone’s Nutmeg & Ginger. Body creme, followed with the cologne. Even with the layering, it all fades to a woodsy, slightly powdery whisper – certainly more nutmeg/”sandalwood” than ginger – in less than an hour but it’s well worth the effort. Smells wonderful.
I love Nutmeg & Ginger! I had a small decant that I gave to my mother (I don’t remember why now, because I’m missing it) and she smells wonderful in it.
I’ve been on a leather kick since Saturday, when I was choosing my perfume and wasn’t in the mood for fresh or bright and suddenly nothing but leather would do! I have been wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie all weekend; it is again my SOTD. I also ordered a bottle of Cuir de Lancome on ebay this weekend. It has been warm and muggy, but not hot, and the not so sweet leathers have been working really well.
Enjoy your two weeks off, Robin! Safe travels.
SOTD: Hermes Eau Des Merveilles…love that orange salty opening!
I think the shower gel on this one would be really great. I think I’ll see if I can find some.
We’re scent twins today! Have never tried the shower gel, but the body lotion is wonderful.
Robin, wishing you safe – and happy – travels.
Hello scent twin!
The body lotions really can pack a punch, but I simply do not have the patience for applying.
I see some sets on eBay, gel & lotion together, so I may do that after all and give them both a try.
The shower gels are so lovely at the end of a day.
I have shower gel and body cream. Neither are very long lasting but smell great while they do
Thank you!
Hi Robin! Enjoy your well deserved vacation! Happy Monday Everyone!
My SOTD is IKat Jasmine from Aerin Lauder. Its my favorite scent from the Aerin Lauder line. I never knew I was a fan of jasmine until I wore this scent. It’s just beautiful to me. Have a great day all. 🙂
Thanks, I will!
SOTD is Crabtree & Evelyn Summer Hill. I recently impulse-bought this fragrance because the packaging and name were so cute. It smells great too–like Lily of the Valley. A great, inexpensive buy!
One of my favorites! I don’t have the spray but I’ve been buying the hand cream for about 15 years. I also have padded hangers and drawer liners. It is a lovely, happy scent.
Lucy–if you have a Crabtree & Evelyn outlet anywhere near you, it might be worth the trip. I was at one in Orlando two weeks ago and they had a large number of their scents, normally $30, for $10! Also had matching hand creams and lotions, similarly marked down. I, unfortunately, got my nose all confused and purchased the one scent that I did not like on me. The good news: I googled it and found comparisons to Old Spice and, with that, I handed it over to my husband, who wears it happily! (It was Nantucket Briar, I think.)
It probably was Nantucket Briar, my (formerly) favorite C&E scent. I was just going to order another body lotion or two during their current friends and family sale, read the reviews online and was aghast that this, too, has recently been the subject of reformulation and now ‘stinks’ – numerous individuals compared it to Old Spice. C&E responded to the many posters who complained and finally admitted that the scent had been reformulated to give it a ‘modern twist.’ Ugh! Guess I’ll just have to eke out what I have left and say bye-bye to that one, too. Dang it!
Ooh, my Mom used to wear Summer Hill. Didn’t know they still made it. Will have to search out a bottle for the nostalgia.
SOTD Laura Biagiotti Roma. Wanted fresh AND cool and this fits the bill for both.
Has anyone tried the reformulated version of Venezia? I haven’t tried either but wondering if it’s been butchered to ‘don’t bother’ status, or just isn’t good anyway?
Fresh and WARM lol.
Oh gosh – I wore venetzia when I was about 23. I thought I was so exotic and mature and elegant! I haven’t smelled it in years, so I couldn’t say. It was (is?/should be?) a wonderful fragrance.
Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey. A bright, cheerful scent for a sleepy Monday morning.
Happy vacation, Robin! SOTD for me is AG Mandragore. It’s cool here today (high temp forecast is 63 degrees).
Thanks, and great pick!
SL Chergui, lovely sunny, windy weather.
Mmmm. One of my favorite Lutens.
Love it, only wear it in summer. My favourite Lutens is probably Sarrasins.
One of mine, too
Atelier Cologne’s Sous le Toit de Paris, for Bastille Day!
Too hot and humid for my taste, but I’m trying not to complain, after the mess of last winter…
I was thinking last night I need to get another decant of this one.
I really miss it!
Ditto on trying not to complain after the winter nyc had 😉
Since I talked up Rose Absolue this weekend I am wearing some today.
🙂
I’m wearing Guerlain Cologne Imperial today. I spritzed liberally in the morning and got dressed immediately, so some of it still lingers on my clothes. It’s really beautiful and reminds me of my grandmother (who didn’t wear perfume, but always smelled “clean”).
I love the lime and herbs in Imperial. I was dousing myself in that before July 4 when it was stinking hot…. I like to spray it on the sheets too before I get into bed… into the ceiling fan to get it around….
Sounds lovely to fall asleep in a cloud of Imperial, Ann! Thank you for pointing out the lime, I hadn’t realised that’s what the citrus is. Wearing it again today (tuesday) 🙂
Haven’t picked my SOTD yet, but it will probably be one of my hot-weather PdN stand-bys, Eau Exotique or Eau d’ete. Appropriate for Bastille Day!
Safe travels, Robin.
Both those PdN sound perfect for a hot hot day!
Thanks! So far so good.
I’m wearing Terracotta Le Parfum today. I really like the hit of Jasmine in this one. It’s become a regular favorite in my summer line up. I prefer this to Bronze Goddess even though there’s a lot of similarity between the two.
I’m trying out estee lauder Azuree today and it’s been interesting so far. I’m not sure I understand it yet, but I like it. I think.
Prada Infusion d’iris, just a couple dabs. Just enough to counteract the onset of vacation-itis that I expect to set in around 2pm!
And if that fails, my backup plan is a smoothie.
Happy Travels, Robin! Happy Monday to all.
SOTD: Dior Homme Eau for Men Dior for men
Have a wonderful vacation, Robin!
SOTD is MCMC Maui. Ginger, frangipani, and anise. Smells great in the heat!
We will, thanks!
Angel Les Parfums de Cuir. The weather is probably too warm and humid for it but I just wanted to smell that sugary-salty leather.
I just got a bottle of this over the weekend and have been wearing tiny dabs. Way to heavy for the 100 degrees we’ve been having to apply more than that. It’s a great leather and I can’t wait for cooler weather.
It really is interesting, isn’t it? Arguably better than Angel (less sweet, for one thing), and perfectly balanced between the leather and the other Angel-y elements. Great bottle, too.
This is my first “Angel” scent ever – can you believe it?! I love leather notes in my perfume, and the leatheriness of this scent is fantastic. You’re right – it doesn’t seem too sweet at all. A great find – the bottle is really beautiful!
I’m off to explore more Angel perfumes. I forsee a few more Angels in my collection in the future!
I love Angel edt & so inexpensive on the bay. I don’t care for the EDP. Fragnet has great prices, too.
Have an awesome vacation, Robin! No SotD yet cause I have a doc appt soon. Will report back afterwards. No idea yet what I’ll wear! 🙂
Soooo…decided on Missoni! A strange one, but I like it in the heat.
Thanks! And the Missoni is strange. Can’t remember if they’re still making it…but surprised they aren’t doing more fragrance.
Discontinued! Curious if they’ll come up with a new one…
Oh interesting. I just read that the perfume division of Missoni is owned by Estee Lauder companies.
Or, I should say “licensed” by Estee Lauder.
I’m wearing Chamade edt b/c it has been too long…. I wanted something to help me “stand up” today b/c I had to deal with some C&@* at work. … Chamade is the queen!
Oh my goodness, Chamade is *the best* for that kind of workday!! Hope things worked out!
Wearing Javanica from Olympic Orchids today– a spicy, slightly creamy floral with occasional flashes of root beer from my right wrist (huh?)
SOTD is Gucci Guilty Black. I was at Sephora the other day and got a mini with my Beauty Insider points, so it was basically free. It kind of smells like the Redken conditioner I’ve been using, but with a little extra woody note. It’s not bad, but I don’t see myself spending money on it.
Collecting vintage post cards was one of my hobbies in the 1970s and 1980s, and I still enjoy them. I’m especially fond of 1950s postcards like the one you selected, with those optimistic colors that don’t always seem merited by the scene. I used to look through boxes of them at flea markets and similar shops and pick the ones that conveyed a mysterious feeling. One of my favorites is a loop in a highway in the Appalachian Mountains that someone selected (why?) and sent to her grown-up son.
No perfume yet, since I have to go out in the sun soon. Joop! Rococco is on my mind for later, as a result of thinking yesterday about perfumes I met in duty free shops.
According to Fragrantica, it was composed by Benoist Lapouza and launched in 2000. With middle notes said to include magnolia, ginger, jasmine, heliotrope, ylang-ylang and rose, it seems like a cooler and more abstract descendent of Lagerfeld Chloe. However, it could also be the peachy color that links it to Chloe in my mind. 🙂
For some reason the pics remind me of the illustrations I used to have in my books as a child! Its that soft charm!
You’re in luck…the Boston Public Library on Flickr has an amazing collection of postcards from Mass, which is where I am the next 2 weeks. Found one for every day 🙂
I’ve bookmarked that link to perfuse at leisure – thanks!
Mass sounds intriguing. I am envious.
Nicely done, Robin!
Hello, everyone. Hope your weekends were good ones.
I’m wearing vintage Intimate from Revlon. The half-used bottle I found at an estate sale and it looks like it may have been carried in a purse for a while as it’s pretty beat up, but the juice is still amazing.
Continues to break my heart that we used to be able to buy beauties like this in the drugstores for $4-5 dollars waaaaay back in the day.
I have old Intimate too! One of my favorite vintage scents. You smell marvelous!
SOTD is Parfums de Nicolai Le Temps d’Un Fete. Its a new sample, the first PdN for me (I will be testing 5 or 6 from the line in the next week or so). It smells great, although may fade too quickly for me. Also I already have quite a few green florals (No. 19, Chamade, Vent Vert, Silences) so maybe I can live without a FB of this one. My problem is I am not very picky and most perfumes smell wonderful to me, so its hard to resist a FB of almost anything I sample (so long as its not outrageously expensive) and my collection is getting ridiculous!
I like the way you think! There are certainly worse ways to spend a little disposable income!
We’ve had a really warm sunny day with thunderstorms now in the evening. I’m wearing Neela Vermeire Mohur EDP and it’s been a perfect choice, it really blooms in the heat, just beautiful!
SOTD is CK One Summer. It is perfect for this hot, humid day.
Enjoy your vacation! Wearing Philosphy Falling in Love today. Fruity and simple – sweet blackberries and that is about it. It’s warm, overcast, and a bit muggy today. I also laugh when people here in SD say it’s humid, being from the DC area which is a swamp. But it is actually a bit humid today, as my hair is frizzing all over the place.
It is darned humid in PA lately, but I always remind myself that no place is as humid as DC 🙂
I started with Lann-Ael which I have decided it just ok. Maybe it is the heat but I’m not feeling it. I will be changing it up this evening.
Today I am wearing Scent Of Hope from DSH perfumes. It’s perfect for these 100 degree temps. Beautiful Iris blended with Peach and soft woods. Very Creamy.
SOTD A*Men Sunessence Orage d’Ete. My first scent from the Angel franchise – I got some carded samples on eBay a few months ago and when those are gone I may need to find an FB.
Love it especially right now because it’s blending so well with the scent of Chinese trumpet lilies from my garden.
Yesterday I put on K de Krizia from the bottle I got at Big Lots. I kept smelling the steam from the neighbors’ dryer…well, no. It was the pathetic dry down from the current formulation. Thinking of abandoning the bottle in a random ladies’ room or donating to a local charity shop…
That is a shame! K de Krizia was a favorite of mine in the mid – eighties. Really bold and rich. Puts me back in the bar at Nicky Blair’s, sipping a Champagne cocktail.
Today K is at the Lots, Blair’s is long gone and I’m sipping ice water. Oh, the humanity!
There is an interesting article on the Washington Post website by Joel Aschenbach about research indicating that friends tend to be unexpectedly genetically similar:
“Friends often look alike. The tendency of people to forge friendships with people of a similar appearance has been noted since the time of Plato. But now there is research suggesting that, to a striking degree, we tend to pick friends who are genetically similar to us in ways that go beyond superficial features.
“For example, you and your friends are likely to share certain genes associated with the sense of smell.
“Our friends are as similar to us genetically as you’d expect fourth cousins to be, according to the study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This means that the number of genetic markers shared by two friends is akin to what would be expected if they had the same great-great-great-grandparents.”
Could that mean that scent twins are long-lost fourth cousins, perhaps?
Irrefutably. Interesting info Nozknoz
Happy vacation, Robin! I’ll be in Boston for a few days this week! I hope the weather gets cooler because i don’t like walking around in the heat.
SOTD = Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles
This one is one of the most perfect perfumes around. I have a cute 50 mL bottle. One of my Hermes Merveilles flankers, i think the eau Claire, is 100 mLs and is way too big for my hand to comfortably spray so it is sitting forlornly in its box.
My vacation is in Mass too…first at a lake upstate and then at the Cape. So far does not look like stellar weather this week but will keep my fingers crossed.
Enjoy your trip to Boston!
Two SOTDs today: Trefle Pur in the morning, then when that wore off, Hermes Eau de Gentiane Blanche.
Today I packed up all my full bottles and larger decants in preparation for a cross-country move. That leaves me with only the little samplers for about 3 weeks, but I think I’ll make it. 🙂
Hope your vacation is awesome, Robin! I’m traveling for work right now and trying to pretend I’m on vacation — I had a mimosa with breakfast. 🙂 SOTD was Voile de Violette.
Ha, and I’m on real vacation and nobody served me a mimosa! Not fair 😉
Early SOTD was PdN Wit. Was trying it for the second time. I like it and received lots of complements. It has a very warm, vanilla-type base on me. Love, love the opening.
SOTD evening is Ann Gerard Rose Cut. It smells very similar to SSS Nostalgie on me, particularly in the beginning. Anyone else notice this? Beautiful though.
Happy vacation, Robin!
