Nicki Minaj Onika & Minajesty Exotic Edition ~ new perfumes

Posted by Robin on 11 June 2014 33 Comments

Nicki Minaj Onika

Singer Nicki Minaj will launch her third fragrance, Onika, in July. Also due that month is Minajesty Exotic Edition, a new flanker to 2013's Minajesty. So far, there is very little information available about either fragrance.

Onika (shown above) ~ per Ms. Minaj, Onika "SMELLS LIKE ANGELS IN THE GARDEN OF....perfection." I will update with notes when I can. Update: the notes feature pear, starfruit, mandarin, water lily, orchid, osmanthus, sugar cane, white musk and cedarwood.

Minajesty Exotic Edition (shown below) ~ Minajesty Exotic Edition is scheduled to debut on HSN on July 11. Again, I will update with notes when I can. Update: the notes feature mango, orange, tiger lilies, lavender, musk and cedar. In 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

“SMELLS LIKE ANGELS IN THE GARDEN OF….perfection.”? Umm, okay, no.

The angels in my garden of perfection are probably wearing something like Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle, but presumably Ms. Minaj’s angels have different ideas :-)

I could see that, although TC is awful on me – smells like rotting flowers in rancid water. When I think angels in the garden of perfection, I think of something like Juste un Reve.

SMELLS LIKE THROW AWAYS IN THE LAND OF…misfit toys.

SMELLS LIKE CLOWNS IN THE LAND OF…Oz

SMELLS LIKE GROUPIES IN THE LAND OF..One Direction.

Could slice this so many ways!

Minajesty was really sweet, but not bad otherwise. I’ll give this one a shot, why not?

I’m usually good at blocking out bottles, but these are so preposterous I haven’t yet tried anything from the range!

Whereas they’re growing on me, sorry to say.

I’m not sure I get the angle on these. Is it a kind of over-the-top kitsch-and-we-know-it vibe? Or are they supposed to be somehow enigmatic?

          • Robin says:
            11 June 2014 at 1:55 pm

Well, it’s over the top kitsch either way, right? Whether it’s meant that way or not. I seriously know absolutely nothing about Nicki Minaj or her fan base, so couldn’t say what it’s meant as.

          • Merlin says:
            11 June 2014 at 3:33 pm

lol! It seemed as though you were starting to like the bottles more than you had in the past, so I was wondering whether there was some aspect or angle that I was missing. I do like some things that are deliberately over the top, but these bottles simply strike me as monstrous:)

Regardless of the intended effect (given that I too am clueless about N. Minaj)

          • Robin says:
            11 June 2014 at 3:56 pm

I think it’s really just that I’ve liked some of the later color schemes better than the first one for Pink Friday. Also, now that it’s a series of them, it’s funnier to me…

All lined up on a shelf they must look quite funny!

You certainly can’t mistake them for anything else! There’s something to be said for having a distinctive and consistent aesthetic.

Keep it going! Although, I kinda like that sweet, toxic blast that hits you between doors one and two when entering the Maxx.

I thought of Raggity Ann doll/Ronald McDonald mixed with Madonna clone. Not my fave mix for sure! Creepy!

I see Truth or Dare now for like 15 bucks or less, what, nobody liked the creepy coffin bottle?

I still don’t really dare touching any one of these…
Does the hair come off or does the head come off when you spray it?
(hair just sounds so much more fun than wig :P)

Gosh. Have sprayed these from the tester, and can’t remember! I think it’s the head though.

I should probably find those bottles creepy but I think they’re fun, and a perfect fit for what I presume is the early-teens target market.

Now, the Anna Sui Dolly Girl bottles: those are super creepy to me.
