What's your fragrance today? I'm wearing Guerlain Jicky, because Rappleyea mentioned it yesterday. As you can see from the ad above, it's "for women of leisure — the world over". Hey, that's me! In smaller print next to the Jicky bottle it says "so enchanting, gay and witty, Jicky is the very breath of happiness". Can't beat that. (Next to Shalimar, it says "All the allure and enchantment of fabled India in one divine perfume".)
Reminder: tomorrow is our weekly community scent of the day. Let's all try to wear something by Chanel. If that doesn't work for you, no worries, do chime in anyway, we don't care!
The following week will be Friday the 13th — wear your own version of 'Eau de Protection', i.e. something that brings you good luck or otherwise makes you feel safe and happy.
SOTD is Halston Man.
Ah, wish I had a bottle of the original Halston Woman! But last time I smelled it it was too changed.
The current Halston Classic (I bought mine about a year or two agao) was my gateway to chypres and is still one of my favorites. It was the first perfume with a moss note (whether it contains ‘real’ moss or not) that I found appealing. The peach in it really glows for me – while I still struggle with Mitsouko!
Happy Thursday! I’m wearing Cartier Baiser Vole EDP and seriously considering turning in some credit card points to get a bottle of the EDT as well.
go for it–actually much prefer the edt, and it’s a nice bottle to boot
Real question: does your response change if I’m supposed to be hoarding my points for a FB of Comme des Garcons Avignon?
Mine would! Go, Avignon!
Avignon is so perfect. Self-control is the worst!
alas, not familiar with Avignon…
Ah well thanks for your enabling! I wouldn’t be surprised to find myself holding both one day fairly soon.
I want some BV too. Still pissed I have Panthere instead.
Your comment makes me laugh. I read your review of Panthere and I can totally understand why you did go and buy a FB. You’ll get your BV someday. Make someone give it to you as a present. They used to have the 30 ml bottle at fragrance net for not so much money which is how I broke down and got mine last summer. It’s one of the few bottles I bought last year. It is worth it!
LOL…but I want fragrancenet to refund the money for the Panthere! (even though I did not buy it there. I’m just sulking)
You should just do a Robin only APB swap for your BV. There was someone on the PP swapmania who was trying to unload a bottle of BV edt. It’s not the same as the edp, but you never know …. Just saying 😉
Ha, I should.
I tried to do some perfume math by which the fact that I’m not tempted by the Lys Rose version means I’ve earned the EDT… let me run the numbers once more, I’ve almost proved it!
Pretty sure that adds up.
Do not despair! Cartier Baiser Vole has been spotted at TJ Maxx and Marshalls nationwide! Try your local TJ Maxx Homestore, I saw at least 5 bottles( the big size)EDT there last week!
I’m sitting on some points too that I’m thinking of putting to use for a new bottle of something!
I love BV, but especially the edt for its greenness.
My new bottle of Baiser Vole EDP arrived in the mail yesterday and I have happily been wearing that today. Now, after reading your comment, I am really interested in sniffing the EDT. There are very few fragrances that I love enough to buy both EDP and EDT, I think I only have done that with Shalimar.
Both the lighter , greener EDT and the richer, sweeter Essence version are beautifully crafted. I would wear any of them. Also (I’m sure the extrait is also divine, but I’ve never smelled it.)
I have both – mini bottle of BV EDP (thanks Ari – how’s your cat enjoying that stroller?!) and the mondo bottle of EDT that I bought on the spot. I love love love the EDT in the summer. It’s a touch sweeter and a touch bubblier? Just seems more effervescent to me. Both are lovely!
SOTD is Nudite Intense. A very light Egyptian musk type perfume oil. Long lasting but very sheer. Layered with the body cream of the same scent to give it a little more ooomph!
Fun, I like Egyptian Musk. Who makes it?
Robin, far as I can tell, it’s made by a company named Fusion Brands. Fusion Brands is also the maker of Memoire Liquide Bespoke Collection (fragrance) and a color cosmetic line whose name escapes me. Nudite Intense is on Amazon but there’s a set available (body cream and fragrance pen that should outlast me) on the bay for cheap – that’s where I scored mine.
Oh, interesting…did not know they made other stuff, will check it out. Thanks!
Shades of Smiley Muffin: “I’m nude!” And not just nude, but INTENSELY nude…
I was thinking the same thing. Like “Man, that is some *intense* nudity right there.”
SOTD is AA Tutti Kiwi – perfect for a hot and humid Thursday. It get no love from perfumistas, but it is a summer fragrance that really works in East Texas.
If it gets love from you, it gets at least some love from perfumistas, right? I still say the AA Mandarine Basilic is better than many much more expensive orange scents.
I’m wearing Violet Blond, and kinda wishing I’d picked something else this morning.
Love the Guerlain ad!
Isn’t that fun? Love the matching hats.
I just read on Perfume Shrine that violet blonde is being discontinued and I’m wondering if I should make up my mind to buy it.
Yikes! It’s been on my limbo list since it came out….!!! ARGH! What is a frag hag to do?
Split, obviously!
AnnS and Coumarin, I have a big bottle and would be happy to share. Just ordered decanting supplies, so let me know if you are interested at agd at veloce dot com.
anngd: well, let me think about this nice option. I’ll email!
I’m wondering how certain it is that it is going to be discontinued. I saw that article but would like further confirmation…
sometimes I wonder if they put out these rumors just to boost sales….
I guess time will tell!
Wearing from my sample of Santal Massoia, warm and elegant. I can’t see buying a full bottle, but an inclusion in a travel set? I’m overdue for one, I think.
Just left my doctor with a likely diagnosis of a kidney stone. Wish me luck, friends!
Oh, wish you tons of luck!
Thank you. On my way to a urologist.
Sending positive vibes and good thoughts your way that all goes well for you.
Thank you so much!
Ouch! 🙁 Feel better soon.
Thank you! I’ve been prescribed some opiates at cannot wait to get off work!
Ouch!!Hope ur a-OK!….sending positive vibes too!
I appreciate them, thank you!
Wishing you the best of luck and a speedy recovery, my friend.
I appreciate it!
Owie! Hope it goes away soon.
I was craving white flowers, so put on a little Cuir de Gardenia extrait. I think later I’ll put on more of a pure tuberose.
Such a great scent, wish I had a bottle.
Mandarina Duck original scent today. It’s such a cheerful, citrus-y thing. Just a bottle of happiness. 🙂
Nice!
SOTD is Terre d’Hermes. Thought it would work for the warm, humid, rainy day we are having here.
I am so excited about the community SOTD tomorrow! I recently bought some Chanel samples to become more acquainted with the brand. I am having a hard time deciding between ones I have tried and like (Coco, Crystalle, Sycomore, or Cuir de Russie) or going for one I haven’t really tried yet.
Those are all good choices — go with the weather! If it’s warm and humid again, Coco or Cuir Russie might be too much.
My scent of the day faded so quickly that I guess it’s a sign that I should go do some sampling after I get off work. I started with a sample of Magnolia Verano from Exotic Island Perfumer and I’m a bit surprised at how fast it faded because the others in the sample pack lasted a good long while
Definitely a very clear Go Sample sign. Go for it! 😉
What I sampled–Terracotta, Velvet Orchid and Reem Acra, none of which are scrubbers
Amaranthine today, since I have neglected it lately, so I am enjoying it’s floral creaminess all over again.
Oh, I love Amaranthine, but for some reason never bought a FB.
I heard rumours of discontinuation, though, and am wondering if
a) they are true;
b) I should proceed with a FB purchase!
That drydown is really swoonworthy isnt it?
I have the impression that they are phasing it out, but maybe you’ll find it in some sales bin? Or does someone know otherwise? I consider myself lucky to have a bottle!
SOTD is Osmanthus Interdite, although it has faded by now.
Such a pretty one, wish I had a bottle of that too.
After Jessica’s incredible review of Guerlain Terracotta le Parfum, limited edition, I’ve been on a quest to find it – more difficult than you might think. Although none for sale at my local Nordstrom, the SA provided me with a very generous sample. So pretty, so summery, and unfortunately so very limited edition!
Have you tried the Guerlain boutique in Vegas? They usually have everything.
I think I got the last bottle anywhere! I called Vegas last night and they’re out. Called several stores locally and found one at my local Dillard’s. I Bolted out the door last night at 8:23pm to pick it up before they closed! Yay!
Not surprisingly, Terracotta is my SOTD today. I love it. More jasmine/floral than Bronze Goddess which I like better. Perfect summer scent! And, 5 hours in I can still smell it! That’s a long time for me as normally scents are nearly gone by lunchtime on me.
got mine a few weeks ago at N-M–the SA told me that her store was only allotted 2 bottles. I guess they really want to make us chase down their limited eds. Agree, it’s a lovely and quite long-lived for an edt.
Debenhams in the UK had it this morning, Escentual had sold out. I’ve given up. Maybe the US will get more later, but of course maybe not.
Was just in my local Saks and they have two left if you want me to grab you one after I eat lunch
I’m wearing Rance L’Aigle de la Victoire but I’m a bit sick because of it. Bay leaf & oud don’t smell good on me…
What a strange combination. I can’t really imagine it smelling good period?
Simple pleasures for me today: roses in bloom, strawberries ripening, wearing Coty’s Wild Roseberries edt from a few years ago – “Dreamy rose, muguet, and sweet summer berries. Modern. Rich. Romantic.” A very enjoyable cheapie non-perfumista scent.
And don’t you know, that’s exactly what I looked like yesterday wearing my Jicky! 😉
Today I’m in another favorite Guerlain for this time of the year: Chamade (vintage extrait if I may be obnoxious and brag a little).
Chamade is awesome, and brag away! I haven’t been wearing Chamade as much as I should recently. It is one of my top 5 HG frags.
I third Chamade’s awesomeness and brag-worthyness!
I never smelled the vintage, but love love love my current extrait.
My only reserve is for the heart-shaped bottle: I much prefer other Guerlain designs, especially the classics!
And the black tortoise, anyone?
The bee?
The snail?
Awww….
I also have the current version (brushed gold box), and either I’m a total heathen or there just isn’t that much difference between the two. I’ve read comments about the top not being as green, etc., etc., but it just made me disappointed that I spent the $$ for vintage!
IMHO there is no perceptible difference between vintage and recent Chamade. I have some old lyre bottle Chamade from the early 70s and some edt from the 2000s, and some vintage and not so vintage extrait. They pretty much all smell the same with the exception that the extrait is just “richer”. I’ve not smelled whatever is the newest version, so I can’t say about that.
You have me wishing I’d put on Chamade.
Wow! Robin yesterday with the Jicky and now you today! I never thought of myself as a trendsetter! 😀
We should have a “wear what Rappleyea is wearing day”.
Choking on my tea!!!
Sold, though sadly my Guerlain samples are long dry.
Okay, you got me to put on Chamade for my SOTD now. In my case, it’s a vintage pdt.
Nice! I don’t have it in the pdt.
Today I’m wearing Shal Nuur. Aah. So lovely. It’s cool and damp here today, so it’s helping me wish I was somewhere warm and exotic instead.
See you all tomorrow with Chanel bells on!
Oh yes!Looking forward to Chanel-Friday(s!!!);-))
cheers 🙂
O here’s my fairy-freebie-Godmother!!;-))
I was about to wear Chamade, like Rappleya, but then decided I should wear a bit of attrape coeur, for a change. I never wear it in hot weather, after a bad experience in summer I usually reach for it in november/december, but have been really enjoying it’s creamy and woody-fruity violets all day long.
But I keep asking myself how many days to Xmas yet? ;P
Today felt like Christmas when I received my freebie package!!;-))
Congrats on your samples! Tell us if you find some treasures!
202.
Only 21 days ’til half-Christmas. Doesn’t everyone celebrate that?
LOL!!
I didn’t think about that!
I have very few perfumes which are season/occasion specific, but for those I seldom break my own rules, so it feels odd to smell like I do during December holidays in June!!
But if it is almost half-Xmas, then I am excused!
I celebrate my half-birthday, and Christmas in July. 😉 Any excuse to treat myself!
SOTD is La Petit Robe Noire and additionally, a spritz of Insolence on the back of my hand.
Wearing Bollywood or Bust today, for a pretty rose/wood combo. I never thought I was a pretty-bottle person, but goodness, I’ve had nicer-looking decant bottles than Smell Bent. I should be relieved it’s at least a glass bottle..?
Wearing DK Cashmere Mist Liquid Nude. Having a somewhat long week and leaning on its comfort and solid longevity. Just until I can get to happy hour.
Good day NST people!SOTD Frederic Malle Geranium Pour Monsieur!Great longevity,work-friendly sillage. It was a great day,as my freebiemeet package arrived today!!Thank you Ula!:-))
Geranium Pour Monsieur is heavenly stuff! I love it on my boyfriend and bought him a bottle, but he’s a heavy applier! 50ml gone in three months! 🙂
SOTD is a discreet application of Fou d’Absinthe
Jicky is one of the classics that I try to like but don’t. I put it on every now and then for reference and just to see if my nose has changed.
Sampling Lubin Korrigan today. LT, quoting someone else, said it makes him want to “eat, f*** and be it.” I think I’d have to reserve that accolade for chocolate. 🙂
Hahaha!!Yes Turin seldom minces his words or opinions!Gotta love that!
Jicky is perhaps the only Guerlain I don’t like or cannot wear. It is so super smelly funky to me, that I just can’t do it. I get 5 day old mowing the lawn with no deoderant work shirt.
That’s probably the civet. Lavender is a challenging note for me, anyway; douse it with civet and my nose simply panics.
But I had a similar reaction to Shalimar, which I now love, so I keep thinking one day my nose will adapt to Jicky, too.
SOTD is JM Blackberry and Bay. I thought it would be pleasant during a doctor’s appointment this morning, but for some reason it’s just not doing it for me. I think I like this one better in cool weather. Not that it’s hot today, I’ve been blessed with a completely sunny, slightly breezy 70 degrees. It’s one of the most perfect days I have had the fortune to experience. I just wish I had picked a better fit for the weather and my mood. Of course, if I do that I’ll end up in Eau de Marveilles every day.
If I didn’t have so many bottles patiently awaiting their turn, I would join you in wearing Eau des Merveilles every day!
Wearing Le Temps d’une Fête right now.
I’ve tried a lot of the classic Guerlains, but for some reason a lot of them don’t seem to work for me… the only one that I really like is Chamade. I wonder if it’s the “Guerlinade” that is the issue, since some of their newer releases that I like seem not to have that (e.g. Insolence which I don’t care for vs. Idylle which I like). I kind of feel like a bad perfumista saying that though!
There’s no such thing as a bad perfumista. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it! There is no wonder if you like Temps d’une Fete that you like Chamade – they are galbanum sisters. You smell great! You should try Annick Goutal Heure Exquise and also Chanel No 19 – they all have that wonderful galbanum and white flowers thing going on.
SOTD = Chanel Bois des Iles Parfum Extrait layered with EDT. Longevity is just slightly better than straight EDT. I will need to experiment further for the perfect proportion.
I sometimes do this too!
(I was planning this very combination for tomorrow, Chanel day;))
So I am not the only one to find BDI a bit fleeting…
I must say that the extrait smelled much richer from the tester in the shop, than in the bottle I got there.
I hope it will get more *ooomph* with age…
I usually dab the extrait on the wrists and add one spray of the edt towards my clothes/hair. What’s your recipe?
My normal method of applying perfumes is to spray and walk into the mist which I did with the EDT. I decanted the extrait to a vial and used the dipstick to run it through my hair. It did last longer but I am still not 100% satisfied.
My next recipe, and I know this is probably sacrilegious, is to empty that extrait vial into my atomizer which has about 8 mLs of the EDT left to create an extrait spiked EDT. I don’t know when I’ll do this but this is the plan.
Joining in for the second time – I’m wearing my new VCA Bois d’Iris and feeling rather elegant about it. I think the fragrance is more stately than I am, but for the time being, I’ll pretend I’m this sophisticated too.
Welcome back!
🙂
Congrats on your first (or 2nd?) wearing!
In Bois de Iris you ARE stately:)
Thank you! I’m trying my best, but the klutziness will show itself soon I’m sure. I’ll just be a stately-smelling klutz. 🙂
I’m wearing the original Fendi, vintage perfume. Happy almost Friday! xoxo
I LOVE that one.
Someone wearing the original Fendi can get me to do anything!
You smell wonderful! Love original Fendi – it was my signature scent for many, many years. Have only a tiny bit left myself.
Original Fendi is in a class all by itself. You think if one of the big houses launched it today, it would be another revelation. Cheers!
I love Jicky by the way, Robin, you smell fantastic!
Thank you 🙂
Everyone smells amazing! Today I am wearing SSS Jour Ensoileille for the first time in a very long time. I forgot how little it takes to make an impact (did I really use two sprays of this before???). I also forgot how beautiful it is! Happy Friday eve!
Love SSS Jour Ensoileille. It does pack quite a punch and is so beautiful.
You smell great (from across the room
Half of my comment seems not to have posted. After my lame joke I meant to say what a gorgeous choice you made. I love JE.
SOTD is Tauer Parfums une Rose Chyprée in the humid thundery weather we have here. It’s lovely, just like everyone said! In the morning I applied it lightly and got a lot of incense but when I re-applied around lunch, more liberally, I got a lot more rose. It’s wonderful stuff, I wonder if I’ll ever be able to get a full bottle…
SO divine. I’m buying an explorer set of Tauers as soon as my samples run out, for sure.
Ooo, I love Une Rose Chyprée! My favorite from him I think is still Incense Rosé, but that one is probably second out of what I’ve tried.
I almost added Incense Rosé to my sample order but then I added Rose Vermeille instead. Probably would’ve liked the incense better!
Explorer set sounds like a great idea, I’m gonna have to check it out.
A bit stuck on Opus 1. And recommendations for Chanel tomorrow? No. 5 does not like me, and I don’t like Coco. Can’t remember much about 19 and 22 reminds me of someone I’m not terribly find of. What to do?
That would leave my two favorites: Bois des Isles or Cuir de Russie!
Sorry about the typo. I meant fond of.
Both sound wonderful – plotting to get out of work and to the Chanel boutique! Thanks Rappleyea!
Try to get some samples of Bel Respiro or the Cologne. If you can’t wear either of them….well, they are pretty lovely and basic. Good luck!
Good Day NST family. My SOTD is “Flora” by Gucci. It was a random grab from my “box of samples”. Flora is so not me. It doesn’t smell bad, just not a scent I would actually purchase. I am going to look up the notes to see what’s in it that I just don’t really care for. Another way I know this wasn’t the one for me is because I didn’t receive any compliments. It made me feel sad. 🙁
Oh well, I guess that’s the only way to see if you like something; testing it out.
Hope everyone is having a Terrific Thursday!
Sorry to hear flora didn’t work out for you (it didn’t work for me either)…but you are right, you don’t know until you try!!
And the funny thing is when I looked up the notes this fragrance had, peony was one of them. Peony is one of my favorite notes. Never thought I would run across a fragrance with peony in it that I wouldn’t like.
I am suspicious of “peony” as a listed note — sometimes it’s the real lovely thing, of course, but it seems like marketing shorthand for “vague, scrubbed-clean florals that don’t smell like much of anything except budget cutbacks” in many instances.
I would love it if someone actually had the nerve to list Budget Cutbacks as a note. Seems like it’s present in 99% of mass market scents.
It sounds like you nearly always get compliments on your perfume! Thats really nice!
Sometimes I think my natural bad smell must just seep through everything I ever spray on. Or else that my body simply neutralizes everything I spray…
Ha! Merlin, I love this! I’d love to hear from people what they perceive to be their natural skin scent. Although … considering this target group, it’s quite possible most of us have not experienced that in a while.
You mean in that two minute gap between having a shower and spritzing? 😉
But seriously, if receiving no spontaneous compliments meant that a perfume was not for me – well then I would hardly own a single scent!
Conversely, if receiving spontaneous compliments means that a perfume is for you, imagine what you might end up wearing!
Bacon on my head? Lol!
Wearing Ormonde Jayne’s Tiare today. I bought their Discovery Set and have slowly been working my way through them. I liked Tolu very much but the others—meh so far. Tiare is not transporting me to a tropical isle; instead, I feel like I’m in a pub with a citrus-based drink in front of me, and a paper umbrella to convey that “vacation” vibe. I wanted an over-the-top, voluptuous, lush, creamy scent but instead I get citrus, greens, and wood.
I think this one is going in the swap pile.
Don’t give up too fast, OJs are not necessary love-at-first-sniff scents, I had to try OJ woman at least 5 times before appreciating it, now I have a full bottle.
CdG Champaca LUXE. I tend to save it for rainy days.
SOTD is Ormonde Jayne Frangipani. The blast of citrus in the opening is so energizing. And it is so pretty and joyfull! It is my 2nd sample, and I only have a few drops left. Buy a FB?
Yep. If I make it to the bottom of two samples it goes on the FB list. I need no further justification.
SOTD is Parfumerie Generale Djhenne. Love it and I get so many compliments on it. Just wish it weren’t quite so pricey.
I’ve been wearing Annick Goutal Grand Amour (EDP) all day, and I can still smell it (it smells fabulous). This is unusual – must be the 10 or so sprays I put on this morning. Looking forward to Chanel tomorrow, although I’m not sure which to choose . . .
I’m wearing Cuir de Lancome after reading so many good things about it… and I love it. I can’t believe how reasonably priced this is. It smells like it should cost a fortune. Anyway, so happy to have found it.
Trying to think what Chanel I can wear tomorrow. I think I’ve only got samples of Sycomore, 32 and a decant of 31 rue cambon — I really like those exclusifs. It would be so lovely to have the Jersey perfume.. sigh.
AG L’Eau Hadrien – loving it lately. I have the body lotion too, so layered it with good effect. It has a lovely salty aspect to my nose: slightly sweet lemon juice with a good dash of salt
Pear + Olive. I keep forgetting how much I love it after the pear settles the heck down and how pervasive is the sillage. Several patients asked what smelled good from across the room today so I may need to put a note on the bottle to spray lightly in case I get a complaint.
Oh! I love Pear and Olive! Maybe I’ll wear that on Saturday (since tomorrow is Chanel Day). You smell marvelous!
Wearing No 22 Chanel so I will have two consecutive days of loveliness. More tomorrow.
Wore Chamade extrait yesterday but for some reason I just wasn’t enjoying it, so I switched to Guerlain Metallica in the evening – ah! Much better. Today is Guerlain again, Mon Precieux Nectar. So almondy good!
SOTD is Shalimar eau legere which I love.
Today was Vetiver Tonka day for me. Geez I love this one, so bracing yet cozy at the same time. If I could go back in time, I would have gotten 4 of them in the travel set instead of just the one. I’m doling out my last few ml and it makes me a bit sad that it will all be gone soon.
Oh yes and super excited about Chanel day tomorrow. What to choose, what to choose…
I am continuing to work through some samples from Arcana, and my SOTD is their Philtre #2 Adoration. The black and white pepper notes last most of the day, which is nice. I usually hate the taste and smell of white pepper in food, but it’s OK in this perfume.
Trying out a sample of Agonist Black Amber today. I think it’s the wrong time of year for it. Or maybe it’s just not working for me today.. I don’t know. The fact that I’ve had a headache all day (not perfume-related) probably isn’t helping. It’s very frankincense-y, and pretty herbal in the opening. I’ve been working from home today, and I keep getting a whiff of something really nice from the multitude of samples strewn on the coffee table in front of me, but I don’t know which one it’s coming from. Whatever it is, I wish I’d worn that one.
