Perfume in the magazines, February 2014: Allure

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2014 9 Comments

Allure, Feb 2014 Jennifer Connelly

(Scanty, again) perfume coverage in the February issue of Allure. Please comment on any fragrance-related coverage you've seen in other fashion and beauty magazines!

Allure

Cover: Jennifer Connelly (had to google her)

Scent strips: Dolce & Gabbana The One & The One for Men, Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, Calvin Klein Euphoria.

Editorial coverage: The Beauty Reporter section includes not a word about fragrance — pretty sure that's never happened in all the time I've been subscribing. Frederic Malle's column, The Fragrance Guy, is called True Colors and is about the colors he sees when he smells various perfumes: Chanel No. 5 is yellow, Dior Diorissimo is green (p. 94). That's it!

I just picked up the February Vogue and it had a Coco Mme scent strip but no editorial coverage that I noticed.

It’s not exactly a beauty magazine, but Traditional Home had “va-va voom” perfume recommendations from Pamela Vaile to go with their coverage of the Hollywood glam furniture style. Her recommendations for perfumes were Chanel No. 5, Frederick Malle Portrait of a Lady, Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan, Killian’s Rose Oud, Jean Patou Joy and Guerlain’s Shalimar.

That’s much classier perfume coverage than we usually get in actual beauty magazines.

Was just looking at this issue of Allure, and in the Fashion Sense/user’s guide to style section, they poll different wearers of the same jacket about their favorite things. I thought I’d never heard of one of the fragrances mentioned–Orange Blossom by Coqui Cocqui. So I googled it, and sure enough, found a review by Kevin!

That’s so funny! And I totally missed it.

More magazine has no frag coverage at all this month, either editorial or ads. How dare they?!

Sorry! Allure isn’t all that hot either this year, so far…
