Christian Dior Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum & Fahrenheit Parfum ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 16 January 2014 20 Comments

Christian Dior Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum & Fahrenheit Parfum

Christian Dior has launched a new Eau de Parfum concentration of 1998's Hypnotic Poison (not the first, mind you) and a new Parfum concentration of 1988's Fahrenheit.

Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum ~ "Seeped in extreme natural tones, Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum draws its strength from powerful absolutes. The lush charm of sambac jasmine absolute mingled with a welcoming orange blossom absolute is wrapped in smooth, intensely evocative tonka bean. The round licorice note behind the seductiveness of Hypnotic Poison is boosted to new, bolder heights. It creates irresistible appeal empowered by the vanilla, an immediate sign of gratitude. An atmosphere of total deliciousness reign... The bottle of Hypnotic Poison - fragrance of mystery - is an absolute icon. A sultry incarnation of the forbidden fruit. Tempting red apple. Its glass appears possessed with molten lava." In 50 and 100 ml.

Fahrenheit Parfum ~ "Fahrenheit Parfum, the new intensity. A harmony of opposites to combine strength and elegance. The fragrance dons a vibrant and sensual accord, featuring violet and leather accents enhanced with Bourbon vanilla absolute. The irresistible appeal of a unique fragrance heightened by precious ingredients." In 75 ml.

Both fragrances can be found now at Debenhams in the UK.

The one thing I can never understand about doing a parfum in a man’s scent: it’s a brilliant idea, but why these huge bottles? Terre d’Hermès parfum actually comes in a 200-mL spray, which is insane. I was expecting Fahrenheit to be no more than an ounce, but they have to do two and a half?

Still, I’m dying to try it.

I suppose men don’t have the same experience/attitude towards extrait as women? And won’t buy small bottles of a mainstream scent? Don’t know.

I think you’re right, although I figure a man who’s comfortable buying parfum is going to be a little more comfortable with a non-traditional presentation. I wasn’t necessarily expecting the classic quarter-ounce or half-ounce with a stopper: I was just surprised to see a vat of extrait. (75 mL of anything except cologne is a lot, to me.) I really thought from the picture that they were doing a one-ounce bottle.

Yes on more parfum concentrations for men AND smaller bottles (I’m thinking <= 30ml). The Fahrenheit sounds nice, but I will likely never encounter it.

I prefer the bigger bottles instead of the small ones, since the price per ml is usually better. It’s not so common today, but you find some feminine parfums that were made in the past in sizes bigger than 1 ounce (which i think is too little to me, i feel more comfortable with a 50ml bottle).

More licorice, will it be like the Elixir version, I wonder? Funny how apple is seen as the forbidden fruit. If it’s referring to the biblical fruit, there is actually no mention of apple in the Bible. Apples are good though!

I will definitely be checking the HP out, thanks Robin!

No idea. I am annoyed to see that in my review of HP I did not mention concentration, I know they’ve done EdPs in the past.

Fwiw, the Elixir is an Edp.

I’m hoping for a stronger Fahrenheit and not something too overdone and sweet as the reformulated Dior Homme Intense, which went from lady leather bag with lipstick smell (the best), to overpowdered expired Shalimar.

Yes…will be interesting to see how much they’ve reworked these. Assuming I ever see them…have not investigated & don’t know if they are / will be in the US at all.

I do wish that I lived in the U.K. at times, just for the perfume releases.

Fahrenheit already has too much leather for me..I can’t imagine any more!

If you pump up the licorice, will it still smell like play-doh? The Hypnotic Poison, mind you. Is it not tragic that I have nothing of substance to contribute to this….I shall try to sharpen my intellectual sword as the day unfolds with another cup of coffee!

Play-doh? I get root beer from it, the Elixir is a little more spicy and I love it..don’t get play-doh from that one either.

Perhaps that note that your nose reads as root beer, mine reads as play-doh? It is one of my favorite fragrances and clearly you love it too.

Vanilla does not belong in Fahrenheit. This is a travesty.

…I’m still going to smell it, of course, but I’ll be sniffing haughtily, skeptically, and condescendingly. When is it scheduled to arrive in North America, btw? I want to plan my skeptical sniffing.

This is exciting news for me! I hope Hypnotic Poison EDP is coming to the U.S. I bought the limited edition Eau de Parfum of Hypnotic Poison in the bottle with the beads when it first launched here. I could not believe they never came out with the EDP in the regular line. Every couple of years, I would go to the counter to see if they came had the EDP and the salesperson didn’t know what I was talking about. I just couldn’t do EDT after having the EDP. I have been hoarding my bottle ever since. I’m glad to know they finally are finally coming out with it.
