Perfume in the magazines, September 2013: Allure, Details & GQ

Posted by Robin on 3 September 2013 10 Comments

magazine covers, september 2013

Perfume coverage in the July issues of Allure, Details and GQ. Please comment on any fragrance-related coverage you've seen in other fashion and beauty magazines:

Allure

Cover: Jennifer Garner (NOT looking like herself)

Scent strips: Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto, Coach Love, Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Noir, Calvin Klein Downtown

Editorial coverage: The Beauty Reporter section includes a “Smell This” feature in which three ‘experts’ talk about Calvin Klein Downtown (they all like it, go figure. p. 80) and a short blurb on Katy Perry's Killer Queen (p. 90). This month's Beauty 101 (p. 96) is about fragrance layering (suggested combo: Balenciaga L'Eau Rose + Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Noir). 10 Beautiful Things were selected by designer Giambattista Valli, and include Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet (p. 108).

Details

Cover: Models!

Scent strips: Ralph Lauren Polo Red; Giorgio Armani Code; Guess Night; Hermès Terre d’Hermès

Editorial coverage: p. 156 Making Scents: when it comes to choosing a new fall fragrance, knowing what you like is half the battle. Here, a guide to hitting the right note this season. (as usual, an article for “beginners”)

GQ

Cover: Colin Kaepernick

Scent strips: Ralph Lauren Polo Red; Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme; Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua; Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo

Editorial coverage: nothing

Note: as always, thanks to Kevin — I read Allure, he did the rest.

You’re right, she’s not looking like herself…is it something about the eyes?

You know, Kevin put that comment in…I think Allure covers are almost always weird in some way — either the person doesn’t look like themselves, or they just look noticeably less attractive than usual.

It’s not just her eyes…. her mouth, her eyes, her jawline her nose all look different; it looks like the superimposed her image over a Kardashian.

I haven’t read Allure in a few months but I remember (from when I subscribed) a page dedicated to the details of the cover photo shoot. The stylists have openly talked about always trying to achieve a look that is the opposite of (or at least different from) what we are used to seeing. They go out of their way to tone down more polished celebs and glam up the ones who like a natural look. I don’t see it here though. She looks just like the daily pap photos of her walking with the kids.

That’s true. Not sure it is always flattering.

Colin Kaepernick, sure seems like he’s a bit full of himself, not to judge, just was a lot of showboating last year in the games. I am a big 9er fan..but kinda seems like things went all to his head. Not judging, hopefully, there will be less showboating this year? We get it, you’re a great athlete.*eye roll*. That will be the end of my NFL talk, lol!!
