Up for grabs: Alyssa Harad’s Coming to My Senses

Posted by Robin on 26 June 2013 29 Comments — Comments are closed

alyssa-coverAlyssa Harad

What is it: a paperback copy of Alyssa Harad's book, Coming to My Senses: A Story of Perfume, Pleasure, and an Unlikely Bride. It just went for sale on Amazon this week.

How do I get it: For a chance to win, leave a comment on the website telling me that you live in the US. Then tell me either a) your favorite perfume book or b) what perfume you're wearing today or c) something else you've been dying to post in a comment.

Be sure to use the “Post a comment” box; do not reply to another comment! All replies to comments will be deleted!

The contest will be open until noon or so on Monday, and I'll announce the winner on Wednesday.

Most unfortunately, we are having some difficulties with spam and I've disabled new reader accounts today — existing accounts should work just fine. If you'd like to have a new reader account so that you can enter the contest, just shoot me an email at robin at nstperfume dot com.

The fine print: Don't enter the contest unless I have permission to use the email address in your reader account to contact you. If the email address in your reader account is incorrect, you might want to fix it. If you are the winner and you fail to send me your mailing details within a couple weeks, I’ll give your prize away to someone else.

Checking in from Huntsville, AL this morning. Scent of the day is Lolita Lempicka…though I might need to pick something lighter for my evening dance class!

I live in beautiful (and HOT) Texas, USA, and my scent of the day is Diptyque’s Tam Dao.

Hello Robin! I *still* live in the US. 🙂

No scent today, unless “eau de Primer” counts–I’ve been working on the upstairs of my house. Soon the mauve, purple and lilac will be a thing of distant memories–and a few “before” shots to impress my friends! Have a good day!

I live in the U.S. and my favorite frag book is probably Perfumes: The Guide, because that’s the one that started it all for me. And I don’t know what I’ll be wearing on this damp, muggy Seattle day (maybe Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum?), but I own FBs of both Lolita Lempicka and Tam Dao!

I live in Seattle; today I’m wearing Sonoma Scent Studios’ Wood Violet, and it’s making me smile even as I look out my office window at the grey day out there. I’d love to win a copy of Alyssa’s book! 🙂

    I live in the US.

    1. Perfumes: The Guide
    2. Jitterbug Perfume (well, my memory of it – I liked it too much to risk rereading it)

    2) I’m wearing a little En Passant in my hair, and Preparation Parfumee Andree Putman on my wrists

I live in the US. Today is my third-to-last day at a company I’ve been with for five years (leaving voluntarily for graduate school!) so I felt in the mood for something punchy and generally badass. Bandit is doing the trick.

I live in the US of A, in Wyoming where it’s green as Ireland and 75 degrees. It won’t last. I’m trying out Roja Dove’s Fetish. The jury is still out. Favorite book is my well-worn Perfumes: The Guide. Fabulous on all levels.

SOTD is Diptyque Eau de Lierre. It’s very humid today where I live and I thought this one would work well. Please include me in the draw. I live in the US. Thank you!

    I live in the U.S.

Right now my favorite perfume book is “The Chemistry of Fragrances, 2nd ed.” edited by Charles Sell.

As is my once-a-week habit, I’m wearing Terre d’Hermes (EdP) today, something to get my mind off the knockout Chanel Coco vintage EdT I can’t get enough of (literally, I only have a few mls of it!). I would love someone to point me in the direction of something like Coco that smells this way new: oriental but almost not vanilla at all, just butterscotch, dried fruit and burnt something…what a marvel.

    Thanks for the drawing!

Hi Robin. I love living in the US.
Where can I get Jo Malone’s Honeysuckle and Jasmine that has sadly been discontinued? Ebay is selling it for 200 some odd buck…extortionists.
Does Jo Malone dc scents and bring them back very often? Does anyone have it that will part with it? And lastly, Do you know any uncomplicated florals that could be a dupe for it?
Sigh, I finally decide on it and it looks like I may be too late.

I live in the US, and my favorite perfume book thus far has been The Diary of a Nose, by Jean Claude Ellena. I have gone through many different, short-lived perfumes today including Vanille Galante, 10 Corso Como, and Stella 🙂 Thanks for the draw!

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the paperback! I have so much to carry on the train for work, the hard cover would be a little difficult. Alyssa is someone I would love to know.

I ate up Denyse Beaulieu’s The Perfume Lover. What a fabulous story.

    I live in the U.S.

I read Denise Hamilton’s “Damage Control” after reading about it on the perfume blogs. I really liked it, and began to read more books by this author. I would love to win this book to read during one of these too hot days to walk outside at lunch. I went to lunch at a friend’s house today at lunch. I am wearing Le Labo 39, which my friend’s cat loved so much she tried to hump my neck & hair. I live in the US. Thanks for the draw.

OH OOOOH — Pick me Robin!! I really want to read this book! Yes, I live in the USA and you can email ten times to tell me that I won. I just picked up a copy of “the Perfume Collector” at the library and will report back after I finish reading it. Today was hot and steamy so I wore some Ineke’s Poet’s Jasmine which was surprisingly perfect.

    I live in the U.S.

I’m wearing the scent of a long day in NYC, because the one fragrance I brought with me for a three-week professional seminar (Chanel 1932) goes musty overblown on me in the muggy heat we’ve had lately. I did manage to get to Aedes for the first time ever, but bought nothing, having learned (and relearned) that it takes me at least a week to figure out if a fragrance is FB worthy for me.

My SOTD is Nuit de Tubereuse.
I loved Perfumes The Guide. I heard Luca Turin is going to start reviewing perfume again and I can’t wait.

My SOTD is Hothouse Flower…perfect for today’s hot weather. The fragrance still lingers after eight hours of wear!

I live in the U.S. and my SOTD = Marni. I left the house without any perfume (horrors!) but my destination was Nordstrom and they just got in Marni!
