By Kilian Musk Oud ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 22 May 2013 11 Comments

By Kilian Musk Oud

French niche line By Kilian has launched Musk Oud, the final fragrance in the Arabian Nights collection (see also Pure Oud, Rose Oud, Incense Oud and Amber Oud).

Good artists create works that are pleasant. Great artists create works that are rewarding. For Musk Oud, the fifth and final scent in the ‘Arabian Nights’ collection, Kilian Hennessy joined forces with master perfumer Alberto Morillas, (creator of the much-praised Yves Saint Laurent M7), to devise an oud fragrance worthy of the challenge and complexity of its enigmatic, animalic central ingredient.

Musk Oud features notes of lemon, mandarin, cardamom, coriander, cypress, Bulgarian Rose, geranium, davana, rum extract, frankincense, oud accord, musk and patchouli.

By Kilian Musk Oud can be found now at Luckyscent, in 30 ml travel spray or 50 ml Eau de Parfum, and in refills.

I didn’t fell in love with any of the By Kilian fragrances, no matter if it’s from L’Oeuvre Noire or Arabian Nights or Asian Tales collection.

I’m so fed up with oud (don’t get me wrong but I can only tolerate oud when it’s done in a very light way)

There are a few I like, but none I cannot live without. Just as well — this one is nearly $400.

I was wondering when this would finally be released. The SA at my closest S5A wasn’t sure, but they are very generous with the samples and I will surely score some upon my next visit.
I haven’t been tempted to purchase any of from this series, they are very pricey.
I do have some refills from the regular line: Love, A Taste of Heaven, Straight to Heaven, and Dangerous Liaisons. These are all lovely and I am very glad to have them in my collection.

The only Kilian I want a full bottle of is Amber Oud, I like that one. I am not huge on anything named musk oud though.

Agree about the name, but the notes do sound awfully nice. And of course Alberto Morillas is another inducement to try it.

Ordered my bottle as soon as I got the Luckyscent newsletter – I love every one of the Arabian Nights collection and wanted this one to complete my set. With Morillas as the perfumer, I have confidence it will be good.

Okay, got my bottle and am wearing it now. It is very nicely done, nothing skanky or overbearing about it, it is easy to wear. The oud and musk are clearly front and center, but smooth and well-blended. I am very happy with it, a nice completion to my Arabian Nights collection.
