Marc Jacobs's new Daisy fragrance is meant to be "happy and youthful", and "more accessible than the signature range" and "sophisticated but not too serious". In other words, it's meant to bring younger consumers into the Marc Jacobs fold. I'm way past the target age range (said to be 18-24), but I was taken by that bottle right off the bat. It is way cute. I was worried that it would be way less cute when I saw the plastic daisies in person, but nope, it is maybe even more way cute in real life.
Daisy the fragrance is a pretty good match with Daisy the bottle. It is young and light and fresh, feminine but not sexy, easy to wear, and massively pleasant. It starts with fruit (wild strawberry, red grapefruit), neither heavy nor overly sweet, tempered by a touch of greenery (violet leaves). The floral notes in the heart (gardenia, violet, jasmine) are well-blended and sheer, and while daisies themselves have no scent, Marc Jacobs Daisy does a pretty good job of evoking a sunny, breezy meadow of random flowers. The base (musk, vanilla and white woods) is pale and clean and middling warm, and only lightly vanillic.
As you can probably already guess from the quotes in the first paragraph, Daisy isn't likely to stun anybody with its originality, but it works well for what it is: an entry level scent for a mainstream brand that isn't known for its challenging fragrances anyway. For such a thing, it is darned likeable. Despite the attractions of the bottle, I don't like it well enough to actually buy it, but I'd guess many women will.
If such things appeal to you, you can play around at the daisymarcjacobs site and grow virtual daisies and win prizes and whatnot. There is also a form to request a free sample.
If growing daisies online doesn't appeal, perhaps you'll like this picture of Marc Jacobs in a tutu instead.
Marc Jacobs Daisy was developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas. It is available in 50 and 100 Eau de Toilette and in Velvet Body Butter & Bubbly Shower Gel. (first quote via Women's Wear Daily, second via moodiereport, third via cosmeticsint.co.uk, Marc Jacobs in a tutu image found via Rosie & March of Perfume Posse)
Love the bottle. Love the tutu. Still have to smell the scent itself.
I've smelled it and think you've described it to a T. It's comfortable and there's nothing harsh in the notes at all. I think it will sell well for those reasons too, but among the age range I'm not so sure.
Mass majority of 18-24 typically goes for those fruit punch perfumes. Blah! The bottle is adorable though.
Not sure which I like best, actually, the bottle or the tutu. But will drop over in a faint if you adore Daisy!
Comfortable is a good description. You might be right about the age range, but if I were buying a scent for say, a 13 year old girl who liked designer stuff, this would be what I'd pick.
Marc Jacobs in a tutu is matched only by Marc Jacobs in the tutu with sneakers. The perfect image to describe yet another, sigh, fruity floral.
LOL — true! But this one isn't so terribly fruity (or sweet) — more fresh/crisp. So there's that.
I sniffed, I yawned, I forgot.
Methinks I'm not the target audience of this one 🙂
while daisies themselves have no scent,
Not quite true- Shasta daisies smell very, very bad, so 'Daisy' isn't a name to make me run out and buy!
Somehow I think this will sell like hotcakes…
There is nothing distinctive or memorable about it, it is true. Just very pleasant…
Dark Phoenix, no worries, there certainly isn't any “daisy” note in there.
Absolutely!
How did I miss this review?
You've done nothing to discourage my ridiculous longing for this thing. I'll probably buy it anyway. I bet I'll like it more than Vivara 😛
Hey, I'd take it over Vivara any day. Buy two!
Robin, perhaps I missed it — do you know which retailer(s) will be carrying this?
It was exclusive to Bloomies until recently, but Sephora & Nordstrom both have it now too. Maybe Macy's, can't remember.
But seriously, buy it if you must, but buying it at full MSRP is insane!
Perhaps I missed something, but this smelled exactly like “Light Blue”…
What a coincidence — that was the first thing I thought of when I smelled it. But when I put them both on at home, I decided they were more alike in feel than in smell. You might be right though!
I'm glad you also noticed similarities…especially since the “Light Blue” bottle was placed suspiciously close to “Daisy” and I later wondered if I caught a whiff of the wrong stuff. I tried it again, though and thought the same thing.
Well, if it smells like Light Blue, it will definitely sell! Especially since it's in a nicer bottle.
When I tired this perfume on, my immediate reaction was that, “Even my grandma is going to like scent 'cause it is not offensive at all!” And yes, this is an extremely comfortable scent. Too comfortable to a point that I feel like I am not innocent enough for it! I can't say this is a scent that I would wear everyday, but I can imagine myself wanting to have something like this in my fragence wardrobe for times when I want to smell “tamed” and just girlie girl!
“Tamed” is a good description, and you're right, it isn't going to offend anyone unless you absolutely drench yourself in it.
We received our sample today and this stuff smells fantastic! I put some on my wife's neck and I just can't get enough of it… Twenty years ago, I smelled a similar scent, and when I asked what the name of the perfume was I was told it was called Taj Mahal. I looked all over and couldn't find a store that carried it. Daisy reminds me of that scent. It has been over 20 years but when I smelled the sample, the memory of my old quest was the first thing that came to mind.
Glad you found something to remind you of a long lost favorite!
You will love it. The bottle is a cool desighn and the scent is elegant and simple.
Seriously, it isn't her style 🙂
I just bought this and just sniffed it today! I think the fragrance is very different. I love the box. However, the bottle could be better if it was more like the box…black with the flowers on it. The SA told me it was not a fall scent and tried to get me to purchase something else. Since when can I not wear what I want when I want? The plastic flowers on the bottle are okay but they remind me of something I wore in my hair when I was seven.
How weird that they tried to dissuade you from a relatively new release! Will have to go look for a picture of the box, haven't even seen it yet.
I agree Virginia it is not a fall scent! However, I did fall for it, just as I did Vera Wang Princess and Juicy, I guess being 26 I still have a little bit of the fragrance teenager in me and have to make room in the collection next to Chanel and Evening in Paris. On a side note, my husband nearly chewed my arm off over smelling. Guess that's a vote in the yes department.
Was sprinting through Belk's on my lunch break and got to try Daisy today. Didn't get any strawberry out of it, must have died down before I left the store. It really, really smells familiar to me (I want to say lancome, but lighter?) – I just can't put my finger on it. Pretty and soft, good for days you have to make sure not to bother anyone with your perfume (office meetings and such). Might get a mini for those days.
I agree that this scent is very pleasant and comfortable. I think that is what I like about it. I work in a very conservative office and this is one of the few perfumes I feel completely comfortable wearing to work. It is just kind of clean and bright. Very non offensive. Not for special occasions and will never be my everyday scent but I like having something else to wear to work.
Yes, it's perfect for a conservative office, I should think.
“The SA told me it was not a fall scent and tried to get me to purchase something else. Since when can I not wear what I want when I want? ”
Thats crazy! I don't ever pay attention to those “Fall Scents, Winter Scents, SEX scents” crap! I wear what I want when I want. Just depends on what mood you're in
This scent is completely out of my “perfume character.” I've always worn warm and oriental fragrances, so it's odd that I was so taken with Daisy. It's extremely light and refresh, but it's a floral. Florals have the tendency to be a little too sweet and overpowering, but Daisy remains incredibly subtle. I don't think your fragrance should enter the room before you, so this scent is perfect. Its subtlety makes it extremely intimate, actually, because you want someone to be close to you in order to smell it. In addition, it seems to be a complicated scent; you can't quite pinpoint the major notes. This gives it a hint of mystery, which certainly amps up the sexiness factor. Great scent, I'd recommend that you try it!!!
Good to own a few things that are outside of your “perfume character”, I should think 🙂
Robin, Marc Daisy has another one of those Limited Edition bottles called “Amber”.Have you smelled it yet?
Yes, that's from last winter I think. So far, I've not been impressed with any of the Marc Jacobs Splash scents, but I know lots of people like them.
I spritzed some Daisy on at Ulta and wore it home. It had a pleasant, “innocent” and light scent at first, but after about 20 minutes turned quite sharp on my skin. A few minutes later it was sharper still…ten minutes later sharper yet…I finally had to wash it off. Amazing what a difference skin chemistry makes.
So sorry it was a scrubber for you! Ah well, plenty of other fish in the sea.
I'm older than the target audience but I loved this fragrance the moment I first sniffed it. The light floral is not so sweetly cloying like as many florals are.
The scent reminds me of when I was a kid, walking through fallow fields full of wild flowers on a warm summer day.
I sell this fragrance to “older” women as well as younger women, I have so much success that it is hard to keep up with demand.
When someone is looking for a fresh floral that isn't to sweet, something carefree and happy, light and breezy I suggest Daisy. More often then not I make the sale.
I understand it's selling very well 🙂
Owning and regularly using the other two main fragrances by Marc Jacobs (his first signature scent + Blush) I found “Daisy” way too soft, for me personally it somewhat lacks “soul”. Might be perfect for ladies who prefer ultra-mild scents but I rather like it a little more “noticeable”. Question of taste, of course. I like the bottle, though. Nice design.
I like either MJ or Blush better too 🙂
I think there must be something up with my nose it doesn't smell (to me) of any of those notes, nor inoffensive and officey. It smells of wine. Specifically a rather cheap and nasty merlot that a pub I once worked in sold.
Bottle is cute though, but I'm glad I got my mini gratis.
Merlot! How interesting, I don't get anything like that at all. It might be an improvement!
hmm to me this doesn't smell like Light Blue at all – no lemony zing or sharpness. MJ Daisy smells like creamy banana flowers —does anyone else get this too?
No banana for me, luckily! But agree it is more alike in “feel” than “smell” to LB.
Yes!! Finally someone who has a nose like me!
I loved this perfume as it smelt like fruity fizzy juicy perfume with very prominant first notes of sweet n sour yet juicy banana flowers!
This review captured the Marc Jacobs' Daisy fragrance perfectly – it's a very soft, clean, and pretty scent. I love the way it smells, but I'm not going to buy it because I don't feel it represents me. I'm more into sweet and fruity scents then flowery ones.
There's plenty of sweet & fruity things on the market, you're in luck 😉
This scent sums up SUMMER to perfection. Its my signature scent in summer and if i'm getting a bit of the winter blues then DAISY is the perfect reminder of whats ahead!! i love this sooooo much and i love how it just floats around and lasts forever!! my fav.
can u recommend sumthing similar to this but a bit less mainstream??
You know, that's really hard — it's a pretty mainstream scent, and can't think of a natural “step up”. Can you tell me any other things you like?
Funny I don't think it smells at all like DG light blue.
light blue has a tart lemony top note and a, in my opinion, sexy woody/musky base. On the other hand Marc Jacobs Daisy is, to my nose; sweet, green floral, vanilla. No tartness to my nose.
Hmmm…pictures in my head: When I smell DG light blue I picture a woman who gives as good as she gets, who is quick with a raised eyebrow and an intentionally subtlety seductive response.
Daisy on the other hand…I picture a bashful blushing woman who is just as seductive but less aware of her seductiveness. Shyly sweet.
(If that makes sense)
For the record, neither light blue or Daisy holds up well on my skin, though I love them on others.
The one time I wore light blue I felt I needed to take a shower to get the stink off.
While I love Daisy on others it turns sour on me after half an hour.
*sigh* I adore both but neither works for me.
For some strange reason, I really like this perfume. I don't usually like florals, and I get bored of them pretty quickly. I prefer Orientals like Hypnotic Poison, Armani Code and Intuition. Which is weird for a 19 year old girl. But anyway, I really like this one. Maybe it's the base notes.
hi yeh i'm not into the really spicy smelling perfumes with flavours like cloves etc…it just seems like everyone smells like COVET or the Britney spears range of perfumes and i was looking for sumthing a bit different…with a fresh maybe even tropical smell…
i asked a lady a the department store and she got really confused and did not help me one bit…lol…hope u can…
Fresh tropical: have you tried any of the Michael Kors Island scents? Also wondering if you'd like J Lo Deseo or Sean John Unforgivable, both of which also qualify as “fresh tropical”. Also check out the Bond no. 9 line — they have quite a few under that category (and Kevin has reviewed them): Coney Island, Hamptons, etc.
thank you sooo much my perfume world has been expanded….
If none of those work for you, check back in!
This scent is actually very memorable to me, but I am naive when it comes to perfume. Either my nose has changed, or my perspective has, or else I just had very limited experience when it came to perfume in the past (I'm thinking it's that) because this smells like nothing that I've ever sniffed before.
I am new to perfume, or at least new to liking it. I grew up thinking I didn't like it at all and that it was all bad because the only perfume I'd smelled was stale stuff on old ladies or else heavy stuff practically sprayed in my face (by old ladies) at department stores. Now that I'm paying attention, I really want to know more, and this blog seems like a really helpful place for that.
I can't tell what's good and what's not though. I know it's subjective, but I honestly just don't know where to start. I can't even tell whether a scent is fruity or floral or vanilla-laden or what. All I know is whether or not it makes me feel sick.
Hmm.
Anyway, when I smelled Daisy today, it smelled like a nice polo shirt in perfume form to me.
First of all, I'd say if you find something you like, wear it in happiness and who cares if it's “good” — probably much of what I consider “good” would strike you as “old lady” or “heavy stuff”. Perfume is a luxury and ought to make you happy, first and foremost.
Well, I just left Sephora with a sample of Daisy! I spent literally an hour sniffing perfumes and colognes sprayed onto those little paper wands. I am so excited that I smelled daisy, which led me to this site. I didn't realize how complicated perfume could be. I am determined to learn more about it… and I'm happy also because I successfully managed to identify two woody orientals and one dry wood!
Hey, see, you're almost a perfumista already 🙂
Yes, banana was one of the first things I smelled about this. Glad I'm not crazy.
Unfortunately, now that I have tried it, it smells sour on me after a few minutes.
now to track down these perfumes in Perth!! its going to be a great mission!!!
Love this scent! Fresh and clean, definately! I wouldnt put an “age limit” on this, ladies. I'm almost 44, and had not read the preview on this one. I didnt see where age matters with this scent. One thing I didnt like was it faded in 2 hours. Anyone else notice this?
I get more than 2 hours, but it isn't a powerhouse. Have you tried the new EdP, in the black bottle? It might last longer, but I haven't tried it yet.
I end up trading(is it called swaping?) delcies de Cartier with Daisy!
At first I wasn't very excited but it couldn't be worst than delices…..
However after wearing daisy I fell in love with it! It smells wonderful on my skin and it lasts forever!
I couldn't be happier! 🙂
Cool — so glad your swap worked out!
In the black bottle? I just read in W that Marc Jacobs has come up with new Daisy Noir and it is black with gold flowers. Is that what you are referring to or do they really have Daisy in a EDP in a black bottle with the same white and gold flowers?
I've been searching for deals at T.J. Max and way back in the back corner, almost completely hidden was a $40 large black carton of Daisy the EDT! I had smelled it once and loved it, but, because I was trying to become more sophisticated in my taste, I dismissed it. I wasted time. It isn't wildly creative, but it is well done. The green is fresh picked and joyful in it's opening and mostly throughout. It's femininity is presented in a tender unassuming caress, and it's sexuality is coyness in a whisper.
I can see why it is in the top three best selling best sellers.
My aspirations of being a perfumista, got in the way of my heart.
Daisy is pretty and happy. It's name is genius because it's the perfect name for this fragrance. I think Marc Jacobs is a genius, he has designed a mass market appeal scent that is not just another pretty flower, but a well done one that is unique. The new Noir Daisy sounds more dubious.

Pretty sure we're talking about the same thing:

I feel almost left out. I put it on a hour ago and barely smelled anything. Now, nothing. I've been trying the Sephora Sent Sampler Bestsellers for Her set. At least a few others of the ones I've tried already were well received by my husband, and I liked them as well. The bottle for Daisy is so cute, but not cute enough for me to buy later if I can't detect a thing. (Usually I have *no* problem with scents, and find most overwhelming.)
I'm guessing there's a musk in there that you can't smell — it's light, but not that light.
Okay… I admit it… I bought a mini. Adorable little plastic daisy on top, fun to play with! And why?
My husband likes it. He says it's sexy. Yuh-huh, sexy. I guess he's missing my old bottle of Victoria's Secret Pink.
Fracas made his eyes bug out. Songes made him ask where that “vanilla syrup” smell was coming from. Chanel Eau Premiere made him wonder if I'd borrowed my mother's perfume. Joy made him wonder whether I'd been borrowing HIS mother's perfume. Organza Indecence caused him to ask if he could have a bowl of that rice pudding. Bois des Iles made him ask, rather testily, why he kept smelling rice pudding when there was clearly no rice pudding available, and when the *^## was I going to make some. Bulgari Black induced him to wonder what in the world the guys had been working on at the auto parts store (where I work, keeping books). Chanel No. 19 caused him to request that I take my ankle boots off, please, and stop stomping around the house in them as if I were an Amazon.
But that sample of Daisy? That got me neck nuzzles. Not to mention ear nibbles, and the kids sent to bed early. Go figure.
I actually kind of like Daisy myself. It's really nice for a rushed morning, or a day when I don't want to have to think about what scent I'm wearing. And I can't wear much interesting stuff to work, obviously, without the guys thinking thoughts about me that I'd rather not have them think. Luckily, I get absolutely no berry from it at all, just grapefruit and greens and fresh florals, with a lightly woody musk.
And a girl's gotta keep the husband happy… especially since he contributed rather generously to the growing sample collection…
Hey, it's a darned pleasant fragrance — wouldn't kill me to wear it either. And maybe one of the others will eventually grow on him!
One of them had better grow on him. I like Daisy, but I'm not gonna live in it!
Just got to get his nose educated. (You don't want to know what he said about Mitsouko…)
LOL — I can imagine 🙂
i cannot wait for Lola to come out! the bottle is really pretty and cool! pear, grapefruit, rose, and vanilla sounds a.ok in my book! i cant wait! im so excited!
So sorry I missed your comment! Lola is long out by now, sorry.
Daisy is absolutely wonderful; the dry down is soft but somehow it lasts on me all day……..got a great deal for layering at Marshall’s! The whole set with two minis, the 3.4oz bottle and the lotion for $59 bucks. Definitely a smelling great investment. Love it.
Good deal, congrats!
Whats this “Daisy In The Air” on the new releases? Is it gonna be a new scent or just a different bottle?
Not sure…all I know is blue bottle.
I don’t know why, I’m way beyond the target age for these fragrances, but I really get the Vinyls collection and they seem to like me back. A month ago I’d never even heard of marc Jacobs, how shocking is that? Then someone told me about Honey on Twitter and I looked up the review here. It grabbed my imagination and I got a test sniff. I liked it but dot lured me with her siren sweet juiciness so she had to be bought first. Then Honey, now I just got home and found shy, sweet Daisy waiting for me, a present from my other half. I find this fragrance really nostalgic, it smells soft, pale pink, elegant and delicate, reminds me a little of the silky powder my Grandma would apply with a swan’s down puff. That’s not to say it smells old ladyish. I have so much perfume, but these days when I open the drawer where I keep them all away from the light it’s the Marc Jacobs bottles my hand finds first, and since the advent of Daisy I’m going to be more spoilt for choice than ever!
I think lots of people beyond the target age own Daisy. Congrats on your MJ collection!
Help…
I have been wearing Daisy for a loooong time.
I want to wear other perfumes but I keep coming back to Daisy because it is fresh and not too overpowering or too sweet.
Any suggestion?
Thank you 🙂
