Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 9 December 2011 24 Comments

Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y

Designer Stella McCartney will launch L.I.L.Y, her second pillar fragrance, in 2012. The name comes from her father Paul McCartney's nickname for his first wife, Linda McCartney (Linda I Love You). It also references the new scent's lily of the valley note; according to Stella McCartney, L.I.L.Y explores that note's "darker, more masculine side".

L.I.L.Y was developed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier, who also created the designer's popular Stella fragrance. In addition to lily of the valley, the fragrance notes include truffle and oak moss.

Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y will debut at Selfridges in January; it is not expected to reach the United States until September 2012, when it will be available at Sephora. It will be sold in 10 ml roll-on ($25), or in 30, 50 or 75 ml Eau de Parfum ($60 - $100). Matching body products will also be available.

Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y. sounds very promising, I will definitely check it out when it is released. I am a fan of the original Stella, it is simple lovely and not trendy. Hoping L.I.L.Y. will be the same.

I think it is beautiful that she named the perfume after her mother. What a wonderful way to pay tribute to someone special.

The original Stella is well done, hope this one will be too — it does sound promising.

2 scents with oak moss now? is this a small resurgence?

There are actually lots of scents with oak moss as a note, so I don’t think so. There just aren’t that many “old fashioned” chypres. I doubt this will be one of those!

I read an article recently – can’t remember where, I think maybe it was that Wired article about perfume technology – that said a lot of the big fragrance & flavor houses were trying to come up with new oakmoss molecules that could get around the allergy restrictions. I bet we’ll see lots of launches with these new ingredients in the next few years.

There are already some out there being used. I’m sure they’ll come up with more, but again, not sure classic chypres are going to make a real comeback despite that — many of them were no longer selling well even before this. We’ll see though!

Oh good, she is finally doing something other than another version of Stella! The inspiration is so bittersweet and the notes and concept sound promising.

Excited for this one! Also sweet that it’s a tribute to the love between Linda and Paul. Sort of sad to see what his love life has degenerated into now. :P

I thought he was happily married again?

He remarried again in October. But there was some really nasty stuff in his separation and divorce with Heather Mills, that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Wikipedia has a whole article about it (!!):

What a sweet nickname. Paul and Linda truly were a modern day love story, weren’t they?

They were. I have to admit that I misted up a little when I read the name and what it means. What a beautiful thing for her to do in honor of the love her mother and father shared. It was real love, like John and Yoko, though nobody seemed to want it to be true. Fans were as harsh to Linda as they were to Yoko. Yesterday was the anniversary of the day we lost John Lennon so the kids came over and we listened to the Beatles during dinner and lit a candle in his memory. I’m named after his mother, or more specifically the song he wrote for his mother that appeared on the the White Album.

    Sounds interesting.

The model in that ad looks dirty and wasted and doesn’t seem a very nice homage to the inspiration.

Oh, I like, ” darker, more masculine side” of the flower. That sounds intriguing and I want to sniff this! Love the bottle from what I see too. Yes, ditto on it not being another version of Stella! This does sound promising:D.

Lily of the Valley has a dark side? Who knew!

Sounds intriguing, and I do love Stella Rose Absolute.

I still can’t decide how I feel about the Stella (some days I love it, some days I don’t), but this looks a little more “me” – I want to sniff it so badly it hurts. The bottle looks interesting too, from what I can see of the ad. If it’s slated for a Sept 2012 release in the States, I’d imagine we’re not getting it in Australia until 2013… sigh! :) Oh well, such is life.

“darker, more masculine side”! I’m EXCITED! While never really adoring her 1st and In Two fragrances, I liked them. It’s too bad we’ll have to wait till September! Ouch! Haha. I’m digging the bottle too. I’m assuming I love truffle because I love Black Orchid. Haha! : )

I’m very intrigued by this! And impatient as I’m in the US and will have to wait a long time. I think Stella is a modern classic and can’t wait to see what the very talented Stella McC. does in interpreting the darker more masculine side of LOTV, which I can’t even imagine. I love smelling the flower but haven’t been able to wear any LOTV fragrances as they seem too high pitched and linear and just not me. High hopes for this one!
