Armani Prive Cuir Noir ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 28 November 2011 11 Comments

Armani Prive Cuir Noir

Giorgio Armani will launch Cuir Noir in December. The new unisex woody oriental fragrance joins the Armani Privé La Collection des Mille et une Nuits series, which already includes Ambre Orient, Rose d'Arabie and Oud Royal. Cuir Noir is meant to be a journey into the heart of an Oriental night, and was inspired by the tales of the One Thousand and One Nights and by the tanneries of the East.

Cuir Noir is reportedly smoky, spicy and creamy; notes include sandalwood, rose, coriander, nutmeg, guaiac wood, oud, leather, vanilla and benzoin.

Armani Privé Mille et une Nuits Cuir Noir is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, 205€.

My ears always prick up at mention of the smoky descriptor so I look forward to sniffing this.

Yes, and creamy + smoky is even better. But admit I’m not really salivating over this.

Does sound very nice, although not wildly original.. unless the smoky note is particularly evident. And it is also less expensive than the recent ” femme bleue”… but: when is a moratorium for “noir” names starting?

Soon, I hope. I was completely surprised when I received a sample of Trish McEvoy’s Black Rose Oud. I guess the surprise was that somebody is putting out another rose oud this late in the game and that she charges $185 for it.
Getting off my grumpy chair, I have liked a few of the GA Prive scents like Ambre Soie which was composed by Christine Nagel and you can smell the Theorema in its family tree. I also like Rose Alexandrie which reminds me of Lipstick Rose but without the huge slug of aldehydes. Hmm, I’m not sure that’s high praise when I like things because they smell like something else (only more expensive).
I love woody orientals and I like many compositions with coriander but the whole collection is just so expensive that it’s hard to justify another one that reads so much like so many things I already have. Maybe I’m still on my grumpy chair – or maybe I’m truly a stage 5 perfumista now because my rampant cynicism is out of control.

Stage 5? Stage FIVE?!! Ohmygosh. Who knew there were FIVE stages?!!! I have so much to learn. (I doubt if it’s the grumpy chair–more like the post-Thanksgiving-nothing-fits; it-all-smells-weird chair. At least for me, it is. Surely next week will be better!)

So far, that would be my take on the whole Armani Prive line: nice, not all that original. But haven’t even tried any of this latest series of 4 so should keep my mouth shut.

Your take, I think, is my take as well: I haven’t smelled any of the very newest, and the ones I have tried are nice enough but not particularly heart-pounding and certainly not worth what’s being asked for them.

i once got a boxed bottle of the jasmin eclat for about $50 us ! It is nice to have in a collection…mainly for the bottle….i would not have paid any more than that tho! the juice is pretty
None of them are “that” special to warrant the price! That beng said, I would give this a sniff, because of the interesting notes!

Nice deal! At $50, I’d be tempted by the incense & the vetiver.
