Jo Loves Pomelo, Green Orange & Coriander, Orange Tulle & Gardenia ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 7 November 2011 21 Comments

Jo Loves Pomelo

Jo Loves is the new brand for Jo Malone, who sold her eponymous line to Estee Lauder some years ago. Jo Loves debuts with four fragrances: Pomelo, Green Orange & Coriander, Orange Tulle and Gardenia:

Each fragrance is defined by the unique personality of its wearer; 'Pomelo' is clean and crisp, 'Green Orange & Coriander' is soulful and sassy, 'Orange Tulle' is fun and flirty and 'Gardenia' is rich and regal. Which scent are you?

Pomelo (shown) ~ "Pomelo is clean and crisp; it's my best friend made up of memories and moments. It's that feeling of fresh linen sheets or a glass of bubbling fizzy water with a slice of lime and lots of crushed ice. Like me, Pomelo has a masculine side to it, it's confident and sharp."

Green Orange & Coriander ~ "Green Orange & Coriander is soulful and sassy. It has a wonderfully clean smell to it and the marriage between green citrus and herb sits beautifully together and becomes very sexy. It's incredibly comforting yet at the same time it evokes a real sense of passion and warmth."

Orange Tulle ~ "Orange Tulle is fun and flirty. It's a fragrance which captures movement and breathes life as its soft floral notes dance up and down drawing you in and teasing. It's a very feminine scent with a wonderfully fragile element to it, almost like a bride on her wedding day."

Gardenia ~ "Gardenia is rich and regal. This fragrance walks into a room and stands out in the crowd. You can instantly feel the creaminess of the petal and the distinctive floral note which evokes memories of beautiful Hawaiian summer days as well as hints of a winter evening."

Jo Loves Pomelo, Green Orange & Coriander, Orange Tulle and Gardenia will debut this week at a pop-up store at Selfridges in London, one each day (Pomelo is out on Monday), in 100 ml Eau de Toilette for £95 each. You can find more information at the Jo Loves website.

They all seem very “clean.” I was excited about Green Orange & Corriander, but then I read the description..”a wonderfully clean smell..” Oh well..

They sound a lot like Jo Malone, which is what you’d expect. Wonder how this will do though — there’s an awful lot more competition in this sector since she started out, and that’s a large size & expensive price.

I got an e-mail notice about this debut last week and IMMEDIATELY sent back a note requesting smaller sizes. :-)

I wonder if anyone has ever come up with a homeopathic fragrance line, with vanishingly small doses of actual fragrance.

I’m still trying to catch up with sampling the cologne intense and tea collections from JM. :) While I’d like to smell the Pomelo and Green Orange & Coriander, these are quite huge and pricy. Yet another instance where a coffret of 15ml bottles would be perfect since they sound nice enough.

We’ll see what they do. Cannot figure out if they’re planning to distribute these outside the UK — probably they’re going to wait & see how they do.

The first two sound very nice for summer — but nothing I’m really craving right now. They are expensive!

In a way, she needs to hope these are very different from her original line, because Pomelo esp. sounds like it could be had cheaper from the JM brand.

The scents do sound nice – very Jo Malone, which I like – but big expensive bottles have a limited market audience right now. And that market audience does not, alas, include me at all.

JoM said these would be coming to the United States early next year. Not sure what stores, though :(.

These sound great–I’ve always been a Jo Malone fan. The only drawback is that they are fleeting. These news ones will probably be the same??!! Hope not.

She’s convincing isn’t she? No wonder the fragrances are being marketed around her and her personal style – stylish, elegant, but also unfussy and friendly.

I suppose the target market is relatively mature women who have quite a bit of money to burn, but who don’t want to take too many social risks, are not quite confident enough to strike out on their own among the niche brands. The marketing idea must be that these women will appreciate someone making fragrance choice easy for them. (Given the amount of stuff on the market, I don’t blame them!)

There is a cross-over too with the Penhaligon’s market, surely, except that Jo Loves (and indeed Jo Malone) probably appeal to women who find all that Victoriana stuff a bit tiresome.

I wonder who is bankrolling Jo’s new enterprise.

Perhaps herself using the money she got with the sale of her first company? Nah, she is too smart for that! :-)
