Oscar de la Renta Live in Love ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 19 August 2011 20 Comments

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love

Oscar de la Renta will launch Live in Love, a new fragrance for women, in October. The name is taken from a tattoo on his atelier director's arm.

This is about how you embrace life — you live in love. It’s not a person, it’s loving life, it’s loving the life you live, what you give, what you have received.

Live in Love is a green floral developed by perfumers Jean Marc Chaillan and Carlos Benaïm. Notes include bergamot, ginger orchid, hyacinth, muguet, galbanum, jasmine Sambac, orange blossom, rose, white woods, musk, amber, sandalwood and cedar.

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum ($58-98).

I love that bottle. I wish they hadn’t mentioned this came from a friend/co-worker’s tattoo. Nothing against tattoos, I have a few. But it just makes it kind of trite to me.

I think they were trying to present it as:

      a. it’s really hard to come up with a good name that isn’t already taken,

      and

      b. sometimes inspiration comes from surprising places.

But can’t give you a longer quote because can’t get back into WWD at the moment for some reason (think their site is maybe having a little hiccup)

Both very good and understandable points. However, sometimes not saying anything at all is better PR. :P

What’s next, a perfume name taken from restroom graffiti? ;)

I think the notes sound pretty, and I like the name because I’m sentimental like that. I look forward to sniffing…hopefully it’s good! Not that I need to spend more money on perfume. Actually, I kind of hope it’s terrible.

I’ve read that Oscar is trying to come out with better scents, starting with the Esprit d’Oscar. I’ll def try this one and I’m so glad they keep the prices affordable.

This sounds great! I wore original Oscar for many years (this was in the late 90s/early 00s as a high school/college student, so I was a bit odd). And I have been lemming a bottle of Esprit d’Oscar. It really does sound like they are trying to release reasonably priced, good-quality but more modern stuff. I love green florals… trying not to get too excited.

Oh, another new OdL already?! They’re on a roll. And both new ones sound quite nice.

LOVE THAT BOTTLE! And yes, Chillrens… Esprit is FABULUSH! By All means… GET IT! I Know I AM! This Sounds Brilliant! I think the inspiration for the name is actually quite Modern thinking for someone like ODLR… Don’t you? The notes sound HEAVEN SCENT (Do NOT Pardon The Pun! ;-D ) and have had to add this to my MUST SNIFF List… but Btw…. isn’t Ginger a Lily…. not an Orchid?

Wow, I just caught up to Esprit (like very much!) and now another one. I’ll give it a go for sure, and I have no objection to the name origin at all. Could have just as easily seen it on a self-help book cover or something as on someone’s arm.

The notes and description of a green floral are encouraging. Looking forward to this one! So many intriguing scents coming out this fall. :)

I just read this quote by Oscar in the September issue of Vogue: “‘You change your dress every day. I hope you don’t change your perfume every day – I hope it’s a more intimate relationship, something that is yours,” he says wistfully. ‘I want to walk into a room and there is a lingering smell – and that smell is you.'”

I had a little chuckle over that quote. Fashion people just do not understand the point of perfume, do they? I guess the concept of a wardrobe of fragrance is lost even on legendary fashion greats such as Oscar de la Renta.

Links in to the permanence of a tattoo, I guess.
