Country music star Keith Urban will launch his debut fragrance, Phoenix for men, in September:
I’ve always loved symbolism and mythology, the symbolism of the phoenix being something that succumbs to the challenges and burns in the fire, but then is resurrected from the ashes and rises up from the ashes even stronger than before. The ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ story of the phoenix is something else that I think fits really well with a man’s cologne.
Phoenix is a leathery gourmand, and was developed by perfumer Loc Dong. The notes include blackberries, cognac, plum suede accord, dates, dark chocolate, fir balsam, musk, cashmere woods, tonka and "amber gourmand, which imparts a hint of leather".
Keith Urban Phoenix will be available in mass market stores, in 30, 50 and 100 ml Cologne Spray ($24-48).

I WANT this!!! Like NOW!!! A leathery gourmand!!! It’s mass too so the price is right! I’m PSYCHED! I was just gonna pass this by but after seeing the notes, it has to be mine! Haha! : )
I think it’s going to go on sale for a preview at his website — I looked this morning & couldn’t find it, but maybe check again next week?
Awesome! Thanks! : )
I like this!!! Rocky commercial and rocky notes, although country music (no thanks!): cognac, leather, woods, blackberries. I’d like to hear about a Jimi Hendrix fragrance: it could be psychodelic and icensy… 🙂
Oh, I’d be all over Jimi ‘fume! I’ve heard he would wear his GFs perfumes now and then.
GFs???? What’s that???
Guessing girlfriends.
Yes, girlfriends, sorry about that!
And this is in no way substantiated….just something I heard from someone who claims to know someone who knew someone who knew him, you know? But I can totally see it being true!
I thoght about Gibbson and Fender guitars, no sense at all, hahahah!!! It may be true, he was so vain and stilysh.
I’m with you. He was a completely free spirit and I don’t think he would have batted an eye about wearing a “womens” fragrance if it had appealed to him.
Sounds like it may be a very sexy fragrance, much like him. 🙂
I don’t know him. He seems reasonably down to earth in the WWD interview, at least, more so than many.
Hmmm. Well, definitely sounds worth trying. A leather gourmand at a mass-market price almost sounds too good to be true (in my cynical mind anyway).
He apparently wears Tom Ford Private Blend & the like, so at least we can assume he has high end tastes.
Were I in charge of a fragrance’s ad campaign, I’m not sure that I would want to emphasize the “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” angle.
🙂 true
LOL!! It was not part of the “official” ad copy, mind you.
I thought it was such a bizarre (and tenuous) link too – is perfume meant to kill you?
A Masstige Fragrance with a Great Nose Behind it and Great Notes and from what i can tell… he’s a really great guy too (Keith that is) This Sounds Like A Winer all around!
After Taylor Swift I had a feeling Keith Urban may be next. The notes sound promising so I hope it’s good.
I am oddly tempted by the notes. We’ll have to see how the execution comes out, given the price point, but I think I might hunt a tester down at the Walgreen’s when it gets there…
Oddly tempted as well, and can’t quite figure out why, as none are really my “thing”!
Maybe it’s Keith manliness?
Obviously this is going to be one hundred per cent synthetic and cheap as hell to manufacture, but it sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Dates, dark chocolate, blackberries, cognac? (Don’t know what the “fir balsam” is doing in there, though: it has nothing in common with the other notes.) I am sure going to try this, and expect to be disappointed but hope to be surprised.
The nice thing about this fragrance is that the flankers can all be named after suburbs of Phoenix…first up, Scottsdale (upscale, slightly snooty), Paradise (after Paradise Valley), Glendale (well, maybe not), Mesa (a desert themed fragrance – sage and pinon, eucalyptus), etc. There are many possibilities! You could eventually branch out to more distant places – Sedona, Flagstaff, etc.
LOL! Not just geography but also people: How about early morning golfer… desert hippie…. unemployed artist….
Sounds very interesting and unique for a celeb scent. I’m looking forward to giving this a sniff.
It must be just a matter of time till his wife comes out with one. With some of these celebuscents, I think the Apocalypse is imminent but the notes, nose and Keith are definitely okay.
Found the 100 ml for 18 bucks at Ross! Score! Robin, did you try it? Did you care for it? Oh and HAPPY THANKSGIVING! : )
I didn’t…Kevin thought it was good, so I’ll certainly try it if I see it. Did you buy it unsniffed or did you already like it too?
