Posted by Robin on 21 June 2011 17 Comments

Karlie Kloss for Dior Addict to Life perfume

Christian Dior has launched Addict to Life, a new fresh floral fragrance for women. Addict to Life is a flanker to 2002's Addict, and is fronted by model Karlie Kloss.

Addict to Life was developed by perfumer François Demachy; the notes include raspberry, pomegranate, peach, rose, jasmine, muguet, cedar and white musk.

Christian Dior Addict to Life is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

    What a dumb name.

It is. I get that they’re trying to keep the Addict theme going, but talk about not exactly rolling off the tongue. Reminds me of when I read about Mariah Carey naming her child Moroccan. I mean really? But I’m sure they did their market research and the name was good enough…

The actual juice sounds okay and it would be nice to find an Addict that doesn’t fail spectacularly on my skin.

What’s so great about being an addict again?

When was Addict first launched, anyway? Was that the year every photoshoot was full of models that looked like they were coming off of a twenty-day bender and had just crawled out from under a truck to sponge off the vomit?

I think it’s worth noting that the scent wasn’t called Addict, but Dior Addict, which is presumably a market that the house would like to cultivate. The model may have looked like she was in the throes of some drug-induced madness, but she was really just supposed to be overwhelmed by the sheer Dior-ness of it all.

Addict for Life I would like (although I guess it’s not PC) but Addict to Life sounds awkward.

Robin, It is the awkwardness of the words. Addict to Life feels wrong when you read it or say it. I keep wanting to add the letters ED to the word addict and then we would have Addicted to Life. And, like you, I also thought of Addict FOR Life.

Would the (pink juiced candied fruity-floral) flanker to that be Addicted to Love, I wonder?

it’s a very… ‘bright’ floral. i didn’t detect any fruits on me, then again some fragrances have a tendency to skip stages on my skin.

With all the whole Galliano controversy of late, I think Dior thought it would be best to have a non-controversial name. The original Addict was launched at the end of the “heroin-chic” era and I think they wanted a name as outrageous as Poison or YSL’s Opium. The original didn’t do that well, though the bright Addict 2 does an excellent job in Asia and with teens. Addict to Life seams to be in the same market. Dior also restyled the bottle somewhat so that now it resembles the new lipstick more.

It’s interesting…I wonder if the Dior cosmetics & fragrance market even associates the brand with Galliano? I am not at all sure. I do not think of him when I think of Dior perfumes, not even slightly, although I do when I think of Dior fashion.

I don’t either, but I think some people do.
I saw comments that said “but Miss Dior Cherie is my favorite perfume!!!” when the controversy was new.
Also Natalie Portman was expected to make a statement about it.

No, like Givenchy and Kenzo fragrances, Dior fragrances have nothing to do with the couture division within the LVMH group. Anyway they sure don’t want to have anything to do with Galliano now. When Miss Dior Chérie was originally launched Galliano was featured in videos for the mini-website. For Midnight Poison they explained how he designed the blue dress for the tv commercial… again in past J’adore campaigns. But this spring when Dior relaunched Miss Dior Chérie they left him out of the promo, just saying that Nathalie Portman’s dress was designed within the Dior Ateliers.

there has been actually quite a growing input by Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci in the beauty department. Dahlia Noir has his fingerprint all over it. as do the new makeup collections.

Dior Beauty has been quite good at following cues from the fashion department, altho nowhere near as close as Chanel.

Could not stop laughing at the ad image – is she supposed to be leaning against a mirror like the original ad? If so, they obviously used two different images because her shoulders are at different heights, the hair is wrong, eye focus – everything!!!!
The name is totally awful too – sounds like a bad motivational bumper sticker.
