Posted by Robin on 31 May 2011 39 Comments

Serge Lutens will launch Vitriol d’Oeillet, a new woody floral perfume in the export range, in July.

The new 'angry carnation" will feature spice notes, including cayenne, black pepper, pink pepper, nutmeg and clove, and is described as slightly powdery.

Serge Lutens Vitriol d'Oeillet will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

It does sound really good…I love carnations, and most of the good ones have been ruined by the new restrictions on clove. Hope this makes up for it.

I love carnation, but now I want to buy this just for the name!

I, too, so want this… I’m imagining some cartoon carnations with angry faces taunting me.

Not a huge fan of most of Uncle Serge’s, barring La Myrrhe. But this? Oh, I want this. I really, really want this.

Count me in! I always say there’s not enough carnation fragrances in the world.

Even though I rarely end up loving them, SLs always sound very intriguing on paper. I hope they will be offering samples like they did with Jeux de Peau (which I wore again yesterday!)

And is it just me or have SL been really prolific recently? Is Duchaufour working for them too? I jest, I jest 😀

Same for me, the SLs always intrigue but rarely work for me. Still I love the idea of angry carnation! Must try.

perhaps it’s a nod to R&G Blue Carnation? I remember Madame Bovary had vitriol in a blue bottle…

I’m curious but not breaking a sweat. I’ve found carnation-centered fragrances don’t always work well on me; I’ve sort of gone off CdG Carnation for some reason. But of course I’m always intrigued to try a new Lutens.

I am very much looking forward to this one- love peppery carnationy scents! Uncle Serge and I are finally making friends. Although Jeaux de Peau was a hot mess, I actually own 2 Serges now (Arabie & Fleurs d’Oranger).

Isn’t vitriol something you hurl in anger at the object of your disaffection?

The notes do sound interesting, and I love carnation scents (and good ones are very hard to find these days), but I find the name a little off-putting, knowing that vitriol is another name for sulfuric acid. Trust me, sulfuric acid is NOT something you want to get on your skin (and I speak from experience!)

Has anyone tried The 7 Virtues Noble Rose of Afghanistan, which is described as “a spicy blend layered with carnation, peppercorn and clove?” Web site: http://www.the7virtues.com/fragranceline.php.

Just got my free sample- def. peppery and powdery, with a faint carnation scent. Reminds me a bit of Kenzo. It is really nice so far.
