Guerlain Idylle Duet ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 20 January 2011 28 Comments

Guerlain Idylle Duet fragrance

Guerlain will launch Idylle Duet in February. The new limited edition fragrance for women is a flanker to 2009's Guerlain Idylle, and is named for its focus on two notes, rose and patchouli.

Idylle Duet was developed by Guerlain house perfumer Thierry Wasser. Additional notes include jasmine, peony, freesia, lily-of-the-valley and lilac.

Guerlain Idylle Duet will be available in 35 and 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (via redonline.co.uk, diarydirectory)

The addition of rose and patch has me really wanting to try this. I tried and loved the original Idylle and it is on my must buy list after I went through a mini in a couple weeks. I was going to try the edt, but add my fave blend of rose and patch and it’s all over. 🙂 I can’t wait to try this.

You probably already know but I wasn’t terribly clear: there was already rose + patch in Idylle. Presumably they’ve just amped up those 2 notes. 🙂

I was just coming here to comment, “What, you mean there WASN’T ENOUGH D*MN PATCHOULI in the first version?!?”

I think I’d have liked it very much with less patch. Haven’t tried the edt.

I haven’t tried the EdT, but the patch in Idylle didn’t bother me and didn’t even remember it being so strong — maybe I need to try it again, it’s been awhile.

Oh, I’m sure it’s me. I seem to be very sensitive to patchouli. My test notes for Idylle were something like, “Nice musky rich-floral blend with too much patchouli.”

Although I notice that I tolerate patch better when it’s a) herbal and green rather than earthy, and b) holding hands with rose.

Further, I’m wearing Agent Provocateur today and finding it rather pretty.

Oh, isn’t AP nice? I always forget about it, it’s been around so long.

Mals, you really must be sensitive. I didn’t notice much in the original at all.

Yeah, I really am. Kind of scary.

Same here, Joe. I just got ‘pleasant musky floral’ and couldn’t discern any of the notes but the musk and maybe the violet. The patch must be that new and clean sort since I didn’t even notice it. But then again, my skin usually plays nice with patch and sometimes the note needs to be pretty dominant for me to smell it.

Robin, you know I totally forgot the rose in the original Idylle since it’s pretty much the same frag on me from spritz to drydown save for the musk becoming more pronounced about half an hour in. This does look intriguing since I might be able to pick up more of the rose and patch which is a blend for which I’m an absolute sucker. 😉

Oh, absolutely…I don’t think of it as a rose + patch scent either.

The bottle looks just like a garlic bulb to me. Not a welcome association for perfume!

It got some comments like that when Idylle launched, but they’re not likely to change it now 🙂

Garlic is generally white, so it looks more like an onion to me.

Regular Idylle was nice.. I’ll try if I come across it…. But is Rose and Patch the new oud?! I feel like we’ve seen many of those as of late =/

Oh yeah – patchouli and rose? I can’t wait to try this . . . and the sizes are reasonable too.

Yes, I like the small sizes.

They’re definitely rolling out the versions of this (if edt counts as a flanker).

Sounds interesting. I really do enjoy the original Idylle; I wonder if it’s doing well. For me, I just get distracted with other stuff, but I’d gladly own a small bottle (nice that they’re doing 30-35ml for this).

I wonder if it’s doing well too. Guerlain is so low-key in the US it’s hard to tell — based on my local perfume counters, you’d think they had a foot in the grave…they never have anything new and they’re always poorly stocked.

Guerlain HAS its foot in the grave, unfortunately. All their releases have been major flops and they lost their panache … They try but…no chance they are doomed ! 🙂

I really didn’t love the original. I won’t bother sniffing this unless I see it and have the skin space 🙂 Am I now jaded?????

Has anyone tried the EDT? Really curious about it.

I didn’t care for the original EDP because of the white musk, but the EDT is much more to my liking with the omission of the musk.

That bottle kind of reminds me of “I Dream Of Jeannie”. Anyhow, I do like Samsara (vintage 0f course). I will have to give this one a try. Looks as if there were no patchouli, it would be a straight out floral.

A flanker about rose and patchouli. Imagine that.

Those notes would be kinda scary were it not a Guerlain, I really want to try it. Lilac? I am SO there!

I’ve wanted this since it came out just because I couldn’t have it. I could not find it anywhere in the U.S. Then I missed a chance to get it in Asia so when I saw it in Europe (good ol’ duty free) I jumped on it. It is quite nice but a bit too “white flowers” on me. I wish there was more depth, more character. Basically, more patchouli and rose. I will be trying the new version.
