Silly girl! I always smell like myself. Myself just happens to smell like vintage Byzance right at the moment, that’s all.
Exactly!!
hehe shes a smart one.
i like that.
shes not followng the others and releasing her own perfume like the rest of em. 🙂
I hope she sticks to it.
Ha! The right offer hasen’t come along yet!
Hmm, interesting point she raises there. And further to that, why would anyone want to wear somebody else’s CLOTHES (like, I don’t know, maybe Burberry?) when you can wear your own?
Seriously though, I think it’s a bit of a tall order to take the high road on perfume but be perfectly happy to promote some other product in an effort to appear more credible.
Then again, maybe I’m being a little harsh?
So true! Although at least Burberry is known for making clothes, whereas most celebrities are NOT known for their skills in the field of perfumery, right?
I’ll go even further: why impersonate characters for a living when you can be yourself, Emma? That said, I kind of like her, she’s OK.
I’d beg the question what do you mean by “wear your own clothes”? Only items you sew yourself? Because by your logic, what’s the difference between wearing Burberry or wearing Target, they’re both brands by someone else.
You could even take that just a tad further. Make your own cloth. For that matter spin your own cotton, silk and wool. A very long process I must say. You can spin for HOURS and only have enough spun for a few inches of cloth. But I think at some point a line has to be drawn or we all go back to being basic hunter gatherers and farming, we won’t have time for anything else.
Exactly Kelly Red! It’s a silly point I’m making to sort of highlight what I think is a silly comment. To make a point about not wearing a perfume endorsed by a celebrity but be quite happy to wear a piece of clothing endorsed by a celebrity (whether it’s perfume or fashion, we all know the actual celebrity hasn’t actually created and constructed the product whether it has their name on it or not) seems a bit unfair on her part. Why is it ok to dress like someone else but not smell like someone else? Going by her logic, maybe we should start making our own clothes!
I like her better all the time. I think her point might be that a lot of people purchase a celebrity fragrance more for the name & image of the celebrity than for the fragrance itself. I happen to think it’s a bit silly as well.
She is awfully cute, I like her too.
Ditto all that.
Adding my dittoes. Good for her!
Of course they buy the fragrance for the name and image, and not the smell. At least, I hope so, otherwise people have truly horrible taste. Celebrity scents are awful.
Usually. I still have a soft spot for Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely.
this is also how I interpreted her comment, and why I think it’s different form a parallel saying “why promote Burberry” etc. – she’s not saying “don’t wear fragrance you don’t make yourself” I think she’s saying “choose fragrance based on how it smells, not whose name is on it” and I think that’s a good comment, not a stupid one.
Ms. Watson clearly isn’t looking to cash in on the aspirational celebrity scent fad, which is refreshing. However, I hope she recognizes that some perfumes are worn as works of art to enhance the self rather than to cover it over or trade it for a newer/better one.
I began to wonder if those celebrities smell like the perfumes they lend their names to after reading EW’s article. I remember Sarah Jessica Parker saying she layers/ wears 3 different fragrances; The only one I can remember is some Egyptian musk oil that she bought on the streets of NYC. Hmm.
I actually really like her. She doesn’t just follow blindly but thinks for herself. Right or wrong, I respect her choices and views for what they are to her.
I thought the same thing as Daisy. She might also not particularly like fragrance, which is OK, too. I recently read an article in Marie Claire about her–she seems very authentic and headed down a good path. Good for her!
The SJP Egyptian Oil + a cheap drugstore musk + one more thing was her inspiration, actually, for starting the “Lovely” project. SJP is a real perfumista. I bought the same oil, btw, off a table of a street vendor myself back in the mid-1980’s during college in Washington, DC. I layered it with other things. I thoroughly enjoyed reading that she’d done the same thing. Small bottle of pale yellow oil.
The other thing was Comme des Garcons something wasn’t it?
One of the incenses–Avignon, I think.
She hasn’t thought the whole matter out in all its details, but at least her opinion is somewhat thoughtful.
She states this while promoting her own ‘eco-friendly’ clothing line.
Why should someone want to dress like you, Emma?
Perhaps for YOUR profit?
Actors and athletes should NEVER be interviewed. Period.
Not a fan of this girl, she tries so hard. And what’s worse, strangers constantly tell me that I “look like Hermione!” It gets so very old :p
Come on, it is not that bad to look like Hermione. Be happy you do not look like Dolores Umbridge. LOL
