Overripe bananas with sugar and cinnamon

Posted by Robin on 13 October 2010 14 Comments

Overripe bananas with sugar and cinnamon. My grandmother used to make that for me when I was young. That was my favorite smell.

— Perfumer Francis Kurkdjian on the smell from childhood that has stayed with him, in The Samurai Shopper | My Favorite Nose at the New York Times. Many thanks to Kevin for the link!

I should go make some banana bread. I have some overripe ‘nanners on hand.

I was forced to eat a banana the other day….

Almost an interesting article; reads just like fluff-y celeb “interviews” though. Not really anything we didn’t know.

Mmm- my dad always makes a type of bastard bananas foster with ripe bananas. Now I’m thinking all about that. We always have tons of bananas fresh and otherwise in the house b/c my toddler is a banana monster. Where’s my Amaranthine?

I have ordered so many Demeter scents that they sent me one called, Banana Flambe. It smells, of course, exactly like that -warm sugared flaming brandied bananas that makes my mouth water.
The question is, what do I do with it? It doesn’t seem right to wear, and I don’t want my house to smell like it. Ideas anyone?

Gosh, I would wear it! But maybe you could layer it? Or swap it?

After thinking about it, I think I could use it in the morning when I need to eat breakfast but am never hungry. It’s definitely an appetite stimulant. It might be good for romantic encounters too. Aren’t guys supposed to be turned on by girls that smell like food?

Perhaps you have a co-worker or friend that might like it.
Seeing as you don’t want your home to smell like it, I assume the same holds for your vehicle.

Room spray, or a nice gift to a 14 year old teen girl.

Ah, funny that… overripe bananas are one of my all-time most loathed scents… I also very much dislike gourmand and overly vanilla scents…

I know this sounds weird but I had a cat that hated the smell of banana, she couldn’t stand it. I would hold out a banana and she would literally rear back her head I always thought I could see her wrinkle her nose :D She liked vanilla, oranges and almost everything else, but banana no way.
