Odin 04 Petrana ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 13 July 2010 18 Comments

Odin 04 Petrana fragrance

New York-based clothing retailer Odin will launch Odin 04 Petrana, a new fragrance:

Transported to a Jordanian desert landscape covered in blooming black iris comes a floral scent that reveals its dark complexion from earth to air. The heart of Petrana emerges from a foundation of wild orris root and green violet leaf absolute. Herbaceous coriander, spicy pink pepper and deep purple cassis float above the blooms infusing luminous freshness.

Odin 04 Petrana was developed by perfumer Jean-Claude Delville; additional notes include heliotrope, vetiver and white musk.

Odin 04 Petrana is available now for pre-order at Aedes, $110 for 100 ml. (via aedes, additional information via premiumbeautynews)

Update: see a review of Odin 04 Petrana.

Arrrgggghhhh! I finally tried Ambre Gris yesterday and was definitely put off by the huge thwack of pink pepper that showed up on my skin. It was like that note and the cinnamon spent the first half-hour vigorously and noisily arm wrestling to see who’d be the more dominant note, and I was so disappointed it was that strong that I’m still on the fence about the entire frag all together.

I must find a cure for this pink pepper fatigue. It’s everywhere and just added to the total lack of Ambre Gris-ness I was hoping to find. :(. I was hoping that violet leaf might be the new ‘it’ note, or maybe even orange blossom… But pink pepper seems to cling like Angel to a favorite sweater despite going through the rinse cycle. No offense, Angel. *pats bottle*

Angel’s a tough girl, she’ll get over it. ;) She has too many admirers to care.

Mind is blank — what brand is Ambre Gris?

Is it Balmain? I’m not awake enough to go check. :(

Yes, it was the Balmain. I’m sure Petrana is a perfectly lovely fragrance, but I am still pink peppered out at this point so likely my crankiness isn’t entirely warranted. But still… Ick.

Oh, right. Lots of people loved that one but it didn’t do anything for me.

You think you have it bad? Lately, I’ve become tired of bergamot. Half of everything starts with begamot!

And the other half also starts w/ bergamot and just doesn’t list it in the notes.

EXACTLY. I don’t mind bergamot, it’s just that you might as well whine about bergamot as about pink pepper…

Either a lot of the new releases haven’t been that entrancing, or I’m becoming lemming-proof.

I liked the first 3 from this line so would like to try this…

I know what you mean. I was going through the VK&A Extraordinare sample set last night, neglecting to check prices before I picked out three or so I really liked… Then nearly went into cardiac arrest after totaling the cost of acquiring them. Not to mention some Guerlains I’m lusting over. I actually went drugstore sniffing in a sheer fit of ennui and angst to try and find a new love under $40, and was reminded why, despite there being a few good frags, I’ve been so into niche frags as of late. But the new ‘free’ and most of my loves that fall into that category have my bank account running for the witness protection program. Ah well. I’m basking in Monyette Paris today and am reminded yet again just how much I adore it and wouldn’t change a thing. And, it very nearly falls under the under $40 category. :)

I still haven’t tried the first three. I suppose I *should* at some point. Right? Right? (sense the enthusiasm?) They sound well done, but this line is sort of just in the middle of the pack in terms of exciting my brain. And somehow this one sounds not very special to me at all or as intriguing as a couple of the first ones. I’m just glad they’re launching online ONE new one instead of another three.

I haven’t tried the first three yet, either. I think the #2 (the one based on Owari Satsuma mandarin?) is the one that sounded nice to me. This new one sounds very purple and potentially pretty!

None of the original three appealed to me in the least, but this one sounds like something I might like.

While the first three Odins are attractive enough–sweeter than I expected, but all wearable, none terrible–not one of them is so good that I wanted to run out and buy a bottle. I don’t expect the fourth to be any more ground-breaking.

They’re not crazy expensive, but if I were you I wouldn’t go out of my way to get some. If samples happen to drift your way, pick them up, but there are other niche lines more worthy of your time and money.

I’m sampling this today – it’s the first Odin I’ve tried. This is really quite nice. It’s all about the iris, orris, violet leaf on me. Probably won’t purchase it though. For a FB iris/orris thing, I’m saving my pennies for VC&A Bois d’Iris and/or Heeley Iris de Nuit.
