Kat Von D Adora ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 24 June 2010 34 Comments

Kat Von D Adora

Kat Von D will follow up on last year's Sinner and Saint fragrances with Adora, a new perfume for women:

Adora means "Beloved One" in Latin. For Kat, Adora reflects the next chapter in her personal evolution—an introspective renaissance discovered through deep layers, stories, and scars. She's a romantic soul with an edgy exterior. Adora is a sensual and passionate perfume journey—unexpected and provocative. This scent reveals a stirring glimpse into an enigmatic life…tortured, beautiful, and brutally honest.

The notes include lychée, boysenberry, thyme, cassis, hyacinth, jasmine, mango, patchouli, sheer musk and amber wood.

Kat Von D Adora is available now at Sephora, in 10 ml rollerball ($16) or 50 ml Eau de Parfum ($55). (via sephora)

I didn’t so much mind Sinner from her last outting in the fragrance world….though it wasn’t exactly a “sinful” fragrance (I rather considered it work appropriate).

Will definitely try, though mango often turns sulphuric on me, and the lychee can sometimes come off as over-ripe, nearly rotten. (Or maybe that’s just a bad association with the fruit – when I was young I’d obsessed over them in Costa Rica, put a few pounds in my suitcase, and by the time I got back to Kentucky the lychees turned into a goopy sweet-sour viscous mess.)

LOL —oh, sorry—shouldn’t be lauging; your luggage might have been ruined. I was just imagining the look on your face when you opened it and found stinky lychee puree!

Oh, that is horrible! I have no such association but still don’t like lychee notes in perfume.

To talk about “personal evolution” and “introspective renaissance” in relation to a fruity floral makes this ad copy worthy of Prix Eau Faux.

Yes… something about the tortured and brutally honest lychee, I think.

Hahaha, yes. Kat Von D is the biggest pile of trash. She is like a myspace profile in human form.

Don’t know if it is a fruity floral, but the ad copy is pretty entertaining anyway.

I actually really like Kat Von D, and was very, very afraid when she came out with a fragrance line. I just can’t imagine her being that into perfume– picture her more as someone who maybe wears patchouli oil. I’ve not smelled the Saint and Sinner fragrances, but heard they weren’t that bad. This doesn’t sound terrible to me (actually on board with the lychee idea), and the bottle is sort of fun. That said, I doubt I will ever try this or any of the others. There are too many things out there that actually excite me, and I want to try those instead.

They weren’t that bad. They weren’t that wonderful either, but that’s true of most perfumes :-)

I like Kat von D, as well. I have a sample bottle of Sinner that I got as a free perk at Sephora months. Unfortunately, it smells like a watered-down, less complex version of Midnight Poison — a fragrance I already have an abusive love/hate relationship with — and so I never wear it. It also turns into nothing more than vanilla and patchouli after a few minutes.

My fiance’ likes it well enough and almost bought a FB of it for me prior to me getting the sample, but he also is always trying to push the MP on me, as well. Last time I gave in I spent several hours at the ballet choking on my own fumes.

It’s hard to believe anything could be LESS complex than Midnight Poison, since, even though I really like it, it has about four accords to it. However, “turns into vanilla and patchouli” sounds about right.

I haven’t paid much attention to Kat Von D, but I wouldn’t have pegged her as the perfume type, either. I just figured she’d smell like Harley grease and tattoo ink. Goes to show.

” I just figured she’d smell like Harley grease and tattoo ink. ”

And there you have the answer… Kat Von D’s perfume shoulda’ve been developed by CdG!! ;-)

Then you’d get Harley Grease, Tattoo ink, and probably a very interesting fragrance!

To me the bottle looks like a glorified L’Artisan bottle…

It actually reminded me of JHAG (can’t remember which one was in the black bottle), but I can see that, too.

NO!! I did not!!! I was going to change my order, and they said, “Don’t worry, it’ll be in next week!” This was several weeks ago. I’m giving them to the end of the month, but that’s it.

MARCH… I ordered it in MARCH!

well daay-um, that’s an unusually long wait!!! This is Luckyscent, correct? seems like they could “do” something for you to make up for this crappy inconvenience!

Daisy, that’s what I keep hoping for. A little token of their remorse for tormenting me.

It’s just the Loccitane Notre Flore bottle.
It looks like it is a standard bottle and LÓccitane does not have exclusive rights to the design, as I remember some other perfumes that used it too (cannot remember which one specifically, but I do remember commenting on it)

I tried Sinner and it’s not bad at all, but not something I would wear much these days. It reminds me so much of something people wore in the late 80s, I think, but I have no idea what it was and it’s driving me nuts because it smells so familiar.

I feel compelled to jump in and defend Kat von D. She is a gifted artist and creates some wonderful pieces. The fact that her canvas is somewhat non-traditional (even though tattooing has a rich and long history) should not distract from that.
Not that I know her personally, my only insight is from various reality shows, but she seems like a kind and caring person. I have never tried her fragrances, just like miss kitty I did not want to risk the disappointment.

I’m so glad you posted this <3 She may have that certain look about her that makes some people uneasy but she's definitely a very capable artist.

I was hoping for edgy until I got to the notes, and then meh. :( I’d expect something that actually *was* edgy from Kat, but I suppose it all gets back to sales and marketing in the end anyway.

I’ve not been impressed with Saint or Sinner and this new one sounds like a mess to me. The thyme just confuses the hell outta me. I will say, though, her eyeshadow palettes are fantastic with wonderful pigmentation. But stay away from the eyeshadow duos and singles, unless you like super-dark colors to come off super-sheer with lots of chunky glitter.

I do love her makeup, mostly for the names. I just wonder how many teenagers out there wearing Turbo Lover eyeliner know that it’s named after a Judas Priest song.

I own a full bottle a Saint, a gift from my mom and sister. Its an easy to wear vanilla smell. Its the only perfume that I’ve gotten compliments on from guys when I wear it! I think guys like simple fragrances with notes they can identify : ) I was unimpressed with Sinner.

I’m excited to try this. I wouldn’t buy a full bottle (saving up for Mythique atm) but I’d buy a rollerball if I liked it.

If the fragrance is any good, hopefully they’ll release it in those badass purse bottles that Saint and Sinner had. Everyone keeps telling me they look like pepper spray haha.

Those ‘purse’ sprays are almost larger than the 50 ml bottles! They look like you could bludgeon someone with them.

Haha, they do! I think they’re actually 40ml though (and therefore cheaper) but I think they’re way cooler than the normal bottles! Definitely got my money’s worth on this one :)

Oh no! I tried the first two and really strongly disliked them. This one sounds horrid the Tyme also confuses me along with those other notes it doesn’t sound appealing. Also I hate it when they take the same bottle and paint over it LOL Where is the creativity the perfume can suck but surely she can be creative with the bottle.I expect Ed Hardy type bottles from her. This is another Fail she should just stick with the makeup and tatoos.
