Kat Von D Sinner & Saint ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 2 September 2009 39 Comments

Kat Von D Sinner & Saint perfumes

Tattoo and makeup artist Kat Von D has launched her debut fragrances, Sinner and Saint:

Sinner (above left) ~ "Light, delicate top notes of orange blossom, refreshing mandarin, and fleshy plum create a provocative, sultry heart. Rich jasmine blends seamlessly with a white-flower bouquet, beautifully tainted by the spicy warmth of cinnamon, an herb associated with ancient rituals of pleasure. A dark, mysterious back of earthy vetiver, patchouli, and woods enveloped in creamy vanilla and sensual musk lingers on the skin."

Saint (above right) ~ "The sweet nectar of Mirabelle Plum and sparkling juicy mandarin create an addictive, mouth-watering top. At the heart, exotic, heady Tiare flower and sweet, tempting caramel are adorned with the velvety floralcy of jasmine, the queen of the night, as she emits her spellbinding fragrance into the sky. Sensual vanilla and creamy musk combine with the warmth of sandalwood for a comforting dry down."

Kat Von D Sinner and Saint are available now at Sephora in 30 or 50 ml Eau de Parfum or 10 ml Eau de Parfum Roll-on. (via sephora)

I was wondering what the bottles would look like when I first read about these – I expected something more over the top, these are rather understated.

They’re pretty basic, other than the bottle neck.

do they seem like the names should be switched? or is it a sort of “saint” “sinner” wink wink going on?

And yes! a 10ml roll on….if only everything came with a 10ml roll on option —perfume sales would be UP!

I think Sinner is supposed to be spicy, and Saint is supposed to be sweet — but with these overly ornate descriptions it’s darned hard to tell.

Yeah, they both sound like fruity florals to me… ?

I had the same thought (esp when it says “jasmine, the queen of the night” – snort!). Of course, then I noticed that an awful lot of the notes are identical between the two…

”Sinner” reminds me a little of ”Magnifique” by Lancôme…

My first thought also is that the Sinner bottle reminds me of Magnifique. Descriptions sound more like Fruity Floral #1 and Fruity Floral #2… but agree that 10ml roll-on of anything is a welcome surprise. I need to pop into my local Sephora again at some point even though it kind of makes me break out in a cold sweat.

I just recieved samples of these in the mail from Sephora. They came on a card and just said “Kat Von D Fragrance #A” and “Kat Von D Fragrance #B.” Unless you were looking at the notes, it was pretty hard to tell which was supposed to be sweet and which was supposed to be sultry. There was another card explaining that they want you to guess & had the answer on it.

Could someone PLEASE tell me what the answer card says! I never got the answer card – just the two free samples marked Fragrance A and Fragrance B. I like Fragrance B – based on teh description I’d guess it’s Saint – but I just wanna know for sure! Please help!!! Thanks.

I’m afraid I have no idea…might be worth emailing Sephora’s customer support.

I am a sad Sephora cosmetics addict and while I wasn’t initially interested in Kat Von D’s product line, I read some really good reviews of her eye shadow palettes and bought one — it’s indeed pretty awesome. Maybe I’ll see if I can get a sample of one of these when I succumb to another lipstick or whatever.

Her makeup is pretty exciting. The only thing I wasn’t thrilled with was a black (well, “black”) lip gloss that I got in a set. I thought it would be fun to wear over red, but it was just a pinky silver. bleh.

The bottles look really similar to the L’Occitane Notre Flore bottles.
By the way, Ormonde Jayne ‘s “new” website is up. Those new bottles look gorgeous! And the new Perfume Tiare? An odd choice for it to launch in autumn, but we’ll see.
    Sorry for the OT.

I really like Kat Von D, but based on the descriptions I don’t think I’m going to like either of these. I know she probably had nothing to do with the making of the fragrance, but I can’t help but wish it was something a little edgier. At least a hint of leather? Somewhere?

They were smart to leave the tattoo designs off the bottles, since Ed Hardy kind of ruined that for everyone. Again, kind of a boring bottle for a not so boring chick.

Never heard of her (as usual)…but I think they could do a cool tattoo design right on glass, no?

Yes! Some sort of etched glass thing could have been cool. Whenever celebrities release boring things like this (I am, of course, making an assumption, since I haven’t smelled either one yet) I always figure they must really not like perfume. Because if it was me, I would be broken hearted that someone released something so banal in my name.

Apparently, many celebrities are willing to put up with banality so long as it makes $.

I thought Sephora came out with the perfumes-
because On the bottom of the bottle it said sephora…
but anyway- i tried Saint- it smells sweet. It is definitely mouth watering.
I’m not sure it matches with the name Saint though…

She’s probably licensed her name to Sephora then.

Kat Von D is one of Sephora’s in house brands. In my experience the Kat products have been good quality – a step up from the usual Sephora branded stuff, but also a step more expensive. I think they are selling it as a premium edgy youth brand to compete with Urban Decay et al.

the letter inscription in the bottle, really resembles Kat~~
anyway, the bottles are less x-factor for me, thinking that the perfumes are Kat Von D’s brand.
but i love the name, hope it smells good as it sounds…

I tried both of them, and liked both. I am definitely a foodie when it comes to perfume though. All I can smell of both is the vanilla, but that works for me, I kinda like the baked goods thing! I wouldn’t really place them as a fruity floral, rather as gourmand/foodie. Sinner is a bit less over the top sugary.
-also, the little rollerball sizes do have neat designs on them. actually more interesting than the larger sizes IMO

We thought the “Saint” smelled a lot like “White Patchouli” by Tom Ford, and “Sinner” smelled like “Rose Poivree” The Different Company–only not as rich in both cases. I’d like to get a bottle of both! I love Kat Von D!

I bought Sinner and I love the design on the bottle also. I found Sinner to be a bit intense in the warm climate I live in. The cinnamon really comes through after a few minutes. I also like the roller purse bottle. I think I’ll reserve this one for evenings or cooler weather.

I disagree that the bottles are boring. I have to say the bottles are beautiful with a slight edge. Had she gone too edgy they would of been terribly tacky. The bottles are not only good looking but feel substantial in the hand.
