Tiger bait

Posted by Robin on 8 June 2010 12 Comments

To wine and dine Sasha, a 450-pound Siberian tiger at the Bronx Zoo, try serving beef and rabbit. To lure him for a snack, whip out the frozen treats his zookeepers call "bloodcicles." But to really get his olfactory engines running, you need the secret weapon: Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men.

— From Big Cats Obsess Over Calvin Klein's 'Obsession for Men' at the Wall Street Journal.

Hmmm ….very interesting. L’Air du Temps only slightly less than Obsession- talk about 2 different fragrances! Mental note to self though – watch the animalic fragrances on next zoo visit….

Yes…and was thinking they need to try vintage Jicky…wonder what some real civet would do.

All this time I thought animals flocked to my house because they knew I’d take in any stray. Maybe it’s been my perfume the whole time. (But I’ve never worn Obsession.)

A past boyfriend of mine (in the early 90’s) used to wear this…oh my. Smelled amazing on him. Funny, though, that I had a short-term moonlighting job at the Filene’s men’s fragrance counter in 2003 (the job was a blast while it lasted, let me tell ya), and it seemed that the only men who bought Obsession were OLD! Like 50+! Interesting cause I always thought of CK as a young men’s fragrance. Shows what 20 years will do to a scent!

Wonder what’s in it that tigers like???

I don’t know what’s in Obsession, but I know at wildlife rescues they often sprinkle cinnamon in the big cats’ enclosure as environmental enrichment. Obsession always smelled very cinnamon-y to me.

Guessing Ann Gottlieb is right, the civet + synthetic musks.

Didn’t My Sin have civet in it (and probably musk as well)? I have some My Sin from the early-mid 80’s. I wonder what would happen if I wore it to the zoo?

Might not be worth finding out 😉

I think the WSJ editors must cruise this blog for ideas. Remember Angela’s recent entry about fragrances and “enrichment” at zoos?

But Google the subject and you’ll find other articles on the same subject — Angie’s was not the first 🙂
