Laura Mercier Ambre Passion Elixir ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2010 41 Comments

Laura Mercier Ambre Passion Elixir perfume oil

Laura Mercier has launched Ambre Passion Elixir, a new take on 2005's Ambre Passion fragrance for women:

Laura Mercier introduces Ambre Passion Elixir, a 100% deeply concentrated precious oil inspired by her longtime love of Amber and original fragrance, Ambre Passion. The Elixir prolongs the Ambre Passion experience with musk heightened to a more sensual level and through the use of the most distinguished perfumery ingredients: Geranium, Saffron, Patchouli, Jasmine, Amber, Cedarwood and Musk. Apricot and Rose notes add a touch of femininity with an intoxicating appeal to this latest version of the Ambre Passion family. The result is a fully rounded oil elixir that is classically elegant, sophisticated and instantly addictive.

Laura Mercier Ambre Passion Elixir is available in 15 ml, and can be found now at John Lewis in the UK for £75. (via johnlewis)

Just a question – what is 100% deeply concentrated? Isn’t that a kind of, er, impossibility with perfumes? Unless, I suppose that they mean the carrier is 100% oil?

It means it thought REAL hard about being a precious oil and gave it all it’s got!

I didn’t get much sleep last night.

        LOL!

Agree though, it means nothing…I am sure the concentration of fragrance materials is not 100%.

Damn near the “one hundred and ten percent” mark, Miss Kitty. ;-)

LOL! Immediately made me think of a card on my fridge from a friend: “Are tangerines just oranges that didn’t want it enough?”

I sort of interpreted it to mean the frag is 100% oil, and the “deeply concentrated” referred to the scented parts… but know nothing, other than that oils don’t work for me anyway.

Oh sweet baby Jesus. The bottle is very nice, and I’m sure it will smell great, but 75 euros for 15 ml??? You’re Laura freakin’ Mercier! Not even a legitimate perfume house, just a makeup line with a few body products! Could you imagine if Bobbi Brown started charging those prices?

It is quite spendy, which is probably why it’s in limited distribution. I think Harrods has it too, but not sure where else.

It sounds beautiful and I’ve liked other fragrances by Laura Mercier.
Oils aren’t my thing though. At £75 /15ml it’s not horribly expensive for parfum concentration …I just prefer an Edp .

I did not love the original, but then I’m not a big amber freak.

The original smelled like amber with a burnt smoke accord floating around. Not bad, but not FBW either. It would be interesting to smell how this one compares.

Well, I hate amber so I can cross this off the list. The bottle is really lovely, though.

            Ms. Daisy,
You can send me any patches you don’t like. I adore them (along with ambers).

          • AnnS says:
            26 May 2010 at 4:11 pm

I like patch and amber and especially labdanum… umm, super yum! And I love that Coromandel! Actually I never realized how much I like patch until I realize that a majority of the fragrances I really like these days have patchouli in them somewhere!!!

PSST – anyone who wants to try some rockin’ ambers and woods should check out the Ambre Noir from Sonoma Scent Studio.

I’m a freak, what else can I tell ya. There are ambers that I’ve liked, but overall it burns my sinuses. My partner had a thing of amber body butter, and it “accidentally” fell into the trash. Oops. Now, I do feel the need to say that it’s not that I don’t like the actual smell of amber, as weird as that sounds–it just makes me sick. Ok, that probably doesn’t make any sense.

lol about the oops! Did you replace it something that is more agreeable to your nose?
I do get what you’re saying about something you just can’t tolerate. I have reactions to things like that myself. Not to myself, just …well, you know what I mean.

It was attacked by a bottle of CdG 3. I couldn’t smell anything but it for three days. I’ve never experienced anything like it before, and never want to again.

nose numbing perfume? egad. I’m so sorry. It sounds like when I accidentally get a snout full of Chlorine tablets….(the dust goes right for your nose everytime) for the rest of the day everything has the overlaying scent of chlorine….that sound you hear is my brain cells dying….

I don’t hate it, but not wild about it…and will probably get flamed but didn’t think the original was any big deal.

I love Ambre Passion, so I was excited about sniffing the Elixir. It’s VERY oily – sat on top of the skin for ages and I got a stain on my dress! It’s sweet, even sweeter than the EdP, but is recognisably Ambre Passion, without the herbal edge.

Oh no-amber in oil form?? I’d love to try it. That is VERY spendy for what you’re getting. Heavy oily texture doesn’t scare me off either.
On the other hand…. Youth Dew bath oil has amber, rose, spice and carnation, AND it can be found for a song, $32 dollars for 2oz.

My fav oil amber is the good old cheapie Auric Blends “Amber”. I love that stuff, and it costs like $7.00 for a roll on. And then my next fav “amber” is L’Air du Desert Marocain, lol. From one extreme to the next! Actually the Calyspo Christianne Celle Amber is pretty good and soft too. It is in the same ball-park as the new Prada amber.

Amber is one of my favorite scents. I have an overabundance of amber based perfumes and tend to wear them year round. Pure amber oil would be lovely but this price is kind of over the top. One of my favorite amber smellies is a strange amber solid I found in Thailand for super cheap. It’s sort of a crystal texture in a wooden pot but smells like pure amber and lasts forever. I think I paid less than $5.

I adore amber and those notes sound right up my alley, and I also love oils, but I’m going to avoid the dress stain Nina mentions and maybe get a sample of the EDP.

I love the sound of this … except that it’s an oil. I haven’t had great luck with them. I do love amber — although in today’s humidity, it sounds pretty unappealing!

I sort of understand some people’s aversion towards oils but as I grow more environmentally aware; I have almost completely turned towards attars, oils and the solid perfumes. This Ambre Passion elixir appeals to me but I don’t know how strong it is; definitely would not buy without a sample first. But oils I love! If you live in a humid hot dry place, the best way is to incorporate the scent oils when you are moisturizing after a bath using a carrier oil which is also good for your skin.

I had never tried Ambre Passion so I did today: if I had tested it blind, I would have sworn it was SL Ambre Sultan. Anyone else think it’s a dead ringer for it?
