Comme des Garcons Wonderwood ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 20 May 2010 35 Comments

Comme des Garçons Wonderwood fragrance

Next up from Comme des Garçons will be Wonderwood, due to launch in late June:

An evocation of exuberance.
A positive overdose of woods, woody notes and synthetic wood constructions (Wood gone mad).

Reportedly the "structure is very fluid with most of the WOOD IDEAS concentrated in the heart, rather than the base"; the notes include Madagascan pepper, bergamot, incense, nutmeg, cristalon (a floral fruity note with rosy, plum and apple nuances), cashmeran, gaiacwood, cedar, caraway, javanol (sandalwood), sandalwood, vetiver and oud.

If you missed it, see the video promo.

Comme des Garçons Wonderwood will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via number3store.blogspot,  wonderwood-parfum)

Update: Wonderwood was developed by perfumer Antoine Lie.

Sounds like it has potential. Any idea who the perfumer is?

That’s why I must have it! So funny. Thank goodness it’s CdG and sounds fantastic, because I really would just buy it on name alone.

I hope the fruity nuances are very soft.

The notes sure sound promising! The name made me think of the Oasis song Wonderwall & I can’t get it out of my head now.

Oh, that’s what I thought of too! They should have done a song instead of a video.

I love all the notes (I don’t know Cristalon) and as long as the javanol (it can be a brute) is kept in control, this could be great.

From the Givaudan Annual & Financial Report:

    “Cristalon™
A floral fruity note with rosy, plum
and apple nuances, with a woody
    background; the most interesting
    and attractive isomer of ethyl
    safranate, synthesised selectively
    and economically.”

i agree with your worries regarding the javanol as well, ebanol would have been a better and less control requiring element , as for the Cristalon the facet of apple in it worries me in the case of this perfume IF it was traceable .

This sounds really good, but I may have been scared off CdG forever. I sampled 3 on Monday, and I swear I am just now getting the scent out of my sinuses. I was starting to get to the point of thinking I would never be able to smell anything but it again, and how sad it would be that I would have to sell off my entire perfume collection. Luckily I seem to be in the clear.

Oh no! I know some of them are odd but some of my faves are CdG! It’s a big line – hope you find something you like. And like Joe I want to know what you tried.

I don’t understand the advert for this AT ALL.

Wonderwood launched this week and is exclusive, at Selfridges.
    £48 for 50ml edp

My GF just bought me this fragrance and I love it! She works for Selfridges, London. She tells me they have an exclusive on it for the next couple of months (in UK at least) until the general release.

Am wearing for first time today, and two people at work have commented and asked what it is!!

an Eau de Parfum launching for a woody scent during the peak of the summer? i do believe they are doing so to create the buzz, fo when the weather is right to wear it, the perfume name will be peaking .

I haven’t smelled it yet, but if I had to guess from the notes I’d say the oud.

    Hi,
I just tried this from Barney’s in Vegas. Have always wanted to try CdG fragrances. Tested many at the counter with a really great sales lady who didn’t mind sampling a whole bunch of CdG.
This is definitely woody which I like. Wouldn’t say it has a long long life on my skin, but mellowed down to persistent sandalwood. Am thinking of getting it – will try it again today, decide tomorrow.
