A supermarket will trial scratch-and-sniff labels on its flowers to give shoppers a whiff of what's to come.
Waitrose decided to test scented stickers on its Oriental Lilies after discovering customers prefer to buy flowers when the petals are closed, before their scent is released.

IMHO, lilies don’t smell good AT ALL, so they will fail based on a bad flower choice. They should have tried with something that smells nice.
Oh but I love lilies!
I have some Stargazers blooming in my office as we speak – mmmmm
In my experience, the only supermarket flowers that actually have any smell are carnations. The roses in the stores (whether supermarket, discounter or fancy florist shop) are varieties selected for their form and vase life, and usually have no scent. I have never noticed much scent from the lilies either, although the Easter lilies in my garden smell wonderful.
Just got some wonderful freesia last week which smelled lovely, but agree on the roses…the supermarket ones are not the best for scent.
The chance of them creating a scratch-and-sniff that remotely resembles the flower is dicey, I’d think.
It’s odd to think there’s anyone who doesn’t know the smell of a lily anyway? But maybe, what do I know.
In any case, seems like an awful lot of work for the rare case where someone thought, “Oh, I didn’t know these flowers would smell like THAT.”
