Benetton Verde, Blu, Rosso, Giallo ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 10 May 2010 19 Comments

Benetton Verde, Blu, Rosse, Giallo colori fragrances

Benetton has launched a new quartet of fragrances "representing an homage to Benetton's history and presence, inspired by the iconic colors and the wool stitch - timeless elements of the brand's DNA".

Verde ~ for men, with "a powerful calming influence", and featuring notes of grapefruit, cardamom, melon, violet leaf, geranium, nutmeg, cedar, gaiac and benzoin.

Blu ~ also for men, "the blue of infinity", with lavender, lemon, cool air accord, rosemary, clary sage, basil, cedar, patchouli and cocoa bean.

Rosso ~ for women, "anger and passion, love revolution and romance"; the notes include mandarin, cedrat, passion fruit, peony, jasmine, seringa, styrax, vanilla and patchouli.

Giallo ~ also for women, "energy, optimism, happiness", and with notes of anise, water fruits, spearmint, red fruit, rose, violet, lotus flower, white peach, musk, vanilla, white woods and tonka bean.

Benetton Verde, Blu, Rosso, Giallo are available in 30 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. They are available now in Italy and scheduled for wider distribution over the rest of the year. (first quote via Benetton at Facebook, additional information via benetton, cosmeticnews)

Indelibly tied to the late 80s in my mind.

Do they still have bricks/mortar stores here? I haven’t seen one in… decades?

They do, in fact they have 5 or 6 in CA alone. But there don’t seem to be nearly as many as there were when I was of the age when I shopped there.

Yeah, there’s a Benneton at my local mall and then an outlet about a half hour away. I have never tried one of their fragrances before though.

Oh, Benetton, it reminds me of my Italian origins. Good thing they chose to go for the 30ml size, easy to travel with. I don’t know why when I come across Benetton/Lacoste and similar releases, I immediately think “good for gym” and turn away :o)

Well, they aren’t usually masterpieces…but you never know, right?

I’ve never sniffed a Benetton product so can’t say how good or bad I’d expect them to be….BUT since they are clearly aimed at teens, wouldn’t it be nice if they stole away some of the Axe devotees of the world?
Oh, and does the boy on the right remind anyone else of Mick Jagger (about a million yrs ago) ?

How on earth did you manage to miss the original? It was everywhere, along with Love’s Baby Soft, exclamation! and some of those other cheapie drugstore hits of the 80s. The kids who had enough money to be in ski club wore Benetton instead. I can still smell it in my mind, and as someone w/terrible olfactory memory, that’s impressive. :D

I dont think I’ve ever smelled anything from Benetton either, although I’ve smelled exclamation. Its worth a try…

LOL…I should clarify that my “how did you miss it?!” was a reflection on its ubiquitousness, not its quality or “must-smell” status. :) That aside, almost anything is worth a sniff.

I remember Love’s Baby Soft from my teen years….that was everywhere at school (vile stuff …used to make me gag) but other from that I don’t remember being around much fragrance —we lived way out in the sticks so any sort of socializing was pretty minimal and my mom was pretty anti-anything girly and perfume was “girly” in the extreme…I was lucky to have a tiny bottle of Chanel no5 squirreled away in my room (thank you Gramma) and could only apply a tiny dab if I was leaving the house —so I wouldn’t be polluting mom’s air space.

The main Benetton fragrance of the 80’s (if it had a name, I don’t remember it–hexagon shaped bottle maybe?) was a really loud amber. It was one of the few things I had to sense to stay away from in the 80’s.

        Pentagon, actually.

Both the original women’s and men’s scents were really very good for low-end mass market (they have now of course been reformulated into unrecognizability). Tribu was novel, and had great packaging. Other than those, none of their scents ever made any impression on me at all.

I quite like the look of these new ones, but I can’t imagine why they just didn’t make them all unisex.

I loved Tribu back in the day and still have an almost empty bottle at home, which I keep mainly for nostagia’s sake.

This kind on makes me nostalgic and sad. I hardly ever shopped Benetton but I loved their exuberant, multi-cultural ads in the 80s. I had them up on my wall next to my world map and travel pictures. I always thought I was going to travel everywhere and study all of these cultures and meet all these people as a roving anthropologist. However, 9/11 clipped my wings. As an American I’m too terrified to travel anywhere internationally now. Even Canada! (Border security horror stories.)

That said, I’d like to try all of these and the 30ml availability would definitely encourage me to purchase. And that boy on the far left of the ad certainly brings out my inner cougar (er, puma?). *slaps own hand*
