Apple, strawberry, huckleberry and lemon

Posted by Robin on 13 April 2010 31 Comments

Fruit scented stamps, Germany

Every year, Germany releases a set of stamps in January that help to support designated charities. This year, they're scented:

In a new twist, however, the stamps are scratch and sniff, with customers able to choose between apple, strawberry, huckleberry and lemon scents.

German daily the "Berliner Zeitung" reported on January 7 that the scent - which is only released upon scratching the stamp's surface - is made possible with scented oils wrapped in miscroscopic capsules.

In March, a rose-scented stamp was issued as well. (quote via germany.info, found via wwd)

This reminds me… I should write to the cousins in Heidelberg…

Is it gauche to actually REQUEST that they mail their return letter with a scratch-n-sniff stamp? I think it might be…

Maybe only if you insist on a specific scent, LOL…

These are great! A friend of mine was in Germany recently and brought me a card with a strawberry stamp on it – the smell is pleasant, although to me it smells more like strawberry bubble gum than actual strawberries. But still, a great idea!

Just the other day I was watching chef Heston Blumenthal make lickable wallpaper as part of his Willy Wonka themed Chocolate Factory Feast. It had thin stencils of prawn cocktail, tomato soup, apple and more!

Have you tried the new Wonkas, by the way? I couldn’t resist, just for fun (Waterfall! Scrumdiddlyumptious!). Not spectacular, by any stretch, but decent, basic candy bar variety chocolate.

Robin and boo, I have tried the candy bar – you’re right, not a spectacular taste, but they’re right on the money with packaging and design. Worth a look!

I actually got a sheet of the French chocolate ones on eBay! The chocolate scent smelled pretty cheap, unfortunately, but the idea was cool.

I imagine one of these would do a nice job of scenting the mailbox on a really warm summer day. I’d love to get some. Wasn’t there chocolate-scented stamps a couple years back? I want to say those were from France, but I might be wrong on that. 🙂 Anyway, what a fun idea.

I shall have to ask my good friend in Munich to pick me up a set of these lovely ‘Briefmarken’! Thanks for the news. I’m not a “real” collector, but I LOVE postage stamps.

Wow! The stamps are very lovely in their artwork. Scenting them is a unique idea that should result in extra sales, especially for collectors.

        Hi Tara,
Robin has my Email-Adress. I don’t want to post it here. If Robin would be so kind, she can give it to you. If you let me have your address then, I can ship them to you. I will put them onstamped in an envelope. Is that OK for both Robin and you?

If you still want them, please let me know. I have 4 stamps (from every sort 1 stamp). You can have one or all of them (of course for free).
