L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 22 March 2010 105 Comments

L'Artisan Parfumeur Nuit de Tubéreuse fragrance

L'Artisan Parfumeur will launch Nuit de Tubéreuse, a new fragrance built around tuberose absolute:

A perfume for a secret Parisian summer night

Parisian summer nights are too romantic to be resisted. The bright lights and vibrating Paris night life are intoxicating, almost hypnotic. They have a kind of transparent grace about them, a secret sensuality, a disturbing magic that electrifies the senses.

Nuit de Tubéreuse was developed by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour; the notes include tuberose, cardamom, clove, pink pepper, pepper, citrus, tuberose, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, rose, mango, angelica, gorse, sandalwood, palisander, musks, benzoin and styrax.

L'Artisan Parfumeur Nuit de Tubéreuse will be available in 50 ($115) and 100 ($155) ml Eau de Parfum. (via lartisanparfumeur.blogspot)

Let me know about splitting! I care not for the bottle (I mean, it’s pretty but whatevs; I just want the juice).

It’s been a couple of months since I splurged on a scent, so the time is ripe and my wallet is slightly fatter.

I think it’s a given that we Tuberose Hos have to sniff the latest one to come down the pike.

Unfortunately, I’m still catching up to all the ones that preceded my interest in perfume, so I’m running as fast as I can! I haven’t tried the HdP Trilogy, and the Prada Infusion hasn’t made its way to the US yet, so you’re already ahead of me.

Tuberose is a difficult note for me but if anyone can, it would be Bertrand Duchaufour. Even the stuff of his I don’t like I admire save Fleur de Laine but if JCE can’t sell me on melon aquatics, who can?

I just started my third perfume journal and I always keep the first couple of pages blank for wish lists, and one side is already full. I keep trying to add things to the top of the list. The Hermessessences are my next project. Sometimes I still feel like such a newbie!

They do have some interesting names Winifrieda. I think I like “Freschiiissimo” and “Fraaagola Saalaaata” best, though “Acquiilssssima” is pretty funny, too. 😉
Maybe my Prix eau Faux should be named something like “Parfffummmeee di Bellllalilissssimooo.”

I was just where you are a year ago and, personally speaking, the Hermessences are definitely worth exploring. ‘Course, I’m one of the lucky ones who lives 15 minutes from an Hermes. Hope you’re similarly lucky–I personally hate buying samples. It’s so risky. =o

No moonlighting – I guess my snake decided to type that one out for me.
I still feel like a newbie, but I’ve been obsessively reading about and researching perfumes, perfume houses, noses, etc. for about a year now, AND I’ve done more than my fair share of sampling and purchasing. My collection of samples and full bottles is nothing to sneeze at (hee, hee). I have a solid foundation of classic and niche fragrances, but no cohesive plan for a fragrance “wardrobe” other than “me likey.”. Une Rose Chypre has sent me on a double path of roses and chypres – but where to start? I have a few fb of great rose fragrances (Lyric, Epic, Une Rose Chypre, Rose Alexandrie), but I’ve never smelled a Montale rose. I have already had my tuberose phase, so this one doesn’t make me feel overwhelmed. I don’t feel the need to go out and sample every white flower out there (done that work already), I just know I want this one. I will probably sample before buying a FB, then again, I might just order it when it becomes available. I should be Daisy’s assistant based on the number of FB I have.

As it often happens, if you liked it so much I will probably succomb too…
Though for some time I’ll have to settle with samples only!!!
BTW, that “mango” note scares me quite a bit. I am ubersensitive to these tropical fruits, and they often manage to spoil my perfume-pleasures.
(for example, I get loads of melon from Carnal Flower, a perfume I love, but would love more without that melon and the bubblegum accord…). Anyhow, BD is an authorship I can’t miss, like DR for frederic malle….and tuberose, of course…

Yes, the ONLY note in there that worries me is that mango. I even like pink pepper (so there, nyah to all you pp snobs…). I did like the mango in Jardin sur le Nil, though, but whatever tropical stuff that is in Calyx just did me in. Guava? Whatever it is, it did NOT like my skin, and just rotted all over me. But I admit to liking the melony note in Carnal Flower.

Definitely interested in sniffing, but I think I’m seriously getting perfume fatigue.

I thought the Histoires de Parfums did a really good Tuberose trilogy (at least the two I tried) and now here this comes to suck all the air out of the room. How short our attention spans are.

All that aside, I love Duchaufour and tend to be a L’Artisan fan, but I’m starting to wonder exactly what factors are at play that make a group collectively shriek over one launch and not at another. Obviously history of the house and the perfumer have something to do with it.

Bottom line: if you want to get a tuberose fix without waiting X number of months (and moaning and groaning about it every minute until the L’Artisan shows up for sale), order some samples of the recent Histoires de Parfums.

    Sorry for the crankyrant. 😀

Hee, hee! Joe, if I want a tuberose fix I’ll go to my perfume drawer and spritz on some Carnal Flower, or Fracas, or… I’ve never met a Histoire de Parfum that I love yet, and their line is hard to get a hold of for me. L’Artisan is actually available without order, and I adore both the line and Duchafour. So that’s the why for my shrieking…

I do understand, and I definitely get caught up in plenty of OOH moments myself (but couldn’t wait for Havana Vanille and was disappointed).

I’m just getting tired of the ratrace, or am starting to feel like this is a game of who can sample what first sometimes. Just my mood today… not meaning to dampen everyone else’s.

I mean, at some point, there’s nothing THAT new and exciting under the sun. This bottle isn’t going to give you whiter whites!! The perfume Grabby Mentality is butting up against my Buddhist ideals of breaking the cycle of craving & aversion. Whoa. HA.

well, I normally don’t rave like this in advance, but I do have a tuberose-“faible” (I even grow the stuff), and yes, I also have to try the new histoire de parfum series… and I already have FBs of tubereuse criminelle and Do Son and several samples… but the ultimate woody tuberose scent is one of my three holy grails 🙂

And I should add–haven’t been feeling the “need this” feeling for awhile now, or even been very interested in trying new things. I let a couple of things go by on *bay recently that I’d been stalking for months and months. So I’m actually just excited to feel excited!

I think I’m lemming because a) I am a card-carrying Tuberose Ho, b) Denyse raved, c) I like Duchaufour, and d) the notes just *sound so great.*

I can wait. I have a whole bunch of tuberose scents left to test, and a couple of great tubey decants (CF and BKBL). It’s just that there isn’t anything else out there with that woody take on tuberose. Judging by notes and the reviews I’ve read, the HdP TT did not grab me, although I’ll probably break down and order samples at some point.

Soon as this thing’s out, though: I’m ORDERING A DANG SAMPLE.

I’m patiently waiting…just cuz tuberose ain’t my thang. 😀 Given that most LAPs work well for me though, I get more excited over their releases than, say…Guerlain’s, which don’t. And funny timing for your comment… I was just re-reading the announcement of the VC&A collection, and associated comments of the same ilk.

Joe, I have SERIOUS new perfume fatigue, no doubt. I am very interested in trying this, but it is nearly impossible for me to call up the sort of desperate I NEED THIS reaction I would have had a few years ago. Nobody seems to agree with me, but I still say the best thing that could happen to the perfume industry is if they were required by law to release no more than 500 new fragrances a year.

I like your rule. I’ve spent so much time (and money) looking backwards at the splendor of the great classics, and newer things that may become classics, that I sometimes get panicky about new releases. I want to keep up with the new stuff, but I’m still playing catch up with the great things that are already out there. Sometimes new releases overwhelm me, esp. the ones released as sets like the Hermesessences or the Exclusifs. I feel like I am behind before it is even possible for me to sniff the things. At least this is a single perfume composed by a nose I like, based on a note I love, from a house I generally find agreeable.

Oh, don’t get me wrong — I look forward to this one too! It’s just that I feel like hey, I can wait. Plenty more to try in the meantime.

I know, I’m really looking forward to it too, but can a human even keep up with 5,000 new releases a year? I may have read the names of that many perfumes in the last year, but I’m sure I didn’t sniff or buy that many. I do like Joe’s point about flocking with anticipation to one new release and not to another. I think of how many things I haven’t smelled yet (vintage Joy extrait for example) and get overwhelmed. I did just score a vintage bottle of Diorissimo for under $20. Can’t wait to sniff it!

Robin, I got that I GOTTA TRY THIS feeling, but of course very few of us experience as much perfumes as you do…
Which leads me to my offtopic though…
Have you though of doing your own fragrances book?
I mean you’d probably get tired just to thinking about it but…(cue drumroll)….
What about “the 101 fragrances that shaped the 2010’s” by Robin of Now Smell This, one of the most influential fragrance blogs of the world. 🙂

No interest in a book, really — I can say whatever I want here, and keep it up to date, and do it in whatever way I want. A book would be behind the times by the time it was published.

It’s true: there are far more intriguing scents than I have money to buy and arms to try them on!

I hear what you are saying, Joe. My excitement is directly correlated to Duchaufour’s mastery. Tuberose and me *usually* clash, but if anybody could resolve our issues, it would either JCE or BD. So, I’m eager to see if BD can make it happen!

Same here. I’m eager to try anything created by Duchaufour! However, May will be here in a flash. You won’t hear me moaning and groaning. Too busy for that, darn it!

      Late to the party…
I know what you mean Joe, and I am not usually in the “desperate to try” mode.
However tuberose always gets me excited because the tubey fixes I have just bring along so much happiness!
And maybe, once you get a decent set of HGs, you loose the urge of searching for THE perfume, but until then you always wonder if taht wil be it: something you love unconditionally… At least this is my very personal opinion.

p.s. The tuberose HDP trilogy didn’t ring bells for me….but I will try it, if and when it comes to reach…

It looks lovely and sounds appealing, but the last few Duchaufour releases haven’t worked for me, so I’m reserving judgement. Plus I just bought a new bottle of Tubereuse Criminelle. But I will happily test it this summer when it comes out!

I am normally a no-go for tuberose, but the other notes read so lovely! I will have to try this one too. Let me get in line.

Is tuberose the latest trend? I’m thinking of Histoires de Parfums’ new trilogy…

There are so many new fragrances that it’s hard to tell what notes are a trend and what notes are appearing more than once due to simple law of averages…

That’s true and very funny. Later read your comments about keeping launches to 500 per year. Good idea 🙂 So many new fragrances and they still don’t re-issue Le Feu d’Issey…

So true!! Surely among the thousands, we could have poor Feu d’Issey back.
