    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone,
    I only have one question,

    what is your favorite dish
    and
what fragrance are you wearing today?

Mashed potato + stuffing (have to be mixed together). And no perfume today!

Favorite Thanksgiving dish: Yams, with much, much too much butter and brown sugar. (And no marshmallows.) They’re in the oven right now.

Fragrance: Today I’m wearing Tubereuse Couture. I should be wearing Sushi Imperiale – it’s my holiday season scent. But the Tubereuse Couture is shiny new.

I’m thinking of buying a sample of Sushi Imperiale from LuckyScent. The name intrigued me, and then it sounded fun from the description.

Ditto all that (except the being Canadian part). I’ll add a new favorite dish too: my father hates poultry, so to rescue him, the last few years I’ve brought a cranberry pork roast made in the crockpot. It’s a very simple recipe passed on by a group of friends, and deeelish.

My favorite dish would have to be cheese sauce made with extra sharp cheddar, because I pour it all over everything and it makes everything taste of cheesy goodness and also cuts the calories of anything it touches in half!

No fume for me today, although after dinner I sampled a couple CDG Incenses, Ouarzazate and Jaisalmer. So far I prefer Ouarz.
Hope you all had a wonderful day!

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving – does having roast turkey with stuffing and dripping with gravy at Xmas count?

Today I wore Kenzo eau de Fleur Silk. I didn’t even know there were silk flowers and that they had a scent. I got a sample vial earlier this year when it was released in Adelaide and just had my first spray of it this week. On my skin, it reminds me of tea – spiced tea, a bit like chai. I think it’s perfect for summer.

It’s Thanksgiving no more, but I went on a laptop moratorium yesterday before I saw this thread, so here’s my contribution. Favorite dish: corn pudding, Pennsylvania Dutch version. It has been on my Thanksgiving table all but two years of my life. I love it, and the recipe is one of the few tangible links I have to many people who are no longer here to share the holidays.

Scent: Five o’clock au gingembre, which I thought would coordinate with the holiday mood, yet not be too overpowering.

Sweet Potato Casserole or glazed brussels sprouts with toasted sugared pecans.

I love very tart homemade cranberry sauce. The big hit of my contributions to this year’s feast was coquito. On T-Day I wore 1740 Marquis de Sade. Sadly, nobody asked me about it.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s a month early, but my sister gave me Kat Von D’s Sinner (purser spray version) for Christmas :) Most badass perfume bottle I own.

Also..While in Sephora, I went to the male fragrance counter and I realized that for me to like a male fragrance, it has to be love at first sniff. For my own scents, I usually have a pretty good idea of what I want, but I still take samples and try the fragrance out for some time before actually buying it. But it has to be completely the opposite for a male fragrance.

The magic of a male scent for me is to have an irresistible attraction to it. Just like how you can see a hot guy across the street and tell that he’s hot, instead of being like “Well… I’ll have to think about this more carefully to discern if he’s hot.” Hehehe.

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Favorite dish: this year it’s a toss-up between my mother’s party potatoes (made with cream cheese, half&half and butter!!!) and my sister-in-law’s cranberry sauce made with orange peel and port wine. Needless to say I am slipping quickly into a food coma.
SOTD: Tauer Une Rose Chypree (from my sample that is nearly gone!)

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! :-)

Quiet day at home this year, just my little family of 3….So it was a small dinner roasted chicken (because we don’t like turkey) yummy gravy and just two side dishes today –the CEO asked for ‘cheesy potatoes’ (which are not only very fattening but addictively tasty so I don’t make them very often), and acorn squash (won the veggie vote) and mincemeat pie (because ya gotta have pie)
tomorrow I’ll whip up some sweet potatoes with pineapple and marshmallows….that’s usually my favorite. But for now everyone is pleasantly full and ready for more football. The simple menu meant cleanup was a breeze—and I can add that to my list of things to be thankful for.
So far today the house has been filled with cooking smells so no perfume for me , but now I’m headed for the perfume cabinet and a bit of Guerlain SDV….just one spritz….. :-)

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate, and happy autumn day (or spring if you are down under) to all else. I am thankful for many things this year, including my new friends made through this blog, and finally some cash to spend on perfume!

The turkey is probably the least of it for me – I like all the side dishes! I put a squidge of turkey on my plate as a carrier for the cranberry sauce. I am a stuffing maniac.

SOTD is not quite decided. Last year I wore Aurora and it was perfection, but I only have a tiny dab left in my sample. Maybe just a touch of Back to Black., or maybe a mini-dab of Pulp (should probably smell it first – lol).

I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of any of the standard Thanksgiving dishes. The wine is usually the best part for me. I go for fruity lighter wines, Beaujolais or Grenache. But turkey and all that stuff I don’t find all that interesting.

I’m wearing Timbuktu, because I wanted something that was beautiful and yet wouldn’t annoy other people too much. My wife is wearing Amarige D’Amour, which I gave her yesterday and she loved. (We’re still trying to figure out the notes on that one, but we know it’s beautiful.)

    Enjoy the holiday, everyone.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
As many of you know, I am from Argentina and we do not celebrate thanksgiving.. still as we were fed american TV series and movies since birth, we know all about it!

My favorite thanksgiving moment in movies is The Addam’s Family Values, when Pugsley and Wednesday go to camp and have to participate in a thanksgiving play.

As of what perfume I am wearing today? I’ve been attending an IT training course for the last 3 days, and it is very humid and hot here lately, so in consideration to my fellow trainees I decided not to wear perfume these days, just deodorant (adidas, very mild) and I showered with Kielh’s “Pour Homme” shower gel, that as one sale assistance in Houston once told me, it is very similar (but softer and I like it that way) to Cartier’s Santos.

Kaos, that Addams Family movie sequence is my favorite Thanksgiving moment, too. I’m American, but never cared much for the traditional menu and have always found it a dull holiday. Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween– those are holidays with joy and meaning for me.
Nevertheless, I’m wearing Ta’if (lightly) because it seems to enhance a winter banquet!

Pavochon is a turkey(pavo) cooked in the manner of a suckling pig (lechon). It is seasoned as a pig would be,rather than as a turkey is normally done and quite delicious.

I cooked lemon-herb turkey breast and spiral-sliced ham, and only one side dish, as my MIL and a friend brought the rest of the side dishes. Nobody but me likes my favorite sweet potato recipe (chunks of sweet potato, pineapple tidbits and dried cherries, topped with marshmallows and baked), so I make the souffle’ version topped with pecan streusel, also very good. I know I am a freak here, but I could live the rest of my life without dressing, of whatever variety.

And normally I find Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille a little too sweet, but it seemed right today.

I’m looking forward to the Toronto Perfume Meetup on Saturday (12 noon at Noor in Yorkville). Will be my first, should be fun. I’ve never met another perfumista/o in real life before.

Hmmm. I am torn. You could get the old to be sure, or you could get the new to start getting used to it, since eventually it will be all there is.

Have a great time — that sounds so fun!

Happy Thanksgiving, Robin and everyone, and happy Thursday/Friday to our friends on the rest of this continent and all over the globe.

We had a friend over for dinner and made a turkey with all the typical sides, though I’m not a huge fan of turkey save for deli slices and once a year is more than enough for me. I’m really fussy about stuffing and could likely do without that, too. But we do make a wonderful cornbread/creamed corn dish with a blend of sour cream, dill, onions and a bit of cheese on top. Not the healthiest to eat very often, but it’s still one of my faves. I also found a cranberry mousse recipe I thought I’d try this year and it was fantastic as a light accompaniment.

I didn’t put on any perfume this morning since I was working with really fragrant veggies and spices, but plan a long shower followed up by some basic floral body lotion and a few hits of VW’s Boudoir later this evening. We’re going to have drinks (Mimosas for me despite it not being breakfast) and watch Monk. I always feel a little less OCD when I watch that show and that’s strangely comforting, much like the reaffirmation that I’m not the only eccentric with a good dose of smarm I feel after watching House. :-D

A question… I want a new perfume and my current loves are vintage Magie Noire, Badgley Mischka (original), Flowerbomb and Gucci by Gucci Edp.

Any recs? I want something new and magical and available as a decant or sample first. I work across the street from Aedes twice a week but try to resist going in there.

Your list sounds similar to what I like, esp the Magie Noir. For something new, how about Prada’s L’Eau Ambrée? Notes are (per Osmoz): Citron, Rose, Amber, Vanilla, Patchouli and Opoponax. Tried it Tuesday and it was love, sexy warm and very long-lasting. Found it at Nordies…..

favorite food varies…depending on who is there. it was my sister’s potato salad before she moved out of state. now it’s probably the turkey itself…mom whips up a beautiful butterball…or maybe dad’s mashed potatoes…grandma’s greenbean casserole comes in a close 2nd to all of those.

today i wore cuir ottoman, simply because everything else seemed even less appropriate. i was definitely wishing i still had some of my sample of Penhaligons Elixir.

Digesting some delicious semi-lowfat pumpkin custard right now. I love pumpkin and made a pumpkin soup a couple weeks back. I didn’t have a traditional dinner today, but I love the full spread, and my favorite might be a sweet potato-sliced apple-walnut bake with butter, a tiny bit of brown sugar, and optional splash of orange juice/zest. Family is on the other side of the country, so I’ll wait for Xmas to do all the communal feasting.

I’ve been sniffing Montale Soleil di Capri since this afternoon (it’s nice and warm out here), but just put on separate dabs of Alien Liqueur & Chanel Cuir de Russie as post-dessert “cordials”. LOL

Hope everyone had a great day and thanks for NST, Robin.

Rolling on the floor, sick, from eating too much. (I can’t have alcohol, and I had some champagne, so I’m sure that didn’t help matters any.)

Wore Gris Clair today, thought it would agree with dinner decently enough. I really wanted to wear Bandit, but knew I’d never hear the end of it from my family–at the very least, windows would have been thrown open.

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is that my favorite sister and her (brand new) husband usually come down from Fort Worth for the holiday and any day that my sister and I get together is a fun day.

As for food – I actually love turkey, but my favorite is usually stuffing. Of course, my mom tried out a new sweet potato recipe with chopped potatoes, dried cranberries, and apples that might be my new favorite. My husband contributed some green beans with prosciutto and pine nuts that was fabulous, too.

SOTD – Kenzo Amour – nice and comforting, doesn’t compete with food smells.

No Thanksgiving here in Sweden, but I’ll be having friends over for gravlax and boeuf Bourgignon on some of the moose that my freezer is currently packed full of – very seasonal in it’s own way. Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate it!

No Thanksgiving here in Manchester (UK) either, shame. But my husband celebrated it last night with our friends in LA on my behalf :).
In any case, I’m wearing Sinfonia di Note’s Jardin d’Orient, from a sample I got at the Scent Bar when I was in LA last. It’s very subtle, not may flowers here, it smells more like the humid wooden bench in the garden then the garden itself. It dries down a bit soapy. It’s nice but I wouldn’t spend $150 on a 100ml. Like Robin often states, I don’t need 100ml of anything.

The only way I know is to actually use the keys, i.e. semi-colon+dash+closed parenthesis = wink or colon+dash+capital D = big grin. There are others of course.

Someone else may know an easier way though.

make turkey Croquettes…. I am under strict instructions to always make extra share with my friend down the street.
Although they are called Croquettes—I think they cook better flattened out a bit so my family jokes that they are “Hockey Pucks” but that doesn’t stop them from woofing them down.
it’s basically cooked long grain rice, diced cooked poulty, diced onions, a thick buttery white sauce made into balls and rolled it italian bread crumbs and deep fried….if that sounds interesting to you email me at Daisyloo82 at gmail.com and I’ll flesh out the recipe for you.

Ooh, I actually like recycled turkey as much or more than the original dinner. My fave (other than sandwiches with lots of mayo and a dab of cranberry sauce) is creamed turkey with mushrooms & peas & diced roasted red bell pepper (a la king). Served up on toast it’s one of my top comfort foods.

With you on the turkey leftovers! My favorite is sliced turkey with mayo and lettuce and freshly ground pepper on the (leftover) homemade rolls… your turkey a la king sounds good too.

At the moment I only have maybe 1.5/2 lbs of turkey breast left, so that’ll go fast, but there’s LOTS of ham left.

Yesterday I was wearing a very special fragrance that was just perfect for that special day… Cedre by Serge Lutens! It works on my skin so perfectly… ummm I just love it. It was perfect for the turkey day becuz it has that candied-spiced-cinnamon-apple note to it, that just goes well with all that food on the table. At the same time Cedre is very sophisticated and elegant with a spicy twist to it. When wearing Cedre I feel like it’s gonna be a special day fo4r me. And when it’s gettin a bit chilly out… Cedre just rocks and comforts me in a perfect way. I love it.

I guess by now I should say, Happy Black Friday to all Americans! I am happy to report that I didn’t venture out at all today – I hate the rushing crowds…. but I did hear that it was a profitable one.

I love Thanksgiving – probably more so for the official opening of the Holidays. It’s been a quiet one here for me. Sadly, my husband is overseas so my son and I had a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner at our local favorite Lebanese restaurant. I love the turkey, potatoes and gravey but this year he made the best rice pilaf. Lots of sweet spices, currants, raisins and pecans. I have never liked pumpkin anything but I do love pecan pie and a chess tart that my mother used to make.
Now its onto decorating the house for Christmas. Again, it will probably be a little simpler – but I’ll be enjoying decorating as all my family will be here!
Happy Holidays one and all! Lots of love goes out to each and everyone of you!

I am so late because of the holiday and a good friend’s 50th b’day celebration last night, but I enjoyed reading about everyone’s Thanksgiving festivities! Ours was lovely – my daughter drove down from Philly and it was just the threee of us. Very traditional menu – Turkey w/herb stuffing, mashed potatoes [w/ roasted shallots and bleu cheese], sweet potato cassarole, brussels sprouts [par-cooked in chicken broth then finished off in brown butter and fresh chopped sage], sauerkraut [Maryland tradition ], my “famous” cranberry-orange-walnut relish and my pumpkin pie for dessert. [I can’t believe I just wrote the entire menu – and probably no one is even checking this thread anymore!] I wore Bois des Iles because I can’t get enough of it at the moment – and that seemed to work well and not compete with the food. I really do love Thanksgiving – for me it’s all about family and it kicks of the holiday season. I’m in such a sentimental mood because of that and just want to take the opportunity to say how much this blog and all of you mean to me! [It’s a shame I’m so late posting and not everyone will see this! :-( ] But thank you all for your wit and wisdom and comaraderie.

A very late Happy T-Day to all!

I was supremely effective this year at not preparing any food! My mom & older sister did all the cooking – yeah for mom’s & grandma’s and all family members who cook on T-day. It was our first extended joint family T-day in quite a few years so we stuck with the traditional foods. My fav is dark meat turkey and then a baked dried corn dish that’s kind of like non-sweet Indian Pudding…and of course home made pumpkin pie….

I wore Mauboussin which seemed perfect for a family friendly T-day.
