Yow…$285?
Thanks! They used to give out a bunch of freebie perfumes at those events too, wonder if now you get the book instead.
I’d much rather have perfume…especially at that price!
Drat… I had hoped to wander quietly into one of these events tonight (or something related to Fashion’s Night Out), and the weather is looking really nasty. A storm is blowing in and the forecast for tonight is rain, rain, and rain. I hope people brave the weather – even if it’s OTHER people than me!
Hope you’ll get lucky with the weather!
New York definitely had its Fashion Night Out – at least I assume that’s the explanation for the RAINBOW-colored glitter mini dress (topped with a rose-coral jacket, no less!) I saw being worn in Union Square. 🙂
The promised rain did not materialize. I wonder if more people would have come out if the weather had not been so threatening. (It WAS cold and windy all evening.) I did wander through the Herald Square Macy’s, but that was all. It wasn’t super busy (but then I have been in that Macy’s on Black Friday so my benchmark for “busy” might not be the same as others’.) It WAS hopping. There was a big event being taken down – apparently Michael Kors was there to celebrate the launch of Very Hollywood. I thought that was funny since I happened to be carrying my one and only Michael Kors handbag. 🙂 In honor of Michael I let an SA spritz me up – Very Hollywood was, I’m sad to say, a very unmemorable, sweet, lightweight fruity floral. I enjoyed the Burberry Brit I spritzed on the other wrist much more. (I’m thinking of actually buying this – the opening citrus goes away almost entirely, though, and the drydown is a bit powdery, which I tend not to like.)
I might have spent more time checking out other counters to see if there were anything I couldn’t live without, but I got distracted in the handbags. My virtue in not buying anything was rewarded, however, with a very discounted original bottle of Amouage Ciel! on eBay. So, a good day overall!
So glad it was a good evening! And congrats on your Amouage, hope you got a great deal.
I was out tonight in the West End (London), on Fashion’s Night Out: it was murder. I wouldn’t have gone specially – I had smthg to do in the area. It was worse than at Christmas. Champagne was on offer in most stores (unfortunately, I don’t drink) and young, excited girls were like locusts all around…
However, in Selfridges, I did get to see the new Chanel ‘corner’ (it’s huge) designed by Christopher Sheldrake, I believe. Sniffed all the exclusives. The very pretty SA (never seen such amazing eyes!) sat me down at the Fragrance Bar and proceeded to tell me about the fragrances. She was knowledgeable and not pushy. You sniff what looks like porcelain sticks that sit permanently in holes along the bar (in front of each bottle); they give you to sniff a stick smelling of coffee in-between. Come to think of it, the sticks are probably made of unglazed earthenware. It’s very effective and ‘clean’. I came away with a ‘mouillette’ sprayed with Beige. Olfactory overload, of course, but not an unpleasant experience.
J, I understand it’s the same as the one in Saks here, and I’ve heard it’s great fun. Glad you got to see it … how did you like Beige?
It was refined and relaxed (and relaxing).
The mouillette is sitting on my desk and I’m getting whiffs of Beige from time to time. Nice and inoffensive, I would say. Maybe, one day, when I get tired of being assaulted by the blast of turpentine in TubĂ©reuse Criminelle… Don’t hold your breath! LOL!
I need to go back so I can try to distinguish between the other Exclusifs. I’m so behind, I know, but I don’t have the energy to ‘chase’ perfumes. I wait until I bump into them. The Chanel space has replaced the counter where I used to visit the SL Exports (they’ve been relegated to another corner). I don’t need to go to Selfridges for that any longer: Beauty Base in Westfield (the gigantic shopping mall around the corner) has all the Exports. They’re near the entrance: I nip in, spritz something and come out again. Easy peasy. 🙂
HA…will NOT be holding my breath, don’t worry!
I was really, really hoping to see Frederic Malle at Barney’s (and handed my best friend my credit card before I walked in) but we were a little too late – poopies. It was still a lovely, goofy night, filled with free cocktails, entertaining celebrity sightings and yummy samples. And of course, it being a fashion event in New York, lots of beautiful people and/or self-important, snotty fashion victims; the people watching was *so* much fun. Then to top it off, the sweetheart of a Diptyque salesgirl at Saks gave my friend and I samples of all sorts of body products and two samples of Tam Dao (which I’m currently enjoying).
This city is fuuuuuuun.
That sounds fun! Frederic Malle is usually mobbed when he appears there anyway…you’d probably have had to stand in line or something. Free Diptyque samples is just as good 🙂
